I loved it so much! Big Brother!Dean and Sick!Sam is all I ever wanted. And then we got another hug! And alskdfjas;ldkfjas;lkdf.
Aww, poor Charlie. The end was so sad. And are you happy now that Dean didn't hug cheat on Sam with her? Sam hugged her too. And aww at the "I love you" and the "I know" lines. So cute!
I hope Charlie comes back eventually. Loved this episode!
Don't have enough ''I told you so'' for everyone who said Sam wasn't gonna be in the episode at all ;P
Loved it a lot more I tought I would :) Wasn't sold on Charlie, but now I want her back. Maybe not too often, somewhere mid-season next year would be good :)
I'm just happy that Sam hugged Charlie too because of all the people who were upset Dean was hug cheating on his brother. And Sam got a hug too and neither of them died this time, so yay!
OMG I loved it! I enjoyed this episode more than any since the beginning. It hit me close to home. The parts with Dean & Charlie were so moving. And love that both Sam & Dean were proactive and important to the success. Even though Dean & Sam were separated, they were so close emotionally and linked like the old days. I do dread the canon massacre to come though...
Awesome is such a limited word to express the greatness of this episode. It exceeded my expectations SO MUCH.There is absolutely nothing I didn't like.OH THE BROTHERLY FEELS <3 THE HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUG <3
Don't be like that. I'm making the difference between ''Concerns'' (I had my concerns) and judging/bashing the whole episode before it aired. Not same thing.
Oddly enough, I did not hate this episode. I really didn't think I would like it b/c I'm not a Charlie fan, but it wasn't horrible to me. Out of all the Charlie episodes, I liked this one the best. Now, I don't think it was awesome or great, but it was a solid episode. My adjective would be "good." Haha!! Thankfully, Sam was NOT sidelined as he usually is, which was surprising. I actually don't have much to say about it. I hated the montage and the ending scene w/Charlie at the hospital, but that didn't ruin the episode for me or anything. I thought it was good. As someone else pointed out, it was mainly filler and didn't wreck canon or further assassinate the characters so that's a plus!
I think it may be the monsters evolving faster than the hunters can mine data. Wouldn't it be great if Crowley could change all the monsters just a little bit to really screw with the hunters?
I'm with you! My jaw dropped that Sam was permitted to interact w/Charlie. I honestly expected him to be sidelined, so that was a nice surprise. Who wrote this episode?
I judged/bashed this episode before it aired. What's the problem w/that? Don't we all do that we watch previews or trailers to movies? It's natural. People watch movies or episodes based on the trailers/previews. I don't see anything odd about that. The episode wasn't horrible like I thought it would be, and I am not ashamed to say that. And I don't feel like I should feel bad for thinking it was going to be bad. Haha! Personally, I think the rest of the season is going to suck. And that's based on what I've seen. Now, if I'm wrong, then that's great. I'll be happy if the show goes above my expectations, which are in the gutter at this point!
I enjoyed the episode for the pure pleasure of it. It was old Sam and Dean, only better. I love the maturity. I adored the final hug between the two...Dean knowing it has to happen and telling Sam let's go find the prophet. This is Jeremy Carver at his best. He is clearly the show runner they needed. It just took time to clean up the mess from season 6 and 7. He had to drag us through the mire to find the gold beyond. We've found it.
I know that people have mixed feelings across the board for Charlie, but I really enjoyed this episode. It was nice to see them utilize her in an actual helpful capacity - it didn't just seem like she was along for the ride this time. I wouldn't mind seeing her every now and again next season.
I was surprised by the movement we saw in the trial arc, too. Nothing earth shattering, necessarily, but Sam is clearly more affected than he has been... and he's finally owning up to the fact that he isn't firing on all cylinders. But I love that we got back to big brother Dean looking after Sammy, and that he showed some growth at the end when he basically told Sam (without using words, of course, no chick flick moments) that he realizes he's an adult that should have a say in what he can and can't do... not that Dean won't be watching like a hawk, haha... some things you just can't shake. And I'm glad.
Looking forward to (and also equally scared of) this final trial!
I am actually NOT going to read a single solitary review or reaction to this episode. Nope...for the first time in a long, long, LONG time, I actually enjoyed an episode...and I even hate Charlie. LOL. So I'm going to pretend that everyone else liked it, too...and I'm going to run off until next week. It is SO rare for me to not feel like ripping my hair out after an episode, that I'm going to enjoy this one. It wasn't perfect, but it was fun. And it entertained me.
