The Mentalist - Episode 6.08 - Red John - Preview

19 Nov 2013

This article is spoiler-free. It's only a general preview of the episode with author's personal feelings about it and it only contains a few teasers, nothing that could spoil anyone this important hour.

One for all, all for one
Today I had a great opportunity to watch a rough cut of the next episode of The Mentalist, "Red John". And here's my thoughts about it. As you can expect, after the events of "The Great Red Dragon" the things are not looking so good for our main characters. From FBI's perspective everyone who worked at CBI is now considered a suspect. But then again, there are suspects and there are THE suspects. The atmosphere is tense and people are getting annoyed and impatient. My favorite part of this situation, though, is the fact that it gives our former CBI team a chance to show just what makes them so great. I'm definitely gonna miss seeing them all together.

The calm before the storm
As for Patrick himself, he's surprisingly calm, waiting for the things to start happening on their own. Not that he has to wait for long. There are a lot of things going on in this episode, many twists and turns. Literally. And when Jane finally gets to face Red John, there is a lot more action than I expected involved. And it's a good thing. I have to say, when back in season four premiere, we found out that the man Patrick shot was not in fact RJ, I was very disappointed, mostly because season three had probably the best finale on the show and I was so impressed with that last scene of confrontation, that I was certain the real thing wouldn't even get close to that. Now I can gladly say, I was wrong. After seeing the face-to-face showdown between the two, I can tell you, it seems like a fitting ending to this story. And whether it's an "honorable tie", "a truce" or just some sort of closure for them, I can't imagine it going any other way. I think Bruno Heller and everyone else did a great job with these last 8 episodes of the Red John storyline.

"It's all so suspenseful." And dramatic.

As strange as I believe it's going to be moving forward for the characters, I can't wait to see them changed after the events of this episode. The life after Red John is the real mystery for Patrick Jane. And whatever choices he made, there are many more ahead. His story is a very tragic one, cause regardless of the results of his meeting with RJ, there's no happy ending for him. Not yet anyway. And that's what I'm really excited to see in the future episodes. Him getting a second chance at life. After this brilliant hour, I can't wait to see what's next. I don't know if it's the show's best episode, but it's definitely brilliant. Stunning, sad, satisfying and just as it should be. "Awesome" is also a good word to describe it. Especially considering the incredible performances by the actors, starting with the always amazing Simon Baker and ... the actor portraying RJ. Chills.

And here are some teasers for you to help with the waiting:

- Someone using a phrase "your boyfriend" is gonna make a lot of fans happy.
- Some calls are worth so much more than 300 $.
- At least two people turn out to be much smarter than it seems.
- Some people just need an appreciation.
- Remember the clues? You should.
- "Hi"
- Someone gets to feel like Al Capone.
- It's always good to have Cho on your side.
- Some people are VERY determined to do their job.

Finally, just to see where everyone's standing with their picks: who do YOU think is Red John?
*I'm gonna include all the original suspects, just to cover all bases.

  1. "YOUR BOYFRIEND" *dead*

  2. Thanks for the preview! So it must be a very intense episode, maybe one of the most stunning of the entire serieS? Good job, I can't hardly wait one more week for that! :)

    ReplyDelete
  3. I imagine Agent Abbott from the FBI will call Jane as Lisbon's boyfriend

    ReplyDelete
  4. I thought that too!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  5. Me too hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  6. Or Red John Calls Patrick Her Boyfriend.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Yeah, I wonder how it could be otherwise LOL I hardly imagine Jane tell Lisbon "I am your boyfriend" and then go off to South America... Anyway, can't wait !!!

    ReplyDelete
  8. can't wait to see Lisbon's face when she heard it!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  9. I can't wait to see what happens. Are Jane and Red John really going to declare a truce? I don't think so.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Thanks for the great preview! .....and uhm,my spoilery self wants to ask you if RJ was who you expected him to be.....your favorite choice i mean?

    ReplyDelete
  11. I wish I could answer that, but considering the fact that I actually wrote about my favorite pick just hours before watching the episode... Well, you know;)
What I can tell you is that I'm really okay with who it turns out to be. Regardless of who I was thinking about before.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Since we know from an article that Jane is going to kill RJ , i agree with you. :)

    ReplyDelete
  13. So my interpretation of the teasers:

-1. Someone using a phrase "your boyfriend" is gonna make a lot of fans happy.- 2. Some calls are worth so much more than 300 $.
    - 3. At least two people turn out to be much smarter than it seems.
    - 4. Some people just need an appreciation.
    - 5. Remember the clues? You should.
    - 6. "Hi"
    - 7. Someone gets to feel like Al Capone.
    - 8. It's always good to have Cho on your side.
    - 9. Some people are VERY determined to do their job.

    1. Red John will call Teresa, and he will claim that he is going to hunt down "Her Boyfriend" for slandering his name again. This is what compels her to use the CBI team to protect Jane at all costs as the promo suggests
    2. I have no idea what this means, other than maybe a certain call is priceless. I don't know if the $300 price tag is literal or figurative.
    3. One is Jane (No surprise for me) The other is Red John (this teaser leads me to think Brett Partridge for some reason. IDK we'll see)
    4. Red John can't leave well enough alone, he NEEDS Jane to appreciate his work. He NEEDS recognition to the point of his death.
    5. Rosalind Harker's clues? Pigeons? All the Red John Clues from the entire series?
    6. "Hi Patrick" (Red John)
    7. Someone gets slashed in the face by a knife, leading to a scare on their face maybe?
    8. Agreed Cho is awesome! He will also make the leap to the FBI after all this.
    9. Even unto death? (Bertram? McAllister?)

