THE CW ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL EARLY PICKUPS FOR THE 2013-2014 SEASON
The CW Orders First New Series of Next Season with "The Originals"
"Beauty And The Beast" and "Hart of Dixie" Picked Up For Next Season
April 26, 2013 (Burbank, California) - The CW Network has given early pickups to three additional dramas for next season, including the first new series order of the season with THE ORIGINALS, the highly anticipated spin-off of The Vampire Diaries, which was introduced during last night's episode. The network also gave advance orders for the second season of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST andthe third season of HART OF DIXIE. The pickups were announced today by Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW.
"As soon as we saw last night's episode of 'The Vampire Diaries,' we knew we wanted more of 'The Originals' - Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson have done a fantastic job with 'The Vampire Diaries,' which is as fast-paced and well-written as ever, and Julie has created an equally compelling world for 'The Originals,'" said Pedowitz. "We're also very excited to bring back 'Beauty And The Beast' and 'Hart of Dixie' for next season - both series continue to be creatively strong and compelling, and their fans are incredibly passionate. I'm very happy to have all three series on the schedule for next season."
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, starring Kristin Kreuk and Jay Ryan, was this year's People's Choice Award winner for Favorite New Drama, and HART OF DIXIE, starring Rachel Bilson,is one of The CW's top performers on digital platforms, behind only THE VAMPIRE DIARIES.
All three of these series see big lifts in Live+7 Day delayed viewing versus Live + Same Day, with THE VAMPIRE DIARIES jumping 52% increase among adults 18-34 and a 56% gain among women 18-34 once all time-shifted viewing is included. HART OF DIXIE averages a 53% increase among adults 18-34 and a 61% gain among women 18-34, and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST seeing a 43% jump in adults 18-34 and a 45% bump in women 18-34 from the overnight Live+SD to Live+7.

Emm, where is Nikita?
ReplyDeleteFirst Parenthood and now HoD and BatB =D!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat about the best show in CW? ( For those who do not see... NIKITA!)
ReplyDeleteTHE BEST NEWS EVER! Go BATB.
ReplyDeleteHOLY MOLY!! Is this TRUE??
ReplyDeleteYup. Multiple sites are reporting this.
ReplyDeleteEbaaaaaaaaaa So good
ReplyDeleteI AM SO SO SO HAPPY OMG
ReplyDeleteNikita >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> BatB.
ReplyDeleteYAY HOD and BATB, give me Nikita and I'll can die happy <3
ReplyDeleteBATB!!!! BEST SHOW EVER!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy I could start watching other shows, but no, BATB is the only show this Beastie needs in his life. Seriously, if BATB had been cancelled, I would have killed myself. #uselesshastag
I'll be checking back in with this thread in a few hours. It should make for some interesting reading.
ReplyDeletebatb YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS AND OMG WHERES MY NIKITA PLEASEEEE GIVE ME MY NIKITA
ReplyDeleteThe Selection and Nikita next please!
ReplyDelete3 of my shows were renewed today! That never happens. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for BATB CW! <3
ReplyDeletePlease stop calling it the best show ever. I wouldn't put it in the top 1000.
ReplyDeleteYAY for BATB! Please please prick up The Selection!
ReplyDeleteCarrie Diaries anyone? :(
ReplyDeleteGuess this show is already forget by everyone...
yes !!!!! BATB !!!! THANK YOU CW !!!!!
ReplyDeleteAll I need now is Nikita !!!
ReplyDeleteSo happy for Beauty and the Beast... Now it's time from Nikita ! If CW don't renew Nikita I am gonna be very angry!
ReplyDeleteWow these are some actually interesting news. Hart of Dixie was a very very likely renewal, but Beauty and the Beast was, in my mind, one of the biggest tossups of the season. It is interesting to note that most of the my biggest tossups have been addressed already (The Mentalist, The Mindy Project, Beauty and the Beast), with the only ones left being the ABC comedies and Go On (Whitney to a smaller extent). I have never watched the show and I am not too sure it deserves the renewal but congrats to the fans. I am almost 100% sure it will go to fridays though. Who knows, if the fanbase is as devoted as they make it seem like, it may actually do a decent job for them in there.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think it is very strange that Nikita is yet to be renewed. I consider it as much of a sure thing as TVD, Arrow and Supernatural and these have been renewed a long time ago. Definitely more likely than Beauty and the Beast! I still say that it is a lock, but this certainly raises questions of whether or not I am being too reliant on syndication.