I LOVED IT! not hate here it was good it was sad to see charlie had to let go of her mom but that was a big wink wink to dean about letting go but he said no to that but it was good but still I fear this will end badly the last 3 eps for sam god he is getting weaker and weaker its bad but hell who know whats going to happen. and god with all the hugs there was alot that was cool I do hope she comes back next season I kind of like her.
Sad, simple and powerful episode of Supernatural. This episode make love even more Charlie's character. And the dynamic between her and the Winchesters is always great.
I loved that small convo in the beginning, when Charlie asked of Dean & Sam would be going to the reunion of the LARP bunch. Dean said they wouldn't miss it and I lol'd. Love any tiny bit of continuity.
The "I love you" with the "I know" reply, is just geek culture....its from Star Wars (the real deal, not the prequel travestie :) ), to be more precise its from "The Empire stirkes Back" !!! Episode 5 for those who did not walk the earth in the 80ies. Adorable
This was a wonderful touch. It's exactly what I love about their relationship - how they get each other. I also liked it because Dean knew Charlie couldn't handle him saying, "I love you" back, she probably would have burst into tears...he might have too. He had the perfect line to make her smile. Dean is such a wonderful man and episodes like this show that. I have my complaints about this season but I'm so happy we've had so many episodes like this that show how much Dean cares about people.
SPN writers please don't give us a harrowing cliffhanger..for once please let everything be okay..so we can start the new season fresh....if we must have a cliffhanger let it not be with one of the brothers hurt dead in danger etc etc......no angst for the summer for once.......PLEASE!
Not only was this one of SPN's best eps ever...but it was simply just a great hour of TV in general. The ending alone, from the unexpected hug Sam got (and needed) from Dean to Charlie saying goodbye to her mom...just excellent all around. Wonderful performances by all three and great make up job to make Sam look like he'd been run over by a bus. And of course as with SPN the family theme continues...it's consistently one of the great things about the series as a whole. It never loses sight of the idea of 'family'.
I do love that there's a shooting range in the Bat Cave. How awesome is THAT?
Except he did NOT have to change Sam's character not looking for Dean. That is really my only fault for this season, I would have put this up with my favorite season 4. Start to finish this was an excellent ep.
Sorry I don't pass a final judgment on a 40 min episode over a 20 seconds trailer or over a 2 hour movie over a 1 minute trailer. Not need to trash something you haven't see yet. Are you doing this to people too? Must be fun. Normally we have an impression/feelings/concerns about how it could turn out, but we can't pass a final judgment and say how bad it is before we see it
I adore Charlie, so I really enjoyed this episode. I love Dean and Charlie's friendship. They had some nice scenes together. And Sam also had a lot of interaction with Charlie as well, bonding over their shared computer interests.
I had read a lot of complaints prior to the episode that Sam would be sleeping through the entire episode, LOL. That could not be further from the truth. Sam was very involved in the case and had a lot of interaction with Charlie.
I so love all the hugs Dean is giving out this season! He just wants all of his loved ones to be safe.
Wow . . . what's up w/the personal attack? It's not that serious. Clearly, you and I are different. I will look at a preview and make a judgment on whether I will like that episode or not. Again, I don't think there is anything wrong w/that. In fact, I think that is very human. I did not think this looked like a good episode. I was wrong about that. It wasn't the best episode ever, but it was a pretty solid episode. I liked that my impression was wrong. Here's another example, I thought "Taxi Driver" was going to be awesome, but it was very lacking in my eyes. Again, I think it is perfectly normal to form impressions about movies/television shows based on trailers/previews. Those things are designed to get you to that theatre or in front of that television.
And I would completely agree that one can make a final judgment until they've seen the product. I never said otherwise. I simply said I judged, or rather pre-judged the episode based on the preview. Again, I think that is normal and fine to do.
I didn't feel like I was doing personnal attack sorry if you felt that way.
Why trashed it then if you're agree we can't pass final judgment before seeing it? That's the thing I never get. I had my concerns about the episode, didn't think it was gonna be too good, but I didn't bashed it to the ground like you admit you did and like so many others people did.
Thanks for bringing this up. This is the first episode this season that I didn't watch with my mother and sister because I was seriously not looking forward to the lack of Sam and I knew my moaning / complaining would have spoiled their enjoyment. As soon as I saw the promo and saw Charlie, I knew this was going to be a Charlie / Dean buddy episode.