    ReplyDelete
  14. Yeah, I had to include this one ;) And the follow up was pretty good too.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Wait wait! WAIT! You watched a rough cut? (I'm fascinated by this things) That means that it wasn't edited? Lots of blue/green screens? Did it have music? When the ep airs, would you tell me the differences between the versions? Pretty please! It's like .. like watching behind the scenes! (almosts) O.O

oh right, the ep.. (lol!) Reading your review I had a general feeling/vibe that Jane killed Red John, but if I remember right, Bruno said we definitely would know who was Red John, but that that didn't mean they would catch him... or something like that. mmm

    ReplyDelete
  16. Well a rough cut is usually pretty much the same thing, but without some special effects and music. Also it can include occasional sound changes and the quality is worse than in the final cut. But the plot, scenes and things like shouldn't be any different. I think.

    ReplyDelete
  17. "Jane is calm, waiting for things to happen"

I believe, that by naming Gail Bertram as Red John, Jane has successfully baited Red John into coming out of hiding. Red John doesn't like copycats (remember S2 finale) and murderers who claim that they are better than Red John (remember that old guy killer in S 4/5? who belittled Red John in an interview.) Simply put, he is too egotistical to bear someone else getting credit.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I want to feel very happy about this but something about South America and a two year jump doesn't sit right with me. At all.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Some of these are spot on! Not all of them, but nice guesses anyway :)
As for 8, I'd say that's just a general truth that needed to be said. It's hard not to love Cho's character.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Haha, yes i know ...that's why i asked. X) But thanks for your answer! Even though you haven't spoiled anything it did help me bc your favorite pick is also my first choice. And if you're ok with who it turns out to be,then i think i will be too. :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oh yes, yes.. I meant technical differences ;) Like did they shoot on an actual cemetery (as per the preview) or was it digitally added. I think it was real though. Was the frame larger, so you could see extra space? Things like that :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Rough cut is basically the episode but not the finished, airing one. My Tomorrow People ep 4 screener basically consisted of some music but not in all areas, a couple of scenes where someone's back was turned while they talked and the sound was a bit computerized (I think) and didn't have a sound in the title sequence or have a end credits. Other than that it was the same as what goes to air.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Now if only you could say which ones are correct or not. I know you wish, but alas we shall remain unspoiled. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  24. ...but we uhm, i want to be spoiled sooo badly XD !

    ReplyDelete
  25. Isn't Ericka Flynn somewhere in South America? O.O I'd love to see Morena Baccarin again!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Naming Gail Bertram as Red John definitely sets A LOT of things in motion.
    For better or worse.
But I liked Jane approaching things calmly with a kind of...hmm, confidence, I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'm not so great with all the technical staff, but most of the things looked very real to me. Don't think they needed many digital additions.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Now that you mentioned Rosalind Harker...she's the reason why i never suspected Partridge,Bertram or Smith. Idk but even though she's blind to me the only halfway appealing suspects are McAllister,Haffner and Stiles. Hilarious? I know.^^ XD

    ReplyDelete
  29. Not asking you about RJ's identity, but could you say if they explain his motivation for the killings he's done? Why he's become a serial killer or what drives him?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Partridge fits RH's description to a tee in my opinion. Hafner does too, as did Kirkland. McAllister is on the older end of it, and his hair is there enough to say that it is straight even though it is rather thin on top, but he still fits.

On the other hand, Bertram, is way too tall, and bald to have his hair considered straight over bald. Stiles is way too old, and short not to mention British. His accent would have been something a blind woman would have noticed. Smith is way too tall as well as too young, and do I have to say it? To fat.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well, there is a great moment in the episode when Jane pretty much describes RJ and in a way, his motivation, by himself. And since he's Jane, well, it fits quite perfectly.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Do you think we'll all be happy with who turns out to be Red John?

    ReplyDelete
  33. As always, I'm sure there's gonna be someone who won't, but in general, considering how well it's all done, I think most of people will be satisfied with this story.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Does the reveal of RJ's identity happen as the major gasp, mouth wide open moment that we've all hoped for? I just saw Americ's video of him (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWYpReqi678) watching the episode, and there is one moment where he is gasping and his mouth is wide open!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I agree with everything you said except for Partridge bc idk it's just even if i was blind his voice wouldn't make me want to touch him, tbh. X)
Yes,he fits RJ's description and i think he is smart enough to do the killing but i have also a problem with the strong enough part. (.. sometimes it doesn't need strenght to kill i know however he doesn't look athletic..)

    ...sry,that i can't express it better...but as you can see english isn't my first language. ;) But i hope i did ok . :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Haven't watched this video, but I'm sure there are gonna moments of shock/confusion/what is going on for everyone.
Personally, I did sorta screamed at the screen at one point ;)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Ahhhh I'm so excited.
I'm a big Partridge fan if I'm honest, I can only see myself being pleased if it is him. But if it is someone else, I'm hoping that it's done in a way that will make me happy with the choice.
Clearly Bertram isn't RJ because Jane outed him out on TV just to lure out the really RJ, but I don't like McAllister for it.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Does the episode explain what happened at PJ's house with the explosion?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Anas Berhab Karami18 November 2013 at 23:37

Thanks for the preview, finally i'am gonna sleep well tonight.
i have only one question it's not about RJ identity of course, i don't care about, i'am just afraid about all the questions we've made all these years, if they gonna be answered or not

    ReplyDelete
  40. disqus_BLvd5NQY3F18 November 2013 at 23:42

if the FBI really want RJ they need PJ help to get him

    ReplyDelete
  41. I get it. Partridge is ewww! LOL! However he does fit the Not soft, but not too strong look here. Sorry LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Damned... I wanna be a Press Member.... All of this is killing me....

    ReplyDelete
  43. Haha,LOL ! :) Ok,now i have to admit he doesn't look that bad or unathletic.^^ ( ..and i'm glad it wasn't a picture of shirtless Smith or Bertram ....)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Does the character who ends up being RJ do a good job of changing his voice to match the old RJ voice we've heard?

