-Ratings Breakdown:
It was another midweek victory for Fox, but there was more double-digit erosion for tired “American Idol,” which scored a 7.9 rating/12 share in the overnights from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, that dipped by 31 percent from the 11.4/18 one year earlier. Unfortunately, grating Nicki Minaj is like the “Cousin Oliver” of “American Idol”!

In series premiere news, ABC sitcom “How to Live With Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life”) was positively sampled with a third-place 6.0/ 9 at 9:30 p.m. Comparably, that held 79 percent of its “Modern Family” lead-in (#2: 7.6/12 at 9 p.m.) and this was 54 percent above week-ago occupant “Suburgatory” (3.9/ 6 on March 27, which held only 57 percent of the “Modern Family” overnights). The retention for “How to Live With Your Parents,” in addition, was better than the 64 percent for the preview of “The Neighbors” in this time period last fall (6.5/10 out of a 10.2/16 for “Modern Family” on 9/26/12). One year earlier, “Happy Endings” (out of an encore of “Modern Family”) could only muster a 3.0/ 5.

Despite the improved lead-in support, on-the-fence freshman drama “Nashville” dipped to third at 10 p.m. with a 4.1/ 7.

Earlier in the evening on ABC was underrated “The Middle” at a third-place 5.4/ 9 at 8 p.m. into a 4.4/ 7 (#4) for relocated “Suburgatory” at 8:30 p.m.

On CBS, “Survivor: Caramoan” opened with a second-place 6.1/10, which was on par with the “One World” edition on the year-ago evening. Last night, “Survivor” trailed the first hour of “American Idol” (7.7/12) by 21 percent (versus 43 percent just last year).

Leading out of “Survivor” was “Criminal Minds” at a below average 6.9/11 at 9 p.m. (#3: - 7 percent from one year earlier), followed by granddaddy “CSI” at a dominant 6.6/12 at 10 p.m. (-17 percent).

Elsewhere, “Dateline” scored the top overnights in the Wednesday 8 p.m. for NBC (#4, 4.3/ 7) since “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” on 11/28/12. With improved lead-in support, “Law & Order: SVU” perked up to a 5.0/ 8 at 9 p.m. – its best overnight performance since February 13. At 10 p.m., “Chicago Fire” capped off the night for the Peacock net with a second-place 4.7/ 8, which remains perfectly compatible out of “SVU.”

The CW, meanwhile, remained on the map care of “Arrow” (#5: 2.2/ 3 at 8 p.m.), which increased from year-ago occupant “One Tree Hill” (1.2/ 2 on 4/04/12) by a hefty 83 percent. Next was “Supernatural” at a typical 1.5/ 2 (#5) in the overnights at 9 p.m.

About the Daily Ratings

Each day (except Sunday) we post the TV Ratings for the previous night.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below)
