    The best episode this season!

  2. Prof. Ivo, Amazo, "Be aware of your surrounding," and League of Assassins. I like the DC universe reference this show keeps throwing at us, lol.

It was fun seeing Oliver fight without his costume on.

  3. Awesome. My second favorite episode of Arrow so far. The biggest thrill was of course the action scenes. I especially like the one in the clocktower because for once it was well lit and I could see all the moves instead of glimping them in shadows. Kudos to Bamfrod for raising the bar on TV stunt sequences. I also loved how each dramatic scene felt 100% earned. Many times shows have emoangsting for drama's sake and it always comes off as cheesy and melodramatic for me. In this episode I really felt for the characters. I understood where they were coming from and very little seemed over the top. Caity Lotz and Paul Blackthorne did an outstanding job and I am glad they both got to shine in several places here. All in all, this was an excellent episode.

  4. Agreed about letting Oliver fight instead of being in Arrow personna. It was fun, but more importantly it allowed us to really see how Stephen Amell's acting has grown. His look when he thought Malcolm was back was very well done.

  5. This was an action packed episode! From beginning to end.

  6. It was badass!!! Loved all the fighting and DC references!! I did NOT think Sara would reveal herself to her father so quickly, but i'm glad she did. And i gotta say he handled it a lot well then i thought he would! And i loved them fighting side by side. Like daddy like daughter! Sara and Ollie fighting at the house was really cool, it was good to see Ollie fighting out of his uniform. And i loved when Sara took down the decor and used it as a weapon!! HA!! I thought that was awesome, she was quick! Her adoring the team! I loved that so much, she was really impressed, and she actually called Diggle "Dig" like she knew him all along. She just kinda fit right in. I LOVE Sara. Through the scenes she had with her dad, i just kept thinking, he could see how much she changed. And she's so much stronger. I kept thinking during her fight scenes, man Laurel really needs to take a page out of her book! And Ollie was Sara's first "practice" wow! Didn't see that coming. I loved everything about this episode, and i can't wait til next week. I want to see Diggle's wife. Again, amazing episode. They really did step their game up this season.

  8. so far this season has had a sold 5 episodes lets hope for another 5 our lets be greedy and say another 20

  9. Not according to this episode. However, who knows if something will keep her from leaving or what will bring her back. Although I dislike the idea of such an amazing character being AWOL, I really, really like that they did not kill her. I can't wait for her return because I miss her already.

  10. Amazing episode. Perhaps the series best.

    * The League of Assassins were fantastic. I'm really glad they didn't change it to League of Shadows like in the Nolan movies. The fight scenes were all incredible, and this show deserves more recognition for it.
    * I liked Oliver respecting Sarah's need for secrecy. He knows exactly how that is.
    * The meeting between Sarah, Felicity, and Diggle was awesome. You could tell that she is lonely and feels left out, but is happy at that Oliver has found such friends.
    * There is no sane reason for having Laurel on the prosecution. They can spit as many explanations of "You're exaggerating Laurel's closeness to the Queen's" as you want, but it just doesn't work. Not to mention she's mostly doing it just to give her career a boost.
    * I liked all of the Quentin/Sarah scenes. He knows how much she's changed, that she has killed, but she's still his daughter and he will love and accept her no matter what. These two need more scenes together.
    * The Felicity/Sarah scenes were great. Felicity was very kind no Sarah, especially when she had every reason not to be. Sarah could use a friend, and I hope they give her a friendship with Felicity. And at least this Lance sister doesn't look at Felicity like she's beneath her.
    * I loved the scene with Quentin/Felicity, where he tells her that he's in danger every time he puts on his uniform. Really poignant.
    * I was actually feeling sorry for Laurel for a moment during her scene with Oliver (so glad he rejected her by the way. Also, hanging out with the son of the person you are prosecuting is pretty damn dumb and a CONFLICT OF INTEREST.) But I stopped feeling sorry for he as much when I remembered that she was the one that rejected Oliver in the premiere and just rolled my eyes. Also, her treatment of her father annoyed me. That said, Katie Cassidy gave a pretty good performance tonight. Shocking, but I'll admit it.
    * "What are you without your side-arm?" "A guy with a spare."

  11. It is having an amazing sophomore year. The pace is faster, the characters more interesting, the emoiton more earned. Heck even the flash backs are intriguing. Almost everything I had on my Arrow wish list is coming to fruition. I cannot wait to see what th remainder of the season brings us.

    ReplyDelete
  12. One of the best episodes of the series!

The action scenes were great as usual, but the dramatic pay off was great as well!

Almost 30 episodes of Quentin Lance dealing with loss and Oliver dealing with his secrets paid off big time as both got to come to terms with themselves!

Great job by Blackthorne capturing just the right amounts of relief, pain, anger and joy. Kudos!

I said last week that there has not been a bad Canary/ Sarah scene yet and this week was o different. Caity Lotz was incredible reconnecting with her father and showing the inner turmoil we have watched Oliver deal with for near 30 episodes. To understand her character as well as we do (at least I do) is a testament to her performance. Kudos Miss Lotz.

I was so sure Lance was going to connect the dots! XD
Seriously though, if he can connect Sarah to the masked woman and understand her reasoning for both returning and leaving, how can he not connect the hooded man to Oliver? XD

So Laurel is almost coming to a head and accepting she is a mess. Good!
I was laughing as she turned her Tommy's death, sister's "death" her dad's alcoholism, her parent's divorce and her mom leaving into something all about her pathetically!
    "Why does everyone leave me?"
Seriously Laurel, maybe it was not about you? Ya think... maybe?

Having the canary find Sarah on the flotsam was a little heavy-handed to me, but I did like seeing more of her flashbacks.

I for one am sad to see this canary fly away!

  13. Once again, amazing episode!

First off, all three of the fight scenes in this episode were freakin' awesome and so much fun to watch. They have not disappointed us in the action department this season. The third fight scene (clock tower) in particular was my favorite. I just loved how it played out and loved that Quentin was there and got in on the action. Honorable mentions to the second fight scene. I just act like a kid again when I see Black Canary and the Arrow fight at the same time. So cool.