    ReplyDelete
  45. the Red John story is never over until Red John dies, you can have Red John just promise not to hill and leave - that is not closure

    ReplyDelete
  46. Is that not partridge in the third picture down on the far right of the picture?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Partridge is Red John. I'm sure he is a crazy maniac in the same fashion as Jim Moriarty in BBC's Sherlock. We've never seen his corpse, he's been there since the very first episode, his voice fits with Red John's... I think this self-proclaimed Red John expert with surgical experience who has been humiliated by Jane in almost every episode they meet would be the perfect villain.

    ReplyDelete
  48. People are losing it. Ain't gonna be bret or McAllister or kirkland. Focus on veins people commonly have and ignore the story. Bertram IS RJ. Watch his scenes and what better way to gain info than being his boss.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Wow. ..People still think it's brett patridge after confirmation of his death multiple times by the producers

    ReplyDelete
  50. Yep. PPL will deny after nxt week but have no answer to why director of cbi is killing people. I am a little concerned for people's sanity. Some think it is michael kirkland smh. Dead bodies are not dead to some.) X_X)

    ReplyDelete
  51. I know it's a crime show not supernatural

    ReplyDelete
  52. Or Charlotte his daughter would be real. The crazy part is people blocking out batshit crazy Bertram. Jane went out and named RJ the writers would never have him wrong or not be sure one episode left. Accept reality, fans. Kirkland-ok so joker is in the running? $heeshes

    ReplyDelete
  53. If you don't think it's Partridge by now, please don't think about a career as a detective.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Up until "The Great Red Dragon", I thought RJ was either Ray Haffner or Reede Smith.

Haffner fits nearly all of Rosalind Harker's descriptions, was a member of Visualize during the barn incident and about the same age as whoever was on the farm. I also believe he is/was Brett Stiles' son. But if he's dead from the explosion, there goes that.

I don't know why I thought Reede Smith, other than him seeming like kind of a sardonic guy with a hidden viciousness to him. Now I feel bad for the guy, sort of.

From the suspicious hairline of the guy running in the promo for "Red John", my guess is that RJ is Sheriff McAllister, but that's almost too disappointing to fathom.

Oh, The Mentalist. You have exhausted me. I went back and rewatched all RJ-related episodes, poured over all the clues, and Haffner and Smith was the best I could do. I'm no Patrick Jane.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Oh yes! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  56. I wouldn't say the poll was ruined. People are sharing their opinion, they don't have to be right, or wrong ;)

    ReplyDelete
  57. I'm sure some things will remain a secret. It's not like they're gonna spend the entire episode explaining everything, but I still think they did a great job with this :)

    ReplyDelete
  58. At one point the voice is changed and I can't say for sure (cause of the quality and sound changes in the rough cut), but I think it was pretty similar to what we've heard before.

    ReplyDelete
  59. who is your fav ?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Please tell me if this time (S6EP08-'Red John') it is 100% the real Red John we will find out IN THE END. Or if there still is any doubt about it after completely watching it. And pleeeeaase :) could you describe the moment of the final confrontation just a little for a huuuge PJ-RJ-chemistry fan :)

Thank you so much for this article!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I have no doubts this time. And without any details, the confrontation is absolutely brilliant and the actors work just SO well together!

    ReplyDelete
  62. In the promo for 'Red John' we see Patrick with a gun with tape on it. So at a guess, when Patrick went to the church at the end of ep 7, he took the gun and taped it to the chair, knowing full well he'd lure who he believes to be Red John to the church.

    - "Your boyfriend", as many have said, potentially Red John to Lisbon regarding Patrick. Something like "Well, your boyfriend brought this on when he named Gale Bertrum as Red John on national television...."
    - $300 phone call? Potentially a very long phone call? A call that'd been made by Patrick to catch Red John's confession?
    - 2 smart people; wondering if Reede Smith is exactly where he needs to be and he's played them all to get in to the CBI? The other... Rigsby? He's portrayed as a bit of a dullard to be fair, so maybe he works something out all by himself?
    - Red John. All he's ever wanted is to be appreciated by Patrick, which is why he reveals himself to him
    - I'm expecting a bunch of flashbacks once it's revealed, such as the 'he is man..', RH's description, and other things, so they really try to portray that they (writers) know who Red John was since day one.
    - "Hi Patrick..... it's nice to see you again" Something like that, definitely Red John.
    - No idea. Could be a reference to the actual Al Capone, or the actor/one of his films that famously played him.
    - Cho's a legend. Guessing he makes a save or something like that.
    - Bertram's job is to not get caught no matter what the cost, who he has to kill, what laws he has to break, his job is stay alive in order to keep the 'Tiger, Tiger' organisation going.

    Just some thoughts!

    ReplyDelete
  63. 4 I hope is a good clue, do you know how I am ,,,, I need for you to know who I am,

    ReplyDelete
  64. At least two are correct, so nice guesses! And some of these are really interesting theories.
    Thanks for sharing! :)

    ReplyDelete
  65. Dániel Milán Kőszegi19 November 2013 at 09:48

I thought about Rigsby the same!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Only 2?! Gaaaah. That's annoying. :)

    ReplyDelete
  67. How is that going to make us happy?

    ReplyDelete
  68. I can only hope there has been deliberate misdirection with the promo, as it clearly indicates McAllister as being RJ. It has to be a red herring though, surely they wouldn't so stupidly spoil a secret that they've guarded so closely before now.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Anas Berhab Karami19 November 2013 at 10:08

    Ok, thanks

    ReplyDelete
  70. There was NO confirmation!! They just didn't deny it!! You should have read the articles more thoroughly ;-)

  71. Dániel Milán Kőszegi19 November 2013 at 10:19

is ALIVE! :) Somebody told to Lisbon that Jane lives! :)

    ReplyDelete
  72. Hi, thx for the preview. Do we find out how did RJ knew before PJ about his list of 7? Season 5 finale

    ReplyDelete
  73. I thought it could be Rigsby too, but being Married to Grace and all... She would've seen his Blake Association Tattoo, unless she was working with him. They could be the two smarter than they seem, but I think its a bit far fetched :(

    ReplyDelete
  74. I'm fairly certain it's McAllister, and I'd be really happy with that. He was one of my top 2 choices at the start of S6. I love that he appeared right at the start (1.02) before disappearing. I LOVE Xander Berkeley. The best thing is that he's actually an interesting choice, not someone glaringly obvious and overtly RJ like.

