Glee's Grant Gustin has landed the role of Flash alter ego Barry Allen, who will appear on Arrow before possibly heading up his own spin-off, TVGuide.com has learned.
In the world of Arrow, Barry is a Central City assistant police forensic investigator who arrives in Starling to look into a series of unexplained robberies that may have a connection to a tragedy in his past. A comic book fan boy, Barry is obsessed with the Arrow but unaware that working with Oliver and Felicity to solve the crime has brought him right into the dangerous world of the vigilante.
Barry will first appear in Episodes 8 and 9 of the second season of Arrow before the backdoor pilot for the potential spin-off airs as Episode 20, all of which will be written by Arrow executive producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg as well as DC Entertainment's Geoff Johns. The first two episodes will bring Barry to Starling City, while the latter will be a bigger introduction into the world of Flash.

He was the one I was hoping won't get the role from the three finalists Latino Review reported on. Oh well, if I won't like him, I just won't watch his show.

ReplyDeleteI'm willing to give the writers and the actor the benefit of the doubt. Gustin's Glee character was smarmy, but maybe he'll do well as the Flash. He looks too young, but if WB is planning on including Gustin in the Justice League movie, he'll be in his 30s by the time that comes around. And remember guys, this is basically an origin story for the Flash, so I guess he's supposed to be young.

ReplyDeletenot too sure about this casting as he seems too young-ish looking for the role of Barry Allen's Flash, the Wally West version might've made more sense, but this seems like the CW casting to their typical demo... don't know who the other candidates were, but someone like a Matt Davis might've made more sense to me

ReplyDeleteThey lost me at "Glee." If this were any other network, I'd say the producers just botched their spinoff chances but this is The CW so everything is still in play.
ReplyDelete1. He looks too young to have a professional job. 2. I don't like the idea of superpowers in Arrow. This article on one hand makes it sound like they are coming, and on the other that they are coming only to the spin-off. I wish they made it a little more clear.

ReplyDeleteThis is bad news. He looks too young for the part, and I just think this whole Flash idea won't do any good to Arrow. I like how grounded the show is and I have a suspicion that with all this comes super powers and I don't think that matches with Arrow. I hope there's enough backslash for this to be stopped.

ReplyDeleteI don't want the spin-off cancelled because I think it could be good for the CW. However I am right with you in not wanting superpowers on Arrow. If they make Barry Allen a grounded character in Arrow and not quite the Flash, then they could explain his superhero powers on the spin-off and never need to introduce them into the Arrow universe.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping they don't go ahead with the spin-off, I might be acting like a pessimist, but this casting news gave me the impression that it might just not to work. I could be wrong, though. Yes, please no super powers on Arrow.
