----------

-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Community” (NBC), “Parks and Recreation” (NBC), “Wife Swap” (ABC), “The Office (NBC), “Go On” (NBC), “The Mindy Project” (Fox)
----------
-Ratings Breakdown:
It was another easy Thursday overnight victory for CBS care of its combination of “The Big Bang Theory” (#1 for the evening: 10.8 rating/18 share), “Two and a Half Men” (#2), which the network is in conversations with Warner Bros. to bring back for an 11th season, “Person of Interest” (9.2/15) and “Elementary” (#1: 6.8/12). “Elementary,” of course, is officially renewed for next season, but a loss of 26 percent from the 9:30 p.m. portion of “Person of Interest” (9.2/15) and erosion of 13 percent from year-ago occupant “The Mentalist” (7.8/13 on 4/0/5/12) means a move to lower HUT level Friday is likely.
In series premiere news, NBC drama “Hannibal” finished a distant third at 10 p.m. with a 3.1/ 5 in the overnights. Comparably, this bested failed year-ago occupant “Awake” (2.1/ 4 on 4/05/12) by 48 percent. It built from a Thursday 9:30 p.m. edition of sitcom “Go On” (#4: 1.8/ 3) by 72 percent. And it held the audience at 9:30 p.m. So, all things considered, the “loser” label does not apply for “Hannibal” by any means. But since most new series drop in the vicinity of 10 to 20 percent in week two, this is not exactly a “winning” opening performance either.
As for the first of two Thursday 9:30 p.m. airings of Matthew Perry’s “Go On,” the cancellation clock should now be rapidly ticking.
Earlier in the evening on NBC were low-rated trio “Community” (#4: 2.1/ 3), “Parks and Recreation” (#4: 2.3/ 4) and soon-to-conclude “The Office” (#4: 2.7/ 4) from 8-9:30 p.m. At this point, NBC should announce one final shortened season of “Parks and Recreation” (a la recently concluded “30 Rock).
Over at ABC, recent returnee “Wife Swap” opened with a distant third-place 3.1/ 5 in the overnights at 8 p.m., followed by the compatible pairing of veteran “Grey’s Anatomy” (#2: 6.8/11), which built by five percent year-to-year, and sophomore “Scandal” (#2: 6.2/11), which held 91 percent of the “Grey’s” lead-in. Anticipate a first place time period finish among adults 18-49 for “Scandal.”
Elsewhere, Fox opened with the live “American Idol” Results Show (#2: 8.1/14 at 8 p.m.), which slid by 19 percent from the 10.0/17 one year earlier. And in place of regularly scheduled “Glee” were sitcoms “New Girl” (#3: 3.6/ 6) and “The Mindy Project” (#3: 2.5/ 4) from 9-10 p.m., which could have been a test for a potential hour of Thursday sitcoms on Fox next season.
The CW filled the night encores of “The Vampire Diaries” (#5: 0.8/ 1) and “Beauty and the Beast” (#5: 0.7/ 1).

