Scene Of The Week - November 10, 2013 - POLL

10 Nov 2013

A weekly feature in which we're trying to find most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great scenes that we've seen recently.

AGENTS OF SHIELD, "F.Z.Z.T.", November 5, 2013, Actors: Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge and more
The Scenes: Fitz joins Simmons in the lab & Jemma jumps out of the plane
Justyna Kubica:
I think this episode was my favorite so far. And that's probably why it was so hard to pick the best scene in it. There were just so many great ones. Coulson staying with the dying fireman, his talk with May at the end, Fitz realizing Jemma has always been there next to him, them trying to find a cure together while the rest of the team stands behind the glass (hoping it's gonna work) and many more. I could easily write about any of them, but I ended up choosing the moment when Fitz figures out the cure worked but Jemma has already left the lab and jumps out of the plane before he can save her life. Because it's just such a powerful scene, that says so much about those characters. Simmons decides to save her team when she thinks there is no hope for her. And Fitz, despite his fear, immediately wants to go after her, not letting her go. Seeing him scream desperately behind the glass was absolutely heartbreaking, but I'm glad we got to see a moment like this. Because that's the thing about the characters in general. The best way to actually make the viewers care about them is to put them in extreme situations like that so that people see who they really are and want to root for them. That's not always the case, but in this show, it worked out perfectly. After this very emotional episode, I feel much closer to most of the characters and I can't wait to see what's next for them. Also, I have to say, everyone in the cast did a wonderful job this week!
Jamie Coudeville: I loved all of the Fitz-Simmons scenes in this episode but this one just broke my heart. The way Fitz yelled out for her was heartwrenching.
A Dahne: Fitz joins Simmons in the lab, knowing that he might become infected too - I really enjoy the Fitz-Simmons banter every week, but by showcasing them this week, it became SHIELD's best episode so far. Very well-acted, they rocked from smart, problem-solving dialogue to the emotional depths of two people who have worked together for much of their lives and know each other so well. While Jemma's act of courage is much splashier, I love how Fitz too stepped up to be there for his friend when she needed him most.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN, "Burn, Witch. Burn!", November 6, 2013, Actors: Jessica Lange, Frances Conroy
The Scenes: Fiona brings the stillborn baby back to life & Myrtle Snow is burned at the stake
Klutzy Girl:
Fiona brings the baby back to life. That was a great thing she did and she didn't even have to do it.
Christopher Reilly: Myrtle Snow is burned at the stake to the tune of “Right Place Wrong Time.” Between the music, the location, and the performances of Francis Conroy and Jessica Lange, it was quite the memorable moment. Also picked by DarkUFO

ARROW, "League of Assassins", November 6, 2013, Actors: Caity Lotz, Paul Blackthorne, Stephen Amell
The Scenes: Sara says goodbye & Black Canary and Arrow fight off the League of Assassins
Justyna Kubica:
And just like a week before, I absolutely loved all the scenes with Sara, she's such a brilliant character and it was great to see her interacting with Team Arrow and more importantly, with her father Quentin. My favorite moment this time is the entire scene in Sara's place, the fight with three League of Assassins members and then saying goodbye to her dad. First of all, I'm not really an expert, but I think this action sequence was really well done. I was impressed! I loved the way Sara was handling those guys and the Arrow's entrance, and the fact that Quentin fought off one of the bad guys on his own. And as for a very emotional moment later, when the fight ends and Sara knows she has to leave, it was just so beautifully done. The fact that Quentin still saw Sara as his daughter, not a killer and embraced her was so meaningful. I felt really bad for everyone there. But Detective Lance's desperate words "I can't let you go" almost left me in tears. Incredible work by the actors, especially Paul Blackthorne. I have to say, I already miss Sara. But I hope that knowing his little girl is alive is gonna help Quentin go on. Even though it's the hardest thing he ever had to do.
Bradley Adams: Sara has an emotional moment with Quentin and leaves the city.
Christopher Reilly: Sarah Lance kills a League of Assassins member in front of her father. She’s been dreading all along that she’d lose her family’s love once they saw what she’s becoming so it’s wonderful when Detective Lance embraces her without hesitation.
A Dahne: This was one of my favorite episodes and 5 of my top 10 scenes were from Arrow this week. Since I can only choose one, I picked Black Canary and Arrow fighting the League of Assassins in the abandoned factory. This was one of the most thrilling action scenes I've ever seen on TV. Kudos to Bamford, the stunt coordinator, who makes every fight scene feel fresh. I especially loved when Black Canary was fighting two of the assassins as one. She kicks butt!