    ReplyDelete
  75. tylko jedno chce wiedzieć, czy to szeryf ?

    ReplyDelete
  76. haahahahah. look at the poll results above

    ReplyDelete
  77. Thanks for your nice preview! I'm so intrigued now. Just a question, if you may reply it. Is Red John really someone one of 7 suspects?

    ReplyDelete
  78. I know that you won't probably answer it :D Will Jisbon fans appreciate this episode as well?

    ReplyDelete
  79. At least ;)

    ReplyDelete
  80. Oh yeah, no matter who it turns out to be, I really love Xander Berkeley too. He was great on 24 and Nikita!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Hmm.. yeah, I think so, some great moments between the two. As long as the fans will remember that it's not the episode focused on them.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Yes, I think it was confirmed by the creators a long time ago.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I have to admit, I'm quite surprised by them. LOL at the fact that Reede Smith (who was one of the two prime suspects in the last episode) is actually last on fans' list.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Thanks Justyna! Cool preview!

I'd be very so thankful if you could answer these quesitons:

    1) Do we learn why Jane didn't take Rosalind Harker's description into account while making the list or according to which criteria did he compile the list of 7 suspects?

    2) Is there any flashback or flashback(s) in the episode? Maybe about RJ or Jane?

    3) Do we learn some information about RJ's past?

    4) Do we learn "He is mar(n).." thing?

    5) What do you really think about the writers' tying up the loose ends from previous seasons? Did they accomplish succesfully?

    ReplyDelete
  85. - At least two people turn out to be much smarter than it seems - For some reason I keep thinking Rigsby and Van Pelt...

    - Someone gets to feel like Al Capone - Patrick buys himself a suit and fancy hat?

    - It's always good to have Cho on your side - I like to think this is Cho taking on Abbott so that Jane can go play with RJ.

    - Some people are VERY determined to do their job - This could be Abbott doing what it takes to clean house, even taking the team out of play.

    ReplyDelete
  86. 2 out of 4 ;)

    ReplyDelete
  87. Can you describe the fancy hat? :-D

    ReplyDelete
  88. all right, give me an 'at most' ;)

    ReplyDelete
  89. Mithrandir Olórin19 November 2013 at 15:22

Then it doesn't come from bad guy. What I meant is that RJ is a guy that is smarter than anyone but Jane, and he can hurt you badly physically if he wants to. This said, he doesn't need to be agressive verbally. He never has been through the series, and nothing makes me think he will be now.

So if it's not said emotionally as an agression (Bertram), and it's not RJ, it's the new FBI guy.

Thanks for answering! (And as long as I'm correct in Gues number 2, I think "your boyfriend" will be a minor Jisbon thing).

    ReplyDelete
  90. Uh, champ, it's been implied pretty strongly by even the writers of the show that Bertram isn't RJ. If he actually was RJ, Jane wouldn't have told the media about it.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Thanks. Just one last question. Does this episode address why RJ calls Lisbon "Teresa" during his phone call to Jane- "Sorry, Patrick. Teresa can't come to the phone right now." I always thought that was a bit random. Maybe just bad writing?

    ReplyDelete
  92. Plus, Bertram doesn't fit any of Harker's clues about RJ. She said he had straight hair and was 5'11. Bertram is bald and has been bald for a long time, and he's 6'4.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Justyana, thanks for the info. Just one last thing: Does the episode address why RJ called Lisbon "Teresa" during his phone call to Patrick?

    ReplyDelete
  94. I think it's just such a tiny detail that I don't see why would anyone want to explain that.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Those are very specific questions so I can't really answer to them but I can tell you that there are obviously some things left open. Not everything needs a direct explanation, because the details are not really so important for our heroes. But if you ask me, I'm glad with the way the writers handled this episode, especially considering people's expectations and the fact that it's only 40 minutes.

    ReplyDelete
  96. - Someone using a phrase "your boyfriend" is gonna make a lot of fans happy.
Probably, Red John telling Lisbon about Jane. Second option, Abbot telling Lisbon about Jane.

    - Some calls are worth so much more than 300 $.
I guess I don't get it. Maybe a minor crime reward leds to something really big.

    - At least two people turn out to be much smarter than it seems.
Well, I'll place my bets at Van Pelt and Rigsby. Cho is already very smart, and Lisbon, besides the fact that lately she's lacking some smartness, she is not in the position she is out of nothing.

    - Some people just need an appreciation.
RJ, no doubt. That, IMHO, points to Partridge in my weird logic.

    - Remember the clues? You should.
I can remember lots of clues, from season 1 onwards, but I'm guessing the ones that really matters now are the new ones.

    - "Hi"
    As in "Hi, Patrick".

    - Someone gets to feel like Al Capone.
Someone gets a scar, I guess. Or maybe someone orders a massacre. But I'll bet on the scar.

    - It's always good to have Cho on your side.
Jane have to deal with RJ alone, so I guess Cho will help to create a distraction or something.

    - Some people are VERY determined to do their job.
I was thinking Bertram or Cordero, maybe. But, from my guts, I can only think Kirkland.

    ReplyDelete
  97. About half of these are right or really close :)

If you're interested to know which ones, I think will update some of these teasers later this week.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Wow! Thanks for answering! I'll make sure my F5 key keeps working!

