Fantastic standalone ep which did forward the Carter plot and speculation on what's going on with the machine. The plot was well executed and had a very creepy tone with the killer/impostor. Nice touch with Carter/Beecher coming to the rescue when I was fully expecting Reese to come to the rescue. Nice to see Bear again, even though I felt sorry for him in the rain that he obviously didn't like... :(
Clue/Scooby-Doo/Halloween episode all rolled into one. Probably my favorite of the season outside Contingency and Bad Code. The revelations about the Machine really make the end of the season (activation of Stanton virus) a lot scarier. If the Machine is analyzing slower now, what will happen in the months to come?
Upset a bit with the lack of Fusco, but it's totally explainable if he was out helping in the storm. Or my personal theory of babysitting Bear, since it worked out so well in Bad Code!
The lightning flash/villain reveal in the police station in full mystery-whodunnit mode cinched the episode for me.
It's a awesome episode, but not my favorite of this season. I like all the suspense, the delevopment of Carter and Beecher relationship (I think this man is danger, the scene of the car explain is temperament), the mistery of the serial killer (man the dialogue between him and Finch was great). Reese kicking some ass, priceless.
My favorite part is all the mistery of the serial killer and the plot of the machine, a lot of question stay in the air. Why the machine not give Finch new numbers for three days? I'm very intriguing to know what the hell is the virus and what his doing to the machine. Why she not working right?
The final dialogue between Finch and the killer is great, even better is Carter appears to save Harold.
Four blue screens appears: 2:21. 14:00, 20:10 and 35:40
Loved the story. Pegged the FBI agent right away, but still really enjoyed the story. But the dialog was just no where close to the series standard...especially during the first couple of acts. Loved that Bear got to go out and enjoy the rain. And he got to help Finch uncover a major clue. :-)
But because of the script issues (i.e. the dialog that kept describing what we were seeing on the screen at that moment) I couldn't give it an awesome. It gets a Great from me tonight.
Really nice episode! I wouldnt call it one of the best but it is certainly one of the most creative episodes that POI has ever aired. Nothing felt like it had been done before in this show. Nice way of acknowledging the fact that they still worry about the virus that Stanton had uploaded. And Shaw gets a mention. Reese, as always was amazing but Michael Emerson showed some great acting talent in his scene with the FBI Agent. Nice standalone ep.
I liked it, but I figured from the beginning that it was going to be the FBI agent so that took away a bit of the suspense... Harold "Gull" (bird reference!) made the episode for me. He was great, and I got Ben Linus flashbacks when he took off his glasses. He even got to say ''You'll never got off the island''!
The Machine was all over the place this week. I'm getting kind of worried. :p Zooming out and back in for no apparant reason, no numbers for three days, and there was barely any camera footage left!
A lot of the machine stuff restored as the storm passed, so I think we were to see that as a factor. I gave it a great as well, as it had some dandy moments but suffered (for me anyway) from the fact that FBI guy was so obviously the villain. Loved Bear in his vest, though!
Although this one seemed stand alone, I really liked it! I knew early on that our fake agent Fahey most likely was the serial killer, but I still enjoyed seeing how it all played out. It definitely had a "Clue" on "Shutter Island" or "Alcatraz" feel to it (really Hitchcock-ish) and it was a creative way to let us know that tide is about to shift and/or as Finch said, The storm is just beginning!
It seems serial killing and identity theft are strong themes this season and I can't imagine where exactly that is going or how the season is going to end, but I have to say the situation here with how the machine malfunctioned and how that ended up putting them into this rather scary, isolated, and precarious situation makes me think we could loose somebody... This is the first episode where I also didn't feel good about Bleacher, but maybe I'll be wrong and he'll surprise me.
Anyways there's little bits of Bad Robot stuff like Ethan (Rom-Lost, Hunt-MI), Matteson (Madsen-Alcatraz, Matheson-Revolution), Fahey (Jeff Fahey -Lost ) and wink to concept Oceanic six, name Jack (Sheppard-Lost, Bristow-Alias, Sylvane-Alcatraz), Movies and scenes in heavy Rain (Lost -Desmond time travel, Fringe- September/Donald "Singing in the Rain" + Black Umbrella)...
The opening in particular I think was over acted, but I understand the idea of bringing the casual viewer up to speed and "remind" us about Stanton...but I thought the dialogue in the second act was good. I particularly liked our serial killer's dialogue with both Reese and Finch through out)
Most of us discuss in sometimes in good lengths "right here" on the comments section, as if it were a forum, but SpoilerTV has a forum too! I haven't updated The Person of Interests threads in a while, since most people seem to discuss here! Feel free to share your thoughts with us :)
A possible (though maybe not intentional) addition to add to your list of BR tidbits. I immediately thought of Henry Gale when the woman named him as Harold Gull. I know that's just following his pattern of using a bird as his surname, but they're quite similar names. And in both cases they flew solo to an island (Gale by balloon and Gull by plane).
I think most of us 'Spoilies' (I think we need a name), tend to use the comments section in the relevent articles most of the time. It keeps things nice and fresh, I think. I personally only use the forum very very rarely. I actually checked it out today because I wanted to post a topic asking which of the current crop of new shows people think are worth checking out, but I saw the relative lack of activity there and decided not to bother.
Just a 'great' for me this week. It was a fun enough episode, and a good set-up for what I think is going to be an entirely new chapter in the wider story. But the 'twist' was obvious from the get-go so the potentially fun Cluedo scenario was entirely wasted.
Also the dragged out 'i'm about to kill the main character only to be twharted in the nick of time by the supporting character' is being a little overdone on this show. Although, I'll admit that the body-armour reveal followed by Beecham's intervention was nicely done.
One more complaint was the complete lack of Fuscoe. He's been very underused this season, and I have a sneaking suspicion that Cal is being set up to become his replacement (read: when Fuscoe dies).
One last thing I noticed. Those of you with clearer speakers might be able to debunk me, but when Emerson said "stay tuned for scenes from our next episode", there seems to be the sound of someone coughing over the word "episode". Haha. Sounds totally weird, but I just listened to it 5 times and I'm sure of it. :)
Totally agree! There was a lot of contrast with him and this serial killer and use of "alias" as we know Ben to have stolen "Henry Gale's" name and the way the serial killer played a bit of a mind game with Finch! Nice find! :D
After such a brilliant episode last week, I thought this one was okay. I think we are just seeing the results from Stanton messing with the machine and it is only going to get worse. More people dying who aren't saved in time.
Nice to see them get out of the city for a change too! Of course I missed seeing Fusco but I certainly don't think he will be replaced by Carter's guy.
One thing I love about POI is it always mixes things up to make it interesting. Having Harold fly in and get arrested was great! I do agree that the scenes between him and the killer were awesome. Loved the cool lighting flash scene! And as usual Harold knows things are only going to get worse.
So, the virus is getting worse and worse. Assuming that the first number in the countdown clock is hours, we've got roughly 63 days left until "zero day" and it can only get worse from here on out.
My god, this show is good! When Carter shot the identity thief, I was like, "He had a body armor!" And then he got up, I literally screamed. It's the best scene of the episode, and the episode is as great as usual. I'm glad the ratings are always good for this show. I can imagine it stay on for more and more seasons.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