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, "Reunion", November 4, 2013, Actors: Kristin Kreuk, Jay Ryan
The Scene: Vincent apologizes to Cat
Lilith Hellfire:
Vincent realizes just what Cat goes through to not only keep his secret the toll their relationship has taken on her life. He apologizes and promises her that it won't always be like this and they share a small kiss.

BOARDWALK EMPIRE, "Marriage and Hunting", November 3, 2013, Actor: Michael Shannon
The Scene: Nelson Van Alden shows others whom he really is
Darth Locke:
After nearly 2 seasons of pretending to be the cowardly George Mueller, Nelson Van Alden comes clean and shows others around him whom he really is. Van Alden is back!

CASTLE, "Like Father, Like Daughter", November 4, 2013, Actors: Stana Katic, Molly Quinn
The Scene: Alexis hugs Beckett (picked by Babar Suhail)

DROP DEAD DIVA, "Jane's Secret Revealed", November 3, 2013, Actors: Brooke Elliot, Faith Prince
The Scene: The real Jane's mother tells Deb she loves her
Lilith Hellfire:
The real Jane's mother tells Deb with her last dying breath that she knows that she is not her daughter and has known since she was shot but still loves her anyway whoever she is.

ELEMENTARY, "The Marchioness", November 7, 2013, Actor: Jonny Lee Miller
The Scene: Holmes wonders if he'd have been better off born in a different era
(picked by Dominick Grace)

HAWAII FIVE 0, "Ua Nalohia (In Deep)", November 8, 2013, Actor: Scott Caan
The Scene: Danny tells the baby a story about Steve
Bradley Adams:
Danny tells the baby a.. not so carefully disguised story about Steve. That was fantastic.

HOMELAND, "Still Positive", November 3, 2013, Actors: Claire Danes, Rupert Friend
The Scene: Carrie and Quinn try to save the mother
Sharon Seymour:
Carrie and Quinn try to save the mother only to be confronted with a bloodbath.
Also picked by DarkUFO

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, "The Lighthouse", November 4, 2013, Actors: Josh Radnor, Cristin Milioti, Neil Patrick Harris, Cobie Smulders
The Scenes: Robin tells Barney about her infertility & Ted's proposal to The Mother
Klutzy Girl:
Robin tells Barney about her infertility and he hugs her. I've been waiting for this for years and his reaction didn't disappoint. It was so sweet.
Babar Suhail: I am glad that the creators are showing us key moments in Ted and The Mother. Ted's proposal to The Mother was beautiful. I actually like it that he didn't do a grand gesture and that the proposal was effortless. And The Mother's reaction to the proposal was also really cute.
Jamie Coudeville: This scene totally made up for the lack of the mother in the previous episodes. It was so genuine and simple. I love seeing Ted so happy.
Pablozky21: It was a perfect ending for a perfect episode; there hasn't been a lot of moments with the mother so far, but the ones we have had are gold. Seeing Ted so happy, on his knees and the mother saying yes immediately is extremely satisfying considering how many times we had to see Ted hurt and now it's clearer than ever that his happy ending is coming; we knew it all along, but now we get to see it.

ONCE UPON A TIME, "Ariel", November 3, 2013, Actors: Jennifer Morrison, Colin O'Donoghue, Michael Raymond-James and more
The Scenes: Hook's secret & Regina meets the real Ursula & Emma's secret
Virginia Fontana:
Hook confesses his feelings about Emma. Although Emma then turned around and told Neal he's her love, it was intense and romantic that Hook announced his own inclinations.
Sylvie C: Emma telling Neal she was hoping he was dead because it will be much easier than loosing him again.
Christopher Reilly: The Evil Queen is shocked when the real Ursula makes herself known and warns Regina not to impersonate her again. In an episode that puts a lot of fun twists on the classic fairy tale of the Little Mermaid, this one was my favorite and “Community” star Yvette Nicole Brown providing her voice was the cherry on top of the sundae.

