Supernatural 9.04 "Slumber Party" Review: There's No Place Like Home

30 Oct 2013

This week’s Supernatural episode “Slumber Party,” was written by Robbie Thompson and directed by Robert Singer. It was another memorable episode as the series paid homage to The Wizard of Oz. A very, very twisted Wizard of Oz, of course, but this wouldn’t be Supernatural if they didn’t make us re-think what we thought we knew!

The episode also features the return of fan-favorite (well, this fan, in particular!) Felicia Day as Charlie. We get to see a lot more of the Men of Letters bunker in the episode, so I’d be remiss in not including a shout out to Jerry Wanek (Production Designer) and his amazing crew. I loved Sam’s (Jared Padalecki) room, the kitchen – loved Dean’s (Jensen Ackles) dismay over it being dirty when he’d just cleaned it, the lab, the computer room, and, of course, the garage – even baby has a home now! There was a lot to like in tonight’s episode, but it won’t go down as my favorite episode.

First, what I really liked about tonight’s episode. Robert Singer’s direction is once again the perfect choice for this episode as he handled the direction of season four’s episode “Monster Movie” which was entirely filmed in black and white. We start out in black and white and switch back in forth throughout the episode. Having the past in black and white was a great choice. It was a great shout out to The Wizard of Oz movie which starts out in black and white and only turns to color when Dorothy lands in Oz. In this case, all of the present is seen in color, which is a nice reflection that the Supernatural world is actually Oz to the audience. I also really liked the parallel of Dean and Sam’s first entry to the bunker and the agents’ in 1935. There are some excellent transitions between past and present too. I would also be remiss in not giving a shout out to the VFX team lead by Mark Meloche, Grant Lindsay, Ryan Curtis, and Adam Williams. There were a lot of effects in tonight’s show from the glowing green eyes to fireballs to flying monkeys. Truth be told, I was a little disappointed by the flying monkeys, but with so many other effects in this episode, I’m willing to let that one go.

The other thing that I really liked about this episode was how it carried the theme of home throughout the episode. The theme of home and the desire for adventure are at the very heart of the Wizard of Oz story. The theme of home and the fact that Dorothy (at least in the book/movie) is also from Kansas – so she has the same home as Dean and Sam - have always linked it to Supernatural for me. Dean has clearly settled in, even getting baby her own room by the end of the episode. I was really disappointed that we didn’t get to see Dean’s reaction to that garage and the treasures in it though! Sam, on the other hand, tells Dean that he never had the childhood home that Dean remembers and all his subsequent homes (think Jess and Amelia) have ended badly. At the end of the day, while it’s sad that Sam is afraid to trust in a home, the bunker gives what Sam needs to be happy, so it really is a home. I think it will be a telling moment when (if) he finally acknowledges that – and it will also make Dean ridiculously happy.

There’s a nice parallel between the shiny faced, adventure seeking young agent and his desire for adventure and the cynical agent (who drinks from a flask!) in the past and Charlie and Dean and Sam in the present. Both die in the episode, but luckily for Charlie, Dean had an angel at his disposal. I’m getting a bit tired of them throwing these impossible decisions at Dean’s feet so he keeps having to dig the hole deeper. At least the scene with Zeke helped to clarify that he’s only at half strength and every time Dean asks him to heal someone, it weakens him and means he will have to stay in Sam longer. Zeke certainly seemed sincere in this episode, but why wouldn’t he have swiped Sam’s memory of Dean saying Zeke?

Charlie discusses her desire for a quest with Sam. She grew up with Tolkein, and let’s not forget her larping hobby. I have a feeling that even though she finds her quest and magic in going off to Oz with Dorothy, she’ll be back. The scene with Sam is also a nice reiteration of the boys own quest: hunting things, saving people, the family business. As always, I loved what Charlie could bring to the episode. Her geeking out over the old computer. Her joy at finally getting a quest with magic. She brings out the brotherly side of Dean, yet is also an asset to the team, and even saves Dean’s life. And she keeps Dean honest – she calls him on trying to bullshit a bullshitter and bringing her back from the dead. Luckily for Dean, she takes a rain-check on her explanation.

