TNT passes on Bounty Hunter Drama Pilot starring Geena Davis

Looks as though TNT will not go forward with its Geena Davis bounty hunter drama series. According to sources with knowledge of the situation, the network has decided not to take the next step after seeing the pilot, which was shot in April. Something to do with its tone. This project, from Dean Devlin’s Electric Entertainment, Ternion Productions, and 3 Arts, was one of the cable net’s more high profile projects. Written by Scott Prendergast and Amy Berg, it was inspired by the real-life story of bounty hunter Mackenzie Green. Davis was cast in the role of the unconventional bail bondswoman and bounty hunter, whose eccentric personality and unusual tactics give her an advantage in a tough and unpredictable business. Back in March, when Deadline last checked in on the project, Men Of A Certain Age star Scott Bakula had been cast, marking his return to TNT, playing Mackenzie’s former husband, who is a cop. The tony cast also included Gloria Reuben, Marsha Mason, and Enrico Colantoni. Reuben was to haves played an assistant DA. Colantoni was cast as Mackenzie’s former accountant, and Mason was cast as Mack’s tough-as-nails mother.

  1. Are you kidding me? This is an amazing cast, and Amy Berg is such a talented writer!

  2. I'm surprised it took so long to pass on this. I'm about as likely to believe Geena Davis as a bounty hunter as I would Barbara Streisand playing the head of a street gang.

  3. After that pirate movie, I am totally incapable of seeing Geena as an action hero. And even if the character was more like the adorable Brenda Leigh Johnson, the whole bounty hunter aspect seems just weird.

  4. Those are the two factors that baffle me the most. The pilot must have tested really bad.

  5. Cutthroat Island was a campy mess, and not in a good way (though I can still find myself happily watching it if it's on TV and there's nothing else, I will never give it props on being even half decent), and yeah she wasn't a very good pirate, but I don't know about not being an action hero. She managed fairly decently in The Long Kiss Goodnight. Not perfect but IMO she was passable...