Now on to the acting. Honestly, everyone was fantastic tonight and brought there A game. Yes, even Laurel. I felt what every character was going through. Now I'm not going to go into every single character but the scene where Quentin sees Sara for the first time after all these years was heart breaking. That scene alone just emotionally destroyed me. I also loved the scenes with Felicity and Sara. I hope they become friends in the future.

I understand why Sara had to leave but I really hope she comes back to Starling City very soon. I am already attached to her.

  14. InvestedInYourFuture7 November 2013 at 02:33

    Disappointing episode.

The fighting was nice, don't get me wrong, but that's all fluff and no substance. The show yet again failed to move forward, yet again showcased that making Sarah into fake-Canary was absolutely pointless and yet again failed to give meaning or great plotline to Laurel, even the measly "addiction plotline" barely got any attention.

Sarah Lance turned into one huge plot device, both in the past and in the present storyline. At least her past storyline makes her relatable, but her present storyline makes her border on mary sue - oh wow, how great she is at everything and how suddenly everything centers aroung her!~ Not. I still can't seem to see ANY real substantial reason on why she is back - she came and left without affecting ANYTHING in the show, except managing to steal the role and the awesome scenes Laurel should have when she gets into her Canary storyline.

Its sad to see show falter so much. The production values are easily best out of all cw shows and the fight choreography is great, but the show struggles to develop any character not named Oliver Queen, especially failing at developing female characters.

    3/5

    ReplyDelete
  15. Also, though Katie gave perhaps her best performance, Laurel still doesn't add anything to the episode. Take her out of this episode (or any, really) and nothing really would have changed. As with last season, it feels like her scenes belong on a different show.

    ReplyDelete
  16. disqus_BLvd5NQY3F7 November 2013 at 02:35

too bad sarah has to leave again...make sense because her family won't be safe.....It make sense that Quetin keep Sarah secret because it would be better long term

What will Quetin and Oilver relationship be like? when Sarah is actually alive?

    ReplyDelete
  17. I loved the clock tower too, but I had to giggle when Arrow zip-lined in, descending downward into the tallest building on the block! XD

    ReplyDelete
  18. disqus_BLvd5NQY3F7 November 2013 at 02:35

She be back eventually to help Oilver fight brother blood

    ReplyDelete
  19. At times it does feel like her scenes are shoe-horned in as if they have a minimun Laurel scrrentime per episode quota to meet! XD

    ReplyDelete
  20. Odd, personally I thought the addiction plotline got too MUCH screen time in the episode.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I agree that this was an excellent episode. The drama was right on the nose, not overdone, and the fights scenes were second to none. I love how the action scenes keep outdoing themselves each time. Bamford totally deserves an award for the great work he does week in and week out on this show.

    ReplyDelete
  22. InvestedInYourFuture7 November 2013 at 02:41

    "such an amazing character"

You must have quite a boring definition of amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Agreed.
Arguably Canary/ Sarah has had the best character development on the series for such a short span of episodes. Again, I think much of that level of connection to the audience has to do with the performance of Lotz!

They certainly chose the right actress for the part.
As inexperienced as she is, she has handled the emotional scenes brilliantly and her experience in martial arts and dance has paid off big time in the fight scenes!

    ReplyDelete
  24. InvestedInYourFuture7 November 2013 at 02:46

It was literally 5second scene. For an episode that focused on Lance family drama, the most pivotal member of that family appeared maybe for 3 minutes total, 99% of that screentime having absolutely nothing to do with what is going on and walking the hallways with Oliver.

    ReplyDelete
  25. For me it was not the length so much as the scene was even in the episode at all... I think the viewers are well aware of her issue and I do not think they need to show it in almost every scene she has.

Maybe the inserted the pill popping because minutes earlier they commented about her NOT having a drink in her hand?

I just don't think ti was needed.

    ReplyDelete
  26. InvestedInYourFuture7 November 2013 at 02:52

Take out fake-Canary out of these 5 episodes and you do not loose anything either. :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. CW does love their Katie Cassidy, as it appears that the show cast her without even auditioning her (given her poor performances to date) or chemistry testing her (given her utterly abysmal chemistry with Stephen Amell).

    ReplyDelete
  28. According to IMDB she is in the next two episodes, but IMDB is not to be trusted completely.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Sara is the real Canary. If Laurel's name was not Dinah Laurel she wouldn't be relevant to the show at all.

    ReplyDelete
  30. There must be a clause in Katie's contract. :P

    ReplyDelete
  31. Exactly.
This show is based on the DC character, but the creates its own universe as it grows. Sarah is Canary. Period.

    ReplyDelete
  32. InvestedInYourFuture7 November 2013 at 02:55

Sara is such a real Canary that it took a contrived retcon to revive her so she could appear to do absolutely nothing. SUUUUURE.

Laurel is the actual Canary because her road so far makes her DESERVING of that role.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yeah I do not understand it either.
She has yet to impress me in any role I have seen her play. Yes, she can hit the occasional scene, but most of her performances have been mediocre at best.

Nothing against her though. mediocre actors need work too! XD

    ReplyDelete
  34. I was thinking it, just did not write it! XD

    ReplyDelete
  35. is Sara leaving....

    ReplyDelete
  36. disqus_BLvd5NQY3F7 November 2013 at 03:01

maybe should stop watching the show.....because majority like Sarah

    ReplyDelete
  37. Sarah will definitely be in flashbacks to the boat. She also knows about Slade and Shado, so I suspect she will be in the bulk of this season, at least in the flashbacks.

    ReplyDelete
  38. another outstanding ep! Fantastic action scenes and nice work by Blackthorne and Lotz and nice that will help Det Lance in the long run as I figure that he will eventually know that Oliver is the Arrow (if he doesn't already.... geez Oliver, borrow BC's mask already, the lighting in the clocktower didn't really hide your face especially from 5 feet away..... lol Loved that from the ending that we'll get to know more of the deepening backstory of the lost 5 years

    ReplyDelete
  39. Other than the rescue of Oliver from the betrayal of Laurel, introduction of the League of Assassins, Oliver on the prison ship, the introduction of Professor Ivo, the re-connection of Quentin Lance to his assumed-dead daughter, and Oliver's acceptance of his past and willingness to open up to Digg.