Anyway, personally I am happy for Hart of Dixie, which I like very much.
I wouldn't put it in the top 1000 either.
ReplyDeleteBut in the top 10, yeah, definitely.
#BATBforever
:D
It has been a likely cancellation for quite some time now
ReplyDeleteNikita is still a certain renewal. But this is not the best sign I agree.
ReplyDeleteWell hot damn. Some pretty bitter Nikita fans on here tonight down voting other fans. Look at the ratings if you want a reason why Nikita is not in the mix.
ReplyDeleteIt is still a certain renewal. But these are not the best news for it, I wonder what the hold up. Maybe it is just a PR stunt with the cw now wanting to admit in such an obvious way that it is working with syndication as the prime goal in their minds.

ReplyDeletesyndication as the prime goal in their minds. I for one really hope that is just it, as I love the show.
iadbcfuyfgbhub LOL so happy...
ReplyDeleteI think they might still be debating about the number of episodes and not announcing its renewal to apply more pressure on its exec producer to align with them.
ReplyDeleteThat doesn't make sense. You wouldn't put it in the top 1000 but it's in the top 10. That's completely opposite thoughts so which is it. You must not have seen many shows if you think it's the best show ever.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more...
ReplyDeleteI guess they haven't renewed Nikita yet because they are still determening the amount of episodes they are going to order and they want to give it a proper final season announcement
ReplyDeleteyay for beauty and the beast. i hope that next season of hod is better glad they get a chance. i still have hope for nikita though,
ReplyDeleteDoes it mean batb will get full season?
ReplyDeleteI think something similar happened to Gossip Girl's final season and it was the last show on the network to be renewed.
ReplyDeleteGood news for the Originals! But WHY THE HELL Batb??? Secret Circle had more viewers and the show was MUCH MUCH better,
ReplyDeleteI've only seen two shows : The Wire and Beauty and the Beast.
ReplyDeleteI love realism, compelling actors, thoughtful character development, credible/complex stories developed over a long period and meaningful themes talking about society.
And that's why I love Beauty and the Beast.
#BATBisbetterthanthewire #KristenKreukcomin'yo
:)
Guess this means I'll start watching Beauty and the Beast! And yay for The Originals!
ReplyDeleteWhile I was a fan of the secret circle and was sad to see it go, its position relative to the remaining cw shows was worse than that of BatB: The Secret Circle had a 61% Index, whereas Beauty and the Beast currently sits at 80%, which is a very big difference. My point: had the secret circle happened to exist this year rather than last year and had it had the exact same ratings (unlikely) it would likely have been renewed.
ReplyDeleteThat doesn't make sense to me because if Nikita is renewed it has be for a full 22. episode season as the goal would be entirely syndication and anything short of that number doesn't allow said goal to be fulfilled
ReplyDeleteYou should, it is still a certain renewal in my book, but we have to see. There is certainly reason for hope

ReplyDeletea full 22. episode season as the goal would be entirely syndication and
anything short of that number doesn't allow said goal to be fulfilled.
I am a Nikia fan (and I also like Hart of Dixie), but that doesn't mean I am downvoting anyone. Why would I? I have never watched Beauty and the Beast, but I may actually give it a shot in the summer.
ReplyDeleteI still say they will renew it. It would be against all the syndication gods not too. In my book, it is not even a bubble show. So let's wait and be hopeful!
ReplyDeleteSame here! I still say they will renew it. It would be against all the syndication
ReplyDeletegods not too. In my book, it is not even a bubble show. So let's wait
and be hopeful!
I also want the selection picked up. I want the originals (already here, yay), the selection, the hundred and tomorrow people!
ReplyDeleteGood for Beasties. I hope they can relax now that they've gotten their season 2 renewal.
ReplyDeleteI heard TSC was more expensive to produce.
