Revenge - Season 3 - Emily VanCamp talks about Emily's love life

Much of Revenge ‘s second season found Emily VanCamp‘s vengeance- seeking leading lady juggling three men: Daniel, Jack and Aiden. But the actress tells TVLine that pretty soon, she’ll have her hands full with just two of the hunks.

As part of ABC’s plan to streamline the drama in Season 3 , which will be overseen by new showrunner Sunil Nayar, Emily Thorne’s love life is about to get a lot simpler. “One thing that Sunil and I talked about was really defining her relationship with these men, because it got very muddled,” she reveals. “No one is going to love three men in the same way. We really needed to define: Who does Emily Thorne love?” And that definition does not include one member of that trio.

“She’s really using Daniel,” she concedes. “It’s unfortunate. There really is not the element of love between Emily and Daniel. It’s part of her plan. Jack and Aiden are her two great loves, for very different reasons. Emily and Aiden understand each other on a totally different level than anyone could ever imagine. And yet the nostalgia and the childhood love and the purity and the wholesomeness of love with Jack is such an appeal to her, too.”

And now that Daniel's been removed from the equation, I'll remove this show from my watch list. Truth is last season I had to make the efort to watch this before deleting it from my dvr, because, well what was the point of recording it if I wasn't going to watch it, right? but the shipper in me kept me coming back for Daniel/Emily, now that it's been almost confirmed that thats never going to actually happen (aside from her using him) I have no reason to keep on watching. Her lovestory with Jack when Amanda got knocked up, and Aiden I just could never ge into. And when it comes to her personal development, I felt like a jojo last season, so I guess this is bye bye Revenge, you had potential during your first season, so sad it never went beyond that.

  3. I never liked Daniel and it always stunned me how many people prefer Emily with him. Last season brought out a side of him that made me really hate him, then right when it seemed he was turning over a new leaf and becoming a better person, he would do something even worse.

I liked him at first, but the more power he gets the more he wants, and the greater lengths he's willing to go to get it. People want Emily and Daniel together because they have good chemistry, but I want them apart because Daniel hasn't done anything to deserve her. Just looking at their relationship since season one, they remind me a lot of Victoria and Conrad. They had a very sincere, passionate love in the beginning, but their manipulative and conniving ways clashed so often that they grew hate each other. Which is the path I'm sure Daniel and Emily are on right now.

  4. I saw this coming and I think this was pretty clear on season 2 (not on season 1 though). I would prefer another direction as I liked the whole falling in love with the devil thing, but I can live

  6. Regardless of whether you like Daniel, In season 1 your could see Emily loved/ cared about Daniel but after he found out about her father and did nothing he became a different person to her and she hasn't loved him since.

I think she loved Aiden and while they are a lot alike without the strength and revenge they have nothing in common. I don't see them making it in the long run.

Personally I prefer her with Jack. In a way the sort of naturally fit but they don't really have any romantic relationship and with their history so mixed up now i don't know if they could ever be anything.

I'd be happy with her being with Aiden or Jack but I wouldn't be surprised if Aiden left, her and Jack were best friends and she found a different guy completely.

  7. Agree about Daniel. But I think it's more than revenge for Emily & Aiden. It's what set them on the path of revenge that they share and that will never change. She and Jack were a sweet ideal until Amanda, baby Carl and the wedding.

  8. Makes me sad that the show has to focus so much on her love life to begin with, I much prefer her friendship with Nolan.

  9. It's really pathetic that you're trashing the show because your shipping won't come to fruition.

  10. But Aiden's revenge is done with him avenging the death of his sister and the Lahari's for Nolan. Even when Aiden killed his mentor, I thought that it was for him too far to go. Still hoping that Aiden gets the label of a good friend fast. For me it was all Jack and Emily. Those flashbacks to the childhood wedding at the beach had made me really aww.

I'm not trashing the show because my ship won't come to fruition, what I'm saying is that if it wasn't because I shipped a couple, I would've been done with this show quite a while ago, I just sticked around for a while longer because of them. Truth is, I probably wouldn't have watched this season anyway. And I don't know what is it you call "trashing" honey, but if you re-read my post you'd see I didn't say one bad thing about it, since when saying that I was dissapointed by character is dissing a show?

  12. Aiden is not needed anymore. There shouldn't be anymore "love interest" between Emily and him. Aiden story is finished, they are not on the same path anymore.

  13. Frankly, I don't think she could have a long-term romantic relationship with either Jack or Daniel.

Daniel doesn't even know her - she's always had an agenda with him, so their relationship was based on manipulation and pretence. Revenge has always been her primary focus.

Her love for Jack, on the other hand, is rooted in the sweet memories of her childhood - which is why she has pretty much idealised him. But they're just soooo extremely different characters, I don't think they'll work together well in the long run. I like them as friends - and perhaps they could have had a relationship before faux!Amanda/the wedding/the baby - but he's clearly not ready to move on at this point. Anyway, we've seen a lot of tension between them already, and it's going to take a lot to gain his trust again.

I certainly like Emily/Aiden best - they just feel like equals and kindred spirits. I absolutely love him as a character. His relationship with Emily, his friendship with Nolan, Aiden/Ems/Nolan teaming up - those are my favourite things from s2 and they all made for great TV. There's definitely room for the Aiden/Emily relationship to grow - even if they're not endgame, he should be around for a few more seasons.
