Clean Sweep for CBS; “Glee” Slips on Fox

Metered Market Results
Household
Rating/Share
CBS 8.0/13
Fox 5.8/ 9
ABC 5.0/ 8
NBC 2.0/ 3
CW 1.4/ 2
———-
-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Thursday 4/27/12:
CBS: + 4, CW: -12, ABC: -14, NBC: -17, Fox: -21
———-
-Winners:
“The Big Bang Theory” (CBS), “Two and a Half Men” (CBS), “American Idol” (Fox), “Person of Interest” (CBS), “Grey’s Anatomy” (ABC), “Scandal” (ABC)
-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Community” (NBC), “Wife Swap” (ABC), “The Office” (NBC), “Parks and Recreation” (NBC), “Glee” (Fox), “Beauty and the Beast” (CW), “Hannibal” (NBC)
———-
-Ratings Breakdown:
It was a clean overnight Thursday sweep for CBS care of its combination of “The Big Bang Theory” (#1 for the evening: 9.9 rating/16 share), “Two and a Half Men” (7.6/12), “Person of Interest” (8.6/13) and “Elementary” (6.7/11), which dropped by 14 percent from year-ago occupant “The Mentalist” (7.8/13 on 4/26/12). Chances are the Eye net will move “Elementary” to either Friday or Sunday to make room for a new drama that can benefit next season out of “Person of Interest.”
The live “American Idol” Results Show on Fox finished second overall from 8-9 p.m., with an 8.0/13 in the overnights. Year-to-year, that was down by 25 percent (versus a 10.6/17 on 4/26/12). Next was just renewed “Glee,” which slipped to a distant third with a 3.3/ 5 at 9 p.m. Comparably, “Glee” was 20 percent below year year-ago occupant “Touch” (4.1/ 6 on 4/26/12), which benefited out of the then stronger “Idol” lead-in support. And the retention out of the 8:30 p.m. portion of “Idol” (8.5/14) was a mere 39 percent. That said, was it really necessary to renew fading “Glee” for two more seasons?
Over at ABC, 8 p.m. time period filler “Wife Swap” sunk to a season low 2.8/ 4, which probably means at this point the network will give it a well needed rest. Next was old faithful “Grey’s Anatomy,” which perked up to second with a 6.2/10 from 9-10 p.m. (121 percent ahead of lead-in “Wife Swap”). And compatible “Scandal,” which is poised for time period dominance among adults 18-49, scored a 5.9/10 at 10 p.m. Retention for “Scandal” out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of “Grey’s Anatomy” (6.3/10) was a solid 94 percent.
Elsewhere, NBC could not compete with its line-up of “Community” (#4: 2.0/ 3), a repeat of “The Office” (#4: 1.6/ 3), the regularly scheduled edition of soon-to-conclude “The Office” (#4: 2.7/ 4), “Parks and Recreation” (#4: 2.2/ 3) and recent drama entry “Hannibal,” which sunk to a series-low 1.9/ 3 at 10 p.m. Comparably, “Hannibal” was only equal to failed year-ago occupant “Awake.”
And The CW closed the night with demo friendly “The Vampire Diaries” (#5: 1.8/ 3) and struggling “Beauty and the Beast” (#5: 1.0/ 2), which was off by nine percent from failed year-ago occupant “The Secret Circle” (1.1/ 2 on 4/26/12).
In late night, it was David Letterman’s turn to dominate the 11:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m. daypart in the overnights, with a 2.5/ 7. Comparably, that was 14 percent below the year-ago evening. Next was Jay Leno on NBC with a 2.3/ 6 (equal to one year earlier), followed by Jimmy Kimmel on ABC at a 2.2/ 6.
Jimmy Fallon on NBC and Craig Ferguson on CBS tied for first in the 12:30-1:30 a.m. block, each with a 1.2/ 4. And “Nightline” on ABC scored a 1.3/ 4 in the 12:30 a.m. half-hour. Carson Daly on NBC capped off the night with a 0.7/ 3 at 1:30 a.m.

Woah. Hannibal took a dive! I'm surprised. Thought it has been very good so far. Is this people retaliating for the lack of episode 4??
ReplyDeleteIt's possible, DarthLocke4. :(
ReplyDeleteHannibal, nooooooo! I was so worried this week with new episodes of Scandal and Elementary, especially after the huge dip with episode 3. God help you NBC, if you cancel this show because you suck at scheduling.
ReplyDelete1.0/2 for BatB I wonder what the demo will be? HoD had a .4 this week with a 1.1/2, and was TSC at a .5 this time last year?
ReplyDeleteI was hoping for a little better numbers for Scandal. It's not really bad, probably end up with 2.6(hopefully) but this episode was really great.
ReplyDeleteDamn Hannibal :( but happy about Person of Interest!
ReplyDeleteHannibal doesn't deserve this, dammit!
ReplyDeleteOh so sweet Person Of Interest!!!!
ReplyDeletewhattt noooo batb go up pleaseee go up
ReplyDeletePerson of interest must be example how a drama should be written and acted. Best scripted show on TV - broadcast and cable. John Reese is bigger and better than James Bond. He is Reese, Mr. Reese.