Fan response to Dorothy (Tiio Horn) seems to be mixed, but I loved her. A strong, kick-ass woman hunter. I loved the clues that L. Frank Baum (author of The Wizard of Oz series of books that the movie was based on and that were very different from the movie) was her father. I’m happy to say that I’m enough of a geek to have gotten the reference in the first scene when the agent refers to her father Frank. I loved her sitting with the men of letters and telling them about all the things she’d done to the witch. And then making a point that “her lady parts” didn’t prevent her from being a kick-ass hunter – yes! She shared Dean’s love of the open road, and Sam’s disdain for home. I think she’ll make a good partner for Charlie – the brawn to her brains. Another great scene was her explaining to Charlie that Charlie had died, and telling her you’re not a hunter until you’ve died. Don’t we know it!

I loved Sam’s discomfort when they find out that Becky is the one who’s uploaded all the unpublished works of Carver Edlund. It was a nice shout out to Becky after her less than stellar treatment in season seven’s “Time for a Wedding” episode. I wonder if this means we may see her or Edlund (Rob Benedict) again? Please bring back Chuck! I loved the parallel between the books – revisionist history as Dorothy says. But Charlie points out that Baum had written the books as a guidebook – we already know that there are clues in the Edlund books – and it’s Becky that tells them where to find the colt based on the books in season five’s “The Real Ghostbusters.” Dorothy also tells Charlie that there’s a big difference between fiction and life: “sometimes your life is darker than fiction.”

Also loved the scenes with Crowley (Mark Sheppard) – I can never get enough of his snark. However, I wonder how long we are going to have to wait to see if there really is something different about him – that he was truly affected by the trials. I really hope they don’t spin that out too long.

Things I did not like about this episode. We don’t actually get to see what Dean said to Cas (Misha Collins) to get him out of the bunker. I’m going to somewhat remove my displeasure over that in the hopes that we will eventually get that scene or at least a fuller version of that conversation related to us. And how long can it be before Sam puts all the inconsistencies together and figure out that Dean is lying?

Other issues with the episode? How did the witch get out of that cocoon with no help when Dorothy had to be cut out and was incapacitated. And really? The witch in general was my very least favorite part of this episode. Even in the movie, the witch gave me nightmares – she was scary! This witch was not scary – she just looked like a caricature of what a witch should be who had drunk a bunch of black paint. That’s not to say that Maya Massar didn’t do a good job. For one thing, I never saw her tongue in the whole episode... She had to convey everything without being able to speak and that’s never easy, but despite all the powers that the witch had, she just came off as ridiculous to me. She was the typical old crone witch that is such a stereotype and that Supernatural had never resorted to up until this episode. As a big fan of the movie, I was very, very disappointed by the shoes and the flying monkeys as well.

One thing both delighted and disappointed me. Before the episode aired, Padalecki tweeted a special title card that contained a wonderful shout out to the fans – just as the movie used to every year when it aired on tv: “This is for the SPNFamily whose dedication and love drive us to continue creating this wonderful world. Keeping up the Family Business.” Combined with the shout out to Becky, it once again demonstrates the unique relationship the show has with its fans. However, the title card didn’t air with the show – no doubt due to clearance issues. Sam’s final thoughts to Dorothy about having a book written about them are telling. Sam tells her that “at the end of the day, it’s our story, so we get to write it.” It seems clear that Sam is speaking for the writers – this is their story, and we as readers are along for the ride.

What did you think of the episode? Do you think we’ll see Charlie again? Were you as happy as I was with the final musical selection of AC/DC’s “For Those About to Rock”? Also quick shout out for loving them watching Game of Thrones and Charlie’s final “Ding dong, bitches!” How long do you think it will be before Sam calls Dean on his bullshit? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

I think the review sums up how I feel about it -- some great parts, some perhaps a little too much thrown at once at me. There is such a rich history with the Wizard of Oz that I think it ultimately was a tough episode to write. It's kind of like two really heavy background stories thrown at each other and ultimately feeling one good story was struggling to break free. Maybe if the whole idea of Oz was somehow introduced over a couple of episodes this episode could have focused more on the actual story at the time and not the background. I honestly think it was just too much at once given the lore associated with SPN and with the Wizard of Oz.

  2. I liked the shout out to GoT, I liked Crowley (good as always) but overall I did not like the episode and thought it was weak. For me the Wizard of Oz plot did not work. I really thought that the plot and the dialogue were, for the most part, clunky and awkward. I am quite happy to forget this episode ever happened and hope that next weeks is back on track.

