Ratings News - 4th November 2013
Nov 4, 2013
American Dad Bob's Burgers Cancelled Shows Family Guy Once Upon A Time Ratings Revenge The Good Wife The SimpsonsThis table shows the early overnight ratings. These ratings are normally adjusted later in the day when all the ratings have been consolidated to take into account any local preemptions and/or overruns. You can find all the final adjusted numbers in our Ratings Database. (See the About section below for details about ratings)
Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.
The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).
Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.
Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.
Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.
If you’re interested in Ratings/Renewals/Cancellations then we have a number of resources here at SpoilerTV that we recommend you check out.

Did The Walking Dead explode the Nielsen boxes again? Ahah
ReplyDeleteIs it just me or are we missing some of the info?
ReplyDeleteNo analysis from Berman today?
ReplyDeleteIt says the ratings are delayed.
ReplyDeleteRatings are delayed.
ReplyDeleteProbably due to the daylight savings/time change.
ReplyDeleteDaylight savings >.<! Now I'll have to wait an extra hour to see how my shows performed :(.
ReplyDeleteI hope OUAT and Revenge rose this week; with all the promotion and buzz the OUAT got for feturing Ariel it might rise and help Revenge in the way. Crossing my fingers!
Ya,forgot about that,thanks!
ReplyDeleteQuestion to kill time:
ReplyDeleteIf a show starts at 10:59 pm like the Mentalist, does it get specialed out or whatever, or does it have to air completely outside primetime? How does that work?
Last night had to be more painful than normal. It was really 11:59, so everyone probably fell asleep sooner than usual, haha
I am not sure I understand your question. Do you mean if it is labeled as special so as not to count for the annual averages that Nielsen releases from the show's ratings? If so, I honestly do not know the answer but I would expect it to still be counted. Regardless, those averages are 100% PR material, since they are terribly misleading by including both repeats and originals, thus effectively hurting the shows that do repeat well.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that was basically my question, but if a show does air outside primetime during a sweeps period, do those ratings get presented exactly the same as ratings from airings within primetime? Are there any asterisks at all when advertisers look at the data later? I've always known that some airings get labeled as special, but I was unclear as to why and what effect that has at the end of the day when rate setting and renew/xcl decision-making.
ReplyDeleteI am also glad I don't watch The Mentalist, I feel for its fan by how badly this show has been treated, it would annoy the hell out of me.
ReplyDeleteAs for your question, the "special" labeling only counts as a way for networks not to include those airings in the averages at the end of the season. But those averages are pretty much useless because of what I explained before, so it doesn't really matter. I don't know, other than that, if there is any sort of asterisk here or something honestly, but I doubt it. If advertisers find that only 1.3 out of the adults 18-49 watched the show, they will only pay for those, period. They certainly aren't willing to lose in the deal, regardless of whose fault that is.
Aw in the UK we no longer get the ratings earlier as our clocks went back before the US :( Back to normal 5pm I guess
ReplyDeleteSame here in Portugal ahah
ReplyDeleteIf a show starts after 11PM ET, it doesn't count. I'm really surprised that CBS didn't put in an extra minute of commercials during the next three hours and just "bump" the new episode of TM to next week. This would give them an extra new episode to air in the future. (Usually MT/PT would get a "special/repeat" that doesn't count.) This would let local news start at 11/10. Curious that they'd make that call.
ReplyDeleteThanks. That clears it up. I think Mentalist is clearly headed to cancellation, but I fear CBS sending another show to the same fate. I can't see any show doing well there.
ReplyDeleteYeah, airing it at 10:59 essentially sealed its fate, as I understood it.
ReplyDelete1.7 for Revenge! I am happy
ReplyDeleteI am betting on its cancellation too. I think CBS needs to use the sports overruns better, which requires them to move 60 Minutes. I think put 60 Minutes at the end of the night at 10pm since there is no loss anyway and put sports friendly shows airing earlier on, like Survivor. Survivor-TAR-60 Minutes should work fine.
ReplyDeleteI would love the Survivor/TAR combination. That's an awesome idea. However, I can't imagine many 60 Minutes fans would be able to stay up. I'm fairly convinced that CBS starts with a base of three million viewers every single night just from the septuagenarians falling asleep in their recliners after Jeopardy.
ReplyDeleteIt was good while it lasted wasn't it? haha.
ReplyDeleteAs fan of the show, I feel bad. TM deserves a better treatment. That's a shame.

Ahah. I am sure they won't move 60 Minutes though, I just think they should change the system so that their lineup takes advantage of the sports overuns, because there is a big problem of compatibility with sports-60 minutes- tar. Its using the sports lead-in to waste basically when it could be used to boost tar and the other programs. At the very least, they should preempt it when there are over-runs I think and use comedy repeats to fill in for the remaining time.
ReplyDeleteyep it definitely was :)
ReplyDeleteWow, Revenge jumped three tenths?! Before I pump my fist in the air, does anyone know if there were some gargantuan preemptions?
ReplyDeleteSo much yes for that Revenge rising! 1.7 is not great but is not awful. And I believe it's the best rating it had since episode 2! Keep that up Revenge, let your upward trend start now ;)
ReplyDeleteRevenge having 1.8 in the half-hour is a good sign, right? *is hopeful*
ReplyDeleteouat up again very happy :)
ReplyDeleteWill we see the Mentalist's numbers?
ReplyDeleteI'm a little bit confused about the time changing but I'm happy for OUAT.
ReplyDeleteI think Revenge will be ajusted down. Wait and see.
ReplyDeleteIt didn't air last night did it?
ReplyDeleteNice night for ABC, everything is up from last week; OUAT and Betrayal up a tenth and Revenge up three-tenths.
ReplyDeleteThe Good Wife up two-tenths but will most probably be adjusted down.
even if it is, a 1.6 is better than 1.4. Up is up
ReplyDeleteGood for Revenge!
ReplyDeleteI guess it was swapped to a repeat at the last minute.
ReplyDeleteit's a shame CBS is killing the mentalist with this change to sunday , one of my all time favorite shows.
ReplyDeleteYay for Once Upon a Time up a tenth and Revenge up three tenths from last week! Both episodes last night were simply fantastic.
ReplyDeleteThat was helpful. Thank you! It's interesting to see if 1-Hour shows shed, gain, or retain viewers through each half hour mark.
ReplyDeleteWell episode #9 will be aired a week late because of some music awards if that helps aha...
ReplyDeleteDamn you Sundays!
ReplyDeleteIt's rare that we get good news from the nowadays! Happy about both!
ReplyDeleteThis! It would be amazing if Revenge could pull the opposite of what happened last year, with it going higher as the year goes by. I don't see it happening, but it would be awesome!