  99. You are so lucky that your waiting is over, I have no theories on Red John I think it could be anyone at this point and they're just playing mind games with us until the actual reveal, was excited about that bit about Cho definitely one my fav characters love his sorta stoic personality so glad he's getting recognition. Counting down the days, could you Jane was at peace at the very ending?

    ReplyDelete
  100. I thought it might link to RJ being Haffner because he's the only suspect that calls her "Teresa" on a regular basis. Everyone else calls her Lisbon and isn't on first name terms with her.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Hi justyna , did they show the leader of the tiger tiger group? who is he?

    ReplyDelete
  102. Is the reason Lisbon was spared from Red John explained? I know Heller said it would be, but we all know how he can be LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Hmm... interesting. Never actually considered it as any kind of hint.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Obviously I can't tell you who it is, but yeah, we definitely learn more about the organization and its members/leader/leaders.

    ReplyDelete
  105. To finally be at peace...hmm, I'm sure it's gonna take time. One single meeting/conversation/confrontation can't just take away all that pain from last 10 years, but I'm guessing it's a start.
And yeah, Cho is one of my favorites too! And I absolutely loved him in this episode, which is why I wrote this tease about him in the first place ;)

    ReplyDelete
  106. Is the handshake addressed?

    ReplyDelete
  107. OK, I understand ;) Thanks for the other answers :)

    ReplyDelete
  108. It ties in with Heller saying that there's a hint during the Lisbon/Partridge scene that gives away RJ's identity. If it's not him calling her Teresa, I can't imagine what else it could be? Perhaps something to do with pigeons.

    ReplyDelete
  109. couldn't agree more. Does the episode explain why the Lisbon/Patridge scene (towards end of S06E01) is so important? And if there's a reason to show so many scenes of pigeons in the first few episodes of the season

    ReplyDelete
  110. There's a reference to at least one of these things. That's all I can say.

    ReplyDelete
  111. What i want to ask is a little out of the main issue.Do we know what happened with cristina fraye or whatever's her name?Maybe my question is silly cause i havent watched much episodes but i reeeeally liked her so i need to know :)

    ReplyDelete
  112. did they show or explain how RJ figure out the list of 7 suspects before Jane himself? This one has been torturing me all summer...
and when did Jane figure out who RJ really is? Is it during the episode? in this season? or way earlier?

    ReplyDelete
  113. The answer to one of these questions is one of my favorite part, so let's leave it at that! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  114. I agree, Cristina was a really interesting character and I liked her, but we pretty much know that her story ended back in Season 3.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Lisbon had relationship that we dont know with red john but she did not know that he was red john? So either patrick realizes it and says that in a way with irony or red john says that to lisbon?

    ReplyDelete
  116. Actually that's not what Heller says.

He said: "What I can tell you is that there is a very cryptic clue in that last sequence of episode one that will eventually explain — when all is revealed — what happened to Lisbon and why."

    ReplyDelete
  117. never thought of that, very interesting

    ReplyDelete
  118. Sorry to bug you again, but the people I know on IMDb want me to ask you 2 things:
1- Is the red barn brought up? That's where RJ committed his first murders.
2- Is the "He is Mar" thing from a few seasons ago explained?

    ReplyDelete
  119. I stand corrected. I have a bad feeling it's going to be that McAllister is RJ, and he's scared of pigeons, so the sight of them scared him off before he could kill Lisbon. Something disappointing like that.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Awesome!!! looking forward to it. Please post more teasers if possible to keep us guessing. This is even more fun than watching the episode. LOL.

Honestly, even if you tell us who RJ truly is. I think there would be a good portion of us respond in "Really!? How?". Of the 7 suspects, there are reasons to suggest how each of them could be RJ and also not likely to be be RJ. I think the writers are doing a fantastic job keep us wondering, in the final minutes.

Don't think RJ is just going to walk into church, tell PJ "Game's over and I won!", explain a few things, PJ shoots him and that's that. If RJ pulled a Timothy Carter in season 3, I expect this one to be better than Timothy Carter. More twists and turns please :)

Have been watching since S01E01. It is exciting to learn the moment is finally upon us! Regardless of who RJ truly is, I hope the upcoming episode gives us a fulfilling conclusion to the RJ storyline, and I look forward to life after RJ...

    ReplyDelete
  121. If it turns out to be Reede Smith I would die of all the suspects he seems to have the smallest following, he was totally devious when he shot kirkland and it really made me see what he was capable of so I'm not crossing him off my list gosh it's frustrating anyone of them will make a good RJ

    ReplyDelete
  122. Don't tell me Red John uses surveillance pigeons to find out about Jane's list.

    ReplyDelete
  123. 1) When Patrick first met Kirkland he had his favorite cup. Patrick says do I know you?, Kirkland says No, but I know you.

Then in the Red Dragon the cup breaks and you could see Jane thinking. Does this have any significance?

    2) I think Patrick will/told the world a name for Red John, knowing it's not him. Then when Patrick kills him he tells Red John the world will never know who you really were, they will think you were just a boob.

    3) Rigsby told Van Pelt. "I love you." She replied "I know." instead of I love you too. Is there anything to that?

    4) Rigsby asked when they were in Bertram's locker are you okay with PJ killing the boss? Both Van Pelt and Cho said yes, he didn't seem too keen on this. Clue?

    5) I noticed the wine in the locker was from Napa Valley - and had the name Se7ven Grace - Thought this might be a clue.

    6) Flash drive in the lighter. I think it was left there on purpose, knowing Patrick could decode it.

7a) Looking at the painting in the church. Last supper. Who was there? Judas - Do we have a Judas in the CBI?

7b) Also in the church was a picture of Moses and the 10 Commandments. Moses had three fingers up and the III commandment is: "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain." - Do either of the pictures have a meaning? - RJ thinks of himself kind of a god, and makes people pay for insulting him in public.

    8) Are we safe to say someone faked their death?

    9) We will find out why Lisbon was spared in episode one.

    10) Will a hero fall?

