Today's Early Overnight Ratings

This table shows the early overnight ratings. These ratings are normally adjusted later in the day when all the ratings have been consolidated to take into account any local preemptions and/or overruns. You can find all the final adjusted numbers in our Ratings Database. (See the About section below for details about ratings)

Early Ratings Analysis

The analysis below is based on the early household numbers and are NOT the same as the numbers that will be posted in the above table later. (See the About section below)

For more information on the Nielsen Ratings see this Wikipedia Entry.

Metered Market Tuesday Ratings
"Ready For Love" DOA on NBC

Tuesday 4/09/13
Metered Market Results

Household
Rating/Share
CBS 8.4/14
ABC 6.3/10
NBC 4.8/ 8
Fox 3.1/ 5
CW 0.8/ 1

----------

-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Tuesday 4/11/12:
NBC: + 9, CW: no change, CBS: - 3, ABC: -12, Fox: -24

----------

-Winners:
"NCIS" (CBS), "The Voice" (NBC), "Dancing With the Stars" (ABC), "NCIS: Los Angeles" (CBS)

-Losers (excluding repeats):
"Splash" (ABC), "Hart of Dixie" (CW), "Ready For Love" (NBC), "The Mindy Project" (Fox), "Golden Boy" (CBS)

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS led this second Tuesday in April care of the combination of "NCIS" (#1 for the evening: 11.1 rating/18 share) and spin-off "NCIS: Los Angeles" (#2: 9.0/14) from 8-10 p.m. But recent entry "Golden Boy," which is waiting for the axe to officially swing, dipped to second at 10 p.m. with a 5.4/ 9. Comparably, that trailed year-ago occupant "Unforgettable" (6.2/10 on 4/10/12) by 13 percent, with retention out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of "NCIS: Los Angeles" (8.9/14) of 60 percent. As a reminder, "Unforgettable" returns on CBS with original episodes this summer.

In series-premiere news, the two-hour debut of NBC dating/relationship series "Ready for Love," hosted by Bill and Giuliana Rancic, was not ready for an audience with a mere 2.8/ 5 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, this trailed the year-ago combination of "The Voice" (5.9/ 8 on 4/10/12) and "Fashion Star" (3.1/ 5) by 38 percent, with retention out of the 8:30 p.m. portion of lead-in "The Voice" (9.1/14) of just 31 percent. Viewers, needless to say, are not necessarily interested in this type of show unless the name is "The Bachelor" or "The Bachelorette."

"The Voice," meanwhile, ranked second in the overnights behind "NCIS," with an 8.8/14 from 8-9 p.m. And that, of course, will hold a huge advantage among adults 18-49 (and other young adult demos).

Over at ABC, the live "Dancing With the Stars" Results Show was the standout, with a dominant 9.1/14 at 9 p.m. But the ranking among adults 18-49 is expected to be a distant third. Comparably, "Dancing With the Stars" built out of the 8:30 p.m. portion of lead-in "Splash" (3.7/ 6) by 146 percent. Overall, week four of "Splash" dipped to a series-low 3.6/ 6 in the 8 p.m. hour, which was, on average, 12 percent below the year-ago combination of sitcoms "Last Man Standing" (4.6/ 7 on 4/10/12) and "Cougar Town" (3.6/ 6). Four-week overnight track for "Splash": 6.4/10 - 4.7/ 8 - 4.3/ 7 - 3.6/ 6.

At 10 p.m., "Body of Proof" capped off the evening for ABC with a dominant 6.1/11. But the ongoing older skew may not bode well for a renewal for next season.

Elsewhere, Fox had nothing unusual to report with its line-up of demo friendly "Hell's Kitchen" (#4: 3.5/ 6 at 8 p.m.) and 9-10 p.m. sitcoms "New Girl" (#3: 3.2/ 5) and "The Mindy Project" (#4: 2.2/ 3). And The CW aired on-the-fence sophomore drama "Hart of Dixie" (#4: 1.0/ 2), which on a stronger network would not stand a chance of being renewed, and an encore of "America's Next Top Model" (#5: 0.5/ 1).

About the Daily Ratings

Each day (except Sunday) we post the TV Ratings for the previous night.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below)

  1. Terrible is an understatement for Ready for Love! NBC: It's not too late to put SVU/Chicago Fire on Tuesdays when CF deserves to have a Voice-lead in more than RFL!

  2. Poor NCIS. The Voice is destroying its numbers again.

  3. I'm so glad Ready for Crap has flopped. :)

  4. Quick solution:
Immediately move Grimm after The Voice Tuesdays and follow it by Hannibal. Two shows that are actually compatible and can stand on their own. Let Ready For Love burn off on Fridays with Fashion Star, again, another compatible pairing.
    YOUR WELCOME!

  11. Get rid of Golden Boy and bring back CSI NY!

  12. I would hardly say NCIS is getting destroyed with over 16 million people watching.Don't forget the dvr numbers haven't been factored in either, aside from the people who watch it online... In the spring with warmer whether it always goes down a bit,but it certainly isn't getting destroyed..

  13. I like Ready For Love more than The Bachelor which I could do without. That sucks for my knew favorite show NCIS LA!

  14. both will be cancelled

  15. Considerable drop on NCIS ratings. But,well... still better than everyone else's ratings, so I wouldn't get too worried.

  16. I really like Golden Boy. I wish more people would give it a chance.