What did I see when I watched the episode? A lack of Sam and a Charlie / Dean buddy episode. What made this better than the average "put Sam in the background" episode that is so common now, was that there was a reason for the lack of Sam. That is what is missing from most of the Dean centric episodes now days; a reason for Sam to be out of the way. I thank the writer for thinking about Sam a bit in the episode so that he can give Sam a reason to be out of the way. By out of the way I mean, left in the bunker while Dean tests Charlie at the range, goes shopping, and has a Castiel moment with her (the badge). Then, Dean gets to take a dive into her dreams because Sam is too damaged to go through it. It was nice to leave a kid Djinn out there for Sam to deal with... so it was good that he had something to do.
Another thing that I was dreading was to have another Charlie centric episode where Dean is a secondary character. To me it felt like a Winchester was more involved than in the Larp episode. My eyes kind of rolled when I saw Dean all "dressed up" again... but over all I did like the episode. I always like it when the characters seem "in character". The extra hug between the brothers at the end was enough to get a positive reaction out of me even if the episode was all about Charlie.
Well, you asked me if I also prejudged people I met in real life. I felt like you took it a step too far in attacking my character. My prejudgment of a show or a movie has no bearing on how I interact w/people in the real world.
And for the record my "bashing" of the episode was limited to me stating that the episode didn't look like it was going to be good and me speculating that Sam would be sidelined. I really didn't "bash" the episode. I think it's more fair to say I pre-judged it. I guess I was being too harsh on myself (haha) earlier. Oh, and I may have mentioned that I don't care for Charlie.
I have no problem admitting that I didn't think this episode would be good, and I stated that in the trailer thread. I also speculated that Sam would be sidelined b/c that has happened too often before. I'm happy I was wrong on both fronts.
I understand that the negativity/criticism is probably frustrating for you since you love everything about the show. I wish I felt the same way. This was my favorite show at one time. I have no desire to NOT like it. Unfortunately, I can't feel the same as you. There are things that upset me about the show nowadays, and I haven't been enjoying this season that much.
That said, I'm happy for everyone else who is enjoying the show! That's good. I wish I could feel the same way.
I agree. That's why I was happy Sam had some interaction w/Charlie. He even got a hug at the end! YAY!! Sam is usually very isolated. Apart from Dean, he has no other friends, so I would love to see them start giving him friendships.
I find Charlie really annoying. I really don't understand why everyone seems to like her so much, and I hope to god she doesn't get more screen time next season. They need to keep the "funny" characters in the comedy episodes. I want to see dark and scary episodes and characters, not this semi-funny meta LARP stuff that they've been giving us these past couple of seasons.
Relax dude ;P It seemed we don't have the same of ''bashing'' if that's all you did and you weren't part of the group who destroy the episode hard
0_o me loving everything? I wish(!), where have you seen that? You clearly never saw my comments on some episode like Taxi Driver, Bitten and many others and my concerns about many previews too. And now I'm the one judging other now? Don't judge me if you don't know me. Btw I'm pretty sure I said somewhere here that there's lot of things I didn't like this season too.
:) Don't worry nothing to do with you. I know I sound like a grandma on her rocking chair doing knitting all day long in the backyard talking about the ''Good old days'' (since you're new you don't know), but I kind of miss the time where there's was people of all opinion putting their reviews of the good and the bads. Debating was fun, everone shared their opinions, their points and end up agreeing to disagree while many time everyone had points. And where spoilers appears was like ''oh new spoiler....uhh not sure, but we'll see'', and debate for exemple in the ''what did you think of'' were usually about the episode itself.
Now we just need a ''Sam will be wearing a blue shirt'' to start a brother fight, to hear how much the show suck before that and this happened 2 years ago and 7.8 months ago in X episode and to say the next episode will be horrible and destroy the canon and the show and how much they hate showrunner XYZ for doing (start the whole list). Tired of having the same debates over and over and over and over and over again.
