We decided to have a little fun with executive producer Jeff Davis and challenge him to some wordplay. We asked him to describe the first eight episodes of the season in just one word. I know that Ephemeral means "lasting a very short time; short-lived"... and that Hecatolite is the technical term for "Moonstone", the Threes could mean maybe a trio of things, don't know about any Oak, tree or otherwise... Suture is how they fixed a wound, Whistle and Beacon I'm stuck on and Distillation is "the purification or concentration of a substance, the obtaining of the essence or volatile properties contained in it, or the separation of one substance from another, by such a process." I have no clue about any of this...

ReplyDelete"Ephemeral" means - Lasting a very short time. Maybe someone's life (Isaac) or a truce between hunters and wolves? Something along those lines.
"Hecatolite" is a Moonstone. Possibly has powers that either aids or disables wolves.
The 'Threes' could symbolise Derek's Triskelion or the Three points on the Alfa Pack's symbol
The "Oak" could possibly stand for the Mountain Ash Tree as it has a hold over those who are supernatural, metaphorically standing for something that is holding back the wolves
"Suture" means a row of stitches, so possibly something or someone being mended?
"Whistle" could refer to the calling of members to a pack like you would call a dog to it's owner(?) possibly the Alpha Pack or Derek recruiting new members.
"Beacon" could either mean a new light, hope, or actually "Beacon Hills". However, I'm not sure how this comes into play.
Finally, "Distillation" is the process of purifying a liquid by boiling it and condensing its vapours. Could this be metaphorical for purifying a person...or, to be more specific, a werewolf? Possibly a cure...or a breakthrough that not even Peter Hale knows about the werewolf kind.