ReplyDeleteHappy for PoI. Next season #1 CBS and broadcasr drama. The whole HR part of the show is utter brilliance from Nolan/Abrams. It is very dark and gloomy. It is a nice contrast to some of the lighter situations with Fince & Fusco. The Elias character is OUTSTANDING & Root is creepy. There really is just so much to like about POI. Hope news about spinoff are near us.
ReplyDelete0.9 for TVD, noo :( hope it adjusts up
ReplyDeleteOuch, isn't that for the Originals backdoor pilot?
ReplyDeleteRatings look absolutely horrible on all networks
ReplyDeleteYeah. Crazy right. But if the originals could garner a .9 season average next year, I'd say that's an improvement.
ReplyDeletenot so good rating. Half hours were 2.5 and 2.3. Spring time not good for POI
ReplyDeleteYeah, the CW better hope Thursdays performs similarly to the Arrow/Supernatural pairing
ReplyDeletespring is bad for all shows. Last night was and NFL draft which hit males who watch crime shows
ReplyDeleteHannibal is officially another victim of the Boston bombing...
ReplyDeleteNBC did that.
ReplyDeleteBecause of the NFL draft.
ReplyDeleteIts spring, more people are out doing things,so they dvr the show, see it online or On Demand. When the Live and the +7 comes out it will be higher.POI is doing fine.
ReplyDeleteouch!! it was a bad thursday for CW... :(
ReplyDeletePOI is 2.4 according to tvbythenumbers. That's series low! Damn! Last night episode was great! Hope it will hit series high next week ;)
ReplyDeleteEvery day except for Wednesdays are bad for CW.
ReplyDeleteTvbythenumbers has PoI as a 2.4 18-49 which is right?
ReplyDeleteWait, did Scandal just rise above Greys in 18-49 ratings?
ReplyDeletelol!!, OK, but VD usually has the best numbers of the week, that's why I said it.
ReplyDeleteJeez, what happened last night? Some horrible ratings for some shows.
ReplyDeleteYeah.
ReplyDeleteWow, wow, so happy for Scandal! But how did that happen? I mean numbers Marc Berman posted doesn't doesn't seem to be that good. The good news is that Scandal started on time(10pm) so it shouldn't be adjusted down in grey's favour.
ReplyDeleteDon't know why Beauty & The Beast is so low it's one great show !! Hoping they give the show a second season !!
ReplyDeleteApparently yes ,but we need to wait for the finals to know for sure. It has had happened in the past in preliminaries but then changed in finals.
ReplyDeleteExcept for Scandal and also Grey's.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the number is that meaningful in itself. The show should still move forward IMO.
ReplyDelete2.0 to elementary ??? Not good :/
ReplyDeleteI love the show, but to say that you are happy about its ratings today when it just hit its season (possibly series, not sure) low is not coherent at all.
ReplyDeleteIt hit its season high and was the only champion from last night, it is the only show that aired last night that exceeded expectations ;)
ReplyDeleteI think it's safe to say we'll see a Thursday of TVD\The Originals next year. I plan to watch both shows.
ReplyDeleteYeah.
ReplyDeleteLove that Scandal was #1 Drama for that Night
ReplyDeleteMarc is just being biased. Scandal had a very good performance this season.
ReplyDeletealready renewed
ReplyDeletehow is he being biased?
ReplyDeleteHe's constantly shading certain shows even when some of them are doing relatively okay. It's his opinion of course.
ReplyDeleteYea you don't mess with the NFL draft.
ReplyDeleteWhere are the finals usually posted?
ReplyDeleteI think here they post them around 10 pm GMT.
ReplyDeleteScandal <3
ReplyDeleteok im confused ive seen several articles that have said Grey's Anatomy won the night against POI.
ReplyDeleteI know it's renewed already.. But to think that CBS can move the show to sunday or friday.. this is not good at all...
ReplyDeletethe best show of all time..all hail POI...
ReplyDeleteIt did. Grey's had a 2.7 18-49 rating whereas POI had a 2.4 18-49 rating. This rating looks only at the number of people between the ages of 18 and 49 that watched the show and, like it or not, this is the rating in which advertisers base how much they pay the netwoks for the adds they play during the show. In other words, it is the relevant rating when it comes to renewal prospects. So, yes, Grey's won the night against POI. However, POI had more total viewers (13.22 against 8.24), but that is irrelevant when it comes to winning the night.
ReplyDeleteThis! So proud of the show!
ReplyDeleteMe too. It was actually also the number #1 drama of the week, tied with NCIS at 8pm Tuesdays. Just wow!
ReplyDeleteahh thanks for the clarification
ReplyDeleteno problm
ReplyDeleteHannibal is on its way to cancellation based on this ratings alone. :( :( :(
ReplyDeleteHannibal :-(((((((( NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
ReplyDeleteYeah it certainly isn't very good news for the show. I think CBS would be wise to send it to sundays or fridays. We'll see.
