1... I think Shelby is Drew Thompson 2... I can't wait to see what happens when Tim finds out that Colt killed Mark. I so hope Tim doesn't get killed behind this 3... Boyd is the man!! Love how he played the suits but I hope he's not getting hisself in a world of mess with the mafia 4... somethings not right about Arlo being dead... exactly how Raylan told him he would die in the prior episode hmm
I also thought Shelby might be Drew, but that was a passing thought compared to the scene wherein Raylan shoots the hit man. I was expecting trouble and I wondered if Raylan would suspect and I had to laugh out loud when the tension came off as Raylan said, "I hope I got that right." I started watching Justified only this season and watched only a small part of the first season for background. I have to admit I am really liking this show.
Another amazing ep with fantastic moments... Bummer about Arlo dying as I figured that he would go out in a hail of gunfire, (possibly with Raylan) but it was probably best it was this way. I like that several of the threads are starting to cross and weave together, ie. Colton killing Tim's buddy. I hope that they can give Rachel a storyline as well as she's been pretty scarce this season.
They did mention Rachel's marital problem (divorce?), so there is something the narrative has to say about her character, but she is, after all, a supporting character. Arlo dying was poignant and powerful. It will surely make a difference to Raylan.
I thought Shelby might very well be Drew when he was talking with Ellen May and ended his scene with stating if you pretend at something long enough, it stops being pretending. When he asked after Drew's widow and got her location, I became pretty sure it's him.
Raylan's aunt (aka the hill woman) said that last time she saw Drew he was mixing with the mayor and other rich people (or something like that) - prior to Shelby becoming sheriff he wasn't in a position to do that AFAIK.
You don't know that for sure. All we know for sure is that before he was sheriff, he worked for the mining company. We don't even know what he did between those two jobs.
So guess who was correct about Arlo dying? Me!! I'm kind of relived I didn't want it to be anyone else even if I will miss that old bastard and who knows still 5 episodes left after about 7 people died this week no one is safe.
Fantastic episode, great restrained performance from Olyphant I thought in dealing with Raylan's very complicated emotions over his father's death.
Shelby being Drew was practically lit up in neon lights this week, feel like it has to be him now because it has to be someone we know. Either that or Art is trolling the lot of them and is Drew ha
You're right - and having rewatched the episode I'm actually liking your theory more.. especially the way Shelby acted having found out where Drew's ex was... perhaps to avoid running into her or so he could contact her and make sure she doesn't id him??
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Amazing episode and I LOVE that Boyd said the title, "I AM the outlaw." How has this show not gotten more recognition?
ReplyDeleteI loved the scene when Raylan shot the guy!!! This is my favorite scene from every show have scene since the Bitch slap scene in Entourage!!!!
ReplyDeleteRaylan shooting the assassin was pretty awesome.

ReplyDeleteHe liked would. Assuming that Shelby is Drew Thompson. Would Justified really go with something that's become that obvious?
ReplyDeleteIt could be what they want us to think? Or could be a double bluff?
