POLL: What did you think of Arrested Development?

  1. It took me a few episodes to get used to the Game of Thrones style POV chapter/episode telling, but in the end I really liked it. I'd say there's even more going on i the background than in previous seasons, possibly due to it all being made at once, so a re-watch is definitely on the cards.

  2. Overall I thought it was great, but it did start slowly.

It seemed at first that the actors timing and chemistry was off and the overall rhythm of the episode was different as well. Then as I watched more episodes and more of the process was revealed the episodes all grew on me. The early episodes I found slow were much funnier on second viewing after I knew this year's inside jokes and how everything connected.

I would still say that this format is not ideal for Arrested Development in my opinion.
AD is so incredible because of how the actors interact with one another, how they play off one another. This format by design had less regular cast (Bluth Family) interactions and suffered because of it.

The later episodes were stronger to me.... and maybe not coincidentally they had more cast interaction....

All that said, I loved watching the new episodes!
All the callbacks to old jokes (and callbacks to new jokes), seeing the cast in familiar roles and enjoying the narration of Ron Howard made Season 4 a lot of fun and just below "Awesome" to me.

  5. only 5 eps in but it;s great so far. Tobias ep was my fav so far, they killed me with the to catch a predator plot . I love the way everyone has there own centric ep yet there all connected.

  6. I'm about 1/3 through the season and so far it's excellent! This big, convoluted storyline has a lot of payoff and when they have that scene with Buster screaming in protest to Lucille and George getting divorced I almost choked it was so hilarious!

    I am done!

    SPOILER ALERT!!

What kind of resolution do we expect after this cliff hanger? Is it a movie? Because based on the crusterf@#( we saw... I think they will probably need another season!!

  8. Just finished watching it and overall I thought it was a very ambitious idea which occasionally didn't work but mostly did. It is all about the payoff and the slow build up of storylines and jokes which any casual viewer would be baffled by but then who is really a casual fan of AD?

My favourite parts usually included Tobias and Gob as I love those characters. This really does feel like one big set-up though to another season or promised movie and I hope we get it!

  9. Well I believe they always called this season Act one of a story and hopefully we will get that movie we have long been promised!

  10. I think I read somewhere that they had the idea in mind that this would be Act One, there'd be an Act Two, and then the movie would be Act Three.

  11. Only about a third of the way through but so far it's been just okay. Kristen Wiig as young Lucille is absolutely perfect though, she definitely studied for that role, where Seth Rogen just kind of showed up. I like that they've brought a lot of people back, got some pretty good guest roles (seen sets of people from The Office and Workaholics, and Dan Harmon!).

And as others have said, what made Arrested Development great was the interaction between all of the characters. So far (hopefully it changes as it keeps going) we've only seen minimal interaction between the cast. Hell I just watched the Tobias episode (hated it, but I hate Tobias) and saw GOB and realized I've barely seen Will Arnett.

  12. It was good, not great. This is gonna be said quite a lot, but there wasn't enough interaction with each member of the family. It was a good experiment doing POV episodes, but ultimately the interactions was what made the show great.

Still I enjoyed the inside jokes, and noticed a lot of the foreshadowing in earlier episodes to jokes later on (the india episodes especially, but I didn't see it coming that Maeby was the shaman lol).

I think if they had trimmed down some of the unnecessary stuff, and intercut between stories then it would have been more enjoyable.

Has anyone started listing the season 4 inside or running jokes?

Also, that ending!! Particularly, Buster's episode and the final episode's endings! I certainly hope that they can get another season or even a movie up and running. Just make sure every actor has more free time to do it! :-)

  13. Loved it! Like others have said it took a little getting use to the new format and seemed slower at first but then it really got going. When I rewatch I'll probably enjoy the episodes a lot more and notice a lot more of the jokes. I do agree with others about lack of interaction between the whole Bluth family but the individual POV format worked well in telling us what the character has been up to in the last few years. If they do another season or a movie hopefully we'll get more interactions between the whole family. With that being said we better get another season or movie especially with how they left things.

Wonder when they are going to post viewing or new subscription numbers. Curious to see how well they did.

  14. Good enough. And lots of fun. And personally, I thought that the way all the stories continuously intersected was quite clever. Sure, more Bluth family interactions would be preferable but shit, I'll take what I can get. These are busy people and I'm just too happy that we got more AD that I don't mind the POV shifts all that much.

  15. I just rewatched the first episodes, and found I laughed more the second time (and noticed a couple of recurring jokes like George Michael saying he "something searched" his name).
Also find I'm laughing at random stuff now that I'm not being so critical and can just enjoy the show, like in Lindsay's first POV episode when you can hear Tobias swear in the mansion - the bleep echoes as well haha

  16. As with most people, it took a while to get used to, but by the time Tobias's episode rolled around, I was not only hooked but really enjoying it.

It's different to the first three seasons, but IMO that's a good thing. It's a nu start. ANUSTART :)
