I usually like when comedies do musical episodes, but this one really fell flat for me. (No pun intended.) Rock the Torah was the only really great song in the bunch, and a lot of that was the over-the-top '80s elements thrown into the sequence rather than the song itself.
But the Mother's Day episode was excellent. Great season ender.
Both episodes were excellent, weird, funny, surprising. Classic Raising Hope, all in all.
And, something rare in Raising Hope, it was even emotional when Sabrina said to Virginia that she's been more of a mother to her than her own mother. A fitting ending considering the season started the appearance of Sabrina's mom. That's the second time I remember having a tear in my left eye when watching the show, the previous time being when Hope called Sabrina "mom" for the first time (ep 3.09).
Rock the Torah was beyond amazing, one of my favorite moments from the show, and one of the best scenes I've seen in a while on TV (or on film) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrHbOCqcqF8 Everything about this is just perfect.
Maw Maw's Maw Maw being alive was so 'Raising Hope' of them, I love that idea. Great prosthetics on Cloris Leachman, and that short silent film was so inspired and fun. "Did someone die in here?" :D.
I can't say for sure how season 3 fares compared to season 1, it's been a while - though I think I remember feeling like season 2 improved over season 1, but rewatching all three seasons might be a good idea to assess that. Still, right now I believe season 3 is definitely the best of the entire series, and I know that to me, Raising Hope has been the best comedy series on TV this season.
V_s I know your post is old - sorry. But I wondered if you realized that the entire episode was a riff on the movie "Almost Famous." Best was the AFamous band in the near-miss airplane crash. Thought the Raising Hope version was hilarious - especially the substitute for the bandmember in the movie who admits, "I'm GAAAAY!!!!"
I thought the musical episode was hilarious and the finale was so lovely, I cried quite a bit during it. overall this season has been a huge improvement on the very uneven S2, especially the second half of it. Back to the high standard of S1.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