  3. Agreed. I think the fact that fandom made this connection almost at the outset just set the bar too high (I actually re-posted an Oz fanfic I'd written in 2008 this week). I didn't love the episode, but I liked it better the 2nd time I watched it.

  4. Yep. There was some good dialogue - mostly Crowley. According to Felicia Day's live-tweeting last night, there were at least a few good lines that got cut too. I'm not sure the scenes for next week look to great. I'm really feeling like Carver is struggling more with the MotW episodes than the mytharc ones - though this epi really does throw in quite a bit of mythology too...

  5. I would be more than happy if Charlie NEVER comes back from Oz. I do like Day, but not this character, she shows up and has to save the day for the guys. The writers dumb down the guys to make her looks SO MUCH SMARTER..ugh

I liked Baby getting her place in the bunker, hated her outside where all the bad guys could see her. I liked seeing the rest of the bunker, but my favorite parts were Crowley telling what the witch has said..so funny.

Enjoyed Zeke telling Dean he was having problems healing Sam when he kept having to bring people back from the dead.. Was hoping Dean would just let Charlie die. So he chose her instead of Sam. Thought he said he would always pick Sam. He picked Sam over Cas, but NOT Charlie? This is not going to turn out well. ;)

  6. But for me it was better than Bitten, but not by much. LOL At least the boys were in this one more.

  7. No doubt I am a curmudgeon, but I just did not care for this episode. your "what I liked about this episode" section does a good job--insofar as it is possible--to make a silk purse out of this . . . well, sow's ear is perhaps a bit harsh, so let's go with burlap sack.
I had lots of problems with this episode, including major ones such as the whole escaping witch thing and hallowe'en costume look they gave her. I did not find that, generally, the dialogue rang particularly true, barring occasional nice moments such as Sam's Becky-fluster, and that's probably mor e amatter of Jared's delivery than anything else. Charlie wanting a magic quest for real . . . possible, I suppose, given she got to make out with a fairy last time we saw her, but I didn't really buy it. Dorothy . . . well, to me she was just a by-the-numbers iteration of the popular tough chick type, with nothing much to distinguish her. Dean faced with yet ANOTHER hobson's choice . . . can you see my eyes rolling? another death/resurrection--second episode in a row. Sheesh.
Fundamentally, though, I just didn't buy into the whole Oz thing. For one thing, if you're goig to make the case that the BOOKS are the guides, laced with clues, then you might want to actually read them, Then you'd know that the shoes in the book aren't ruby slippers but silver ones (yes , I get that the "real" Oz is not like the book version, allowing for all kins of playnig with that material, but presumably any actualCcLUE from the BOOKS should be, you know, something that actually IS in the book).more significantly, poppy bullets and stiletto stilettoes just seemed to me to be a stretch too far. I know, fantasy; I know, tongue in cheek. Still, they just seemed to me to be conventient plot devices, rather than plausible readings of clues from the books. What exactly in the books, for instance, would suggest that the stilettoes could be used as knives to kill the witch? That's a pretty tangential inference.
And finally, I just don't buy Oz, as opposed to any number of other fantasy worlds, as being "real." To me there's a big difference between the Carver Edlund books in the SPN universe being "fiction" that is actually disguised fact, and actual fantasy fiction from our world also being disguised fact. It's an inherently absurd notion, regardless of the frequency with which it's used as a fantasy device.
YMMV of course, but for me, this episode was a whole less than the sum of its parts.

  8. Yep. Lots of logical gafs in this one...

  9. To be fair, he picked a DEAD Charlie - who died saving him - when is Dean going to be ok with that? - over having Sam take a little longer to heal. They are trying to protect Cas even though he's not in the Bunker. After all, they've let Kevin go on furlough too.

  10. Of course Charlie "SAVED" Dean that is all she does in eps, save the day. Very old and lame.

Great review! Couldn't agree more Lisa. Also cant wait to see what's in the garage.

  12. One of my fav eps so far! I hope Charlie comes home.

  13. This episode is my favort so far. Love that Charlie came back because my favort sence are Dean and Charlie. It like a brother sister relationships it so cute how protective Dean is of her. Also Charlie at the end going with Dorothy to Oz was cute. Loved this episode can't wait for next week Dean a dog lol.

