Awesome episode! Probably my favorite episode of the season so far. It was really nice to see Stiles be the first one to figure out what is happening with all the killings. And WOAH! seeing Boyd and Cora ripping Derek apart was absolutely heartbreaking and I don't want anyone to do that to Derek ever again. Finding out Heather was also dead brought me a huge sigh of relief because I still have hope that Erica is still alive. I REFUSE TO THINK SHE IS DEAD. But it was really sad to see Stiles cry. Can't wait for next week!
my favorite part of the episode was isaac and derek's conversation about cora! but overall i did not love the episode, it felt like a filler to me with a majority of the episode just focused on capturing boyd and cora and then the last 5 minutes actually important with stiles realization
My favorite of the season too! I loved seeing Chris Argent, Derek, Scott and Isaac working together to safely contain the essentially innocent Cora and Boyd, assisted from afar by Allison. Is that teacher going to be an LI for Derek? And what the heck is going with Lydia, I don't think it's Peter who is making her have visions and act under compulsions this time. Stiles is awesomely intelligent/intuit as ever. Virgin sacrifices and non-native fireflies, there has to be connection beyond the Alpha pack.
I really am getting worried for Lydia. I care a lot about her and for me to see her keep getting tortured kills me inside. I wonder if the Deucalion has something to do with what is happening with Lydia. I really hope we found out what is wrong with her this season.
Last season Lydia's hallucinations and compulsions were caused by Peter's bite and her immunity to being "turned". But what if Lydia has become something of "natural sensitive" (to paranormal occurrences) since Peter's bite ... or maybe the bite just awakened a natural capability she's had from birth? She had the vicious "nightmare" last episode and in this week's she woke up, hollered for mom, and then went shopping but she had no recollection of how she ended up at school, saw the mannequin in the pool and then the murdered student; she wasn't otherwise harmed in any way.
She wasn't drawn to woods where the young woman was murdered. Both Heather and young woman (I forgot her name already) were hallucinating something, likely different things - the young woman was hallucinating insects). Was Lydia tapping into Heather's hallucination - or the male student's (I'm assuming he hallucinated something, too) and that's why Lydia was drawn to the school? I think it depends if the Deucalion/Alpha Pack plot is going to be definitely linked to the "Virgin Sacrifice" plot - this season is 24 episodes rather than just 12 but they will be broken into 12 ep "halves", so TW could run two separate but overlapping storylines in S3.
What a rough way for Stiles to find out Heather was killed. I got a kid out of the werewolf hunter schooling 3 werewolves on werewolves. :-D (The actress that plays Lydia could make lots of extra money recording screams and selling the audio tracks to B Horror movies producers.) Stiles yelling at Lydia she should call him before she called the cops struck me as all the more funny because of Stiles' enduring crush on her. The Sheriff running through the woods to find the body kicked me out of the story for a second cause it made me wonder why he was running. It felt like they did it because the director thought the scene was too static and not for a story related reason. It just kicked me out.
I dont like this episode. Virgin Sacrifice? Really? What would be next? Desperate search for a girl with who could Stiles lost his virginity with? It would be like dumbest plot ever.
I really missed plot from season 1 when Scott was trying to find a way how live as a normal teenager though he is werewolf. I thought an alpha pack was too much and now this?
It's apparently part of some ritual the Alpha pack are going to do - and probably something to do with why the guidance counselor who's friends with the vet is working with the Alpha pack. Given the power blood has in the Teen Wolf mythology why do you find it odd that virgin blood would be more powerful and used in rituals.
It cross my mind too now, that this ritual has something to do with ms. morrell. :-) Some culture believed that virgin blood is powerful because it is pure, innocent. So maybe Deucallion doing that for some ritual of purification or something like that. But I still dont like his new plot.
I have to agree with other people who say that this wasn't their favorite episode. Although Teen Wolf doesn't really do filler episodes, this felt like the closest thing to a filler episode that Teen Wolf could possibly do. And by that I mean an episode whose major plot could have been way trimmed down to 3 minute conversation rsation with flashbacks to let the audience know what had happened to Boyd and Cora the night of the full moon, but instead took up close to 3/4 of the episode.
Now that's not to say that I hated the episode (I'm not even sure I disliked it-I feel more disappointed). But there were some things that I definitely liked and even loved in the episode.
First off there weren't as many funny parts as Teen Wolf generally has, but I did laugh at the scene with Isaac asking Derek about his sister. I really disliked Isaac's character in the beginning, but now he's one of my favorites and I really hope nothing happens to him. Also the scenes between Lydia and Stiles were great. Holland and O'Brien do such a great job playing off of the other's characters exasperation or sarcasm.
Second, I LOVED that they finally acknowledged what most of the fans have been saying for awhile now, which is that the sheriff is not as clueless as all the characters think he is to the supernatural happenings in Beacon Hills. I'm really excited that he didn't correct his deputy when she said someone, while he said something.
This episode also showcased two things that I've been impressed by with Teen Wolf. The first is the cinematic feel of the episodes. I just love how they film this show to give it a movie like feel and some episodes stand out to me more than others (this was definitely one). The other thing is Dylan's acting. I know he'll never be nominated or win an emmy for this show, but in scenes like the one in the morgue tonight I can't help but feel he's being robbed because the show carries a stigma with it. He's got such amazing raw talent.
I actually am one of the few people who didn't necessarily dislike Derek the last two seasons, but I definitely didn't like him. He was just too unwilling to accept help or admit his mistakes and too self assured for my tastes. But one of my favorite things this season is how he's admitted he did a lot wrong and is willing to do anything to correct it (even die). I've really warmed up to him and if he stays like this the rest of the season, he'll probably be one of my favorite characters.