PERSON OF INTEREST, "The Perfect Mark", November 5, 2013, Actors: Michael Emerson, Taraji P. Henson, Amy Acker and more
The Scene: Laskey and Terney die & Finch and Root talk about the Machine & Reese walks into the auction room
Sharon Seymour:
Carters's partner Laskey is killed as Carter kills Terney.
Lilith Hellfire: Finch goes to Root to give her some books to read and Root once again tells him that he's going against The Machine's wishes by detaining her. She accuses him of being jealous of her relationship with The Machine but she assures him that "mother" still loves them both.
Also picked by DarkUFO
Bradley Adams: Reese walks into the auction room, says "Terney", nods at him, then hits him over the face with a chair. The casual brilliance from Reese was fantastic.

REVENGE, "Dissolution", November 3, 2013, Actors: Emily VanCamp, Gabriel Mann, Nick Wechsler
The Scene: Emily tells Jack and Nolan about her secret plan
Virginia Fontana:
This scene was excellent because Emily showed how much she cares for these two and how incredibly important they are in her life. In addition, it also started to clue the audience in on Em's master plan to frame Victoria.
Pablozky21: Absolutely shocking and wonderful; the entire season until now I thought that something was going to go wrong on Emily's plan (and it still might), but learning that she planned all along to get shot at her wedding not only took off guard, but makes total sense considering the genius mind of Emily.

REVOLUTION, "The Patriot Act", November 6, 2013, Actors: Tracy Spiridakos, Elizabeth Mitchell
The Scene: Charlie hugs Rachel
Jamie Coudeville:
These two have a long way to go in their relationship but this was definitly a step in the right direction. Loved this moment, great acting.

SLEEPY HOLLOW, "The Sin Eater", November 4, 2013, Actors: Tom Mison, Nicole Beharie, John Noble
The Scenes: Ichabod says goodbye to Abbie & Abbie teaches Ichabod the fine art of heckling umpires & Henry frees Ichabod from his "sin"
Klutzy girl:
Ichabod calls Abbie by her first name for the first time. That was adorable, especially since he had basically just referred to them as soulmates.
Justyna Kubica: It was a very emotional moment, one of the most powerful on the show so far. Ichabod decides to give up his own life to end the existence of Death, the horseman and he drinks a poison after a meaningful goodbye coversation with Abbie. Even though his life is eventually saved in the next scene, I really enjoyed seeing both characters' development in this talk. I think the danger of their situation and the need to stay together against all this evil is becoming very clear to Crane and Mills. The scene was beautifully acted by Tom Mison and Nicole Beharie. Especially the part where Ichabod uses Abbie's first name for the 1st time and she starts crying the second she realizes that, because it's the moment the reality of his choice hits her. And it hurts. The way Ichabod calmly explains his actions, despite being terrified and Abbie stays with her friend, even though it's such a painful experience, those are the kind of things that make me really like these characters even more than I did before. It also makes me think how much stronger they are together and gives hope they are gonna fight off the evil standing on their way. Go team!
Sylvie C: Ichabod and Abbie whole conversation about his possible death to kill the horseman. The scene was so heartbroken and I saw how deeply they care about each other.
A Dahne: Abbie teaches Ichabod the fine art of heckling umpires - While drama abounded in this episode, I particularly liked the humor of the opening scene. It was nice to see Abbie so passionate about baseball and then when Ichabod started heckling the ump too, even though he hadn't made a call yet, I burst out laughing. I love these two's banter in the smaller moments and Ichabod getting used to the modern world is played perfectly.
Darth Locke: Henry Parish realizes that it is his responsibility to take away others sins and helps Ichabod separate from his connection to one of the Horseman.

SUPERNATURAL, "Dog Dean Afternoon", November 5, 2013, Actors: Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki
The Scene: Dean tries to shot a pigeon
Sylvie C:
Jensen is really great in those comedic scenes. I was laughing so hard I almost cried.

THE BIG BANG THEORY, "The Proton Displacement", November 7, 2013, Actors: Johnny Galecki, Bob Newhart, The Scene: Leonard explains to Professor Proton why he puts up with Sheldon
(picked by Babar Suhail)

THE BLACKLIST, "Frederick Barnes (No. 47)", November 4, 2013, Actors: James Spader, Deborah S. Craig
The Scene: Red thinks about his daughter and blows up their old house
Darth Locke:
Red reminisces seemingly about his daughter in a house he once lived in, before blowing it to smithereens.

