Following a brief run atop NBC's Smash, Josh Safran has set up two projects in development one at ABC and the other at FOX.
At ABC, Safran has reunited with former Gossip Girl showrunners Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz's Fake Empire for Social Circle.
"Social Circle" is described as a high-concept thriller about how well people really know their friends. In the age of incessant texting, tweets, status updates and Instagram photos, people have become their own publicists, massaging their images. The drama will follow a group of friends from college, now in their late 20s, as they regroup and discover that they don't really know each other well at all.
Second, Safran has Royal set up at Fox via 20th Century Fox Television and Chernin Entertainment. The drama is a sexy and sophisticated soap about a K ate Middleton-type who, after she's caught having an affair, is thrown out of the royal family and forced to take the only job she can get: an assistant and minder to the temperamental, suicidal, drug- and sex-addicted up-and-coming designer Thomas King, who is also running from his own past.

If I wanted to be a smartass, I'd say that unless FOX and ABC are in the market for a TV series that starts out really well and quickly turns into an unwatchable train wreck, they should probably pass on anything with Josh Safran at the helm... but I don't want to be a smartass so I won't say that. :)
ReplyDeleteYou're not, why they want him after the Smash flop is beyond me.
ReplyDeleteThe shows sounds like they're just rehashing elements of GG over and over again, they've run dry out of ideas.
Not one, but TWO Josh Safran shows? No thank you.
ReplyDeleteRoyals sounds dreadful, while Social Circle does not sound like a "high-concept thriller" yet. Will have to get more details. Old college buddies lying about their life online sounds very everyday to me.
ReplyDeleteOh brother.... yeah.... I'm.... I dunno.... It's Josh Saphran.... and Stephanie Savage... so even if they start out good (and with those descriptions that debatable), they're going down the drain.... FAST!
ReplyDeleteLOL! I feel you sir!
ReplyDeleteAgreed on Royal....
ReplyDeleteUnless one of the "friends" is covering up a murder or something through social media, I don't see it being very thriller-ish...
OH! Maybe the setup could be like a Derek Messina thing. And then the rest of his friends get involved in the investigation, and the whole thing is why this person they knew would post evidence of him committing murder on facebook or something...
I really don't know why I'm putting so much thought into this....