ReplyDeleteThat's probably what they're negotiating, whether or not they want a short/full 'final' season.
ReplyDeleteYes love the sound of Beauty & The Beast getting renewed !!! thanks CW
ReplyDeleteHa! There will certainly be a lot of comments. I think it's about to get nasty in here.
ReplyDeleteWhile that may have been part of it, I generally don't believe that is a major factor because I think networks should have relatively homogeneous gross margins when producing shows (within each network I mean).
ReplyDeleteBut negotiating with whom? The producing company is Warner Brothers, which is also one of the owners of the network, so they both have the same goal when renewing it (syndication), since they are the same entity.
ReplyDeleteWhen Nikita Is renewed It will announced as final season.
ReplyDeleteMy prediction Is Nikita and Beauty and the beast will be the friday lineup In fall.
I know The CW would pick up The Original.Expect It to follow VD In fall.
As usual, Nikita gets treated like the red-headed stepchild of this network. Sure, its ratings suck. I'd like to see what BatB or HoD could do on Friday.
ReplyDeleteHahaha!!!
ReplyDeleteI think it's more about final negotiations but won't it be a real shocker if we all find out that we drank the TVbtN's Kool-Aid and syndication doesn't end up being as big a deal as preached over there. I'm starting to question whether it will get 22 episodes or not. Still maybe the hold up is when they premiere Nikita next year. It could be a midseason through summer plan.
ReplyDeleteI think you may get a chance next year as I really think Beauty and the Beast will be paired with Nikita on Fridays!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the prediction of friday lineup.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I know, no information about the number of episodes order for any of the three series (though I would guess that at least the originals got only a 13 episode order, as is common practice for any new show)
ReplyDeleteThat may have been 1 of the many factors. Shows can lose a lot of money on expensive shows (ex. Terra Nova), but that was way more expensive to produce.
ReplyDeleteYESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS BATB!
ReplyDeleteNikita was worth more than both of them.
ReplyDeleteHe is being sarcastic. Did you not read his actual post?
ReplyDeleteI'm a Nikita fan and don't watch the other 2, but I'm not downvoting anyone. This site is always full of people downvoting fans of shows they dislike. Please don't generalize.
ReplyDeleteThere's been reports of different episode numbers from sources and I guess that's why it's been held up from an official announcement.
ReplyDeleteI think syndication is irrelevant with regards to this show, home video is much more important. Leaving the show on a cliffhanger might make people not buy the DVD's and Blu-Ray.
ReplyDeleteAlso this wouldn't be the first time that even though the production company and the network that aired the show, even though they are owned by the same company, have been in conflict. Prison Break is a recent example where the network FOX wanted to end it after the 17th episode, but the production company 20th Century Fox said they had greenlit 22 episodes so they were obligated to that number
Terra Nova, IMO, is the exception that confirms the rule. I agree that it was a special case. But I doubt there are significant budget differences between the cw shows (although I do think something like Hart of Dixie must come cheaper than The Vampire Diaries).
ReplyDeleteI wasn't aware of that Prison Break story. That is certainly interesting.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe it. BatB second season? It's a dream coming true. I am so happy!!!
ReplyDeleteThere could be a syndication deal with less episodes too. It has been done before.
ReplyDeleteActually, the only source has been deadline (tv line uses deadline has its source for renewals and cancellations, so the source is the same). While it is generally pretty reliable, I don't believe them this time. And Craig Silverstein, Nikita's showrunner, tweeted saying that he had no idea where that number came from and that it was essentially made up. Also, this is the same deadline that predicted Nikita's cancelation last year.
ReplyDeletePerhaps the number desired for syndication is different since the primary syndication target seems to be Asian markets and not domestic.
ReplyDeleteWoo Hoo!! Bring on season 2 of BATB!!
ReplyDeleteThat's one theory I had never came across. Maybe you have got something in there, who knows.
ReplyDeleteCall it a hunch. I said 'some'
ReplyDeleteI still say they will renew it. It would be against all the syndication
ReplyDeletegods not too. In my book, it is not even a bubble show. So let's wait
and be hopeful!
I still say they will renew it. It would be against all the syndication
ReplyDeletegods not too. In my book, it is not even a bubble show. So let's wait
and be hopeful, it will come sooner rather than later!