I understand many concerns/disagreement/not-hapiness and share many of them at some points in the season, so it was still fine. But after over half a year of negativity and fight in every post, fight over things that happened long long looonnnggg time ago and get started everytime, what kind of debate is that suppose to make? Everyone heard everyone's opinions, time to agree to disagree. People X still don't like? I understand your point the first 300 time, can we stop talking about it? nothing more to add. I honestly feel bad for being like that lately, in the last couple of weeks since I really started to have enough, but I'm just fed up with all the negativity. It was fun when the debates in the spoilers where about the spoilers and debates in an episode/preview would be about this episode. Don't mean we should be forbid to talk about the past, but sometime, after 1000000000 complains from the same person, about the same elements.....getting tired to hear it. Feel like i'm stuck in groundhond day.
Again sorry if you felt I,ve been attacking you :( I really didn't mean it, Even if I have black and bad spots with the show here and there, I'm way more tired of what SpoilerTV has become
You said you felt the opposite, then you said nearly the same thing that I said...
I also felt that the Winchesters were more central to this episode than Larp.
The primary difference in our opinions (which I think is more of a difference in terminology), is that you felt Sam was kept "in the action". I felt it was more like Sam was "allowed to participate". In other words, Dean and Charlie have a 2 minute sequence that goes from the range to a heart felt scene after the montage, then Dean calls Sam and Sam has about a 15 second - "Yes, I'm fine Dean"... (2 shots at the gun range)... "Close enough".
People like to tell me that I am imagining things when I say that Sam is not "in" the show as much as they think... But, Sam is on screen without Dean a total of about 2 minutes. No exaggeration. That includes every 10 second flash and a 25 second scene with Charlie... even that little 10 second phone call to Charlie before Dean walks in the room. The fight scene with the teenage Djinn was about 10 seconds of You killed my mom, then a 30 second.... "you should have listened" scene where Sam kills the Djinn. So, when Sam is getting 10-30 second shots, Dean is getting 1-3 minutes... nearly every time. I stopped counting Dean without Sam scenes at 10 minutes. Of course, Charlie is usually in the Dean scenes, but not always. There is that whole beginning scene (notice the cool costume that Dean gets to wear... again). Then, there is the interview with the nurse when he finds Charlie's mom... but still, Dean with no Sam.
The reason I say that we are agreeing more than we are disagreeing is because even through Charlie was the guest, Charlie didn't "save the day". Dean had a very significant part in this episode. Dean got to save the "damsel in distress", The writers also made Sam's injuries from the trials a focal point of some of the heart to hearts between Dean and Charlie. So, even though Sam wasn't on screen for long periods of time, we get to see Dean worrying about him and Charlie trying to make him feel better. I always like a protective big brother. Sam also got 40 seconds of being the hero because he protected them while they were vulnerable.
In contrast, in the Larp episode, it seemed that Charlie had all the screen time, the emotional arc, got the girl AND got to save the day. Except for seeing Dean dress up and buddying around with Charlie the Winchesters were nearly invisible.
So, even though "in my opinion" Sam wasn't really in the action (he was just off screen too much to be in the action in my opinion). He was involved in the story and there were reasons for him not to be in the action (he can barely function). He never had to awkwardly excuse himself so that Dean and Charlie could have their moments. This time, he said his good byes and left... but it could be that he needed to get inside because he is worn out. There was a reason for him to leave before the good bye was over. He didn't have to say... "I'll be in the bunker"... he just left... That felt much more natural.
Debbie, I misread your first post. Sorry about that.
I don't disagree w/you that there was a reason for Sam to be off-screen in this episode, whereas it wasn't as clear in LARP or the Krissy episode. To be honest, I don't recall much of LARP so I can't really speak on it.
I do agree that this episode felt more natural than the Krissy one.
Definitely. I hate to say it because I kind of liked the actress, but the bonding between Krissy and Dean just didn't feel right and most of it was the way Sam kept excusing himself so that Dean and Krissy could chat. It just didn't feel natural at all. If Sam went out to talk to the dad, that would be one thing. Sam should have had a bonding moment with the dad. Then, there would have been a reason to separate. This episode just felt more natural. When Sam was out of the way, it wasn't awkward... it was expected.
In the Krissy episode, it was clear the writer wanted a Dean/Krissy bonding moment and wanted Sam out of the way so he had Jared awkwardly excusing himself from scenes. As you said, the entire thing felt very unnatural.
I don't try to count appearances, but when there are questions or differences of opinion I do check screen time when the brothers are apart, or when a guest star is on so that I can honestly discuss opinions about whether an episode is Dean centric, Sam centric, or guest centric. To me, this season seems like it has an inordinate number of episodes where the guests (non-Winchesters) are the primary characters in the episodes. I happen to prefer Winchester centric episodes.
