On Good Friday, Morgan spoke to me about Klaus’ love, flaws and The Originals backdoor pilot.
Klaus and Caroline (Candice Accola) are now officially “friends.” At this point, where are his head and heart when it comes to her?
Klaus is still very much enamored with her. Look, he felt he was dying and called Caroline. Not his sister. Not his brother. That says a lot about where he is in terms of his feelings towards her. We had that episode where Caroline was dying (Into the Wild) and she said, “I know you’re in love with me.” Klaus wants to believe he is, that he is someone capable of love. We’ll see how it plays out, but he’s definitely on board with the idea of being with her.
It sounds like Klaus is going a little soft.
A little soft? Not really, no. What is great is we’re getting to explore more of his vulnerable side, certainly in last night’s episode (American Gothic) where he believed he was dying. We absolutely got to explore some of that fear and vulnerability. The thing about Klaus is just as soon as you start to like him and believe he’s a better person, he goes out and slaughters 12 hybrids with a sword or kills someone’s mom. I believe until the end of this character, whenever that may be, I’ll continue to go through these cycles of vulnerability. He has his ups and downs, which is what makes him such a wonderful character to play.
Over the course of the series, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) transitioned from this coldhearted psychopath into a tortured antihero. Is the same possible with Klaus?
It would be nice if The Originals go to series, if it’s ultimately the story of Klaus’ redemption. But I wonder if anyone will really, truly forget about Aunt Jenna (Sara Canning) and the other people Klaus has put in the ground. He has a thousand years of murdering and doing what he wants to get his way. I wonder how quickly you can be redeemed for that. And redemption in whose eyes? I would like to think it is possible for him, but it’s going to take a little work.

"Klaus and Caroline are now officially “friends”" Interesting. After all he did to her and the people she loves (including Tyler she says she loves) she's "friends" with Klaus. But she still holds grudges against Damon for what happened in S1.
ReplyDelete"Where he believed he was dying. We absolutely got to explore some of that fear and vulnerability" Of course he was shocked and scared. For the first time in 1000 years he was afraid he might really die. He probably really believed that he was almighty, immortal and indestructible. Now someone showed up who is actually a threat to him. Of course he wasn't himself.
MF Scooby gang? Someone's a fan of Buffy.
Silas got inside Klaus head and manipulated him. Klaus didn't liked it. I wonder if he now thinks about the people he compelled and forced into doing thinks they didn't want to. Like forcing Ty into killing his own girlfriends. Or compelling Stefan into killing his girlfriend. At least he now knows how it feels to be powerless. I hope he learned something.
"He was always the child that was loved the least and his father’s least favorite. He was always struggling for his mother’s affections" Again people are looking for excuses for why Klaus is what he is. I hate to say it (I already said it 100 times), but many people go thru a lot of shit. Unloving parents, neglect, abuse (physical and psychical), bullying, … And they don't end up as mass murdering psychos. I get that he has a shitty childhood. He wasn't the first or the last. And it's no excuse for what he does. And one thing makes no sense. If his parents hated him (or disliked him), why keeping him? Back there (in that time and place) it was very easy to get rid of an unwanted child. Throw him in the river, leave him in the woods, … It's not like they didn't have other sons. Or that they were farmers and needed the child for work on the fields. And 1000 years ago no one cared if parents killed their unwanted children.
Damon raped and tortured Caroline, can't blame her for holding a grudge against him
ReplyDeleteYou got me wrong. Of course she has every right to be mad at Damon for what he did. What he did was wrong and of course I don't support that kind of behavior. What I meant was, that she's a hypocrite. She's still mad at Damon for what he did a year and a half ago (in MF time), but she has no problems with what Klaus is doing now? And although I can't approve what Damon did, I still think Klaus did way more horrible things. To Caroline and to everyone else in MF.
ReplyDeleteI apologise, I thought you were defending Damon and criticising Caroline for holding a grudge. I do agree she is a hypocrite, but who in MF isn't. They all have a warped sense of morality. The main characters kill when it suits them but if somebody else does the killing, they're considered evil. I still think Damon has been just as evil as Klaus to people in MF
ReplyDeleteOf course I'm glad that Damon managed to change so much in less than a year (in MF time). But I could never defend that he manipulated Caroline, raped her, fed on her, treated her like shit and only used her to get to Elena and Bonnie.
ReplyDeleteYes, one thing that is bothering me. When we say Caroline is holding "grudges" against Damon it only means, that she doesn't like him and she doesn't approve that Elena is dating him. But she never said anything. I mean, her "You suck" was practically the only reaction she had when she turned and his compulsion wore off. She didn't try to kill him (for what he did to her), she didn't even demanded an explanation or an apology (or maybe she did and I forgot). Not that she would get any. But she just acted like it never happened. She gave him the cold shoulder, that's pretty much it.
No, I think that Klaus is worse. I think, that Damon had his limits. For example he would never kill Carol, cause he couldn't find Ty. He probably wouldn't wipe out an entire family, cause Katerina messed with his plans and disappeared. Don't get me wrong, he was an ass and he had no problems in killing people. But he had his limits. Klaus doesn't. He says (or thinks) he loves Caroline? Then why did he tried to kill her just to hurt Ty (when he was locked in the Gilbert living room)?
the claim of rape is groundless and never is in anyway indicated or even confirmed by the Caroline. She did in fact sleep with him of her own accord that first time and he "compelled" her to not spill the beans he was a vamp or be afraid of that fact not to sleep with him.