  14. I think that because we are headed into November Sweeps that most storyline moving forward episodes are saved for then. I liked this episode! But I also don't go quite into depth as everyone here. That wasn't meant to be an insult either, I actually come here to read everyone's opinions and insights to help me a bit more. You guys are all awesome because when something frustrates me with the show and the opposite its great to see how you guys feel. Most of my friends that are SPN watchers aren't into delving further.

I think that Zeke is becoming sloppy or overwhelmed and that's why he forgot to erase Sam's memory of Dean saying the Angels name.

I am so glad we finally got to see Sam's room and I hope that the bunker becomes more of a home for him as the show goes on. I really hope that tptb don't destroy the bunker either.

I wish we had gotten to see Dean's reaction to finding the garage. That would have been awesome!

  15. Weak episode but great review, thanks ;D

Yes, the use of 'The wizard of Oz' and how they changed things to match Supernatural world was well done, I like that. I like Dorothy (except her foul attitude in 1935). I was glad to see Charlie again. Also Crowley was lovely as always.

    But here are my dislikes:
1.The Witch was awful, as you said. Her mopping around, gestures of supposedly scare or triumph, even her face and hair was ridiculous. When she was getting prepared to open the door I was like: "Really?! I'm watching such a clown? And this is Supernatural?!!"
2.Why they thought they should play that flashback like they are acting in a 1940s movie? Monster Movie was supposed be a parody of classic horror films, not this one. Only Dorothy was acting normal there.
3.Other minor things; There were scenes like everybody was waiting for the director to say 'action', like when Charlie entered the bunker. The way how easily and affectionally Dorothy bonded with Charlie,.. why exactly Charlie asked her if they were friends then when she got resurrected?!
Also there was a promise we'd take a look at Sam's feeling through his confiding in Dorothy, nothing like that was there!

The best part for me was AC/DC playing out at the end and I'm not even a fan, it was a great choice.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Well, he chose Sam living over shutting the Gates of Hell last season, thereby dooming probably millions of people to torment and death, so requiring Sam to wear the Band-Aid a bit longer seems like a minor lapse, relatively speaking....

    ReplyDelete
  17. Maybe not my favorite episode, but I'm always happy to have more Charlie!!!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Thanks! Some pretty cherry rides in there! I wonder if the budget covers taking any of them for a spin! LOL! Felicia Day tweeted they weren't even allowed to touch them! LOL - maybe they were mostly thinking of the boys....

    ReplyDelete
  19. I really love the relationship between Charlie and Dean too! Can't wait for more Charlie - they better bring her back from Oz!

    ReplyDelete
  20. No worries! Sometimes I wish I could just watch for fun - but sometimes it really helps me to appreciate an episode I didn't like that much at first if I really delve into it and see the little things I didn't notice at first. I'm hoping Sam will finally settle into the bunker too.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Thanks! I had exactly the same response as you to the witch opening the door. I think the flashback were done like a 1930s movie to mimic TWoO. I did like that Dorothy in the past was so brash - she was really a fish out of water there - much more suited to modern times. There really wasn't enough time for Dorothy and Charlie to bond as you say. We did get Sam explaining a bit about why the bunker wasn't really home for him to Dorothy which may have loosened him up to tell Dean the same thing. I liked that Sam has come far enough and they've gotten past their differences enough that Sam can tell Dean how he feels without feeling like Dean is going to ignore him or discount his feelings.
    I'm a huge AC/DC fan - in case you couldn't tell - LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  22. AC/DC was my favorite part too.

Crowley was my second favorite (loved his reference to Wicked)

I was glad Charlie was back but disappointed about the fact that we didn't see Dean and Castiel conversation :(

It was an OK episode. I was hoping for more.