Everyone predicted Nikita's demise last year. The ratings pretty much guaranteed it. What Nikita (and Fringe) proves is that we never know the real deal going on behind the scenes.
ReplyDeleteYes, HoD is much cheaper to produce, but TVD does well enough.on its' own
ReplyDeleteYeah, that seems likely. Although I don't want it to come off like I wish ill on BatB - I have nothing against the show, and good for its fans. It just annoys me that Nikita is perpetually mocked for its ratings when it's pretty obvious no CW bubble show would do better in that slot.
ReplyDeleteAlright, I guess they don't know how many episodes yet. Thanks for the tweet.
ReplyDeleteBut I think TVBTN s right with their syndication argument. There is no way a show like Fringe or Chuck would have been renewed in its final years were it not for syndication. Now, they may play with where they place the show, no question about that. But I also sort of doubt it a bit, because truth is, they need some sort of filler for fridays, and if they are going to have a 4th season of nikita, might as well just air it there. We'll see
ReplyDeleteHopefully Tomorrow People and Selection get picked up
ReplyDeleteim scared of studio politics since Reign, Oxygen, Blink and Company Town are CBS pilots
while The Selection, The 100 and The Tomorrow People are WB so i guess they need to pickup at least one CBS
yea i know. I love tsc but im still happy for batb. though tsc deserves it more :)
ReplyDeleteTrue, I wasn't saying the opposite. Just saying that in general I think shows' budgets are mostly the same, even though that was an exception
ReplyDeleteI think most of us are just repeating what the TVbtN gurus say, me included. Fringe did not need to be renewed for a final season. It had the equivalent of 88 episodes before it was renewed this season because the pilot was 2 hours long. They did not need to renew Fringe for syndication.
ReplyDeleteYeah, but there can be budget cuts where they film in less set pieces/locations or they get rid of some actors.
ReplyDeleteI don't appreciate bragging, but I didn't predict Nikita's demise last year to be honest. I have my own prediction model (for what it is worth). I base it on ratings (of course) but also on the number of episodes (first season shows are brought down because they are too far from syndication and because they are very unstable). Also, I used weighted averages of new episodes rather than seasonal averages. This is what my CW index looked like last year:
ReplyDelete1. The Vampire Diaries: 2.78
2. Supernatural: 1.24
3. One Three Hill: 0.97 [Final Season]
4. 90210: 0.95
5. Nikita: 0.73
6. Gossip Girl: 0.64
7. Hart of Dixie: 0.61
8. The Secret Circle: 0.61 [Biggest Tossup of the Season with HoD]
9. Ringer: 0.46
Based on how badly the freshman class performed last year and considering also a friday factor, Nikita's renewal was predictable and justifiable. But my point was just that Deadline isn't some sort of 100% accurate source.
That is true actually. But I have trouble working out the maths for it. The marginal difference between having a 76 or an 88 syndication package revenue would have to be too low to not be enough to offset the losses of producing the remaining 12 eps. While possible, I don't think it is very likely. But it is possible, I give you that.
ReplyDeleteI obviously have no idea what the CW will actually do but I could see them picking of Company Town and pairing it with Hart of Dixie. There really isn't much of anything that would pair with it anymore since it is highly unlikely Carrie Diaries is coming back.
ReplyDeletesupposedly The New Normal is more likely to be renewed than Go On
ReplyDeleteNever watched Nikita not saying its not a good watch but the only show i watch on the CW is Beauty & the Beast so glad it lives to see season 2 !!!!!
ReplyDeleteBut that is usually for older shows I think. I think when a show is green lighted to series, networks (especially such a netlet as the cw) does so with a sort of predefined budget. Not sure here, I am talking out of the air and you could be 100% right and I be wrong, this is just what I think of it.
ReplyDeleteyou should give it a watch i think you'll be happy you did !
ReplyDeleteI agree 100% on that. I have never watched the show but I don't hate it or anything and might actually try it out now that it has been renewed, but I also don't like how everyone talks about Nikita's rating without giving them a proper friday factor. The ratings are still not great after accounting for it, obviously, but they aren't significantly worse or better than the remaining cw bubble shows, just within the same range.
