In the last poll we saw victories for Once Upon A Time and Grey's Anatomy, the two expected winners coming out of their first rounds with solid results. I'm sure several Grimm fans will be disappointed to have made little impact against Grey's, but they always have next year to redeem the story.
Today sees two dramas challenging two comedies, as Private Practice takes on the ever-growing in popularity New Girl, whilst the biggest comedy on television, The Big Bang Theory takes on Joss Whedon's most famous creation, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It's two interesting battles, it's time to find out who can win...
For anyone who missed the opening day, these are the rules of the competition:

Voting Buffy. Best show ever created. The choice is especially easy considering its going against the mess of misogyny and sexism that is Big Bang Theory.

ReplyDeleteEasy again today: first one is neither, because I don't watch either of them, nor can I see myself starting. Second one is The Big Bang Theory, partially because I love it, and partially because even though I have seen a few episodes of Buffy, there is something about Sarah Michelle Gellar that just rubs me up the wrong way!

ReplyDeletePrivate Practice and Buffy for me today! -That second one was hard, as BBT is one comedy I watch every now and again and find very entertaining, but Buffy was so iconic and ahead of it's time that I had to vote for it. I've never seen New Girl, so Private Practice was an easy choice.

ReplyDeleteI wish these polls were switched around. Nothing in the first one because I have never seen either show. Usually Big Bang Theory would get a first round vote from me because while I do not watch it live or on a regular basis, I enjoy the reruns when I come across them. However, Buffy was one of my first TV obsessions and there are only a few shows in this that I vote before Buffy. Big Bang Theory is not one of them.

ReplyDeleteNew Girl and Buffy for me today. TBBT can be funny, but for me its rare, plus I resent it as its on at the same time as Community (my favorite comedy) and takes viewers away.

ReplyDeleteFirst one was easy: New Girl. (as much as I loved Addie on Grey's, and as much as I adored the whole cast of PP, I never really liked the show itself...)
ReplyDeleteSecond one killed me! It killed me. I voted TBBT, but I mean either/or.... I love both shows to death...
Okay now lets not confuse TBBT with T&aHM.... Big Bang is faaaaar from being sexist and misogynistic!
ReplyDeleteI literally stopped caring about that show after few episodes due to the stereotypical portrayal of females and just how offensive some of the stuff in that show is about them. It follows the world view that females can't be geeks and should just become playboy bunnies.
ReplyDeleteIts litteraly living off the idea that females can't be geeks or nerds(ex: most of female characters hate comic books and view most of "geek behavior" as silly)
To sum up - Big Bang Theory is embodiment of everything we should get past in geek culture - the idea that only males are allowed to read comic books, play games or cosplay. Its the sexist phrase "there are no gamer/nerd girls on the internet" turned into a tv show. literally. .
Apart from that I found most of humor in it incredibly crude and heavy-handed.

ReplyDeleteI liked Big Bang Theory at first when it started airing, but it seriously lost its appeal very fast when I realized the underlying themes in it, as partly glorifying everything I hate about the internet culture.
I don't watch PP or NG, so no vote there, but in the other BBT is good, but it's the Buffster for me by a long mile

ReplyDeleteSecond one is easily The Big Bang Theory. I love it, one of my favorite comedies ever, but my life is easier since I have never watched Buffy. The first one is hard because I feel again like we are comparing apples with oranges. I loooove New Girl, it is one of my favorite comedies too but throughout the years, I got really invested in PP and I loved some of its characters dearly - it had some rough spots and storylines, but when it was good, it was excellent. I will vote for it if for no other reason for the fact that New Girl will win for sure (and I am fine with that, really).
ReplyDeleteI think that is especially true because they write all of the male characters with the stereotype of nerds just seeing girls as objects to be won, at least that's my opinion. But yeah I can totally see where you are coming from, even though I dislike for a different reason

ReplyDeleteFrom your answer I gather you haven't seen anything more than a couple of episodes from the first season. If that is indeed the case, I think it's fair to say that your whole assessment for a show that has been on the air for 7 years is a little misinformed. But to each their own.
