looks awesome ahah. I hate ABC and the way they handle most of their shows 90% of the time, but with HE, I really don't think they are to blame for what is happening, they are still promoting instead of just letting it burn off, which at this point they could do, sadly
Promoting it AFTER moving it around to different time slots and having a long break between episodes. :/ I mean, yeah, HE wasn't doing too well even before they did all of that but now it's doing even worse.
I realize that, but they could simply have canceled it along with Apartment 23. In their first season, HE's ratings did not warrant renewal. At the most, it was a bubble show, but that is being nice. But as feedback was so positive, ABC stuck with it and gave it the prized post MF slot. Its ratings were ok there, but retention still sucked, so ABC wanted to put the timeslot to better use, understandably. While doing so, they sort of sacrificed Happy Endings a bit by making it air out of repeats. However, even on those nights, MF was still an acceptable lead-in and the late season high 1s that HE settled at would have been enough to get it renewed this year had that been the level it had settled on Tuesdays - the fact that it didn't sort of shows that its audience was coming entirely from MF, even from MF repeats, which it did not beat. Then came the move to Tuesdays, paired with a similar skewing show in Apartment 23. Was this move completely wrong? Yes, 100%, because it placed the show directly against the fierce compeition of the similar skewing New Girl and the voice fueled Go On and because it lacked support from the lead-in. Now that I think about it, there is probably no other combination of shows on the entire network that would have made less sense than DWTS and HE. So was it a mistake? Sure! However, two things must be said about ABC here: I don't think they were expecting HE to have ratings nowhere near early season 2 levels. I think that they 1) Did not antecipate the complete collapse of DWTS in the fall. As incompatible as they were, eyeballs were still eyballs and had DWTS been in high 2s for the fall, I think HE would have been able to settle at high 1s.; 2) They probably did not realize soon enough (neither did I for that matter) how lead-in dependent from MF the show was, as it wasn't even able to match the ratings it got out of MF repeats. As I've said, had the show settled in high 1s, it would have been renewed with no major problem. Still, despite its total collapse, they even gave it a sunday tryout, where it performed even worse and they are now giving it a friday tryout, which they are still bothering to promote. Listen, I am playin Devil's Avocate here. I looove Happy Endings and I hate ABC's scheduling department with passion, but I think they actually did right by the show. You tell me that a waaaay better lineyup would have been Tuesdays DWTS/Nashville/PP and Wednesdays Middle/TN/MF/Sub/HE/A23 and I would agree, that would have benefited all shows involved IMO, but I can understand why they didn't go there.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