ReplyDeleteTSC fans can start crying now!
ReplyDeleteI was a big fan of the secret circle but I am not crying. I understand the cw's decision. Why even bring it up?
ReplyDeleteYeah, but I've seen 2nd season shows that have reduced budgets. You could be right though.
ReplyDeleteHm? Sorry, but where did that come from? Who says that?
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that. That is obviously very troubling. Maybe the beauty and the beast renewal somehow makes it better? I really want the 100! I also think they could easily green light a 5th pilot, oxygen, for mid season, since that one appears to fit with basically anything on the schedule.
ReplyDeleteI think Hart of Dixie could work as a nice lead-out for the selection. People who have read the books have said they are compatible actually.
ReplyDeleteIf I remember right, it is production companies that set a show's budget not networks. However the lower the budget, the cheaper they can sell it to the network of course, which can make a world of difference in whether a show gets picked up or not.
ReplyDeleteWhile that is true, the idea is also that the additional revenue that you get from a 100 episode package is substantially higher than that of an 88 episode package, which means the cost of producing the 13 extra episodes is more than offset. Now, this wouldn't hold if it would also imply an opportunity cost for FOX, i.e. if it would force them not to renew another well performing drama. However it wasn't the case for Fox. My home-made index for the last year still puts Fringe well ahead of Alcatraz or The Finder. The decision was probably between premiering a new drama on Fridays (which could easily bomb) or get the extra revenue from the better syndication package for Fringe.
ReplyDeleteI can't think of one but you might be right. However, the argument was between first season secret circle and first season beauty and the beast, so my point still stands.
ReplyDeleteThat is true, of course. But I would say that in the CW's case that is sort of irrelevant since the network only buys shows from its own production companies if I am not mistaken, no? I think they only have either CBS or WB productions.
ReplyDeleteThe problem with this theory is that Kitchen Nightmares continuously outperformed Fringe. It was an opportunity cost for FOX, which makes me think that the WB practically paid FOX to air Fringe.
ReplyDeleteWasn't it renewed for a final 10 eps a few weeks back? Or was that a rumour?
ReplyDeleteBut in the end, Kitchen Nightmares was run along with Fringe. It wasn't a one or the other situation. If anything, it was between full season for Touch and half for Fringe/half for Chuck and, if that was the case, I think we can all agree Fox did the right thing seeing how badly Touch has done in the ratings. However, I do agree that WB almost paid FOX to air Fringe, but that only goes to strengthen my point: a 100 episode package is way more lucrative than a 88 package (or else, why would WB push it?), to such an extent that it actually offsets the cost of producing the remaining 12 eps.
ReplyDeleteRumor
ReplyDeletetalk about your standards only, I love BATB over Nikita 10000 times, but I guess everybody is different...huh?
ReplyDeleteoh no Dahne dont ever tell a fan (fanatic) to relax , there is a lot to be invovled, this is just the beginning :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think Batb was filmed in Canada and that's what made it cheaper to produce. It seems like the DVR numbers/possibly international sale might've influenced their decisions based on the press release.
ReplyDeleteI guess this means no more CW for me :P TSC FOREVER!!!!!!!! LOL
ReplyDeleteThat might be true actually. My original point, however, was that I wouldn't need to go there to justify the renewal of beauty and the beast and not of the secret circle. That could just make it even more justified though.
ReplyDeleteNikita )': The Carrie Diaries )': What'll happen to them?? )'''''':
ReplyDeleteGood news! I'd be happier, but the last few episodes of HoD have been dragging me down. I hope it picks up for the finale.
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised at the two renewals, I am surprised The Originals going to series has been announced before up fronts and that Nikita hasn't been renewed yet.
ReplyDeleteno people are more civil in here than at tvbtn you should go there, BATB haters after its renewal they are "predicting" ratings are gonna fall way below Cult and that from people predicting the show wasnt gonna get renewed so I could care less what they say BATB got renewed and will live up to see another season :)
ReplyDeleteI used to go to TVbtN all the time but stopped last year because there are too many horrible people posting there.