Other than that, nothing would be missed without Canary..
Oh wait, the awesome fight scenes.

    ReplyDelete
  40. disqus_BLvd5NQY3F7 November 2013 at 03:03

    yep don't feed the hater

    ReplyDelete
  41. My first "awesome" for this show, so far. It may be just me, but I think the acting has become better this season.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think with Laurel the show is going to break her down to her lowest point before building her back up. Having her transform into the real Black Canary has to be believable. Arrow is such an incredibly well executed show that I believe the showrunners know what they are doing with Laurel's character, even if that means biding their time.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I keep thinking that! XD
I mean it is one thing when he is out at night, hidden in the shadows with his hood pulled down, but in a lit room with the hood pulled off his face?

    C'mon! XD

    ReplyDelete
  44. What road? Laurel has no identity. From the very first episode she has been adrift and clinging to others for a purpose. She's the anti-Dinah Laurel Lance, who was the very image of self assuredness and a completely self made woman and vigilante.

    ReplyDelete
  45. disqus_BLvd5NQY3F7 November 2013 at 03:06

we can just pretend that Sarah is Laurel and Laurel is Sarah

    ReplyDelete
  46. It's not just you!

There have been less hammy acting villains being campy, and the plots have concentrated on the better actors. Plus Amell has stepped up his acting as well. Part of that of course is the fact he has better chemistry with Caity Lotz than with Katie Cassidy.... and great chemistry with Paul Blackthorne!

    ReplyDelete
  47. disqus_BLvd5NQY3F7 November 2013 at 03:10

It Officer Lance......but it seem both arrow and Felicity still call him detective.....and hope he can return to that position sometime in the future

    ReplyDelete
  48. I thought Lance was going to connect the dots too!

"So, you send Felicity, your the masked woman, and your working with the arrow, and he works with Felicity, and you've been missing 5 years who knows where, sounds like....like........nevermind"

    ReplyDelete
  49. InvestedInYourFuture7 November 2013 at 03:11

Congratulations on making baseless argument-less statements.

I could write a ten paragraph long character study about Laurel lance and how most of her screentime contributes towards her road of becoming Black Canary(hell, I already did in season finale thread), but I won't, because you obviously have absolutely no arguments to disprove it.

    ReplyDelete
  50. It's a wise decision.

The longer they can hold off turning Laurel into Canary the better. That transition will change everything on the series and does not need to happen in the sophomore year.

    ReplyDelete
  51. InvestedInYourFuture7 November 2013 at 03:12

EXCEPT THAT THE SHOW WRITERS THEMSELVES STATED THAT SHE IS NOT.

    Laurel is Canary. Period.

Sarah is "beginning of Canary storyline". That's all.

    ReplyDelete
  52. InvestedInYourFuture7 November 2013 at 03:12

and if majority was always right, Twilight would be second Citizen Kane.

Also disliking aspects of the show's writing =/'= disliking the show.

    ReplyDelete
  53. no....i hope she comes back

    ReplyDelete
  54. Laurel becoming Canary or Black Canary later does not change the fact that Sarah IS Canary right now. Arguing anything otherwise is ludicrous.

    Again. Sarah is Canary.

    ReplyDelete
  55. disqus_BLvd5NQY3F7 November 2013 at 03:15

Amell and Caity seem to work better together and Caity is a better actress than Cassidy

    ReplyDelete
  56. disqus_BLvd5NQY3F7 November 2013 at 03:15

she leaving for now but she be back

    ReplyDelete
  57. Exactly.
So you sent Miss Smoak, So you know the Hood, So you are the masked woman. So the hooded man is...
    Wait for it...
    Wait for it....

    GRRRRRRR XD

    ReplyDelete
  58. Yea that would explain her being in the next two episodes. They need to expand on Oliver's flashbck on the prison ship with her.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Loved the episode! Was I the only one thinking Det. Lance's realization of Sara as BC and then immediately mentioning Felicity would tie with him coming to the conclusion that Oliver is Arrow? It was RIGHT THERE. He had the suspicion before didn't he? How does it not come up again? Lol. And the well-lit watch tower? At least Oliver did lower his head a bit when Det. Lance turned around.

All in all great episode! I was hoping they would show more Diggle & Sara scenes. From what we saw, it looks like they bonded at some point - and fairly quickly at that.. it'd be nice to see her interacting with Diggle and Felicity more.. whenever she comes back. I just like the addition of Sara overall to Team Arrow. It fits without ruining the great dynamic of Team Arrow already.

Great action as always. Glad she's not dead yet (however, she has to be at some point right? Otherwise, how would Laurel ever get there.. I just hope they prolong it as much as possible).

Interested in Dig's episode next week! Glad he's getting more screen time.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Wrong. She served as a window to more vigilantes coming out, an insight into Quentin's character, is a constant reminder of what a douche Oliver was, is an introduction the the League of Shadows, is what more more of the LOA to Starling City after Malcolm's death, is the only one who can relate to Oliver's time on the island and understands him more than almost anyone, etc,

Like her or not, these episodes would have been a lot different without her. Take out Laurel's scenes however and very little changes.

    ReplyDelete
  61. What road? What has she actually gone through to earn the title of Black Canary?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Well, I forgive him just this once because he had a lot going on with his daughter being alive and all that....but just this once :P

    ReplyDelete
  63. disqus_BLvd5NQY3F7 November 2013 at 03:20

yea Quetin show figure it out by now that Oilver is the arrow but I guess they are not ready to explore it yet or Quetin just keeping it quiet because Oilver was proven not the arrow before

    ReplyDelete
  64. Well she was forced to be an attorney on the prosecution team for the highest profile trial in Starling City history.
    The horror!

    ReplyDelete
  65. She had chemistry with Tommy, but they were too in love with forcing the Oliver/Laurel 'true love' thing to care about chemistry.

    ReplyDelete
  66. She was hardly forced, was she? I thought she said something about it being good for her career, and that giving Moira life instead of death was just a bonus.