  23. Back In Black Tricksteress 9530 October 2013 at 22:08

I am a massive fan of AC/DC so that was perfect for the ending of the fabulous episode. We may see Charlie again, just not for a while yet. I'm glad she did went with Dorothy because of the adventure of the magic she craves for. In my opinion that was the best Charlie episode :)
Glad we got to see Sam room and they watch GOT!. So Sam still likes his books and Dean likes his clean kitchen lol.
I would like to know what Dean said to Cas, I think he just kept him in the dark about Zeke and told him he was the risk. How is the angel different from the King Of Hell?. I just think Crowley is more of a risk because Abbadon would want him dead and his own army would want to rescue him. I'm glad the boys are being so careful of Crowley escaping because that is what I fear. I'm glad he got shot too, by the way those scenes are always funny but powerful those boys just want to tear strips from Crowley but they are holding their grounds good.
That was another close call with the 'white' lie with Sam being knocked out and Dean spoke to Sam of Zeke name!. Sam would already be suspicous, so lets just assume he will have another king hit and when he wakes up that's over he's not going to be fooled for much longer. I don't even think he was really fooled he knew something was up and he would be wondering why but he probably feels crazy er-understandably. Maybe he would feel something but does not complain, like why would his head be sore!.
I still think Zeke is complicated and not getting simpler by the episode. Why didn't he pop up when Sam was controlled by the witch?. I do think Zeke is not deliberately allowing Sam to be hurt, but maybe for his own gain?. Something ticked when he said his own power. I thought that can't be exactly true. Zeke power was strong as possessing Sam, when I think of it all he done was heal, which is good I don't want anyone to be dead, especially Charlie jumped for Dean!. But if Sam gets stronger what other things Zeke will do?. Will he go off the rails knowing Sam powersource? or shall he not be tempted and when he leaves he is just a basic angel?. I think Sam power is just dormat not gone.
Dean would just haveto hope Sam won't read the books about Ezekiel, but he really does need to tell soon. Which will happen and that will be interesting where that will lead to.
I'm glad the brotherly interactions, they are actually getting on quite well so far and we see the gentler side of them lately. I adore Dean quickly settled in, his robe and cooking and cleaning ways. And Sam got to come around it at the end I hope this will really be the home because they do so well in it :)

  25. Also they change forever how I watch oz from now on.

  26. Great review!! Glad you also thought it was weird that Dorothy had to be cut out of that weird web stuff but the witch was fine to run around the bunker.
What I just didn't like or didn't get was how readily excepting that the boys were that , oh ok, this is THE Dorothy from the wizard of oz. it's really. And this is the witch. And that's not weird. And we're not going to question it at all.
It just felt off to me. I spent the entire episode waiting for someone to wake up and it all be a crazy dream induced by weird paint gases when dean knocked over the jar.
I just.... Couldn't love it because it just didn't seem right in our supernatural universe.
On the other hand, I did love Crowley mimicking what the witch said to the boys. That was great. And I'll always love Charlie. Felt so proud to have understood her "sweet Ada Lovelace" quote when opening the computer.
And all the game of thrones references were great too

  27. Last season I thought the MOTW were, especially from midseason on, better than the myth episodes, which have anything and everything in them. This season it's tough to say because there isn't as much of a division. We're still seeing Ezekiel in every episode and Dean's lies have been building up every week.

I just think the quality of scriptwriting is a little too inconsistent, and the show isn't sure what it wants to be. That works for the show in some ways, because this brings in different types of fans, but it's an odd mix.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I have not watched it but once, but I thought when the jar was turned over that was the witch being set free. Need to watch again, but I really don't care one hoot for Charlie. I put her in my least favorite characters with the Ghostfacers.

  29. It makes sence that every time Ziek has to use his powers he's literally making Sam weaker and thus making the recovery period longer, after all he is leaching power from Sam's soul. I would guess that that is how Zeik is healing himself by using the power of Sam's soul. I wonder if Sam can somehow figure out how to tap into Zeiks powers in the point?

  30. I actually thought another director would have been better than Bob Singer. He seemed extremely pedestrian and generic to me, with a number of performances that weren't up to their full energy.

I agree with most of your review, although I'm glad we didn't see the scene where Cas left.

  31. This episode made me feel uncomfortable to say the truth. Loved Crowley. Other than that? No comments....

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think Dorothy liked Charlie as soon as Charlie stood up to her.

    ReplyDelete
  33. There are no consequences to Cas helping Sam and Dean with angel powers. Every time Ezekiel helps out, Sam goes further away, and Dean is forced to tell more lies. I don't know where it's leading, probably just more angst, but at least there's a chance for drama.

Sam was built to house Lucifer - I'm not surprised that he could house a much less powerful angel.

I think Sera Gamble killed off Bobby because she wanted to have some big dramatic death, and to strip Dean and Sam down to basics. I imagine the show regrets that (personally I don't miss him), but they've moved on and now other characters fill some of that role.