I wish Hannibal drew more viewers. NBC should care on quality, not viewers on this one.
ReplyDeleteSo happy for Scandal! Never fails to deliver and hold an audience
ReplyDeleteNo, no, no! I love Go On! I don't want it to be cancelled! Really sad about this news.
ReplyDeleteMe too. :(
ReplyDeleteI think he's being overdramatic about Elementary. I don't think CBS is going to disrupt its current Friday. It was coming off a month of March Madness and against Hannibal, which had a lot of internet buzz and would have impacted Elementary more than Scandal. Also, Elementary gets a big bump in the final numbers and being on Thursday is beneficial in the whole +3 scheme of things. I don't know why he hates the show so much. Must be one of the Sherlock fans that troll it on Twitter.
ReplyDeleteNot bad numbers for Scandal, yay! Actually I think it's a little bit higher than last week. Might be 2.6 or 2.7 hopefully. And I thought Hannibal would debut with better numbers.
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed with POI holding steady despite these asinine breaks by CBS. Airing one episode every 4 weeks is no way to broadcast a show!
ReplyDeleteI need to see the final ratings for Hannibal, but I didn't expect them to be too good. I hope NBC realized it was premiering it against Scandal and Elementry, with terrible lead-ins and in a spot that they've failed to launch a new show for the past 4-5 years. I really hope Hannibal does better than the rest of the NBC shows (except for The Voice and Revolution obviously) and gets renewed and moved to a better night.
ReplyDeleteI think they're going to damage Elementary this way. POI is more established, but Elementary is new and still building an audience. Now there's Hannibal and Elementary is off another three weeks. Ridiculous. It sucks, because POI and Elementary make a great night of TV.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with Mark, I very much doubt CBS will move Elementary to Fridays when it is one of the highest rated 10pm shows on Broadcast TV, what an idiot
ReplyDeleteHannibal... Ouch. I hope NBC moves it to a different night, or was aware that Thursday at 10pm after 'Go On' was not going to be successful and a rating hit.
ReplyDeleteSo even after a ridiculous week after week breaks, POI wins the 9:00 P.M. time slot! Shows how stable the show is.
ReplyDeleteLooks bad for Hannibal...I had high hopes for that show, even higher hopes than I had for the following and it ended up disappointing me...It's nbc so they might be happy around 5 millions...
ReplyDeleteWow those are sad ratings for Hannibal considering it was its premiere episode and what I considered to be well written at the most part. I understand its gruesome material that some people would want to avoid but I thought the star power alone would bring in more viewers for NBC. Here's hoping good word of mouth will increase viewers otherwise NBC is down another promising new series.
ReplyDeleteGive the show a couple more episodes and see what the dvr numbers are like before it gets moved to a day and time which could possibly be worse..
ReplyDeleteNBC should move that annoying Rock Center back to Thursdays and let Hannibal have its time to shine on Friday nights after Grimm. NBC tried Grimm on a Thursday for one episode, but it didn't do much.
ReplyDeleteElementary isn't going anywhere. I don't think he hates the show he is just going by numbers, and since these are the early numbers that is what he has to work with.Don't bother paying attention to what he says, its not like he reads our comments anyway...
ReplyDeleteThose are really poor numbers for Hannibal.
ReplyDeleteI still don't get the 18-49 ratings :(
ReplyDeleteWhat don't you understand? It's how many people who are aged between 18 and 49 who watch the show.
ReplyDeleteactually it tied with the 8 or 9 year old Grey's and I'm willing to bet Grey's adjusts up as usual
ReplyDelete*sighs* I loved Hannibal a whole lot
ReplyDeleteAd agencies (who support TV shows with their ad money) target the 18-49 age group as that is the demographic supposedly shown to spend the most money on products. Younger than that and the parents are usually the supporters...older than that, folks are down sizing, not so much buying stuff anymore. A show that has large total numbers but a low 18-49 demo will always rate lower in the minds of the ad agencies than a similar show that has lower total numbers, but most are in that vaunted age demo...
ReplyDeleteLove Shondaland- 9 years in and Grey's is still pulling in awesome numbers- Scandal s just amazing!!! Thursday is such a competitive night actually its THE busiest night in tv- why Mindy Project and Go On were aired is crazy to me.
ReplyDeleteI object to taking in account only people from 18 to 49 age group.
ReplyDeleteAll the shows at 10 are single word titled.
ReplyDeleteSucks that Community, Parks & Rec, and Go On were lower, they're some of the best comedies out there.
ReplyDeleteI did love Hannibal! I really hope NBC gives it a go!!!
ReplyDeleteOh... right... I get it now. So TBBT had 16.80 million viewers and a 4.9. So that means that 4.9 million of those 16.8 million viewers are aged 18-49?
ReplyDeleteThe allure of the 18-49 age range is not necessarily about whether they spend more than the older demographics but that their spending habits are still influenced by ads. Older people are more set in their tastes and are less influenced by ads - they already have a favorite car company, insurance company, etc
ReplyDeleteYou going to have to take it up with the ad agencies.

ReplyDeleteAgreed. The pilot was great, I hope it doesn't end up like Do No Harm or Zero Hour.