    ReplyDelete
  67. She's also in episode 11. One of the writers said they were shooting episode 11 now and earlier Caity said on her facebook that she was shooting a scene with Stephen Amell.

    ReplyDelete
  68. She was hardly forced, was she? I thought she said something about it being good for her career, and that giving Moira life instead of death was just a bonus.

  69. InvestedInYourFuture7 November 2013 at 03:30

    Yet again:

    1. Writers themselves stated that Laurel is THE Black Canary. Sarah is just beginning of it and is NOT Black Canary.
    2. Sarah’s character has absolutely no similarities with Black Canary. Black Canary is a "Self-proclaimed" detective, who uses her martial prowess to catch known criminals and moonlights as the head of Justice League. She does not have a dark past or "guilt" - she does it because she can and she wants to. Sarah is a random guilt-ridden highly-trained killer. That's NOT Canary. Laurel's outlook towards law and criminals in S1 is nearly identical to Canary on other hand.

    3. Sarah’s behavior bears no resemblance to Black Canary. If anything,
Sarah is closer to White Canary(trained assassin who turns against her
    fellow brethren).
    3. Sarah is never ever called “Black Canary” on show.
    4. Laurel’s road is clearly leading towards being THE Black
Canary(despite writers intent on ruining the moment whwn that happens).
No IFs no MAYBEs, its a common knowledge confirmed by writing staff. Its
    not IF, its WHEN.
    5. Sarah was given that just because plot demanded it, She was revived because plot demanded it. Laurel is given clear buildup towards it. She already had a whole season of build up towards it.

    Are we clear yet?

    ReplyDelete
  70. Sarah has more similarities with Black Canary than Laurel does. Read a comic or watch any DC cartoon if you don't believe it.

Also, I wouldn't take the writers word for it that Laurel will be Black Canary. I think most of us learned not to believe everything the said when they went back on their "Arrow is not going a be a show with superpowers" decision.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I was mostly being sarcastic since Laurel made a point of saying she had no choice but to be on the team when any attorney would give their right arm to be on this case.
    *shrug*

She did try to lessen the charge of course. I will give her that.

I do not think the character is a waste or all evil. Nothing close to that. I just think they have been really heavy-handed with her arc this season and her performance is not strong enough to compensate for the writing.

    ReplyDelete
  72. disqus_BLvd5NQY3F7 November 2013 at 03:36

Don't understand why Laurel should be BC? She don't have skills to do it Sarah has training and is the perfect BC

    ReplyDelete
  73. Laurel isn't even the Black Canary in the comics anymore, is she? She was erased in the reboot and wiped from existence if I remember right. Dinah Drake Lance is Canary now. The New52 has been distancing itself a lot from the previous continuity so I wouldn't be shocked if Laurel didn't become the Canary. Even if she doesn't though, I doubt the CW will let the show get rid of her, so Laurel fans can be happy she's not going anywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Well you are clearly wrong here. That count?

I said Sarah was Canary - not Black Canary.

What Laurel becomes later, what traits the book character has, and what traits Sarah has compared to the comic book do not matter whatsoever. The show is the show and the comics are the comics.

The only Canary to appear on the show thus far is the Sarah Lance version.
    Therefore, Sarah is Canary.

I hope that clears things up for you.
By the by, how is denial this time of year? I hear it's nice!

    ReplyDelete
  75. disqus_BLvd5NQY3F7 November 2013 at 03:48

Laurel has higher chance of going into rehab/mental institution

    ReplyDelete
  76. IT just makes me laugh! XD

So Sarah is Canary only until Laurel becomes Canary, but in the meantime she is not Canary despite being the only Canary on the show because eventually there may be a different Canary?

    Seriously?

    ReplyDelete
  77. InvestedInYourFuture7 November 2013 at 03:50

The question is will there be anything left for her when it happens. And will this arguably INCREDIBLY impatient and biased fanbase be ready to accept her for who she is by then?

We already seen how it goes on cw shows. And right now sadly Laurel is poised to go somewhere in between Lana "never got interesting" Lang and Elena "too little, too late" Gilbert.

    ReplyDelete
  78. InvestedInYourFuture7 November 2013 at 03:52

You are the one to talk about denial. Considering I am quite sure shipping is influencing your bias, but oh well.; Please stop flamebaiting, that's not working.

And nope. Sarah being "Canary" does not magically not make Laurel NOT BLack Canary. She might be just on the way towards it, but that does not change it that Sarah is but a fake-Canary.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Why should we be happy? There's no point have Laurel and don't make her the Black Canary. If this is not her journey, it's better if they kill her or make her leave the show.

    ReplyDelete
  80. InvestedInYourFuture7 November 2013 at 03:53

I have been one of biggest Black Canary fans for years. As I said in the post above:

"Black Canary is a "Self-proclaimed" detective, who uses her martial prowess to catch known criminals and moonlights as the head of Justice League(and couple of other organizations). She does not have a dark pastor "guilt" - she does it because she can and she wants to. Sarah is a random guilt-ridden highly-trained killer. That's NOT Canary. Laurel's outlook towards law and criminals in S1 is nearly identical to Canary on
    other hand."

    ReplyDelete
  81. I wanted the Canary arc to last a little longer, I was really enjoying their joint action sequences and speaking of they were amaze-balls in tonight's episode very well done I love how Detective Lance held his own-sorta-against LOA. And I really wanna see more of the flashbacks the teasing is insufferable. And poor Laurel she's really come undone but my focus was really trying to figure out what more Moira could possibly be hiding good episode

    ReplyDelete
  82. InvestedInYourFuture7 November 2013 at 03:56

What you are describing is a plot device, since she is not crucial to any of those scenes, but is there for the sake of them happening:

"betrayal of Laurel" is hilariously biased way to word it considering Oliver was bassically stalking her by that point. And that storyline could have been solved with a single smoke bomb. The fact that Oliver turned inept the moment the show needed Sarah, only cements Sarah as mary sue.

League Of Assassins Was ALREADY introduced with Malcolm Merlyn. They could have as well went after Olliver for killing him. Sarah is not needed. Flashback Sarah is not crucial - she could be replaced with Shado and NOTHING would be lost in that storyline. Quentin's story was handled last year with Laurel's mother already, it a pointless retread. Oliver's openness and acceptance has no need of Sarah.