THE ORIGINALS, "Fruit of the Poisoned Tree", November 5, 2013, Actors: Daniel Gillies, Phoebe Tonkin and more, The Scenes: Hayley and Elijah in the pool & Elijah kills Agnes
Virginia Fontana:
Hayley and Elijah's scene in the pool. The chemistry between these two is amazing!
Tessa Marlene: Elijah shows everyone who's the boss when he appears at the church. Poor witches thought he was the nice one in the family. They should've thought again before they threatened his family.

THE WALKING DEAD, "Indifference", November 3, 2013, Actors: Andrew Lincoln, Melissa McBride
The Scene: Rick tells Carol she can't come back to the Prison (picked by Sharon Seymour)

    3. Gillian tells some partial 'truths' about her past to Roy. This had really nice word play with nice "sun" and "son" contrasts, as we have three references to Jimmy, but only one of them actually being Jimmy! (3 in 1 concept again). Jimmy's actual ends are still never mentioned!

    The Blacklist
    1. Liz Keen kills Frank Barnes
2, Red meets up with his Cuban Contact! (Nice to see David Zayas and this scene is remincent to Jack Bristow's Havana excursion on an episode of Alias).

    OUAT in Wonderland
    1. Jafar turns Amara into his serpent staff.
    2. The Queen of Hearts reaches out to touch the Knaves heart after being turned to stone.

Revenge: Emily letting Jack & Nolan in on her plan, about the day Victoria goes to prison for murdering Emily Thorne!

    Homeland: Hello..Carrie's gazillion pregnancy tests!
TBBT: Leonard telling Jeffries why he's friends with Sheldon..adorable scene.
TVD: Loved the scenes with Katherine & Caroline, but mainly, the whole scene once Silas interrupts Damon and Elena at the Salvatore house and Jeremy coming with the crossbow was really good.
    Elementary: The opening scene.

  8. Agents of SHIELD: Fitz joins Simmons in the lab and Jemma jumps out of the plane.

I was a little iffy about FitzSimmons in the beginning but after this episode, I am emotionally invested in them.

    Arrow: Sara says goodbye.

It has only been a few episodes and I am already attached to Sara. I can't wait till she comes back.

Sleepy Hollow: Ichabod says goodbye to Abbie.

This scene emotionally ruined me and it's a perfect example of why I love their friendship.

  9. Same scenes! ;)
And yeah, I am already attached to Sara too. Can't wait for her to come back. She's such a brilliant character.

  10. I loved the fact that despite the painful confession from Emma, Neal's first reaction was to hug her and to admit he's gonna keep fighting for her. Lovely moment.
And yes to the Katherine & Caroline scenes. They were brilliant together!

  12. SHIELD/ - Jemma and Leo in the lab.

Boardwalk - Agreed with the Nelson showing his true colours - brilliant work by Michael Shannon

  13. Yes to OUAT in Wonderland and The Blacklist. I really enjoyed both episodes. I'm actually interested to learn more about The Knave and Red Queen's history. Ah, I hate how horrible the ratings for this show are!

    ReplyDelete
  14. I really enjoy the scenes where all three Originals interact. They are so great together, it's always fun to watch. Also, loved Klaus' proud smile there! He made me laugh so hard!

    ReplyDelete
  15. If you're not choosing the Ichabod and Abbie say goodbye scene in Sleepy Hollow, then you didn't see it. Because if you did, there would be no contest.

    ReplyDelete
  16. The Walking Dead scene has me totally obsessed. I've spent much more time reading, discussing, and looking up opinions related to last week's The Walking Dead than on doing anything productive.

    ReplyDelete
  17. For me it was Fiona bringing the baby back to life in AHS & the Rick and Carol scene in TWD.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I enjoyed the SOA scene too, great performance from Katey Sagal.

  19. Same, I like reading what people thought too even if I don't know how I feel about it lol

  20. Yes to The Originals - soooo many brilliant scenes this week!
And Arrow - Let´s hope Sara is back soon. Also, I loved that Quentin had more scenes, I´m really liking his character.
    And Haven.....ofcourse.
I also voted for TWD, great episode with such a huge dilemma.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yes, The Originals ruled this week! So many fantastic scenes! Loved Klaus and Cami´s scene aswell.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I have to say I didn't expect that twist with William on Haven, so that made the scene even better! Plus, Nathan showing up was just lovely.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Such a huge dilemma on TWD this week. I do not have a favorite scene though, it was the built up through the episode that made it so tense. I knew Rick was up to something, but it seemed like he didn´t make up his mind until the end.