    ReplyDelete
  124. Woah at so many theories! You may be right about some things, but when it comes to others I think you're starting to look for clues where there were none. It actually proves how well the show is written. So many possibilities ;)
I find this kind of speculation really interesting. As in, look at how many other options the creators could explore...

    ReplyDelete
  125. @Justyna Kubica

    1. [Bertram is definitely not Red John] Bertram tried to slit the throat of an unconscious Patrick Jane and that was uncharacteristic of Red John, for Red John views himself as an artist and a showman. Moreover, even if Red John had ultimately concluded that he wanted to murder Patrick Jane, he wouldn't take out his arch-nemesis unceremoniously, and without drama.

    2. [Reede Smith is not Red John] For obvious reasons.

    3. [Brett Partridge is definitely not Red John] Recall that in the pilot episode that Partridge wrongly claimed that a Red John copycat was actually Red John. Of course, we learned that, indeed, this murderer wasn't Red John. If there is one patent attribute of Red John, it is that he loathes copycats and those who try to take glory for his work; also, he is proud and egotistical, so why would he claim that he murdered someone when he didn't?

    4. [Bob Kirkland is definitely not Red John] To those who using the handshake scene as evidence, notice that when Kirkland informed Jane that he knew who the latter was, he was referring to the fact that Homeland Security was keeping tabs on Jane; hence, why he already knew about Jane. Remember that he suspected Jane of being Red John. Additionally, why would Kirkland be murdering the folks on the fake Red John list, if he were Red John? After he discovered that the list was fake, he was obviously incensed and he attempted to torture the authentic list out Patrick Jane? But Red John knows who the real suspects are! Finally, he was shot at least six times, so come on!

    5. [Thomas McAllister] I doubt that the real Red John will have the dots on his arm. I am not a very smart man, but if I were the head of a secret organization, wherein the members can be identified by a tattoo, I wouldn't have it on my arms or anywhere else. Besides, from the promo for next week's episode, the Sheriff has been identified by smart viewers to be Red John. I doubt that the makers of this show were foolish enough to put such a monumental gem in a promo. I'd be royally pissed if McAllister turned out to be Red John.

------------------One of these guys is Red John----------------------

    6. [Brett Stiles] I had pegged this man to be Red John from the first day, but he is too obvious. Also, assuming that Rosalind's description of Red John was true, then neither Stiles nor the Sheriff can be Red John. But Stiles, being a big player in this game and the leader of Visualize, cannot just go out like a simpleton. I refuse to believe that Stiles simply "died" in the explosion.
    Red John Possibility: 70%

    7. [Ray Haffner] Fits Rosalind description (except the height) . Has a soft spot for Lisbon, so maybe that's why he didn't kill her in the first episode. However, not only does he hate Jane---whereas Red John has a soft spot for Jane---he has been embarrassed by Jane on several occasions. But this may be an act.
    Red John Possibility: 30%

    i) Of course there were dead bodies in the room where the explosion occurred, but I surmise that they were planted.
ii) Patrick put the spot light on Bertram because he knew that Red John doesn't like others taking credit for his work, so he wanted to lure him out.
iii) RJ is the leader of Tyger, Tyger.
iv) Brett Stiles knows the identity of Red John.
    v) Given the proximity of the Sheriff and the suspects who survived, it is practically impossible for him to have been burned to a crisp.
vi) I also noticed that the members of Tyger Tyger, except Red John, of course, do not seem to know who Red John is.

    ReplyDelete
  126. According to the promo it sounds the same.

    ReplyDelete
  127. You have some great points and I agree with a bunch of them, but not all.
I think that, in the end, everyone has someone they suspect so bad that wouldn't even consider/accept other option. But that's the thing about the dramatic showdowns and complicated mysteries, once you learn the whole story, things can change a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Oh shit! You shouldn't have said that. Now I know who Red John is. He is the damn Sheriff. Fuck! No wonder they took down the video from youtube.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Yes, lost of over thinking going on there. I like to make up stories, and have small clues written in that later you can see point to the main plot.

If I were guessing I would say 2,4,8,9 are close?

    ReplyDelete
  130. come on, it's pointless beating about the bush. The CBS promo has already spoilered the RJ's true identity (in fact they turned private that video on their youtube channel). Cheapeau to them /s

    ReplyDelete
  131. Okay so no spoilers about RJ's identity but, do we finally get some kind of kiss between Jane and Lisbon?

    ReplyDelete
  132. 1. Someone using a phrase "your boyfriend" is gonna make a lot of fans happy.

1.maybe PJ says something like * I can se myself being your boyfriend in the future.

    2. the only thing I can come up with is some kind of poker hand, calling the bluff or something. Only here it is with lives at stack
3.The first one is gonna be Rigsby, the other one is Partridge, that has helped PJ since his *dead* and working undercover for him. If his not RJ he's a good guy lol
    4.Def Red John
    5. I try

    6. Red John again lurking out of the shadows when he think he has tricked PJ, just to realize a bit to late that its the other way around.
    7,maybe a ref to getting a scar ?

    8. Cho is the king, and he helps PJ keeping the law enforcmen away so PJ can kill RJ
9.Bertram and McAllistar thay have to keep the Blake inc, up and going for all cost.

This is my guesses, proably way off tho hehe

    ReplyDelete
  133. thank you for replying, wish you can share more hhh

    ReplyDelete
  134. Having it be the sheriff means they copying the ending of "Profiler". That was a popular detective show in the 90's about the main character tracking down a well connected killer. In the end, it turned out that the killer was the hillbilly Sheriff.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Any chance that they keep the creepy voice the same as it was. It's an awesome red john voice and would be great if it was his real voice

    ReplyDelete
  136. Only one voice so his real voice is normal and he puts on the other. Can you answer if it is really really close or more like the one in the promo which is not close at all.

    ReplyDelete
  137. This is awesome!