So yeah, unless you are INCREDIBLY biased, Sarah served nothing but a plot device, since plot devices are interchangeable.

    - More vigilante window was already opened up by Roy.
    - Quentin's character got fully explored already with sarah storyline last season.
    - League of Shadows could have went after Oliver for Merlyn's death instead. Sarah is not detrimental to that.
    - Huntress already could relate to Oliver's time and understand him, so its a pointless retread of that storyline.

The episodes would have been identical. Except the eventual Laurel as Canary plot would pack a whole lot more punch AND I would not need to up my suspension of disbelief because of Sarah's survival retcon.

    ReplyDelete
  84. They knew we would be sad when she left, so they brought back Deadshot. lol Thanks writers. But i miss Sarah already.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Check my posts. I never once said Laurel will not be Black Canary or Canary.

I hate shipping and do not ship characters or pairs of characters. I am one of the least shipp-y people on this site. You are so far off base in that attack it is laughable! XD.

I do not understand how you cannot see that even assuming Laurel does become Canary or Black Canary later does not change the fact Sarah is Canary now. You seem intelligent, but blinded by some passion.. for the comics maybe?

What you call fake-Canary is just Canary.
But again... That does not mean Laurel will not be Canary later.
The two are not mutually exclusive. I cannot be more clear.

Sarah is guilt-ridden killer-assassin running from her past.
Black Canary is law-centered a bit light-hearted heroine hellbent on catching criminals who managed to escape the law. No guilt involved in this.

They have absolutely NOTHING in common.

  87. InvestedInYourFuture7 November 2013 at 04:08

Sarah is as much of Canary as Yao Fei is Green Arrow. And Yao Fei is NOT Green Arrow.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I love your passion!
Seriously though, the comics are not the TV series.

The show can tweak and twist the comic book source material however they want to achieve their desires. They create their own universe and it is not the DC universe of any of the various Canary incarnations.

I have been going through this with Game of Thrones fans for 3 years now. If the show does not mention or introduce a character from the books, that character does not exist in the TV show. If the show says that some character in the books is someone's uncle instead of second cousin, then that character is the uncle. If a character in the books had blue hair, but has brown hair on the TV series, well, he has brown hair not blue. The books are not the TV series.

What the TV series introduces and does is the only thing that matters on the TV series.

Adhering to the source material is pointless since none of that matters to someone who only knows the universe on the TV series.

The TV series is creating their own world on Arrow - They are not re-writing the comic books. You still have those comics to love, but they are not the TV series.

  89. Or I don't think that Sara has to be a lesser character in order to build up Laurel.

    ReplyDelete
  90. InvestedInYourFuture7 November 2013 at 04:33

Sadly she is barely even a character. And an unneeded one at that.

    ReplyDelete
  91. The only bias I see is yours calling any character's story you do not like a plot device, but Laurel's story - Even the story that has not been written for her - is integral to the series.

All of the writers' choices have been right so far in my opinion.
    - LoA would not be coming to reclaim or kill Merlyn seeing as he is already dead.
    - Oliver may have been able to relate to the Huntress, but it is nothing compared to how he relates to Sarah. They have many more connections.
    - Shado cannot replace Sarah because of his relationship to Sarah before the island and his relationship to Sarah's family who he sees in every episode.
    - Having your estranged wife (who is very much alive by the way) visit is not the same as reuniting with your assumed dead daughter.
    - Oliver can see himself in Sarah much, much more than in any other character on the show. Sarah may not be NEEDED for his self-acceptance, but it if much more powerful with her.

All of the changes you desire are less meaningful if Sarah were to be written out and replaced with some other person.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I think your pro-Laurel stance is coloring every thing you have said on this thread. I think there is room on the show for both and no, I do not think that the TV show has to follow the comic at all.

    ReplyDelete
  93. This.
    Exactly this!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Yep. One of his/her posts accused someone that liked Sarah and dislikrd Laurel of being a biased shipper.

And last episode he/she called me sexist because I don't like Laurel. lol

    ReplyDelete
  95. The ironic thing is that the Laurel in the show is nothing like the one in the comics. I'd probably like her if that was the case.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Consider yourself in good company because she has accused most genre shows of the same thing.

In this case it feels like someone being overly protective of their favorite character. I get that. There are characters that I really identify with or whom I really admire and I might get defensive for them if I felt like another character was taking away their spotlight. I just disagree in this case that you can't have both be equally important. Sara is a character who seems to have clicked very quickly in the fandom. She's easy to like and she brings in great action scenes combined with heartfelt emotional connections with other characters. That's a combo of good writing and good acting. Laurel's character has suffered mostly in the writing component but also at times in the acting. Once they fix the writing, I think Laurel and Sara could be equals and quite frankly I would love to see Sara train Laurel in combat. Someone I was talking with (probably on this site although I can't remember who - sorry in advance) brought up how awkward it would be if Oliver trained Laurel. I want to avoid that and having Sara in the picture, hopefully for a long time, makes a natural bridge between who Laurel is right now and the skills she will need to be Black Canary in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Definitely there was a great fit of role and actor here. Caity Lotz was indeed a great find. I generally get nervous about CW casting, but Lotz has been beyond my hopes and expectations. I really hope that she comes back for an extended stay because I think the show is richer with her. I also think it showcases how well the writers can develop someone if they really want to. This combined with fixing Thea last season gives me great hope for where they may go with Laurel.

    ReplyDelete
  98. As if this show could get any better! Damn! Great fight scenes, loved Sara's reunion with her father. Just plain loved everything. The writers of this show should be commended. They have truly crafted a season of epic T.V. without falling into the cliches that many shows of this nature fall into (looking at you AoS ;) Tied with last week for me as best episode of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Man, you must have a hard-on for Laurel, because the depth of your hatred for this new iteration of BC borders on manic. Most people love this new version of the BC. If you hate it so much, why torture yourself by watching the show, then coming to a forum to rage about it? Makes no sense to me. Plenty of other great shows on T.V. man. Find one.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Your a vast minority opinion my friend. Too bad. Your hatred of this BC is causing you to miss out on some damn fine T.V. And spare me the 'if the majority agreed blah blah blah' quote please.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Show writers can change their mind. That's how writing works. In the writing of books, we call it "editing". Get over it man.

