-Ratings Breakdown:
It was another midweek Wednesday overnight victory for CBS care of its combination of “Survivor: Blood vs. Water” (6.3 rating/10 share), “Criminal Minds” (7.4/12) and “CSI” (6.9/12), which were all right on par, on average, from the year-ago evening. In other words, there is every reason to believe CBS will keep this line-up intact next season (if deals are signed for the veteran crime solvers, of course). The current edition of “Survivor” concludes this Sunday in the 8-10 p.m. block (followed by the live reunion show).

Second-place ABC, as always, got a boost from “Modern Family” at 9 p.m. (#2: 7.3/12), which will top the night among adults 18-49 (and other key demos) with ease. But lead-out “Super Fun Night” remained a super flop at a 3.8/ 6 at 9:30 p.m. (#3t – with 52 percent retention out of “Modern Family”). And sophomore drama “Nashville” followed with a 3.7/ 6 at 10 p.m., which inched past competing NBC special “Kelly Clarkson’s Cautionary Christmas Music Tale” (#3: 3.6/ 6) by one-tenth of a rating point.

Earlier in the evening was always reliable “The Middle” (#2: 5.6/ 9) and canceled “Back in the Game” (#2: 4.1/ 7) from 8-9 p.m.

Over at NBC, two-hours of holiday completion “The Sing-Off” scored a modest 3.9/ 6 from 8-10 p.m., which was 29 percent behind the 5.9/ 9 for its expanded season-premiere on Monday (from 9-11 p.m.). And that opener, of course, got a boost out of “The Voice.” Yes…lead-in still matters.

Elsewhere, diluted “The X Factor” on Fox scored a 3.7/ 6 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m., which was 31 percent below the 5.4/ 9 one year earlier. And solid “Arrow” (#5: 2.2/ 4) on The CW led into a disappointing 1.2/ 2 (#5) for “The Tomorrow People” at 9 p.m. Comparably, retention for “The Tomorrow People” out of the 8:30 p.m. portion of “Arrow” (2.1/ 3) was just 57 percent.

About the Daily Ratings

Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.