  27. He didn't, which is my response to those who say he should have consulted with the council first. It was the things she said while on the trip that clinched his decision to not let her return, therefore he couldn't bring her back to check with the council.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Grimm. Monroe tells Rosalee he loves her, and she tells him she loves him, too.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Elementary, hands down. Jonny Lee Miller hit the scene in the support group out of the park. Especially considering that he did most of the monologue in one go, without any cuts.

    ReplyDelete
  30. NCIS: The end scene where Jackson Gibbs tells the dying German pilot that Leroy Jethro Gibbs is the best person he knows.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Damn it, I forgot about that! Another one of my honorable mentions.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Sleepy Hollow: Ichabod says goodbye to Abby

Arrow: Sara and Quentin reunite, and the scene where they say goodbye. Also, her teaming up with Arrow against the assassins was great. Nice fight scene.

Agents of Shield: Lots of great scenes. I agree on the Coulson & Fitz and Simmons scenes.

Once Upon A Time: All the secret reveals.

Walking Dead: Rick banishes Carol from the group, drives away.

The Originals: Elijah and Hayley in the pool; Elijah kills the witch.

    Revolution: Charlie hugs Rachel.

Beauty and the Beast: Vincent apologizes.

    ReplyDelete
  33. My, favorite scene was when Vincent let Catherine know how much he appreciates how much she gives up for him, and when Elijah took care of the evil witch how proud that made Klaus, don't they know you don't mess with Elijah family, those were my favorite scenes!!

  37. Back In Black Tricksteress 9511 November 2013 at 07:11

I only watch Arrow and Supernatural up-to-date the rest I'm waiting for DVD.
Supernatural- That was a funny scene. There was also others such as Sam giving the dog a bellyrub was just as funny. Some powerful ones was when Sam healed himself, Dean woke up Sam (with a hint of black comedy) and the ending scene.
Arrow- The scenes with Sarah are pretty kickass and she is a great character to have around.

    ReplyDelete
  38. BATB - Vincent apologises to Catherine after realising the lengths she's gone to save him <3

    ReplyDelete
  39. Way to many great scenes this week to only go with 3. :(

    Blacklist the house is gone
Originals Elijah kills witch, be sure you understand all of what he is saying. lol
Supernatural, the pigeon and also my favorite one was Dean fetching. That was so normal and not overplayed..perfect.
Person of Interest had several I liked
    Revenge the plan
Elementary talk of living in a different time
Arrow, all of it, the fights were fantastic.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Haven: William reveals his true intentions to Audrey. Significant also because it finally brings us one (tiny) step closer to figuring out the mystery behind the Trouble and the Barn.
Betrayal: The series of events leading up to Sara's husband figuring out that she was cheating on him was well done. Having his wife's cell phone ring at the same time he watched Jack making a phone call was good TV drsma.
I loved the Arrow, Revenge, Once Upon a Time and Sleepy Hollow scenes mentioned above. It becomes more and more difficult to pick a favorite!

  41. I know I'm going to get a lot of hate from the crazy Robin/Barney shippers that have taken over the fanbase of my favorite show, but it's a bit sad that some random forgettable scene between them (didn't even remember it, until I read about it here!) gets more votes than Ted's proposal to the Mother...

    ReplyDelete
  42. You know, I'm not quite sure it's a "shipper" thing, it may be more about the fact that people do not feel so attached to Ted & the Mother at this point (yet), since we don't really know her that well and those significant moments between them are just not so powerful when you barely know the couple. Also, I've heard people complaining about the special effects (green screen, I think?) used in this scene, so maybe that's also a reason against it. Personally I loved it!

And as for the Robin&Barney scene, well, it might have been random to you, but many people have waited for a long time to see Barney's reaction to Robin's news about kids and it was nice to finally see it, especially considering what a lovely moment it ended up being between the two.
In the end, I guess, it's just a matter of opinion ;)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Tell me about it. It's so hard to choose! ;)
But yeah, I loved the fact we're getting closer to the mystery behind the Trouble and the Barn. So many theories at this point. Can't wait to learn more! Really enjoying season 4 so far!