However, I am not always sure if my impression of an episode is fact or fiction unless I check it. Do I think Sam and Dean have been sidelined because a guest's scenes seem to be dragging for me or is the guest really hogging the screen time. I, for one, like to know whether it is just my biases or a fact. When I am curious, I time it. I usually don't do much more than time a few scenes, during a part that seems heavily one way or the other. I timed all of Sam's scenes this time when he wasn't with Dean because it really seemed (to me) that he was hardly in the episode (time-wise). All I have to do is look for scenes where Sam is onscreen with no Dean and note the time on the counter that is always on my screen, then note the time that Sam is off screen or when Dean comes on screen.
Usually it is so obvious that I don't bother, but if I am going to make a statement about the amount of time a character has in an episode I wanna know if there is a couple of minutes difference or 10 minute difference. When the entire episode is only 40 minutes and the most I have ever seen a character onscreen is 35 minutes (Dean in What is and What Should Never Be), 10 minutes more is A LOT.
The last time I timed brother differences was in Time After Time because tons of people were saying it was a balanced episode. It was obvious to me that it wasn't, but like this episode, they did give Sam some important things to do in the episode, so I wanted to be sure that it wasn't that the guest star scenes were dragging for me (which happens a lot for me).
Note: If all of the extra time for a Winchester is due to 'research', interviews, or nodding for a guest star, that time doesn't really count as much as dressing in costume, getting hurt (because I love Winchester whumpage), having heart to heart talks about anything where I learn something about a Winchester, etc.
I totally agree. I didn't notice it as bad last season, but episodes like The Mentalists do drive me nuts. Then this season, I was still trying to deal with Sam NOT LOOKING FOR Dean when they throw in Bitten *grrrrrr*. When we had Weekend at Bobby's, at least we knew the characters that bumped our Winchesters off the screen in the beginning of the season, but for Bitten there was NOTHING that I wanted to see. As a general TV episode, it was not badly written (except it was totally predictable). It also wasn't badly acted... but for a Supernatural episode it just about made my head explode.
This season started bad (OOC Winchesters and Bitten), then it just got worse. I didn't "love" an episode until Everybody hates Hitler. For me, that is a long time to wait for an episode that I could immediately re-watch. That one was guest heavy, but at least I felt like the Winchesters were usually in it. LARP was also guest heavy but I didn't enjoy it nearly as much.
Most of the other guest heavy episodes I haven't re-watched at all, so I can't really discuss them. Let's just say I won't be re-watching most of the episodes this season. In fact, until they introduced Men in Letters in ATGB (I believe), I was seriously considering just catching up on everything after the season was over. I thought that it would be easier to take invisible Winchesters if I took in the season all at once. But I ended up really liking As Time Goes By, Everybody Hates Hitler, and Trial and Error (Hellhound ep). Then, they added in Man's Best Friend... and again the Winchesters were 'extras' in their show.
I agree that Remember the Titans was a good episode. It was very guest heavy, but the Winchesters always seemed to be involved. I was actually disappointed when Prometheus was killed. I wouldn't have minded if they bumped into him again. Zeus was also intimidating and good.
Debbie, like you, I was considering not watching anymore after LARP. That's how dreadful I found the first 11 episodes. Like you said, none of the episodes had a re-watch factor for me. But then ATGB aired, and it felt like the "old" Supernatural again. For me, ATGB, EHH, and T&E felt like an entirely different show than the one I had been watching . . . a show more in line w/the Supernatural I had come to know and love. I thought the season had turned around but there were still a couple of "off" episodes (i.e., MBFWB (ugh), TD, Krissy). The episode where Meg died was okay, and I liked RTT. Zeus was great.Abaddon was cool too! I really liked Prometheus.
I can't stand her either. My theory is she's played by Felicia Day, whom I can't stand and think is overrated as a personality, and the character is lesbian, so clearly no threat to anyone's relationships for the Winchesters.