Do you mind commenting on the promo/trailer for this episode. A lot of people are suspecting the Sheriff because it looks like him. Without telling us who it is do you think the producers would that blatantly show RJ in the promo? Are we missing something?

    ReplyDelete
  138. I would say about 95% of people now think it's Mccalister. I hope it's not :p

    ReplyDelete
  139. That would be awesome if Jane says "I knew you were Red John since the moment we met"

    ReplyDelete
  140. I think the heads of Tyger, Tyger are her poker buddies.

    ReplyDelete
  141. It's not that we don't believe that it couldn't be him. We are all really hoping it's not him. He is the least favourite as Red John

    ReplyDelete
  142. Why there is a guy who appears in every episode no more than 10 seconds, last time he was passing when Bertran left the hospital, this guy never said anything, but is in there every episode... anyone knows or have a theory?

    ReplyDelete
  144. RON? I THINK HE IS THE LEAK IN THE CBI

    ReplyDelete
  145. Jane would never call himself her boyfriend. Jane may hook Lisbon up with a CBI agent I can believe that!
Chris Long a huge writer has said countlessly the show will not go there. Thank goodness!

    ReplyDelete
  146. Ew..
what a slap on her professionalism if day 1 Abbott realizes it.
I like light moments but am sick of writers appeasing fans of a minority. I think the shift to a pair with the steam of two wet noodles did not help ratings and I am pleased less Jane\Lisbon is on the horizon post Red John's end. The flaw last seasons is less focus on characters, team and more Lisbon no strong character playing off Jane and his mind.

Your quote of tie* was scary but I think you mean in theoretical sense. I am happy he will kill Red John. I hypothized more action and writers exploring the end they could not with Timothy Carter's killing in a public place. Do RJ\Jane meet twice? Two scenes: One Jane injuring and Two Jane finishing him off. Simon and RJ marvelous showdown. He always brings it and RJ actor is holding his own.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Red herring and writers having fun. He is not involved as far as I heard from writer.

    ReplyDelete
  148. The two had quite a good amount of heat. Heller writing a Jane\Erica meet up in the future on his 2 year trip and bringing her back shall take place. She is not caught yet.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Normal Jane quite calm in appearance. He has the notion RJ will come find him soon alone..correct.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Person who viewed confirmed it. I believe it. McA makes less sense and I trust him/her.

HI! Your clues are really very entertaining!
SO this is what i came up with
    1) Your Boyfriend : Jane/lisbon
    2) A call from someone related to jane . My guess is high tower or someone who knows abt jane's wife.
3)Wayne Rigsby and grace. at least : so jane traps redjohn
    4) RJ
5)The short hair, the accent , pigeons and the type of coffee.
6)Hi is obviously said by Rj, but i would say that its a dead giveaway..(2 of the seven suspects used Hi!) before
    7) Someone's scarred . Most probably its about the leg found in the explosion, or someone gets stabbed
8)Cho diverts the new FBI team or holds them off. and i guess will chase RJ and stop him.
    9) The new FBI chief and gale bertram.

Please say if I'm close. And also tell me if I'm correct in assuming that the blast didnot Kill not all other suspects. and partridge will play a role in the next episode :)

    ReplyDelete
  152. I would die and laugh my head off. Jane will never say it. He has no romantic motives to her and last thought in the world is of him as her bf. I am more likely to accept him calling RJ boyfriend. Hehe your boyfriend means him calling another man her bf.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Did he/she tell you who it is? I don't want to know the name, just to know if you know.

    ReplyDelete
  154. McAllister is still alive obviously but that doesn't mean he is RJ. McAllister, Bertram, Smith, and Jane all were in the exact same area so how is it that everyone of them except McAllister are alive? I think Jane remembers what happens at his house and he is playing the game once again trying to outsmart RJ just like he did several seasons ago when he pretended to be done with RJ and be dead. I have my pick, I agree go over the clues again and don't count any of the 7 out just because you want it to be someone, look at the clues and how they interact on the episodes with Jane and it will make sense, it will all make sense. the $300 phone thing, maybe RJ called Jane a long time ago when he was doing "Psychic readings" and jane can recall it.

watch Episode 1 of season 6 the ending watch it very closely and you'll see, it will make sense.
Also watch how the suspects interact with Jane in previous episodes

    ReplyDelete
  155. We don't know that they remained in the same place. Recall that there was a gunshot which was followed, not instantly, by an explosion. During this time, some folks may have moved from their original positions.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Just a question: in the second episode this season a nurse asks Lisbon if she her name is Carmen Lee. Is this a clue?

    ReplyDelete
  157. Just a question: in the second episode this season a nurse asks Lisbon if she is a woman called Carmen Lee. Is this a clue?

    ReplyDelete
  158. Guys come on; how come most people still believe that Partridge is Red John? I wanted to jump on the bandwagon, but I am sticking with either Stiles or Hafner.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Got the distinct feeling Jane was waiting for RJ in church:-) Is 6.09 the next day?

I'd love Jane losing it choking, punching and beating him too, literally and figuratively. RJ should suffer.

    ReplyDelete
  160. McAllister? I just don't like the idea of him being Red John. I want him to be a familiar face, not a character we've only seen in one episode before this season.

    ReplyDelete
  161. My least favourite is McAllister :(

    ReplyDelete
  162. same here bettyboo just posted my theory on my blog and the who is red john website naming Ron as the mole hehe

    ReplyDelete
  163. First post. Thoughts:

    * Shawn Barlow looks like the guy in the church, and it sounds like his voice. 1) The ring on the guys hand in the promo for the epi looks like Shawn Barlow's ring. 2) The red pyramid in the church looks like Shawn Barlow's red pyramid. 3) The voice talking about the "game" and all sounds like Shawn Barlow's voice.