Can't wait for next week!
Awesome episode. One of the best this season.
ReplyDeleteI had a feeling the FBI guy wasn't actually FBI and actually the killer. There was something off about him.
The problem with the machine is really worrisome.
Wasn't my favorite episode, but still I tend to love a good Agatha Christie style murder mystery.

ReplyDelete"No, Mr Reese, I have a feeling that it's just begining."
Nuff said. Awesome episode.

The best line of the night.
ReplyDeleteAgreed :)
ReplyDeleteI can't find any active forums on the Internet for this show. Where is everyone discussing it?

Beecher gave me the creeps in this one!
ReplyDeleteAnother great way to describe it! :D

ReplyDeleteI noticed that too and also noticed when the camera shown exterior shots there was voices and non of the show's characters were in sight.

Yeah! Is cool carching this details in the episode.
ReplyDeleteCarter need to discover his past fast.

ReplyDeleteFor a moment i thought my tv was acting up lol then i decided to rewind to make sure and i was wrong it wasn't my tv but the episode lol
ReplyDelete"And What about you?"
ReplyDeleteOMG, I immediately remembered Jacob and Ben in the cave!
How nice wink to us, the Lost fans ;)
I really loved this one too, and I have noticed the same about The Machine.
ReplyDeleteTrue and I think next episode will show more of the virus affecting the machine.
