Hemlock Grove - More viewership than House of Cards

Hemlock Grove House of Cards
Netflix Press Statement: On April 19, we launched all 13 episodes of Hemlock Grove, a horror thriller from Eli Roth, and we’re very pleased with its early performance. Hemlock Grove was viewed by more members globally in its first weekend than was House of Cards and has been a particular hit among young adults.
I've heard Hemlock Grove isn't that good?
ReplyDeletei have watched the first two episodes so far its abit slow with very bad accents but its intriguing
ReplyDeleteYa,some of the reviews have been pretty bad.
ReplyDeleteIt looks good, but the dialogue is slow and badly done at best. I'm still trying to like it, but I'm not sure I'm going to get there. BInging it is the best, because if I had to wait for it, I would definitely be annoyed. There's no time to forget becoming accustomed to the ridiculousness of some plot points either.
ReplyDeleteIt's such an interesting TV model with how it changes your viewing habits.
Hemlock Grove looks like shit and is SHIT.
ReplyDeleteThat says something about House of Cards
ReplyDeleteHemlock Grove very nicely achieves what it's attempting to do. I like the style, personally, it's like Twin Peaks but appeals to me more. I think the writing is good - it's a little weird getting used to but I don't think it can be defined as "bad". The show's style is just something that is not going to appeal to a lot of people.
ReplyDeleteSo, needless to say I'm thrilled about this because now we're almost guaranteed for a second season!!!!! HELL YES!
I actually really enjoyed the series. It's a total guilty pleasure, yes, (and this all-episodes-released-at-once format is perfect a guilty pleasure binge) but it was a good watch. Pretty off-beat, slow and quite indie-feeling so I can see that a lot of people might not like it but I'd recommend it for fans of slow-building mystery and slightly kooky drama. AHS and True Blood fans in particular should give it a try.
ReplyDeleteThe style and the ease of not waiting until the next episode is ready is very appealing.
ReplyDeleteI'm watching it. It is very slow but it builds the mystery better that way. There are a number of subplots interwoven too.
ReplyDeleteIf you can get past the clunky first 6 episodes by number 7 it starts to click.
ReplyDeleteThis is not the AVClub comments section you're looking for.
ReplyDeleteIt was good but should have ended after the killer was caught, the rest of the ending was weird.
ReplyDeleteIt depends what you're looking for, really. It certainly isn't for everyone.
ReplyDeletei think that was done with the intention of wrapping up most of the story lines in case it doesn't get renewed. it still left some open to give you an idea of where season two will go, but it also wrapped up the main plot points.
ReplyDeleteIt honestly was not that bad. I was unsure of how I felt for the pilot, but I decided to give it another shot. Episode two didn't help with how I felt about it either, but the last scene of that episode forced me to give it another shot. after giving it numerous chances I made my way to episode 7. Needless to say, I'm glad I kept going because even though it is not perfect, the mystic town with it's mysterious civilians and supernatural undertones kept me intrigued.
ReplyDeleteShelley might be my favorite character, she's kind and intriguing and I love how her brother loves her so much. I was so proud when he defended her when Olivia was being cruel.
ReplyDeleteI watched the first episode and just found it very odd, incoherent and none of the characters were remotely likeable... I got to the end and was wondering why I'd wasted my time with it. I won't be watching another episode.
ReplyDeletewow, I saw that some tv guide or tv line reviewer had panned it, but thought that I might give at least the pilot a look, but based off of these overwhelmingly negative reactions, I might as well save myself the time and pass on this.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't get through the pilot, it was awful. Guess I shouldn't be surprised by its success, people seem to like Eli Roth's terrible films.
ReplyDeleteIf it needs 6 episodes to "click" I'm not even sure cable would take a chance on it..
ReplyDelete3 is okay but 6 episodes? Really? That's halfway into the season..
Right but in the unique way of having all the episodes available at one time you can afford to take your time. It is not like you have a long delay between episodes.
ReplyDeleteI'm more of the "3 episodes - next show please!" type of person. Then again, I'm very fickle with tv shows. I can get obsessed with one or two show and the others I like are put in the back burner to being bored with all the shows the next moment.
ReplyDeletePoorly executed show. I can't believe that many people are actually liking it. Dialogue is terrible and some of the acting is just plain bad.
ReplyDeleteiv'e seen 4 episodes so far, its pretty good. its weird and i like it