Wow . . . that surprises me. I guess this is the only episode he's written that I like. I loathed everything about Bitten. Barely remember TAT and GS. Didn't care for LARP. Interesting . . . . thanks for the info :-)
The episode was everything. It was witty and suspenseful and it developed Charlie while having emotional resonance for the Winchesters. I love how Dean and Charlie bonded. I hope there's a lot more of her next season. And I loved how Sam just would not give up. :)
I thought this was a fun, enjoyable episode. I could see Charlie becoming a surrogate younger Winchester sis. But damn, she's got to start having relationships with both brothers. We just got rid of a surrogate dad who admittedly liked Dean more than Sam. It's time for the running gag that everyone likes Dean more than Sam to end. So I won't totally accept Charlie until we start seeing characters with comparable relationships to Dean-Cas and Dean-Charlie being introduced for Sam. But if that should happen, then Charlie can stay.
You know, Debbie, I felt the opposite. I felt the brothers had more to do here than in LARP. And I was dreading Sam being sidelined, but I think the writer did a good job of keeping him in the action. It was nice to see Sam practicing his shooting while Dean and Charlie were shopping, and then to see him randomly shop up at the crime site. He was never left out of the action.
Someone listed the episodes RT has written, and I must say that while I don't really care for his prior episodes (Bitten, LARP, GS, TAT), I never felt Sam was just left out of the episode for no reason. I'm not sure who wrote the recent Krissy episode, but in that episode, the way Sam dismissed himself from scenes was just plain awkward. That didn't happen here, and that made me happy.
I thought you liked all the episodes - or most of them - since the negativity seems to bother you. My bad! I think this season sucks so the criticism and "negativity" doesn't bother me at all since I'm usually agreeing w/those who are ranting!
I have only recently started posting here, so I definitely missed your comments on Bitten, and I don't recall your specific comments about TD.
Anyway - if you're enjoying the show, that's cool w/me. If you're not, that's fine too. I have no problem w/you, and I'm sure you have no problem w/me.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I loved it so much! Big Brother!Dean and Sick!Sam is all I ever wanted. And then we got another hug! And alskdfjas;ldkfjas;lkdf.
ReplyDeleteAww, poor Charlie. The end was so sad. And are you happy now that Dean didn't hug cheat on Sam with her? Sam hugged her too. And aww at the "I love you" and the "I know" lines. So cute!
I hope Charlie comes back eventually. Loved this episode!
For not liking Charlie at all I was prepared for a dud. It was actually pretty damn good. Even up to the Star Wars quote at the end.
ReplyDeleteLike the way certain monsters are variants now and VERY glad the bunker's back.
Dean finally acting like the prototype big brother should be. Don't know if it can save Sammy. Maybe Metatron's two fingers can do the trick.
Not much in the way of advancing the mytharc but at least they din't burn anything to the ground.
I have to say, I love Charlie and Dean's friendship this was a great episode and I'm going to rewatch again cause I missed some of the beginning.
ReplyDeleteDon't have enough ''I told you so'' for everyone who said Sam wasn't gonna be in the episode at all ;P
ReplyDeleteLoved it a lot more I tought I would :) Wasn't sold on Charlie, but now I want her back. Maybe not too often, somewhere mid-season next year would be good :)
Yeah, Sam was in it, but did you see? He got TWO hugs from Charlie and Dean got THREE. Clear favoritism! :)
ReplyDeleteI could show a list of episodes that prove why that is a legitimate concern. Are you going to stick your tongue out while you're at it?
ReplyDeleteI agree that the Empire Strikes Back nod was a nice touch.
ReplyDeleteThe real question seems to be: Just how big of a hole is there in hunter's overall knowledge base?
;) Lot more than Sam usually gets. FIne by me. Wish I could say it 2x more than usual, but 2 x 0 still equal 0
ReplyDeleteI'm just happy that Sam hugged Charlie too because of all the people who were upset Dean was hug cheating on his brother. And Sam got a hug too and neither of them died this time, so yay!
ReplyDeleteI loved this ep, the brothers working together, even liked Charlie. Laughed very hard when Sam hit Dean..twice..
ReplyDeleteOMG I loved it! I enjoyed this episode more than any since the beginning. It hit me close to home.
ReplyDeleteThe parts with Dean & Charlie were so moving.
ReplyDeleteDon't be like that. I'm making the difference between ''Concerns'' (I had my concerns) and judging/bashing the whole episode before it aired. Not same thing.
ReplyDeleteOddly enough, I did not hate this episode. I really didn't think I would like it b/c I'm not a Charlie fan, but it wasn't horrible to me. Out of all the Charlie episodes, I liked this one the best.
