The clock may start ticking again on Fox. I’ve learned that the network is looking to bring back signature real-time drama 24 as a limited series. Kiefer Sutherland is in early talks to reprise his Emmy-winning role as Agent Jack Bauer. No deals are in place, but Fox is eying 24 as part of its recent push in limited event series. Since 24 ended its eight-season run on Fox in 2010, there has been an effort to continue the story as a feature, which ultimately didn’t take off. I hear the idea is to start from scratch with a new story arc that will likely be supervised by former 24 showrunner Howard Gordon, who is under a deal at 20th Century Fox TV. 24 is produced by 20th TV and studio-based Imagine TV.

wow, didn't see that one coming. Many surprises today, this along with The Carrie Diaries renewal and Nikita 6 to 10 episodes order is just... well, shocking!
ReplyDeletewow. i may start to watch this now. i haven't seen 24, but even i am excited about this. maybe i'll watch this limited series first and then go back and watch season 1-8!
ReplyDeleteThere is no longer a dead horse to beat...it's been buried since 2010. Is necromancy still frowned upon?
ReplyDeleteI did not see this one coming. What is going on today? I think Sutherland has dirt on Fox's executives...
ReplyDeleteDid not see this coming.
ReplyDeleteI think there must be a memo from FOX to other broadcast networks floating around out there that says:
ReplyDelete"Kiefer Sutherland is ours and you can't have him. We'll put Jack Bauer on Glee if that's what we have to do to keep him here, so you can all suck it."
Holy shit.
ReplyDeleteI did not see that coming. Kiefer is very much like Jack Bauer, quick to bounce back, Touch is cancelled for not even an hour that he's back on another TV show, and what a show it is.
If they had a story for a film, and if that film cannot get made, given that they kept repeating the story had to be condensed a whole lot to fit the 2-hour format, then this limited run is ideal. I'm on board with this "final season" plan.
Let's run scenarios : Jack is considered a terrorist by both the US and Russian governments, so he'll have to be hiding in a foreign country (to make it easier, real time-wise, let's say Mexico), and then discovered/hunted for some reason, he'll try to understand how they found him, and he'll try to clear his name.
Oh man, I'm a bit of a fanboy when it comes to 24, the show's last seasons may have lacked the inventivity of the first three seasons but I'd be thrilled to hear the clock back.
And Jonathan Andre, you MUST watch seasons 1-8 before watching season 9, it goes without saying.
This is fucking great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete'Touch is cancelled for not even an hour that he's back on another TV show '
ReplyDeleteTHIS!
exciting and surprising news!
Will be interesting see 24 back, but the end was so heartbreaking, I think Fox is desperate.
ReplyDeleteYou want a scenario? Just send Jack Bauer over to Homeland to catch Nick Brody.
ReplyDeleteSpot on! They just need to have Kiefer on the network, it's like he's their lucky charm (although not so luck with Touch - you'd think FOX wouldn't be in a hurry to stay in business with him, and less than an hour after the cancellation, they offer him a "new" show.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you...I don't care if it's limited, as long as Jack Bauer comes back to my tv, I'm happy :D
ReplyDeleteTHIS IS THE BEST NEWS EVER!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteDID NOT SEE THAT ONE COMING!!!!
BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT!!!!
BETTER THAN A MOVIE!!!!
CHUFFED TO BITS LETS CALL IT SEASON 9 WOOP WOOP!!!!
FOX isn't completely dumb. They know that even though Touch didn't work that Kiefer Sutherland has massive appeal as an actor and they will bend over backward to find a project that will keep him around.
ReplyDeleteThat's for sure. He has that pilot at NBC where he plays a psychopath or something, but it hasn't been picked up (yet, NBC still has to order a few pilots). But I see why, I think he's pretty charismatic and one may not like 24 but one cannot deny that Kiefer comitted to his role, he was (or, I guess, is) Jack Bauer.
ReplyDeleteOr what happened is that FOX didn't dare to tell Kief' they were canceling Touch. I imagine this happened :
Kevin Reilly : Hey Kiefer. You know, about Touch, we're gonna have to...
