Great moments with this one, first: Fusco confesses to Carter, second: Signal corrupted ... fatal error ... primary operations shutting down..... uh-oh! and other Carter walk with Bear leaving traces of snow back.
Signal corrupted ... fatal error ... primary operations shutting down..... and the Machine goes offline !!!! Great episode but the ending was a major twist !!!
This was my very close second, as I have a soft spot for the Bear scenes, but I went with the Fusco confession scene because it was so nice to see Lionel vulnerable, and the actor (I regret to say I can't remember his name) nailed it, I thought.
I have to go with Carter walking away with Bear revealing who moved Stills' body! I mean the scene where Fusco is forced to go the site and Still's body was already priceless, but this scene just made that scene so much more incredible!
I have to admit that was probably a superior scene. Kevin Chapman who plays Fusco and Taraji Henson who plays Carter both really nailed that scene. Fusco's admission had the perfect amount of guilt and remorse while Carter had the perfect amount of surprise, denial, and righteousness.
Yes, I liked Nelson's passing, as well, a melancholic, tonally bleak scene, with the stark trees and snow in the background; well shot. LOTS of good scenes, this episode!
I almost picked all of them but...the machine rebooting (or...{quelle horreur} shutting down), Lionel's confession to Carter, Nelson saying good-bye to his daughter, and finding out who dug the hole.
Thought i would find you here! Trying hard not to read what you and others have written,i haven't seen it yet...Last night while watching the news about the bombers trying to get to Times Square to set off another bomb the reporter was doing a story about all the cameras that are located in that area. Then the news showed us the control room and on the monitors you see the people walking by and the cars but you also see them outlined in boxes in all shapes and sizes just like in the beginning of the show when the machine is keeping track of everyone...It never even dawned on me that that could be real,i thought they made it up. It was quite interesting really watching these monitors acting like "The Machine."
Ya, more frightening stuff continues with this terrorist attack. Luckily their car ran out of gas and the hostage-driver got away!
There are some really nice articles from before the show aired from J. Nolan and M. Emerson about how the show was more grounded in reality, then science fiction. That it's really more "hyper real". I think it's one reason it's doing so well, because for what ever reason science fiction tends to come with a stigma of "unrelatable" (or unrealistic), so I think because of that general bias, it's easier for the masses to get on board with something that is very much like the actual world we live in.
Harsh no, condescending yes. I know how the world works especially after 9/11,i just didn't expect it to look exactly the same. And i know about all the cameras and the extra security that are around,i live in New York, and i lived in NYC for 3 years. I also had a birds eye view of the towers that day.
I loved the final sequence of it all shutting down but I gotta give it to Carter & Bear walking out of the precinct and making us realize that she was the one who saved Fusco'ass! It gave me chills! Just incredible! Go Detective Carter!
@laura3341, Okay I don't mean to sound harsh but really? Did you actually believe for a second that all of the things that happen on this show are fake? You realize that much of the inspiration from this show comes from a post-9/11 world right? So it makes perfect sense that all of the aspects of the age of communication and monitoring are real. Every single thing we post online is being watched by someone. Now a days it's hard to go to a public place or store that doesn't have cameras. The only aspects of POI that aren't realistic or real are the number of times that the main characters escape death due to sheer luck, other than that everything else is spot on.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteGotta go with Carter walking away with Bear after she dug up the hole. The look of agony in her face was heartbreaking.

ReplyDeleteThis!
ReplyDeleteI so agree with you! The scene in which she walks out and we realize it was her who saved his ass gave me chills, greatly done!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely qualifies as game changer!
ReplyDeleteCarter & Bear walking out of the precinct at the end. OMG!