ReplyDeleteNow, I don't think it was awesome or great, but it was a solid episode.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you! My jaw dropped that Sam was permitted to interact w/Charlie. I honestly expected him to be sidelined, so that was a nice surprise. Who wrote this episode?
ReplyDeleteWHERE IS THE ALPHA VAMP?
ReplyDeleteI judged/bashed this episode before it aired. What's the problem w/that? Don't we all do that we watch previews or trailers to movies? It's natural. People watch movies or episodes based on the trailers/previews. I don't see anything odd about that.
ReplyDeleteThe episode wasn't horrible like I thought it would be, and I am not ashamed to say that.
Unfortunately, I think Sera Gamble had plans for him. I'm not sure if Carver is interested in the Alpha Vamp!
ReplyDeleteIt seemed like Dean pulled it from a Men of Letters book. Wouldn't that mean they knew by the sixties?
ReplyDeleteRobbie Thompson. I said yesterday I didn't think Robbie had any problem writing for Sam. I'm glad he didn't.
ReplyDeleteYeah . . . I don't follow the writers so I never know who has written the episodes. What other episodes has he written?
ReplyDeleteLooked more like John's journal. Which would explain Charlies "i want one of those" quip.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the episode for the pure pleasure of it.
ReplyDeleteI know that people have mixed feelings across the board for Charlie, but I really enjoyed this episode. It was nice to see them utilize her in an actual helpful capacity - it didn't just seem like she was along for the ride this time. I wouldn't mind seeing her every now and again next season.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised by the movement we saw in the trial arc, too.
ReplyDeleteI LOVED IT! not hate here it was good it was sad to see charlie had to let go of her mom but that was a big wink wink to dean about letting go but he said no to that but it was good but still I fear this will end badly the last 3 eps for sam god he is getting weaker and weaker its bad but hell who know whats going to happen. and god with all the hugs there was alot that was cool I do hope she comes back next season I kind of like her.
ReplyDeleteTime After Time, Bitten, LARP and the Real Girl, Goodbye Stranger, this one.
ReplyDeleteSad, simple and powerful episode of Supernatural. This episode make love even more Charlie's character. And the dynamic between her and the Winchesters is always great.
ReplyDeleteI loved that small convo in the beginning, when Charlie asked of Dean & Sam would be going to the reunion of the LARP bunch. Dean said they wouldn't miss it and I lol'd. Love any tiny bit of continuity.
ReplyDeleteThe "I love you" with the "I know" reply, is just geek culture....its from Star Wars (the real deal, not the prequel travestie :) ), to be more precise its from "The Empire stirkes Back" !!!
ReplyDeleteEpisode 5 for those who did not walk the earth in the 80ies.
Adorable
I absolutely agree. We've found it indeed.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for the next season!
ReplyDeleteIf I never got a chance to see another episode of this show that HUG would be ENOUGH for me!
ReplyDeleteSPN writers please don't give us a harrowing cliffhanger..for once please let everything be okay..so we can start the new season fresh....if we must have a cliffhanger let it not be with one of the brothers hurt dead in danger etc etc......no angst for the summer for once.......PLEASE!
ReplyDeleteNot only was this one of SPN's best eps ever...but it was simply just a great hour of TV in general.
ReplyDeleteI do love that there's a shooting range in the Bat Cave. How awesome is THAT?
Except he did NOT have to change Sam's character not looking for Dean. That is really my only fault for this season, I would have put this up with my favorite season 4. Start to finish this was an excellent ep.
ReplyDeleteYou are to late, the season has finished filming. Sorry..But I feel your pain. lol
ReplyDeleteYup, I know! Han/Leia is one of my favorite OTPs and it's one of my favorite lines from the movie(s).
ReplyDeleteSorry I don't pass a final judgment on a 40 min episode over a 20 seconds trailer or over a 2 hour movie over a 1 minute trailer. Not need to trash something you haven't see yet. Are you doing this to people too? Must be fun.
ReplyDeleteNormally we have an impression/feelings/concerns about how it could turn out, but we can't pass a final judgment and say how bad it is before we see it
I adore Charlie, so I really enjoyed this episode. I love Dean and Charlie's friendship. They had some nice scenes together. And Sam also had a lot of interaction with Charlie as well, bonding over their shared computer interests.
ReplyDeleteI had read a lot of complaints prior to the episode that Sam would be sleeping through the entire episode, LOL. That could not be further from the truth. Sam was very involved in the case and had a lot of interaction with Charlie.