ReplyDeleteYou haters are so amusing to read!!!!! specially the guys, I can enjoy BATB as much as I enjoy TWD, GOT, or any other show I like, its a matter of what you like and what you dislike! and if you dislike BATB and got renewed why so bitter nobody is forcing you to watch it or putting a gun in your head....*rolling eyes*
ReplyDeleteWOOHOO!! We did it beasties!!
ReplyDeleteWe surely did. Was hoping to get a confirmation before May 16th and we got it. Go BATB!
ReplyDeleteThe Originals was already hyped up, so I'm not surprised by that early announcement.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I guess there could also be other factors to it as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised BatB got renewed. It's numbers have been ticking upward and holding pretty well and I've seen a lot more people responding to polls and promo posts. It's good to hear. I'm not a rabid fan but I do like it!
ReplyDeleteits was on Deadline today somewhere
ReplyDeleteActually there was a gun to my head, but that was for a totally different matter.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a hater, I just thought, "hey, BATB fans have proven over the season that they're very susceptible, I might as well do that and see what happens".
Because I didn't want to see swarms of teenage girls unleashing on me (wait, that doesn't sound so bad... :D), I couldn't help but apologize quickly for my obvious attempt at a troll by saying, third paragraph in my first post, "So sorry, couldn't help, felt good. That's great for the fans, obviously."
It seems to have gotten overlooked, as was the rest of the message by those who thought I genuinely meant BATB is the best show ever and that I would have committed suicide if it had not been picked up for season 2 (c'mon, there was 'troll' written all over it).
Good for you, BATB fans, I mean it, I don't watch the show (or the CW in general for the past two seasons), I've only seen the pilot and I'm definitely not in the target demo, I don't care what happens with it. It'd be sad if if prevented a show I'm going to start watching again at some point (Nikita) to get a final season, but other than that it doesn't affect me.
I'm just saying that I wish BATB fans would watch critically acclaimed shows. Because I've seen some "best show ever" type of comments regarding BATB. And sometimes I see what people hope for with this show, like what they want to see happen in the next episode, and it just seems rather shallow, to be honest. And I'm stupid enough to think that it's because they haven't been exposed to enough well-written, well-acted drama series that they settle for this.
I know not all fans have futile hopes like this, I'm sure you don't and hell, even for some of my favorite series I'm saddened to see what motivates some fans into watching. But they exist, especially with CW shows... if only no one had invented the word 'shipper' - the only thing I 'ship' is coherent character development beyond love triangles and "will they/won't they" stories.
But BATB is not one a critically acclaimed series, that is a fact, and critics are not evil or corrupted like some people say. The Television Critics Awards trump the People's Choice Awards any day of the year. Critics watch lots of stuff and deliver detailed judgements, and most of the time you can single out the very best shows on TV thanks to them and those shows are usually at least pretty good. And I believe if you're exposed to genuinely great shows, it grows on you and you can't go back.
Because the reason TSC got cancelled had nothing to do with ratings. Geez get over it already.
ReplyDeleteOk I got you, but thats the problem in generalizing, yes the target demo for BATB are women, but we certainly are not teenagers you will be amazed by the age range it goes from +24-75 yrs. old, and I can tell you that because I run a FB page and the followers are not teenagers, I cant say is the best show out there because it does have its flaws and I know it, but its the best show for me, for my current tv needs and Ive learned to overlook them, and please its the CW for cry out loud no cable tv, and is the only show I watch there but Im a woman, we are looking for some real romance we crave that, and all we ask is a little respect for the fans of a certain show. And as I stated you above, I do watch from TWD, GOT, Spartacus, Vikings to a "crappy"show called BATB but its my like not the quality of the show itself.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to the fans of the renewed shows:)
ReplyDeleteNow, if only ABC would start to make a move, I´d aprecciate it!
GO BEASTIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhy would you assume so?
ReplyDeleteSo Sad. I loved TCD.. Realy want see Carrie lost her virginity )':
ReplyDeleteExcept that Gordon Ramsay had more than one show he was in. They could have run them back to back and had a Gordon Ramsay night. There was nothing saying that FOX had to have scripted fare on Friday. Inf act, it's ratings would have improved if it did not.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it was a given, especially with the amount of attention both series have gotten.
