How I Met Your Mother - Season 9 - Six things to know

21 Aug 2013

1. What's in a name? We can only call her The Mother and Mrs. Mosby for so long (aka eight years). The producers do have a name in mind. "I'm not going to say how soon we're going to learn that, but we are going to learn that," Bays says. But can anything top Blah Blah?

2. When Ted will meet The Mother: We know Ted and The Mother will meet on the Farhampton train platform after Barney and Robin's wedding, but when during the season will that occur? Though many fans are behind the idea of having the two meet at the series' last moment and then cut to black — a conceivable option with the season taking place over one weekend — Bays promises that "we're going to see much more to them than just their meeting."

  1. I hope we get her name soon because I'm so sick of calling her The Mother.

    Can't wait for season nine!

  2. I wouldn't say a lot of the fans are behind the decision to make the whole season the wedding and then have the show end right when Ted and the mother meet. I still feel like that was absolutely the wrong move. But the fact that we do get to see them after their meeting will be nice.

  3. I hope the author meant that fans are afraid of the idea of the two only meeting for a brief moment in the final seconds of the series.

  4. No, it's saying fans are behind the idea of Ted and The Mother meeting in the very last second of the series.

  5. I'm really excited to final meet the mother, for really not just a final shot. I hope they spend the first half with her meeting the friends and the last half her meeting ted, including flashbacks and flash forwards.

I know that this season is robin and barneys wedding but I hope the show focuses on ted and the mother like the early seasons use to. I liked the original episodes of the first few seasons because they revolved around ted and included the other characters secondary. In the later seasons it seemed like Ted was less important and just an extra with the focus on everyone else. Some episodes he didn't even seem to have a story.

  6. Oh please don't make the woman's name a season-long mystery, just give it to us in the first episode.

Also can't wait for an episode from the mothers perspective, considering this season set-up that would be the only way to see Ted's sister again.

  7. The idea of them meeting at the train station with a Scrubs-esque "My Finale" montage of flash-forwards and flash-backs covering them dating and marrying and their near-misses of meetings respectively has been how I've always envisioned the last seconds/minutes of the series. That certainly wouldn't be a fearful option for me at all.

  8. I'm really happy that we're going to learn a lot about the mother I just hope they do it in a good satisfying way so that the mother doesn't look like a consolation prize.

  9. Based on the episode where Ted and Barney spent Thanksgiving in a stripper joint, shouldn't the mother's name be Tracy? There was a scene were Ted and Barney were there at the Thanksgiving buffet and a stripper came up to Ted. Ted asked her name and she first said some kind of stripper name, then she said her name was Tracy. There was a flash forward to Ted's son and daughter on the couch and Ted said, "and that's how I met your mother." The kids screamed WHAT! and Ted laughed and said just kidding. I could be wrong, but that's how I remember it.

  10. Totally agree, first seasons focusing more on Ted were the best

  11. I REALLY don't see how they're going to make it believable that Ted could get over Robin in the course of one weekend when he's had romantics feelings for her for, oh, 8 years or so. Guess we'll see...

  12. I am not really expecting much from the last season, but I would appreciate a How I met Your Father kinda episode even though I know it is a long shot.

I will be majorly pissed though if they only show Ted and her meeting and end the season shortly after that after a series os "clips" about how their love blossomed, bla bla bla.

  13. We know The Mother meets a member of the gang in the season premiere (I think it's Lily), and I don't get how she won't tell them her name. The "I'm not going to say how soon" part makes me think we'll not learn her name right away.

  14. Robin has already narrated an episode to her (non-existent) children, so
why not The Mother too? Bays says it's "definitely" in the cards that
we see the past eight years from The Mother's perspective, including
those handful of near-miss meetings between her and Ted.

    and

"we're going to see much more to them than just their meeting."

I LOVE IT! OMG I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!

  15. Then if that was going to happen, new viewers should just skip to the last 10 seconds of the nine years. Boom. That's how I met your mother!