I so love all the hugs Dean is giving out this season! He just wants all of his loved ones to be safe.
Wow . . . what's up w/the personal attack? It's not that serious.
ReplyDeleteClearly, you and I are different.
ReplyDeleteWhy trashed it then if you're agree we can't pass final judgment before seeing it? That's the thing I never get. I had my concerns about the episode, didn't think it was gonna be too good, but I didn't bashed it to the ground like you admit you did and like so many others people did.
Those feels... Great episode though. Really great.
ReplyDeleteThanks for bringing this up.
ReplyDeleteWhat did I see when I watched the episode?
ReplyDeleteAnd for the record my "bashing" of the episode was limited to me stating that the episode didn't look like it was going to be good and me speculating that Sam would be sidelined.
ReplyDeleteI find Charlie really annoying.
ReplyDeleteI usually find her annoying too, but she didn't bug me as much in this episode. I hated the montage but everything else was okay.
ReplyDeleteRelax dude ;P It seemed we don't have the same of ''bashing'' if that's all you did and you weren't part of the group who destroy the episode hard
ReplyDelete0_o me loving everything?
ReplyDeleteNow we just need a ''Sam will be wearing a blue shirt'' to start a brother fight, to hear how much the show suck before that and this happened 2 years ago and 7.8 months ago in X episode and to say the next episode will be horrible and destroy the canon and the show and how much they hate showrunner XYZ for doing (start the whole list).
That line was awesome, a bit like Charlie saying 'your history as hunters including the legacy from your father is what really matters here'.
ReplyDeleteNot gonna lie. This episode left me teary-eyed. But then I'm a sucker for the whole 'dead mother' backstory.
ReplyDeleteYou said you felt the opposite, then you said nearly the same thing that I said...
ReplyDeleteI also felt that the Winchesters were more central to this episode than Larp.
Dean got to save the "damsel in distress", The writers also made Sam's injuries from the trials a focal point of
some of the heart to hearts between Dean and Charlie. So, even though
Sam wasn't on screen for long periods of time, we get to see Dean worrying about him and Charlie trying to make him feel better.
Loved it all except walking on sunshine montage. Dean hugs Sam - always a ratings winner
ReplyDeleteYou actually count appearances and track screen time for each character?
ReplyDeleteDebbie, I misread your first post. Sorry about that.
ReplyDeleteI don't disagree w/you that there was a reason for Sam to be off-screen in this episode, whereas it wasn't as clear in LARP or the Krissy episode.
ReplyDeleteAgreed!
ReplyDeleteIn the Krissy episode, it was clear the writer wanted a Dean/Krissy bonding moment and wanted Sam out of the way so he had Jared awkwardly excusing himself from scenes.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I am not always sure if my impression of an episode is fact or fiction unless I check it.
ReplyDeleteThis season started bad (OOC Winchesters and Bitten), then it just got worse.
ReplyDeleteBut then ATGB aired, and it felt like the "old" Supernatural again.
ReplyDeleteWow . . . that surprises me. I guess this is the only episode he's written that I like. I loathed everything about Bitten. Barely remember TAT and GS. Didn't care for LARP. Interesting . . . . thanks for the info :-)
ReplyDeleteSO SO SO GOOD
ReplyDeleteI CRIED
The episode was everything. It was witty and suspenseful and it developed Charlie while having emotional resonance for the Winchesters. I love how Dean and Charlie bonded. I hope there's a lot more of her next season. And I loved how Sam just would not give up. :)
Thompson "can" write for Sam, the problem is he rarely tries to.
ReplyDeleteI thought this was a fun, enjoyable episode.
ReplyDeleteI underastimated this episode at first but I must say: Totally one of the best fillers in the series :))
ReplyDeleteYou know, Debbie, I felt the opposite.
ReplyDeleteSomeone listed the episodes RT has written, and I must say that while I don't really care for his prior episodes (Bitten, LARP, GS, TAT), I never felt Sam was just left out of the episode for no reason.
ReplyDeleteI have only recently started posting here, so I definitely missed your comments on Bitten, and I don't recall your specific comments about TD.
Anyway - if you're enjoying the show, that's cool w/me. If you're not, that's fine too. I have no problem w/you, and I'm sure you have no problem w/me.
Loved and enjoyed every second of it! One of the best shows of the season so far!
ReplyDelete
