----------

-Winners:
“The Voice” (NBC), “Dancing With the Stars” (ABC), “Castle” (ABC)

-Losers (excluding repeats):

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
ABC topped this fourth Monday in April in the overnights, with a 26 percent advantage over second-place NBC. But the home of “The Voice” will clearly rule among adults 18-49 (and other key young adult demos). And year-to-year, NBC increased by 26 percent overall for the night while ABC was down by 19 percent. “Dancing With the Stars” is still a force, but “The Voice” is a much hotter show.

“Dancing With the Stars” won the 8-10 p.m. block in the overnights with a 9.7 rating/15 share, which was 10 percent above competing “The Voice” (8.8/13). But, year-to-year, “The Voice” rose by a hefty 40 percent (versus a 6.3/ 9 on 4/23/12). And “Dancing With the Stars” dipped by 24 percent (versus a 12.8/19). Keep in mind that both faced all repeats on CBS, which is no longer the Monday competitor it once was.

Tops in the overnights at 10 p.m. was “Castle” on ABC with a 7.8/13, which bested competing “Revolution” on NBC (#2: 4.0/ 7) by 95 percent. And the retention for “Castle” out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of “Dancing With the Stars” (10.1/15) was respectable at 77 percent. But “Revolution” is still the show to beat in the time period among adults 18-49 (which included a repeat of “Hawaii Five-O” on CBS at a 3.5/ 6).

Third overall for the evening was Fox with its perfectly compatible combination of veteran “Bones” and freshman “The Following” each at a 4.7/ 7 in the overnights.

Elsewhere, aforementioned CBS populated the evening with encores of “How I Met Your Mother” (#4: 3.0/ 5), “Rules of Engagement” (#4: 3.5/ 5), “2 Broke Girls” (#4: 3.8/ 6), “Mike & Molly” (#4: 3.8/ 6) and “Hawaii Five-O” (#3: 3.5/ 6). Of the five, only “Rules of Engagement” has not been officially renewed for next season. And The CW could compete with the revamped pairing of game show returnee “Oh Sit!” (#5: 0.6/ 1) and soon-to-conclude “90210” (#5: 0.5/ 1). Needless to say, there was no reason to bring back “Oh Sit!” for a second season.

About the Daily Ratings

Each day (except Sunday) we post the TV Ratings for the previous night.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below)

  1. The Following matching Bones? I don't know if it's a good or a bad thing (:

  2. I'd wait until the demo is released, Marc usually focus on total numbers of the evening which is why 'Castle' has been on the winners lists for a while. Before some random idiot down votes me I AM a Castle fan, just being pragmatic when it comes to its ratings.

Is a #2 and 4.0/7 good for Revolution? Marc's postings confuse the hell outta me!

  3. Now you'll probably get down voted for saying that! Can't win sometimes~! :)

    ReplyDelete
  4. LOL probably! But got 2 votes up already and 0 votes down, good start :P

    @Mods
Anyway to stop these obvious spammers down voting people randomly? It's getting very annoying.

  5. I agree, I have been complaining about the down votes for a while now

  6. I was trying to give you a head start by the up vote. :) Whenever i say that i always get down votes. But i realized over time i must have some very special friends for i'm down voted so often, even if i say the sky is blue.Oh to be so loved,ha!! It was better when we didn't have it,if people disagreed with you at least we discussed it.Now you get down voted just because you might not like a certain actor.

Many people have asked to have that button removed or turned off but i don't believe its possible, its not DarkUFO's program, its belongs to Disqus. You can let them know how you feel about it,like so many of us have.

That's not saying much since it's usually last unless it's TVD sometimes.

  9. Revolution is a 2.2 in the demo, even with its last original. An impressive jump for The Following, up THREE TENTHS from 2.1 to 2.4!

  10. DWTS wull probably get adjusted up as it always is. Hoping for no adjustments for Castle. Im glad about its stability.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Thats an awesome rating for Castle! although there is less competition, think would have got 2.2 anyways:)

  12. With a HIMYM repeat, ROI has set a new low for CBS.

  13. "Tops in the overnights at 10 p.m. was “Castle” on ABC with a 7.8/13, which bested competing “Revolution” on NBC (#2: 4.0/ 7) by 95 percent"====> i'm not familiar with this rating calculation, where did the 95% come from? and what's the meaning of 7.8/13 and 4.0/7? thanks in advance:)

  14. What is the holdup with Revolution's renewal? Are they seriously just waiting to see what the ratings will be like next week before they make a decision?

  15. Eidnoreid Pills23 April 2013 at 17:31

It's not just that. NBC just hasn't done it yet for whatever reason is holding them up.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Not all shows on the CW are bad. Generalization of the network as a teenager channel or poor quality channel and lack of promos are the reasons it usually is last, along with the channel not always being available to everyone.

  17. THR has Revolution at 3.9 with 11.3 million. 19-49....and Castle with 2.2 with 12.96 million.I think i rather wait till later in the day for numbers...

    ReplyDelete
  18. THR just came out with late numbers, Revolution is up 3.9 and 11.3 million.

    ReplyDelete
  19. THR must have mis-typed it. No way it got 3.9. It got a 2.2 :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. @laura3341 Those numbers from THR are woefully wrong sorry.

  21. I said it when Revolution's first steps were made... This Show should be a 13-Episodes long for the Season...

When you put a serialized show with 24 episodes it tends to lose people on the way 'cause of the filler episodes and the i-can't-lose-an-episode thing... These shows work better with compressed Seasons.

When NBC ask for a back-9 for this show i knew they've made a huge mistake... Well, now they're paying it. A 5 years long show is beating a fresh-one.

I think there's just too many shows now and people can't make time to watch all of them(with or without DVR)... I, myself, had to put a lot of shows on hold up 'cause i didn't had time. But year after year, they launch new shows that are doing pretty horrible acording to the old-shows first Seasons.

Some established shows must end so people can use that time to invest on other show. For example, "What's gonna happend with HIMYM's audience when it's gone?" Then you launch a show targeting that same audience.

Now we have two types of new shows: The ones with bad ratings(A bunch of shows), the ones with bad ratings according to old shows first Seasons(Elementary, wich i love!) and the ones that are lead-in dependant(Go On, for example, wich i love too).

  22. Oh what a bummer,i should have known..thanks Andy!

  23. Normally i never check i just happened to see it today....oh well,never again,ha!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yesss Castle is the best show ever!! so proud to be a fan and the ratings this season are amazing, i´m so happy

    ReplyDelete
  25. Out of our control. Email Disqus and tell them. Only if enough people complain to them directly will anything be done.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Some shows indeed do better with compressed 13 episode seasons, but that's not the major cause why Revolution isn't doing well. The 3 month hiatus that NBC put it on was the huge mistake. You can't do that with serialized shows because people forget what happened in the last episode and then all bets are off. NBC was really stupid (what else is new) to do that to its highest rated prime time drams. Especially just to air Deception, which I'm pretty sure has been canceled. So in the end, they could lose both shows. Yep, not a very smart strategy.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Given how it's rating have gone down since it came back, they're probably waiting a little while. However, it's NBC, so shows with lousy ratings can get renewed a lot easier.
