Here is my preview of the pilot episode of The Bridge.
This episode of The Bridge picks right back up on the scene that everyone was really interested in. I can't say what, but I can tell you that you find out very, very early what was behind that door on the ranch. It's definitely going to change Charlotte's life and the way that she thinks about her late husband. Later, she is visited by a mysterious man who would remind you of Julia Roberts' ex-husband. That's because it is! Lyle Lovett guest stars as a former "business" partner of Charlotte's husband.
Over to our two main characters, Sonya and Marco are still trying to figure out why Frye (Matthew Lillard) was singled out by the mysterious killer. Frye, on the other hand, is more concerned about his career in journalism, rather than the lives of the people on either side of the border. While I do believe that Frye is going to be a major pain in the ass, I also recognize the comic relief that his character provides. In the midst of his arguing with Sonya he tells her that her "bedside manner sucks dog balls". Very entertaining scene to say the least.
But life isn't all about work for Marco or Sonya this episode. Sonya is beginning to show her personal side and evens takes a trip to the bar. Still limited socially by her Asperger's syndrome, Sonya tries to pick up a guy to have sex. I don't want to give away too much, but use your imagination. Marco, meanwhile, gets a surprise from his wife. Looks like he should have moved that procedure up to an earlier date.
While they aren't busy spending times socializing (or just fornicating in Sonya's case) the two detectives are hard at work on the case. Sonya decides that she must travel to Juarez in order to further research the case. Sonya is very much accustomed to the orderly way things are taken care of in El Paso. She finds out very quickly that things are very different in Mexico and that asking too many questions can take a person down a very dangerous path.
Once the team is back in El Paso they figure out the voice behind the messages left by the killer. All I can say is, it's exciting. Overall, this episode isn't quite as mind blowing as the pilot was, but it still keeps you interested. It definitely has a more personal side to it, but I think they can do more with the contrasting personalities of the characters. I'm sure the next episode will tell us more.
Rating: 8/10
Tune in to The Bridge on Wednesday @ 10/9c on FX Network. Be sure to come back here to SpoilerTV to let everyone else know what you thought of the episode.

I hope Frye turns out to be more useful than just being a cocky guy. I hope his near death experience opens his eyes. If not, I'd have the cartel kill him.
ReplyDeleteSounds great! :)
ReplyDeleteThough you make it sounds like Sonya spends half the episode having sex? Do you remember what the run-time was? I loved the one hour long pilot! :)
Lol. A good amount of time in the episode was spent in the bar, bed, etc. The run time was the usual 43-44 minutes I believe. Pretty entertaining episode on the whole.