I'm somewhat on the fence about the virgin sacrifices. I'm willing to see where they're going with it, but I hope to God they're not going down the path of adding magic (spells) into the mix. I can deal with a certain level of "magic" in the show, such as different types of wolfsbane having an effect on people and werewolves and things like mountain ash having an effect on supernatural creatures. But if they
Not to keen on how they treated the first ever lesbian couple in this show(what's with one of them getting murdered horribly, not cool show, not cool), nor how they TRULY stuffed Erica into the fridge now, but the overall plot kept this relatively interesting.
I am however interested what is Allison's deal? What is she doing in secrecy? Its clear that she is still just a little bit in love with her hunter-side. I hope we see more of this and less or redemption nonsense that she does NOT need.
Also - with the human sacrifices and animal control - do we have druids in mystic falls now?
a theory: what if Peter Hale is trying to bring back the rest of their family? What if that is the meaning of the hand reaching for those other hands in the opening credits?
Peter is some form of scarily competent magic user (while hunting for revenge, half crazy, he made a resurrection backup plan and pulled it off, he knew that what kept him away from Deaton was ash, he 'recognized' Lydia as immune and knew how to 'use' that, he managed to harness power from a bunch of people at a party with flowers and a 'potion' drink -had Lydia do it-.) and ruthless enough. What if all these is a 'spell' in progress? Lydia might be able to feel some of it, if her 'ties' to him haven't dissolved (he bit her; they're connected by blood now), which would explain her dreams and how she found the body. Bringing back so many people is a massive spell and if he can't have the Worm Moon this time the virgin blood could be a power boost, esp if he's invoking Gaia (the threefold sacrifice plus the girl tied on the tree was bleeding in the soil vs. the boy was bleeding in water, and we have no clue where Heather was found).
Hell even the whole alpha pack could be just another 'ingredient'. They're there because of McCall?! How would they even hear the name/know about him? Buuut if Peter Hale let some rumours spread to lure them in, and, if he had any reputation as a magic user amongst werewolves, Decaulion would be compelled to come check it out, esp since there is no danger for his pack right? Derek is a new, clueless, untrained alpha and he only has a handful of newly turned betas, nothing to take seriously. It works wonderfully. They serve as a distraction for Derek so that he won't notice what Peter is doing, and they are close enough to trap and use when the time comes to drain their power for the spell. The last spell used Derek, but i bet one alpha is hardly enough if more people are to be brought back.... Because...why was he in that forest tonight? Derek didn't call him. And he's made it clear he doesn't care a bit about the betas: how many times has he told Derek to just leave them or that he can just make more of them? But maybe he was planning to pin all the killings on the rampaging betas and it would have worked if Mrs McCall wasn't clued in now and hadn't thought to inform Stiles about the wounds. Farfetched i know :D
a couple of questions arose for me with regard to this episode.... 1) do you think the person or thing performing the human sacrifices is bringing the animals or are they responding to its presence... the bugs that drove the girl out of the tent had me wondering
2) anyone else think Stiles is going to be either a victim or bait for the killer some time later this season.
"Fireflies are medically and scientifically useful.
The two chemicals found in a firefly’s tail, luciferase and luciferin, light up in the presence of ATP. Every animal has ATP in its cells in amounts that are more or less constant—or should be. In diseased cells, the amount of ATP may be abnormal. If the chemicals from fireflies are injected into diseased cells, they can detect changes in cells that can be used to study many diseases, from cancer to muscular dystrophy.
But that’s not all they’re used for. Electronic detectors built with these chemicals have been fitted into spacecraft to detect life in outer space, as well as food spoilage and bacterial contamination on earth."
I actually liked the werewolf school too, but I found it really funny that every time he offered a solution to help track down Cora or Boyd they ended up being totally useless (like Derek not knowing his sister's scent, Scott admitting he was more focused on not smelling things, and Isaac stepping on the tracks they were tracking). Seems like they maybe need to work with him during some times to learn tracking and hunting when it's not critical.
As for the Sheriff running I was in law enforcement for a few years (unfortunately not any more-I was injured breaking up a fight). But I did a couple of searches and if you get something called or radioed in you run your ass off. It's possible that someone drove by and called in something seeing something suspicious or there could have seen buzzards. There's a lot of explanations and I know from being in a similar situation you don't walk in those sort of situations.
But you're right that they should have filmed it better and showed the Sheriff seeing something or getting a call before taking off running. They also could have showed the body getting processed at a crime scene with Stile's dad there and Stiles talking in the background as a voiceover.
For me this episode was only so-so for Teen Wolf, although it remains excellent compared to most TV. There was too much exposition and not enough action. Plus it lost its snark. The best thing was Argent joining the team and the introduction of a serial killer. I am worried now that they are going to rehash the "Lydia as werewolf drudge" again though. I wish she would get a meatier plot line.
the element I was hesitant about was the chase of Boyd and Cora. There was something about that plot line that...made me hold back on an Awesome vote but I still can't put my finger on it....even after watchign the ep twice.
You made me laugh out loud...Summer School for Werewolves.
I like your idea. If the Sheriff had arrived at the tree and crime scene techs or a deputy were there already I wouldn't have popped out of the story to wonder why he was running. :-D
For me it took far too long with very little accomplished. I know they wanted to bring Argent on the team in a big way but Teen Wolf does everything at hyper speed so when it slows to a crawl it's almost uncomfortable.
I thought they were real too and am leery of weekly "When Bugs Attack" scenes. I certainly hope they are hallucinations though. The idea that someone subdues people with bugs before killing them makes me queasy.
For me the most epic one was Derek throwing the ultrasound spike in the tree. I rarely fangirl but I had a nice little fangirl moment there. I also liked Scott's flip off the School Bus of Death.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
