-Ratings Breakdown:
Got scored another midweek overnight victory, which should also result in an adult 18-49 win. But two-hours of “American Idol” at an 8.7 rating/14 share from 8-10 p.m. dipped by 25 percent from the comparable year-ago evening (11.6/19 on 3/21/12). “Idol,” at present, is still a top 10 rated series, but if slippage of this magnitude continues next season it may no longer be.

Second-place CBS opened the evening with “Survivor: Caramoan” at a very respectable 6.1/10 at 8 p.m., which year-to-year dipped by just eight percent (vs. a 6.6/11 on 3/21/12). But shifting the teams around this early into the season cannot mask this being one of the most poorly cast editions in the history of the franchise. If “Bikal” keeps losing the challenges in upcoming weeks, and chances are they will, we already know which two players are likely to go next.

Next on the Eye net was underrated “Criminal Minds” at a second-place 7.2/11 at 9 p.m. (- 9 percent from the year-ago evening), followed by just renewed granddaddy “CSI” at a dominant 6.9/12 at 10 p.m. (- 7 percent). If CBS is wise, it will leave this Wednesday line-up intact next season.

Elsewhere, distant third-place NBC needs to swing the axe on sophomore sitcom “Whitney,” which kicked-off this third Wednesday in March with a mere 2.5/ 4 (#4) in the overnights at 8 p.m. Next was an encore of “Whitney” at a 1.9/ 3 (#4) at 8:30 p.m., followed by “Law & Order: SVU” (#3: 4.0/ 7) and compatible “Chicago Fire” (#2: 4.2/ 7) from 9-11 p.m. Consider “Chicago Fire” a shoo-in for a second season renewal.

ABC, which populated the night with two hours of repeats, opened with an encore of “The Middle” at a third-place 3.7/ 6 at 8 p.m. Mid-level freshman entry “The Neighbors” almost fully maintained the lead-in with a 3.6/ 6 at 8:30 p.m. (#3), followed by a repeat of “Modern Family” (#3: 4.1/ 7), sophomore “Suburgatory” (#4: 3.5/ 6) and an encore of “Nashville” (#3: 2.1/ 4) from 9-11 p.m. ABC, needless to say, has to decide whether or not to order new seasons of “The Neighbors,” “Suburgatory” and “Nashville.” Since “Suburgatory” is already in season two, it could have the best chance of surviving.

The CW capped off the evening with its already renewed combination of “Arrow” (#5: 2.2/ 4: +57 percent from year-ago occupant “One Tree Hill”) and “Supernatural” (#5: 1.5/ 2: +25 percent from “America’s Next Top Model: British Invasion”).

Each day (except Sunday) we post the TV Ratings for the previous night.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).