    ReplyDelete
  102. This Invested guy is hilarious. The fanboy is strong with this one. Kudos to you DarqueMode for having the patience to at least try to reason with him. Your stronger than most.

maybe they need build Roy Harper to be closer to his alter ego Speedy/Red Arrow it a slow process

    ReplyDelete
  104. I'd rather have Slade train her. Think about it: Slade comes to town knowing Oliver is the Arrow and knowing Oliver's feelings about Laurel decides to train Laurel who is seeking to get stronger. In addition to physically training her, he can also be subtly trying to change her outlook and morality. That would be awesome.

It'd be a great way to keep Laurel relevant.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I would be good with that scenario as well. Anyone but Oliver would do. Quite frankly I want a flash back with Slade soon so that I can see how he's doing. I'm worried about him,

    ReplyDelete
  106. That's something I've never understood: the need of some people to bash a character in order to defend another. I'm one of that rare fans that likes Laurel, even with the lack of good stories and the bad writting. But as you, I think that Sara will be what she needs to become a great character. I love the idea of Sarah helping her becoming BC.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Black Canary > Huntress > Arrow

    ReplyDelete
  108. I love that Oliver's little team is growing, he chooses his allies very well. It was fun to see Felicity, Diggle, Sarah, and Oliver together...

...I thought for sure that Quentin would have figured it out that Oliver is Green Arrow. His face expression at the bar when he figured out Sarah was in league with the Green Arrow looked as if he figured it out, my reaction went from "yes he knows! it's about time he put it together, he would be a great asset" to "oh he didn't figure it out, lame" haha

    ReplyDelete
  109. We need to keep Sara. Caity Lotz is pretty damn awesome as Black Canary. And her chemistry with Stephen Amell and the rest of Team Arrow is off the charts. More Sara and Team Arrow scenes please.

    ReplyDelete
  110. disqus_BLvd5NQY3F7 November 2013 at 07:18

LOA will return eventually since they know Oilver alter ego and will go after him......think Moira has some connection to LOA?

    ReplyDelete
  111. I think part of the reason why I felt that the motivations of some characters weren't quite believable in Season 1 may have been due to the fact that their acting wasn't always top-notch. However, Stephen Amell -- in particular -- really has become quite a good actor this season and that, in turn, has really stepped up my enjoyment of the show. This has been the third straight episode that I have really really liked.

    ReplyDelete
  112. I agree with you about BC, but I think it wouldn't have been possible without Olivers background we have already seen.
I imagine Slade would have been as epic as her if he would have been introduced in both the flashbacks and in the current time.

Oliver was 'cleared' as arrow in the beginning of season 1 when Diggle pretended to be the hood.
Quintin can't just forget about that, once ppl are stuck in one view it's hard for them to change that (even if it is so obvious for the viewers :)

Btw, isn't Deadshot part of the league of assassins? I thought Dig would have had something to say (or just mentioned) about that towards Sarah, but maybe I am totally wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Good point about Lance's mindset having been proved wrong once already, he may be a bit gun shy in thinking Oliver is the Hood.

On Smallville Deadshot was part of that other group... um... Suicide Squad?

I'm not a comic book reader so not sure about Deadshot's affiliations in the comic books.

    ReplyDelete
  114. I would have given an awesome, but the whole "the ex-girlfriend of the son of the defendant is now prosecuting her" thing was way too much to shallow. It was hard enough to see Quentin investigate the Queens all the time, but this is getting ridiculous. Also, the writers have to learn that it is hard to care about Laurel's plight when her sister went through hell trice over. Plus: How often do they want to repeat why Laurel is so down? We know it. Unless it turns out that she has actually PTSD after staring down a gun barrel while the trigger was pulled, there is no need to linger on the reasons again and again.

    ReplyDelete
  115. If there had never been a comic book version of Black Canary and this were therefore an original story, you could just as well make the exact opposite argument, couldn't you? Based soley on what has happened in this show so far, it's actually Laurel who has been the plot device. Which is, of course, the reason you're so hopping ma. You're a comic book dogmatist. If the comic book didn't exist, you would know be rejoicing because of the fact that we have a new kickass female character.

    ReplyDelete
  116. neither am I, a quick google search gave me nothing (other then batman's deadshot which is part of the suicide squad).

    ReplyDelete
  117. Good episode, not as good as last week, but still good.

I hope Sara returns soon.. I want to see more of her and more of her and Quentin together. I'm glad Quentin accepted her, despite her being a killer now. I wish she could free herself off the league somehow.

The villain of the week was too monotonous, I'm glad they offed him.
Sara must have gone through hell in her first year on that boat to treat Ollie that way. She is right, he sure didn't have luck with his friends during those five years. I wonder how he'll eventually manage to get through to her.

    ReplyDelete
  118. I hope she returns to help Laurel. That could also might help Laurel become more likeable and would give Sara a good enough reason to return despite the risk.

    ReplyDelete
  119. We'll still see her next week in the flashbacks.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I think Quentin knows about Oliver, but decides to play the game and keep his secret.

    ReplyDelete
  121. She is still in the flashbacks next week and will hopefully return to the present.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Could that be because the writers themselves have, as yet, only a vague idea where they're going with her character and they truly do just need to keep her around until they do? .

    ReplyDelete
  123. Is it just my imagination or are the flashbacks less drawn-out and more to-the-point than last season?

    ReplyDelete
  124. I don't know why so many people downvoted you when you made a very good point about the CW viewers. I never understood why people hated Lana SO much. I'll admit Smallville got better after she left, but I don't think it was mainly down to that.

    ReplyDelete
  125. omg i never connected the dots about the canary hahaha I thought it was a random bird that implied she was near some land lol

    ReplyDelete
  126. i'm having more fun than i should with all this conversation lol

    ReplyDelete
  127. how is Sara pining after Oliver? i failed to see that o.O

    ReplyDelete
  128. i'm choosing to believe that too!