ReplyDeleteThat's great! :) I love the show, i hope you do too. :) There have been a lot of changes since the pilot. Where the show is now is much different than where it began. All for the better IMO. Happy viewing. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! I've always wanted to watch it after everyone says that it gets wayyyy better after a few episodes but I didn't want to waste my time with it if it ever got cancelled. Now that it has been renewed, I'm even more excited to start it!
ReplyDeleteare u kiddin me last year they didint renew TSC cause of it low rating and it never dropped till 0.5 liike BATB and they renew it¿? i just cant believe this
ReplyDeleteI am (for the most part pleasantly) unsurprised.
ReplyDeleteOK, so they order a series from a pilot that earned near the series low on the show it's spun off. The renew BatB which has almost the same rating as Ringer, which was cancelled like it was the biggest failure ever. Yes, because fuck logic, that's why... I hope this network will do us a favor and cancel itself next year.
ReplyDeleteYou forgot to add that The Originals will have13 episodes. https://twitter.com/cadlymack/status/327900016767291392
ReplyDeleteGlad Beauty & the Beast is renewed.. it's been getting better and better.
ReplyDeleteAnd I really liked The Originals episode of TVD. I hope there continues to be some crossovers... eg. Katherine following Elijah.
As for Nikita... it doesn't look like there'll be a conclusion to the series this season so I do hope it gets another season (or part as rumoured) in order to wrap things up.
Yay!! Go Besties!!!! Thank you CW,and you rock!!!! :DDDD
ReplyDeleteWhile that is true, I think there is something about networks preferring scripted to reality unless the benefit of reality is much higher (i.e. unless we are talking powerhouses a la Idol, Voice, Survivor or DWTS). This is one example of that. Also, ABC was winning Fridays last season just fine. This season, they launched the LMS/MC block and actually did fine as well, but the overall ratings were lower than when they had What Would You Do? there. I think the benefits of potential syndication (or, in the case of Fringe, the absence of costs for syndicated shows) outweigh the marginal ratings advantages they would get from airing unscripted rather than scripted. Or else why would you think this has happened? In both cases. Of course it could be all in my head too :P I don't claim to know it all, this is just what makes the most sense to me based on the information I have!
ReplyDeleteBut they haven't canceled any show this season (apart from 90210 and Cult, which were givens, considering the ratings). Why would you stick around until 1 year later if your problem was with a show that has been canceled a yea ago?
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty simple why Nikita didn't get an early renewal: save the best for last.
ReplyDeleteI don't watch either show but I'm glad for fans of both shows! :)
ReplyDeletebecause everyone who saw the pilot can predict the failure of the Originals. the pregnancy storyline is awful and it's not something that can be ever fixed. what do you do with a pregnant teen and later a baby in a tv show like the Originals? it's never gonna be interesting and sexy and the CW would never let anyone to get rid of Phoebe Tonkin's character
ReplyDeleteIt does get way better, IMO around ep 5 it starts to change direction. After that every ep picks up the pace. Not that the first few are bad, I did enjoy them. There was some really nice character development between Vincent and Catherine.
ReplyDeleteWhat I want to for the cw
ReplyDeleteMondays

9.8c: The Selection
Tuesdays
8.7c: Hart of Dixie
9.8c: The Tomorrow People
Wednesdays
8.7c: Arrow
9.8c: Supernatural
Thursdays
8.7c: The Vampire Diaries
9.8c: The Originals/ The Secret Circle (longshot)
Fridays:
8.7c: Beauty and The Beast
9.8c: Nikita (4rth and final season.)
I just want TSC TO BE RENEWED. all i care about is TSC, TVD, Originals, BatB, HoD, Arrow
aren't all new shows only picked up for 13 initial episodes, the back 9 comes depending on performance?
ReplyDeleteyou forgot that TSC was apparently more expensive, wasn't doing well in foreign markets and the CW weren't all that impressed with the pitch for season 2.
ReplyDeleteup fronts arent too far off now so renewals for the 100% certain shows are likely to be just around the corner.