    * Shawn Barlow killed Jane's family, but Shawn Barlow is NOT Red John. He's RJ's father or some such, or at least believes that RJ is psychic, as he believes himself to be, etc. In other words, there is a relationship there between Shawn Barlow and RJ somehow.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Sorry, I really can't confirm/deny it.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Have a little more faith in writers ;)

    ReplyDelete
  166. Nice guesses! A few are definitely right. One is the other way around.
And I'm glad you're enjoying the clues ;)

I believe Lisbon is Carmen Lee. It is a reference to the opera Carmen, in which the female lead, Carmen, is swept off her feet by the dashing bullfighter Escamillo. Haffner sees himself as the bullfighter (who uses a RED cloak in the bullfighting ring) in this scenario. The Lee refers to a place of safety during a storm. Essentially, Red John (Haffner) did not harm Lisbon when he could have. Also, Haffner was whistling the Toreador (bullfighter) Song from Carmen when he exited Lisbon's hospital room.

    ReplyDelete
  170. And Haffner is perhaps RJ ... both Haffner AND McC survived the blast. This is the "two people are smarter than it seems" clue.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Meh. Familiar face has its down sides - too obvious maybe. I think some peoples issue is that he appeared right at the start, but that's what makes it SO GOOD. Ppl seemed fine with Haffner and he only appeared in 2 eps, so what's wrong with one less? What matters most is the character, and the actor. Plus the execution of the whole thing.

    ReplyDelete
  172. So because they're both sheriff's, that means that it is COPYING it? How exactly? Does Profiler mean a show can no longer have a serial killer who is also a sheriff? EVER?

    ReplyDelete
  173. When Lorelei told Jane the list of suspects in the video in the end of season 5, she listed each person's name. There was only one person she listed differently than the others. I always wondered if it was just sloppy writing or RJ was meant to be too stupid to notice Lorelei giving Jane this obvious clue or if he wanted her to reveal his identity to Jane.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Hi Justyna.
I always thought Rosalind was a key character. Is she going to appear in the episode?

    A few thoughts:
    Stiles, kirkland, Haffner: Deceased.
Partridge and McAllister: Alive and one of them RJ
    Bertram gets killed

    ReplyDelete
  175. Awesome preview!!
Whether is RJ in this yours voting Pool of suspects with his exact real name?
    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  176. I think Robert Picardo (Jason Cooper) could be Red John.

    ReplyDelete
  177. There is a small sentence below your article and right before the poll section where you say "... just to cover all bases". Should I think that this might be a clue or I need serious professional help? Because that's exactly what Kirkland said to Smith (in their small coffee party) goes like "I like to cover all my bases"... :)))

    ReplyDelete
  178. She already said that RJ is one of the seven suspects. Look for the somewhere comment below.

    ReplyDelete
  179. I think it was confirmed a lot of times already that RJ is one of the 7 suspects.

    ReplyDelete
  180. He did? I haven't noticed it! But nice catch anyway! :)
I figured that I would just include all seven suspects to see how things changed since last season, plus there are so many fans' theories about each of them, so... That's not really meant as a clue ;)

    ReplyDelete
  181. Thank you :)
And yes, RJ is one of the seven suspects, it's been confirmed by the creators on many occasions :)

    ReplyDelete
  182. Really? I don't really see what would indicate that since I was talking about general fans' opinion. I guess, it's just a matter of interpretation.

    ReplyDelete
  183. -1. Someone using a phrase "your boyfriend" is gonna make a lot of fans happy.
    >> RJ to Lisbon
    - 2. Some calls are worth so much more than 300 $.

    - 3. At least two people turn out to be much smarter than it seems.

    - 4. Some people just need an appreciation.
    >>Bertram

    >> Phobia, tatoo, RJ sparing Lisbon

    >> No Idea
    - 8. It's always good to have Cho on your side.
    >> Helps Jane to catch RJ somehow
    - 9. Some people are VERY determined to do their job.

    >> Lisbon arrests Jane after he killed RJ

    ReplyDelete
  184. I like the fact that he appeared right at the start. But I don't like the fact that he ONLY appeared in ONE episode right at the start.

    ReplyDelete
  185. You clearly didn't watch profiler. Let me explain how it goes down- Main character searches for years to find mysterious killer. Main character runs into someone who claims to be the killer, but then turns out to be a decoy (Timothy Carter, anyone). Years later, main character finally discovers the killer. It's a hillbilly sheriff from a small town who has often helped the main character with other cases. If you had seen the show you would also note how similar it is to the Red John storyline. Someone on Imdb who is also a fan of Profiler mentioned the same thing.

    ReplyDelete
  186. Which name is that?

    ReplyDelete
  187. This show is so addicted, it will be kind of sad when RJ storyline be over.:( Well, let' see the teasers.:) 1.I don't think that's said by Jane or Lisbon, probably someone would refer Jane as Lisbon's boyfriend, i guess new FBI man. 2.Have no clue. Maybe Patrick got a clue from some of his last talks with RJ. Or it is related to Jane and Lisbon, he will call her from South America or something. 3.Rigsby and Van Pelt. Or maybe Partridge, if he is RJ or his pall. 4.RJ, no doubt. 5.RJ likes tea, have a phobia(pigeons?), hate to someone else get a credit for his 'work'? Always has to be smartest person in the room? Want to be taken seriously? 6.This is probably is going to be in 'Hi, Patrick'. 7.There is going to be some massacre or it is related to explosion in Patrick's house? 8.Cho probably is going to distract FBI and help Patrick to be first who catch RJ. Or help him to get away after confrontation. 9.Bertram, for sure. That's why he is reacted like he did in 6x07. If Partridge is RJ that would be great, his arm and everything, but i'am going with Haffner. He just fits. But no matter who is, somehow i think that is going to be some big twist(s). Like, one or more of 5 dead suspects are alive, Patrick wouldn't kill RJ or he realised who he is earlier and cooperate with some of them, or something. Can't wait for sunday to see how exactly i'm guessed or missed.:)

    ReplyDelete
