Grimm - Season 3 - David Giuntoli Interview

17 Dec 2013

Thanks to Boris for the heads up.

Nick started Season 3 as a zombified version of himself. While some might the recovery from that sort of illness challenging, Nick seems to have come out with some interesting side-effects. Will we see more of those effects as the year progresses?

David Giuntoli: Oh, yes. Yes. We're going to be playing on this one for a little while. It's funny, every time Nick gets harmed, he's left with this kind of useful side-effect and we're going to definitely be seeing more of that after the break.

Now that Nick has seen a darker side of himself and also discovered the side-effects that come with it, we could see that darker side more often. Could he become more like a Wesen?

David Giuntoli: I think the longer Nick does this job the more he is going to become that. I sense that. I sense that it happens, and I'll become more and more to the world of Wesen. And [he's] not afraid of people anymore, so that's a good sign for my character, getting dark.

So far, Nick has shown signs of having super-hearing and also being able to "die" without it affecting him. Will Nick learn to control these things?

David Giuntoli: At this point he does not control it at all. So he certainly can use his hearing to his advantage, but this dead thing I don't think he knows where it comes from yet. It is certainly not something that he can kind of pull out of his bag of tricks at his own whim. So you know, he just - it either helps him or it hurts him at this point.

  1. I like that the show is sticking with all of the weird residual effects of Nick being significantly harmed. I want to know if it's a Grimm thing or if it's something specific to Nick.

All in all, this was an interestingly informative interview. Trouble for Nick/Juliette, expanding the international scope of the show, exploring the consequences of people aligning themselves with Nick, multiple big villains ahead, an uncomfortable examination of the nature of the Nick/Monroe relationship - all of this seems really interesting to me.

  2. The ''examination of the nature of the Nick/Monroe relationship'' is the most interesting part for me (or at least equally with the 'dead'-Nick thing). It remind me of the episode in season 1 where Monroe is first invited by Juliette for diner and he points out Nick and I only speak/work together when he's helping on a case. That hasn't chance much since season 1, even at their Thanksgiving diner they were talking about a case. Almost feel like Nick's taking Monroe for granted (even if he does help Monroe when he need his time)

Wondering if the ''Is Nick using Monroe?'' is about that or something very specific to the episode.

  3. It's possible that Nick really is too business-oriented with Monroe. He's never really shown much interest in Monroe's life except for the wesen part and the only time I can remember them socializing is watching a football (soccer) match with Bud and Nick wasn't very good company at the time because of his Juliette troubles.

  4. I'm confused bout one thing David mentions all the passports have been stamped is he referring to the characters passport or the actually cast members and having them actually film in Austria??

  5. Probably the characters passports. The Austria-storyline has always been filmed in Portland so it would suprise me if they would actually go filming in Austria.
