CREATED BY Sam Laybourne & Will Gluck (The Loop, Easy A)

WHEN The show premieres Thursday, September 26 at 9:30 PM on NBC

THE CAST The star of the show of course is Michael J. Fox, best known for his work on Back to the Future trilogy, Family Ties and Spin City. On the show he’s a former news anchor diagnosed with Parkinson's disease Mike Henry. His wife Annie is played by Betsy Brandt (Breaking Bad), his kids by Conor Romero, Juliette Goglia and Jack Gore, his sister by Katie Finneran and his boss/colleague by Wendell Pierce (The Wire, Treme).

THE BACKGROUND Five years ago, after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, Mike Henry decided to give up his career and focus on his family and his health. Now he’s coming back to work and he struggles with all the changes around him.

THE GOOD “Everyone knows and loves Mike Henry” – The main character is clearly a very popular guy who everyone admires and respects. I like how things are presented in this aspect. People’s perspectives and expectations towards Mike and the view on his disease are a very interesting part of the show. And so well made. Another thing, it’s not hard to get why he’s such a beloved person. He’s good at his job and in general, is a great guy with a lot experience and fascinating stories to tell. Solid and entertaining character. And Michael J Fox is absolutely brilliant in this role. I definitely missed seeing him on my TV! Other good characters that caught my eye in the pilot would be Mike’s wife, Annie and his boss Harris. I see a lot of potential here. And 8-year old Graham is both cute and funny. Also, this kid and Mike’s (potential) assistant were probably one of the funniest parts of the pilot.

THE BAD “He basically called me a phony” – The bad things, well, I can’t say that I find the rest of the characters too interesting. But it’s something that can definitely change, once we get to know them more. And the second thing, well, for a comedy, the show isn’t that hilarious. It has funny bits (definitely one I loved!), but it’s more like a charming and smart family comedy, maybe even a dramedy. So if you’re looking for something just for laugh, maybe it’s not exactly a show for you.

WATCH OR NOT I say “yes”! The show’s definitely worth a chance. Watch first 2 or 3 episodes and who knows, you might just get hooked. It’s a very well made piece of television with a lot of potential and it’s not to be overlooked in this fall’s pilot jungle.

TRAILER In case you missed it:

Are YOU planning on watching the show? a) Yes, I can’t wait, b) Maybe I’ll check it out or c) No, I’m not interested?

  1. Thanks. Yeah, it's definitely a well made show, but it may not be for everyone. Personally, I think I'm going to check out a couple more episodes and see if I'm gonna continue.

  2. Thanks for the Preview! I haven't been big on comedies for a long time, but I might just check this out since it seems to be a blend of comedy and drama and because it seems so nostalgic of Michael J. Fox works :)

  3. I know, I decided to check this one out mostly cause I missed seeing Michael J Fox on my TV and he's so great in this show. And, yeah, it's definitely not just comedy.

  5. Yes, I want to check this out, not the least reason that seeing Betsy Brandt again will ease me out of my post-Breaking Bad grief.