ReplyDeleteno its numbers have been pretty steady in the 0.5/0.6 range, theres been no marked improvement of any sort
ReplyDeleteWell I have seen the pilot and I enjoyed it a lot. Sure, it was far from perfect, but it was very enjoyable. And I have seen plenty of people who also liked it. It is far from being the consensual negative feedback that Cult got. Also, this was a backdoor pilot, which are often retooled when the actual show airs (e.g. Private Practice planted spin-off during Grey's Season 3).
ReplyDeleteI would change some stuff in there, but in general I agree (obviously not about the secret circle as that is completely impossible to happen, even if I really enjoyed the show myself):
ReplyDeleteMondays:
The Tomorrow People
The Hundred
Tuesdays
The Selection
Hart of Dixie
[I don't think HoD is strong enough to lead off the night, it is better of as a leadout. And I think it pairs better with the selection than with the tomorrow people, which is too sci-fi Imo]
Everything else, the same. I would hold Oxygen for midseason to replace a failed drama, as it seems to fit with basically everything on the schedule.
Like the way you think!
ReplyDeleteYeah I am sure they won't resist the crossovers! I don't mind, I love when they do that in shows!
ReplyDeleteYes. There are some exceptions (eg. I think the Michael J.Fox sitcom that NBC ordered has been order straight to 22 episodes) but they are very rare. Almost all pilots get 22 episodes, as do some sophmore shows (e.g. Scandal or Up All Night this season, typically borderline renewals from the previous year)
ReplyDelete1. The originals episode was tied with last week's episode, so it is normal. TVD's ratings always decrease in the spring. Why would you expect a number of people who are not watching TVD to suddenly be interested in the originals? It would have been great if the ratings had increased, but it means nothing that they stayed the same as they were a week ago.
ReplyDelete2. Ringer's weighted average of ratings last year (gives greater weight to more recent episodes): 0.45
Beauty and The Beast's weighted average of ratings this year: 0.63
Also, if you consider inflation (i.e., the normal ratings decline year to year, which so far is 14% in the scripted shows domain, Ringer's ratings would be 0.39 this year. That is 38% lower to Beauty and the Beast's ratings. I don't even watch Beauty and the Beast but to compare the level of failure of the two of them is just insane.
The rest of the cw is doing significantly worse this year than it was last year. Even though beauty and the beast is more or less in the same range as the secret circle was ratings wise, the rest of the cw is falling way harder than it was last year, with 90210, gossip girl, carrie diaries, cult and emily owens all bombing or ended. Last year, by the end of its run, the secret circle was only a better renewal candidate than ringer and was in the same range as hart of dixie, with only one three hill ending. Different context means different strictness with ratings.
ReplyDeleteIt is still very much likely to be come May.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like it'll do better than Cult, which isn't saying much at all, but it should do okay when it actually premieres, after that, who knows...
ReplyDeleteSo it is Claudia ^ ^
ReplyDeletenever, guy!
ReplyDeletei know its impossible for tsc to get renewed. its a fantasy.
ReplyDeleteall we need is secret circle
ReplyDeleteI think they will make us wait up until the very end.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the Originals was probably the safest pickup for a pilot in all networks, beaten only by ABC's Shield IMO.
ReplyDeleteI say: Nikita is a certain renewal, it should happen in May; TCD is likely canceled I am affraid.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why the CW renewing 2 shows would mean you wouldn't watch it anymore. But to each his own.
ReplyDeleteThe Originals = the new Cult
ReplyDeleteYES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBecause a lot of TSC fans have been. I don't see it here as much as some other sites though.
ReplyDeleteI hate those two shows and i'm sorry if you're a fan and i hurt you by saying this. But CW has become one of the worst channel on tv and is like the lil b***h to all the other networks. I'm just sick of them cancelling good shows for these crap.
ReplyDeletewhy wasn't Nikia picked up yet?? Good news for HOD and BATB fans though.
ReplyDeleteSuch great news about BATB! I heard it was a 22 ep pick up too!! :) I hope more people come to love this show as much as I do. Is it perfect? No. But I do find it very entertaining and for me that's what TV is all about.
ReplyDeleteI try to stay away from there too. There are some pretty rude people there and that's just not called for.