    ReplyDelete
  129. Loved the episode with the exception of Lauren self-pity and drawning her sarrows with pills!!! Her character is terrible!!! Love Lance this season :)

    ReplyDelete
  130. Agree...and really, they speech they gave her? As if Sara WANTED to go down with the Gambit, as if her father becoming an alcoholic was all about her and not about his grief, as if her mother left because Laurel did something wrong and the kicker was Tommy. He didn't "leave" he died because for her! Asking if something is wrong with her because Tommy dared to die...what the hell are the writers thinking? Do they want us to hate the character?

    ReplyDelete
  131. It is only a lessen of the charge if she believes that Moira actually deserves live in prison.

    ReplyDelete
  132. In a way....there is. She is a regular, which means that she is entitled to appear in a certain number of episodes (I am not sure what the ratio for Arrow is...for White Collar it was 10 episodes out of 16).

    ReplyDelete
  133. lol...you know, after all your complaining that people should give Laurel a chance, it is quite ironic that you now rip into Sara even worse.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Do you have any idea of how much of an asshole do you sound like in every comment you make? Get a grip and show peoploe and their opinions some fucking respect or leave. I would love to see you banned from this website, you're annoying, no wonder why you have freaking 16 downvotes. GTFO, you're not worthy of being part of such a cool community like Spoiler TV.

    ReplyDelete
  135. I agree. I think that's why I am not frustrated with them. They are actually moving the story along instead of stopping the momentum cold.

    ReplyDelete
  136. I think Stephen has been the most improved actor as well. The pilot was particularly rough but after the midseason hiatus I had already seen marked improvement. So much so that I wondered if he worked with someone during his break. By the finale, I knew we didn't have to worry about his acting anymore. Arrow has been very good for him.

    ReplyDelete
  137. You really are unlikable anywhere lol

    ReplyDelete
  138. I don't think that it is impatient to expect a full fledged, fully integrated character after a full season. After 25 episodes you would expect that the scenes with her stop feeling tacked on.

    ReplyDelete
  139. I'm with InvestedInYourFuture on this one.

We have had several emotional scenes, especially with Sara and her father. Yet I still don't like Caity Lotz's perpetual pout/duck face when she hasn't her mask on. But I also aknowledge that her character/story arc are strong enough by themselves.

And I could point many similar comments in every places online where the show is discussed.

Great character but the actress fails to deliver her lines with the drama that is required.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I'm feeling so disconnected from the Moire storyline. The show has shifted so much and has been going through so much that whenever Moira comes up I'm reminded that "oh, right, she still exists".

Ugh at Laurel always making everything about her. In season 1 I started skipping all of her scenes and did NOT miss anything in the episode, it didn't ruin the storytelling in any way. I wonder if I do that now in season 2 I will still be good to go.

The fight scenes were AWESOME and I really love Sarah/Canary. I really wish she could stay. She fit so well with the Arrow Team and had such a nice rapport with both Diggle and Felicity. I expected her storyarc to be longer.

Arrow is really stepping up the game this season. I'm surprised.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Perhaps they were just throwing her in for now to see how the audience reacts to her...and if the reaction is positive, they might consider to built up on it.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Well this episode was great but not awesome like last week I'd say. In fact, it's the first time I'm a little disappointed with Arrow. Oh it's not much, I was just bothered that they reused almost the exact same scene from last episode. I feel like it's a little too easy.

    ReplyDelete
  143. I was so wainting for the same thing!! Seriously it's starting to get old that he's supposed to be clueless about Oliver. He's cop for god's sake! and has been standing only a few feet next to Oliver everytime he saw him. They can't keep him in the dark much longer!

    ReplyDelete
  144. Honestly, I hope that at one point Oliver is forced to real himself, and the only reaction is "yeah, yeah, I know, do you think I am stupid?"

    ReplyDelete
  145. that would be awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  146. Maybe?
I understand sometimes secondary characters that need to stick around are harder to write for because they tend to be reactive. They need to fit in with other characters with pro-active plots Sometimes those pairings work and other times they do not and feel shoe-horned in.

However, Laurel is arguably not a secondary character. It shocks me they have such issues writing seasonal arcs for her.

    ReplyDelete
  147. I'm betting she'll be back in the present for the mid-season finale. I'm sure they'll have her pop in and out of Starling City for the rest of the season and hopefully she'll become a series regular in S3

    ReplyDelete
  148. David Fischer - You are correct, current Black Canary is Dinah Drake Lance and she's married to a Kurt (not Larry) Lance (waiting on #25 or #26 to find out if he's alive/alive).

    ReplyDelete
  149. Thanks. Well now Laurel fans don't even have the "she's in the comics!" defense anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  150. This amazing episode may well be my favorite on the series so far.

Fantastic fight scenes, all 3 of them. Editing/direction/choreography were flawless, snd I loved how characters used random objects as weapons. Gives me Buffy/Alias flashbacks.

Paul Blackthorne BROUGHT IT this week, the Quentin/Sara scenes were beautiful if somber. So many different emotions, it's incredible. Caity Lotz is a good actress too, apart from her stunning athleticism and fight skills.

Enjoyed seeing Sara meet Digg and Felicity. I totally want to see Felicity fangirl over how awesome she is.

    ReplyDelete
  151. That's a good point. Last season I eventually started to FF past the flashbacks because I was bored to death. Frankly, I still don't think they're needed in every single episode.

    ReplyDelete
  152. I hate to snark, but a die-hard Laurel fan calling ANOTHER character "Mary Sue" just about slays me. Sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  153. I'm sure a lot of people would like her opposed to her being so disliked. Sarah is proof they can do well so what the heck is going on with Laurel?

    ReplyDelete
  154. She actually does that in every fandom I'm unfortunate to be in with her.

    ReplyDelete
  155. While romance doesn't interest me much on this kind of show, I agree that Laurel and Tommy had far better chemistry. She even had a few fun, coquettish (sp?) moments while with him, a welcome change from her normal mode: shrill, dour & frowny.

    ReplyDelete
  156. She can't because she does the same thing with EVERY show she watches.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Mark David Green7 November 2013 at 23:17

    A few things..

