Chicago Fire - Episode 2.05 - A Power Move - Review

For some reason after watching last week’s episode, I kind of lowered my expectations for “A Power Move”, because I thought that the writers couldn’t have delivered great episodes one after another. Maybe I should’ve believed in the writers more. I was wrong, though. This week’s episode was filled with surprises too.

I’m glad that they did a follow up with 51’s snitch. We learned that Spellman’s a Lieutenant at 51 and that he’s spying for Gail McLeod because he’s looking out for the firehouse. Casey told him what we’re all thinking(or at least what I’m thinking), that it’s bullshit and that Gail McLeod is probably blackmailing him. At the end the guys at 51 managed to get rid of him. Good riddance.

Shay is still on her journey towards her downwards spiral. We catch a glimpse of her life out of 51 while we’re waiting for her to hit rock bottom. Clark is trying to win us over this week, helping Shay through her rough patch by giving some advice. It was nice.

Zoya’s visa is expiring, she pitches a marriage proposal to Severide, which I actually thought he would agree to. Looks like he’s much wiser than I give him credit for. However, I’m pretty sure Cruz will take up Zoya’s offer when/if he hears about it. Who thinks so too?

Here’s what I loved about this week’s episode. Gail McLeod offers Chief Boden an early retirement deal, but being the strong and determined chief he is, he declined by saying: “Kiss my ass”. It turns out, by the end of the episode, he actually did resign. But I’m pretty sure he’ll be back. It’s not like Chief Boden will go down without a fight.

Gail McLeod wants Benny Severide to run firehouse 51. I actually did not see that coming. Now that I think of it, I’m kind of convinced the reason why Benny went to Gail McLeod to sabotage Chief Boden is to take over the chief position. What’s his deal anyway? We do not get much from him. But I’m sure the mystery will reveal itself soon. His son is definitely not impressed when he heard the news. This is going to be good. And also going to be interesting. I’m excited to see how this will play out.

This week’s emergency calls are brought to you by a fallen tree and a bloody leg with four lost toes. Although it’s pretty disgusting, I love gory stuff.

Looks like I’ll see you guys in 3 weeks’ time for the next episode. I don’t know about you guys, but I saw the promo and I’m really excited.

Any thoughts or theories brewing up in your minds? Please feel free to comment below. I’m eager to hear what you guys think!

  1. Great review! I love gory stuff too- so that rescue was pretty epic! My mom, not so much- her face: Priceless! Ha! I am hoping we will she more of Boden, and I hope he doesn't end up leaving! I bet Cruz would jump on Zoya's little plan in a heartbeat! ha! I I'm really glad Spellman is gone, never liked him, but am absolutely loving Clarke right now! :) He's turning into an amazing character- and I think Severide will realize how lucky he is to have him! Hopefully very soon! I loved that promo- and can't even begin to think how that will play out! "Firefighter's finest hour" I love Severide, so that makes me even more excited to see how 2x06 goes down!

I actually saw Benny going for the Boden's job since the scene where he went to visit McLeod at her office.

Loved the tree scene, it was very well done, every time the floor started shaking, I thought it was gonna come down with all of them inside.

Can't wait for the next episode, it looks like it's gonna be very intense!!!

By the way, great improvement on your review! :)
