Welcome back to the Team Winchester Podcast. Up for discussion this week is episode 8.12: As Time Goes By.
Listener beware Lilith had a case of the Negative Nellies but it was only a mild case. Dahne was a bit more positive thanks to no brother fighting. This episode had a lot to love, a lot to nitpick and a lot to wait and see how everything shakes out. Check out what Dahne and Lilith thought of this game changing episode.

  1. A lot to love, a lot to nitpick - that pretty much sums up the episode for me.

  2. Interesting podcast.

This episode definitely poses a lot of questions and gives no answers at all.

As I said in another thread, I liked it because after all the depressing, joyless brother hating of the previous episodes, it was a breath of fresh air as far as the brotherly bond was concerned and I'm glad that Dean in his conversation with Henry in the car stressed that bond, however I wish that Sam too would get a chance to confirm his love for his brother, something that has been denied him since the horrible 'not looking for Dean in Purgatory' fiasco.

In my opinion, all the controversial elements this episode throws out can't be analysed yet.
It will all have to wait until we get more information on where the writers go with this new direction as there are many ways it could develop.

Are they going to separate the brothers by making Sam "Keeper of the Knowledge" and send Dean out to do the hunting with some new or old 'remodelled ' character; are they just going to use the place as a hide-out and keep hunting 'normal' monsters of the week in the Impala or are they going t be able to use this new information to easily defeat all-comers seeing that they are seriously inferior power-wise to angels, demons. etc?

Let's be honest, Crowley could have killed them off whenever he wanted to and I'm sure this new Naomi could snap her fingers and mince them up quite easily too!
So until we know more, I reserve judgement on this new myth-arc direction.

Just a thought. We've seen all the boys' grandparents now except Henry's wife.

Is she still alive or not? She'd be around sixty now, still viable.

Could she ever show up, I wonder? The Winchester matriarch!

  3. I've been reading the comments. I think Sam showed a major show of love when he accepted Dean's suggestion for having fun as a major part of life and talked about the two of them doing it. That was a major opening for Sam to Dean. You can't say he hasn't. As for splitting them up. Sam will do what he has always done..research. He'll look for a case, because what they have now will show them things they didn't know existed. It's a whole new world in some aspects. In others, it's the same old same old but with new ways to deal with it. They will still hunt together. Dean will still be the leader in the hunt. Sam will be the major researcher, only he has so much more to explore and go through.

  4. That basically sums up being a die hard fan for almost any show, LOL!

  5. Well, I did love Deanna Campbell though we didn't get much of her. But I think I'm done with Winchester relatives altogether, at least for a very long time.

  6. How exactly is Dean the leader in the hunt? I for one have seen both be the brawn and brains even though they both show a preference for one over the other, but mostly it takes both for a case to be solved. I'd say 50/50 partnership.

  7. Henry's wife could be alive, but she would be closer to 90. I was born in 1953 and I'm turning 60 this year. OTOH, John's mom could have good genes and still be alive, although if she is I will really call foul that the boys have never mentioned her in all these years. Frankly, if John had a living mother, I think he would have taken Sam and Dean to her after the fire and before he took to hunting. Or at least used her as someone to take care of them when he was out hunting.

  8. Sorry, I'm an idiot! You're right. I mistakenly calculated her to have the same age as John but of course I was way out by at least 20 years.

I'm just curious for all these little tit-bits about the family. If they say she died before Sam and Dean were born, that's fine with me. :)

  9. I liked her too. She seemed a sensible down-to earth person.
As for granny Winchester, We've met everyone else. I was just curious about her. :)

  10. I hope that they never separate.

Sam and Dean are a team and they hunt and research better when they're together than when they are apart.

Anyway I wouldn't be able to assign all the brains to Sam and the brawn to Dean because for me both are equally intelligent just that Sam's intellect veers towards bookishness, whereas Dean is more intuitive and street-wise.

As for the brawn, I would say that both brothers are equal as far a as being top notch hunters are concerned.