  34. I'm really enjoying this new relationship between the brothers too. I think this is the more "mature" relationship Carver was talking about last season. I hope that once the secret gets out, they'll get by it quickly...

    ReplyDelete
  35. They both spilled out when the jar tipped over... so yeah. Ooops. I guess it didn't jar me as much as it did you - I guess after they found out vampires were real, they were ready to accept anything! LOL! But I can definitely see how you would be expecting the dream element to come into it at some point....

    ReplyDelete
  36. Agreed - and that's an interesting possibility...

    ReplyDelete
  37. Lots of good points here. Having Zeke step in in 2 back to back episodes to bring people back to life? It really hits you square in the face that he's a deus ex machina... I think the order of the episodes may have been changed, but even so - it's been bugging me too. Everyone's big complaint about keeping Cas around was just that - he was too easy a fix for everything... so they take away his power and give it to... Sam??? I'm hoping we are getting breadcrumbs to who is after Cas and what the angels are doing... and that we'll see Metatron before mid-season and the big arc will be about him and getting the angels back into heaven - with a very brief fight over the lie between the brothers - but I'm pretty sure the winter break will begin with the fight and they'll come back to reconcile... (Croatoan/Hunted???)
So far, in general, I've found Carver's MotW episodes to be extremely week. I can't say that next week's episode looks very interesting or promising to me....

Dean bracing himself lol. They will haveto get it over quicker than usual because there is the angel apocolyspe to get rid of. It will be normal for every emotions but Sam will see why Dean did this (maybe gradually) I think Sam will accept that Zeke is there to heal only but its about seeing how Zeke respond to this aswell.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Once the secret is out - the decision is then up to Sam. I guess the question is whether Zeke will let Dean tell Sam. If Dean tells Sam and Sam lets Zeke stay, he can't really be mad at Dean, can he? I think it would be awesome if Sam found out after Zeke is out and said, ok, I'm pissed you did that, but I understand why you did it, so let's just move on. At some point, Sam is just going to have to accept that it's pointless for him to have a living will as Dean will never respect it! LOL!

  40. Back In Black Tricksteress 951 November 2013 at 23:03

agree, I think Sam will do that but I wonder what's next with Zeke. I also think (if Zeke is still good) that it will take Zeke alot of explaining to do. It will be interesting how the Sam and Zeke interactions will be. Agree with Dean not respecting the living will :)

  41. I quite liked the actor, so I'm hoping he'll be back to house Zeke and he'll be healed and able to help them get the angels back into heaven... Maybe too simple though??

  42. Back In Black Tricksteress 952 November 2013 at 04:21

I had thought of that today that Sam does have his angel and Dean got his own, technically speaking. Although I have never thought about Sam having a angel or being possess by one I do like Zeke. Its abit of love/hate at the moment, but very very cautious especially after seeing that photo with Metraton and kicking Cas out. It may be too simple that Zeke is taking the angels back but I think its where the storyline taking maybe a different format of the angels. He might want to be powerful as Luicifer controlling them all or a good smaritian with no price whatsoever but may still be on the show with a different vessel or dies saving the day. Anything possible!.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Sure, but both of them were in there. Were we to infer that the witch coccooned up Dot when they got out? Plot hole that would have been easy to fill.

  44. Jar me? lol!

  45. poptart_of_doom8 April 2014 at 06:36

so.... after this episode i've had something that's been bugging me.

can somebody explain why they got rid of characters with history related both the brothers separately, as a unit, the overall mytharc, and just the overall spn story in general for reasons like deus ex machina or whatever

just to stick an angel in sam and have him do exactly what castiel used to do and bring in bobby 2.0s? this isn't me trying to be an ass, i'm honestly asking.

i've enjoyed somewhat the whole sam/ezekiel thing but it's getting to be overused at this point. plus the whole "aren't vessels supposed to start falling apart if they aren't you "true vessel" and other things keep adding up and it's making it hard for me to fall into the story overall.

i know it's only 4 episodes in and it's much too early to think everything will be explained now, but i honestly don't know what the whole shebang is supposed to be about. like, what exactly are the breadcrumbs leading up to the midseason break? yet another brother fight over lies~?

what exactly was the point in making castiel human other than making it so that he couldn't immediately see that ezekiel was shacked up with sam? is there really no other fallout to be addressed from the tablets last season in that we get an episode next week with dean and dogs?

i just, maybe i'm missing something?