Kiefer (like Jack Bauer, screaming) : To what? You're gonna have to WHAT?! Tell me right now!!
Kevin Reilly : Hey, let's bring back 24!
Add in some groveling from Reilly and this could be quite accurate. :)
ReplyDeleteInteresting idea, but that would be over in 4 episodes (Jack's very efficient) and in fact, Nick and Jack are on the same side given how season 8 ended, actually, both are terrorists on the lamb.
ReplyDeleteBut thinking of a 24/Homeland crossover, I do want to see Jack yelling on Carrie for crying all the time. Plus, it's on Showtime so he won't have to say "damn it" and be a little more expansive, like "take your fucking pills and cut out on the whiny face!".
If they bring back 24, then I also want to see Prison Break return!! :D
ReplyDeleteYes to all of this. Have the feds pardon Jack so he can go after Brody. Jack can yell at Carrie until she's a sniveling puddle on the floor and he can also get right up close to Saul's face and have many intense conversations with him full of restrained anger. As an added bonus, there will also be plenty of awkward conversations between Carrie and Chloe. Those two will probably hate each other.
ReplyDeleteOMG Its christmas in May!!! And ya never know 'limited' could mean well lets do a 13 or 15 episode run and see how it goes! Man i love Kevin Reilly at Fox!
ReplyDeleteA Jack/Saul intense face off, like staring at each other with restrained anger, exactly, it's like you're reading my mind. I can't think of anything else now, I need to see that happen. And Chloe will be too busy trying to stop Dana from getting into trouble to be pissed off by Carrie's mood.
ReplyDeleteinteresting... I've been looking to a movie feature, but a mini series might be good
ReplyDeleteOh that would be wicked!
ReplyDeleteI love 24, hope this is correct. let the drinking games begin..again...Dammit :D
ReplyDeleteso I guess it won't continue off from season 8 but brand new start over.......I want to see Tony, Chole, Mandy, and Logan return as new character
ReplyDeleteOh Jonathan you must,it is awesome, epic, thrilling, action packed. And everything else you can think of,but never boring...
ReplyDeleteWOW! Does this ever happen?! --I hope this time there are bathroom breaks! :D
ReplyDeleteXD LOL!
ReplyDeletecool. i'll give season 1 a go. i tried season 1 late last year and i wasn't really feeling it, maybe some time away from it will do me good.
ReplyDeleteHaha bathroom breaks? Of all things, haha!
ReplyDeleteNow THAT is something to see...Carrie and Jack against the terrorist, just imagine :P
ReplyDeleteWhat? Wow, did not see this coming. Ummm, I'm in? Even when it wasn't at its best, I always watched and loved 24.
ReplyDeleteDamn it! Good news on the '24' subject? I can't believe it! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm unfamiliar with US TV jargon. What does 'limited series' mean? Is that another name for miniseries? I take it this means they are going to ditch the 24 hour format. Which to be fair it never was a 24 hour format really... since each episode is only 40 minutes without adverts, a 'day' in Jack Bauer's world is only actually 16 hours long :/
ReplyDeleteSo wait a new story arc as in everything in the original series never happened or as in they've created a different storyline than what they were going to do in the movie? I don't quite get what they mean by that... Regardless I'm still thrilled by this news.
ReplyDeleteYa! Jack Bower must have a "super" bladder, because not once in any 24 hr period did he stop to relieve himself! ;)
ReplyDeleteI don't even remember them ever eating?
ReplyDeleteHa! Ya I don't think they did that either! XD
ReplyDeleteHhmmm.... I'm gonna say no....
ReplyDeleteThere is a definite shift in how networks are now thinking.
ReplyDeleteI've got to say Mr. Reilly has been pretty great towards stuff he cares about!
ReplyDeleteIt would surely be nice to see another season of 24! :)
He sure has and since the cast and crew had a nice vacation away from it going back into 24 would be completely fresh.I could see a full season or at least a 15 episode run.....maybe twice a year????
