NB: Written by myself, Fanmisa and Perlnoire.
Earlier this month, I came up with an idea. For the shows on the main networks - ABC, CBS, C/W, FOX and NBC - we will be doing season so far recaps. These will be posted just before that show's season finale, as to remind you all what has happened so far that season. With the CSI: NY season finale coming up tonight, here is the first of our season recaps.
We begin the season 6 months on from the events of the season 8 finale, 'Near Death', in which Mac was shot. We expect that he is recovered, and some jokes, betting and his emotions seem to support this. He is also still with Christine, who is shown to have been with him throughout his long recovery.
However, in the second episode, 'Where There's Smoke..', we see a problem in Mac's recovery. He is struggling to remember simple things: names of colours, objects. This is a season long battle (to call it a battle), and Mac is not always open about it. He didn't tell Christine at first, and only told her after some questions from Jo. Fortunately, this didn't affect their relationship, with Mac telling Christine that he loves her.
This love became clearer than ever in the CSI/CSI NY crossover event, in which Christine was kidnapped. His devotion to get her back, going rogue - something he's not done before - gave us insight into how much he does love Christine. He got her back, just in time for Valentine's day.
Along with Mac and Christine's relationship, we were introduced to a love interest for Flack, Detective Jamie Lovato. Their 'flirtationship' has stemmed throughout the season.
At the start of the season, showrunner Pam Veasey said that the team would have personal episodes, i.e see what happens in their personal life. The first of these personal episodes was for Flack. Episode 5 saw him with his sister, Sam and grandmother discovering things that his father had left. The discovery brought Flack and Sam closer together. The two of them got to spread their father's ashes in Yankee Stadium. It was a thoroughly emotional episode.
Next up was Lindsay. She went back to Montana for the execution of the man that killed her friends as a child. It was closure for her, and we got to see more of her as a child. Then, in episode 10, we got to see Adam's past. It was revealed that his father was abusive towards Adam and his mother, and that he now has Alzheimer's. It was interesting to see the backstory of Adam, and Adam's emotions running free.
We then saw something incredibly sad to do with Sid. He had been donating million dollar checks to 'the loved ones of victims' in cases that he had previously worked. When Jo asks why he's doing it, the medical examiner reveals to her that he has non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. In the penultimate episode of the season last week, Sid begins to make mistakes, most likely due to this medical condition.
Jo's personal episode came along, and a pretty extraordinary one at that. It was shown that her sister had died in a car crash, and that her heart had been transplanted into a man who would have otherwise died. The man managed to meet Jo, and was able to thank her for her sister's misfortune saving his life.
Not all the episodes were a sad backstory though. In Jo's episode, 'Nine Thirteen', it was revealed that Lindsay was once again pregnant. Last week, it was revealed that the unborn child would be a boy. A happy thing for the whole team to think about.
And that is that. Tonight we have the season 9 finale, entitled 'Today is Life', in which the shooting of an unarmed man sparks unrest in the community. It should be a good episode. And I have a predicton for tonight's finale: Mac will ask Christine to marry her (or vice versa).
Do you think there will be a tenth season of the show? Do you agree with my prediction? Give your opinion below, or on my Twitter.

Tonights episode looks awesome !
sorry to answer at his place :P ... CSI NY is in danger to be canceled, yes, so it might be the serie's final too ... that makes 2 years that CSI NY is in danger, so we had always seasons finale without any cliffhanger in case they don't renew it .. tonight will be the same I guess ... we still have to wait some weeks/month to know if CBS renew it or not, rating of tonight ep will make the difference I think :)
ReplyDeleteIt was a good season so far, at least the episodes I watched were good , like the personal stuff so it was great ... I hope we'll have a season 10 to give CSI NY a 200th episode :)))
ReplyDeleteI hope so too. However, this article http://www.spoilertv.com/2013/02/covert-affairs-season-4-casting-news.html makes me think that we won't get it. :(
ReplyDeleteI think this has been one of their best seasons and I hope CBS gives us a Season 10!
ReplyDeleteok no problem :)
