By the look of things online, ABC just can’t quite decide what to name its new Joss Whedon quasi-superhero action show.
First the title was S.H.I.E.L.D. And everybody was okay with that.
Then ABC revealed a new pilot title to advertisers via its ad sales website a couple weeks ago: Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. We heard that the change was due to a potential legal conflict with FX’s former cop series The Shield. But adding the Marvel studio name struck some (okay, us too) as kind of unnecessarily corporate-y. In any case, ABC would not confirm the new title nor the reason for the apparent change.
Now ABC has quietly changed the show’s official Facebook page from S.H.I.E.L.D. to … Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Ah-ha! More confirmation it’s now Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Yet the switch had some fans wondering if the studio branding was now going bye-bye. But no, we’re hearing “Marvel’s” will likely remain a part of the title regardless of what the social networking page says (and that, once again, the title may still change). So it’s all probably, as Whedon might say, much ado about nothing.

"due to a potential legal conflict with FX’s former cop series The Shield"
ReplyDeleteYou do not want to mess with Vic Mackey.
But still, S.H.I.E.L.D sounds so much classier than Agents of Shield. I bet everyone is still going to be calling it SHIELD, and I bet the opening sequence will feature "Shield" in much bigger font than "Agents of". And given the popularity of the Marvel universe, no one would have made the connexion with the amazing FX series.
Well, as long as it's on the air, the title doesn't matter. Still, I and everyone, I bet) will be calling it SHIELD.
Its getting to the point that i don't care what the title is going to be.In fact hearing about this so much its turning me off to the whole show...
ReplyDeletehah i agree nobody should mess with him, you dont want him a dirty cop after you :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should stop reading a site named 'spoiler TV' then...
ReplyDeleteI can already see the next news saying that the title was changed to "Marvel's Stan Lee's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D Created By Josh Whedon"
ReplyDeleteThe fact they are spending all this time on deciding on a name just means one thing, this show is getting picked up! Yay.
ReplyDeleteThat was a stupid comment.
ReplyDeleteBlaming the world for information you're actively seeking is borderline short bus behavior. No one is telling Laura3341 to look up SHIELD pre-production information. and she complains about hearing too much about it.
ReplyDeleteIf you can't understand something that simple, your barometer for stupidity is off simply by virtue that it's not constantly ringing by virtue of being attached tot you.
She wasn't talking about all the hype for the show, she was talking about the constant title changes.