    1) Did the clocktower remind anyone else of Smallville?
    2) Who else is excited that Paul Blackthorne finally got a TV role that didn't get cancelled or not picked up at all?

    ReplyDelete
  158. I love how everyone keeps asking Laurel if she is okay but just allows her to continue spiraling down to her inevitable death... it's like after they ask her if she's okay and they walk off they can look back when she does eventually hit rock bottom and be like "well we asked her if she was okay"...

    ReplyDelete
  159. Yes, and the argument "it takes time to develop a character, Laurel haters are impatient" argument doesn't work because nearly every OTHER character on the show has been properly developed in the same amount of time, therefore being liked by fans. Laurel is simply a major writing fail. Other than Thea, she's the only one who contributes zero to the plot and could be seamlessly removed from the show.

    ReplyDelete
  160. I hope she stopped by the hospital to say goodbye to Sin...

    ReplyDelete
  161. I think Quentin should really get his eyesight checked. Two weeks ago (the Dollmaker ep), Oliver was walking RIGHT NEXT TO HIM in the hood and Quentin couldn't tell it was him. I don't care that it was dark and Oliver was wearing eye-paint and using a voice scrambler (or whatever it's called) - when you're standing that close to someone you see frequently, you're going to recognize them, period. The show is requiring some major suspension of disbelief with that one.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Agreed. It's not romantic, at least not necessarily (and god knows I don't want them to pair up Oliver and Sara!), but Amell and Lotz definitely have chemistry. You feel the emotion in their scenes together. With Amell and Cassidy, you feel nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Somewhere between StarLING City, the "green" being dropped from "Green Arrow", Dinah Laurel Lance using her middle name and being a lawyer, the lack of superpowers (at least until The Flash shows up - and he's supposed to be an unusual occurrence), Oliver's mother being alive, Oliver having a sister, Felicity Smoak having nothing to do with her comic namesake (wasn't she older and with a son? Was she a computer genius?), China White neither being referred to by that name nor wearing a white jumpsuit, and a thousand other things that people who have actually read Green Arrow comics (I haven't) can point to, I think it's pretty clear by now that Arrow is loosely BASED on the GA comics. It's not a televised carbon-copy. The writers are making various changes as they see fit - going with what fits THEIR storyline and vision, as well they should.

If Sara as Canary works on the show, then it works and they're free to stick it, no matter how much it strays from the comics. And while she may have a dark past that the comic BC does not, Sara IS fighting crime. Ever since she came to Starling City, she's been fighting criminals, such as would-be rapists and the gang that fought Roy in the season premiere. She also helped the Arrow escape the DA's office. So regardless of her past, she's doing what BC is supposed to do, and she has the actual skills to do it given her history - Laurel does not.

Given your obsessive pro-Laurel, anti-Sara comments all over this page, it's clear that you're too myopic to consider anything about this storyline objectively.

    ReplyDelete
  164. you are all anti-femist in this forum Oliver is a cheater and none of the girls deserve a person like that, so why does everybody want him with Felicity. Also I do not understand the Laurel hate, she is the way she is because of what Oliver did to her as well as Sara, she is no saint, I wish for Laurel to hate her for what she did to her so I hope she does come back

    ReplyDelete
  165. If my sister did what she did I would never speak to her again.

    ReplyDelete
  166. If Laurel must stay, I think they should just forget about giving her the BC moniker and instead have her be Team Arrow's legal connection. Her job allows her to pull strings and find out information which could come in handy. Making her BC is just going to make fans resent her even more, in my opinion, because it means throwing an awesome character (BC Sara) under the bus for the sake of staying faithful to the comics.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Plus my fav people are Oliver, Laurel, Roy and Felicity everyone else suck, and Moira deserves everything she gets, so good on Laurel for taking the case

    ReplyDelete
  168. I agree, she fits well with Team Arrow. I liked her interaction with Digg and Felicity, and I hope she gets more scenes with Felicity in particular because we could use a female friendship on this show (plus, the Bechdel element). It would be fun if Felicity sorts of fangirls over how awesome Sara is!

    ReplyDelete
  169. Yeah, how many times now has the "conflict of interest" thing come up? It's too unbelievable that it never prevents the Lances from investigating, prosecuting, whatever the Queens over and over again.

Clearly, they're struggling to keep Laurel relevant. Sigh. She simply isn't.

    ReplyDelete
  170. I like Thea and I think that she is an important puzzle piece of the plot. The good thing with her (and Roy) though is that the writers don't forcefully try to tell their story every single episode but allow them to blend in the background when they are not needed. I am looking forward to the point though when they are more involved.

    ReplyDelete
  171. I agree that putting Thea and Roy on the back burner when they're not needed is wise, and doesn't detract from their characters - however, I still don't see the *general* need for Thea's character in the show. She's Oliver's sister, Moira's daughter and Roy's girlfriend, yes, but in and of herself she doesn't have much of a storyline that adds to the show. Roy does, she doesn't. Ultimately the show is about Team Arrow battling the various baddies of Starling City, and she isn't going to fit into that any time soon. At best, she allows us some insight into Oliver's state of mind when they interact, but there isn't enough of that to justify her presence in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Sure, you could do the show without her, but I think it would miss an important perspective. Thea is Oliver's family, in a way she is closer to him than anyone else because they grew up together. Adding a family in general and especially her made Oliver more human than the usual Superheroes, imho. And I admit, my secret hope is that at one point down the line (way down....not before the fifth season, if the show is around for so long), she might take care of the company, freeing up Oliver more. Considering that she is already collecting first management experiences, this might even happen.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Maybe I liked last week's slightly more but I still loved it. This is officially one of my favorite shows now. I was really sad to see Sarah go though. So much potential there, both as Sarah and as Black Canary. Please let her come back, I really don't want that to be over. Especially with Laurel not knowing yet... Speaking of which, the Quentin-Sarah scenes were amazing, they really brought it home there. Moira being won over by her children was also good, and Team Arrow awesomeness never disappoints! Also loved the flashbacks focused on Sarah. She probably had it even worse than Oliver did. Glad that Oliver is now sharing with Diggle what happened back then.
