The services of brainy beauty Felicity Smoake will very much be in need as Arrow travels forward. As such, the CW drama has promoted actress Emily Bett Rickards to a series regular for the just-ordered Season 2.
I guess this is the official announcement because I've known about this for awhile. At any rate Emily is the bees knees and I can't wait until she drags Ollie into the Arrow Cave this week. So Team Arrow combo name Jollicity? I'll keep working on it...
I'm not sure she's needed as a series regular, but she and Moira are definitely my two favorite female characters on the show. Laurel and Thea are two horribly one-note characters that came right off an assembly line (Thea - Bratty Teenager Who Hates Her Mom, Laurel - Generic Female Character/Love Interest With No Personality).
Tell me about it, Katie cassidy is a humiliation to this series, a horriible and unappealing actress. And she is supposed to be the leading lady. You can tell that she is not in this show by her own merit bu justbecause she is some celeb's kid .
Let me get this straight: You think because her dad was Keith Partridge, the CW is "favoring" her?
CW keeps all of it's actors inside the fold and makes sure they get auditions across the network. Virtually the entire cast was at some point a guest star on another show on the network.
Cassidy was lauded as the breakout star on the short-lived Melrose Place revival, and while I don't really have any strong feelings about her character, I don't really see where the hate comes from either. It's a pretty stark overreaction to a whole lot of nothing.
Great news. I like her, but most importantly, bringing her into the Arrow-cave on a regular basis gives them a way to tie plot strings together without the wholly unbelievable "Diggle and/or Oliver somehow know how to hack computers and invent things" stuff.
Amazing news, she's the best female character on the show by far! I really like her chemistry with Oliver, good to know there will be more. I wouldn't mind if they went more tthan platonic.
People hate her characters for a number of reasons, one of them being that she was shacking up with Oliver's best friend in the years after his supposed death, and that they're not currently together now. If that doesn't make any logical sense to hate a character to you, then don't worry, it's just not logical at all.
Personally, she stopped being annoying to me when she stopped trying to make Oliver feel terrible for his actions every time she spoke to him.
I think it's the writing of the character more than the portrayal. Laurel is just plain not likable especially when she's being a hypocrite over secrets and manipulating people. She comes off as self-righteous and at times a whiny brat. I hope to see a massive character overhaul in season 2.
Actually in as much as I HATE love triangles, it's not the fact that she's with Tommy instead of Oliver that annoys me. Oliver and Laurel thus far have not been anything great on screen. In fact, I think Tommy is the most sympathetic one of the three. Until he goes evil, he's the best of the trio to me.
Good to know. Unlike with Supernatural, I have been avoiding all Arrow spoilers except for the promos at the end of each episode and sometimes I don't even see those if the live stream glitches and they need to catchup. Not sure why but I think it's because I don't know anything about the comics and so I never have anything to add when people are comparing the two.
I'm not a stranger to comics but I never read any Green Arrow stuff so neither do I. Although, I'm of the opinion that this series is so fond of changing and adapting characters to meet their needs that most comparisons to the comics don't really accomplish much anyway.
I think I like this show better because I don't come in with any preconceived notions. I for instance had no clue who Deathstroke was so his episode didn't bother me. Full disclosure - the only comic books I've ever read are some of the Supernatural and Buffy series and one on kids who find out their parents are supervillians so they become superheroes. I think it was called Runaways maybe. I bought it for the library because it had an interesting premise.
He was gone 5 years and she thought he was dead.... it's not like they jumped in bed the moment he was gone. IIRC I think they said it was about the two year point that they got together.
I also have very few preconceived notions due to my relatively scant experience with the material and I like it better that way. Also (fun fact) Joss Whedon wrote a six issue story arc of The Runaways. :)
Like I said, it's not logical. ;) Personally, I don't really care if she's with Tommy as long as she's happy. It will give Oliver enough time to hook up with the smoking hot nerd he keeps getting involved with.
What I like most about how this show has handled those three is that it is NOT a love triangle. They've avoided any and all drama in that direction and made Oliver pretty mature and supportive in his handling of that relationship.
I'm interested in the long run in how (or if) they take Laurel into the direction of The Black Canary and what changes with that, but other than that, I'm not really hating or loving anything Laurel does.
I don't understand Laurel hate. For me, she is a really good character. And come on, any character is "the best tv character in the whole TV". We are talking about CW, guys. But it's an enjoyable show, so enough for me (and yes, Laurel is enjoyable too). I like Felicity but as Oliver' friend. Nothing romantic.
Agreed. When they first mentioned Laurel and Tommy together, I was rolling my eyes hard. Now I hardly think of it as a love triangle until they do those annoying longing glances. For the CW, this love triangle that isn't is kind of a miracle.I also like how far in the background it currently is. There are much bigger happenings in Oliver's life and the story reflects that.
I've been waiting for this to happen for a while now. She's definitely one of my favourites. Now I just hope Colton Haynes does well as Roy Harper and they can bump him up to a regular as well. I feel like that is all that's missing for the main cast to be complete.
Oh, if anything I think we'll be seeing more of her in the remaining Season 1 episodes. Tonight's episode has a big development with her, and she's in the promo pics for next week.
I'm really glad that she's been promoted, I enjoy seeing her, and I was really worried that she might get killed by knowing too much, She could become the Chloe Sullivan of Arrow...that would be very nice to see...
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Heh. Emily Bett Rickards has been upped to regular. Felicity Smoak is her character's name.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great news. I like her.
ReplyDeletetqwfagduhb<sv!!!!
ReplyDeleteYAY!!! I was so waiting this when they anounced the renewal!! Felicity is the ensemble darkhorse of this show!
I called this ages ago, and I'm so glad! She brings in some comedy to the show which is great.
ReplyDeleteI like her, great news.
ReplyDeleteYay, I really like her.
ReplyDeleteI like her, and i hate most of the female cast on this show (Katie Cassidy is horribel, or horribel used on the show).
ReplyDeleteAbout time, she just adds something that was missing from this show... good acting.
ReplyDeleteThat's great! Felicity is such a fun character!
ReplyDeleteYess! she's great on the show
ReplyDeleteYay, I love her
ReplyDeleteYay! She's so cute!
ReplyDeleteYes yes yes, this is good news. She's the only female character I actually like in Arrow.
ReplyDeleteI guess this is the official announcement because I've known about this for awhile. At any rate Emily is the bees knees and I can't wait until she drags Ollie into the Arrow Cave this week. So Team Arrow combo name Jollicity? I'll keep working on it...

ReplyDeleteOh, you`re going to get downvoted by the big scary CW-crowd on this site right now.
ReplyDeleteYay!!!

ReplyDeleteYesss! I like her very much (I like Laurel as well though)

Awesome. Diggle and she are the best characters on the show. I expect she'll learn Oliver's secret identity soon then.

ReplyDeleteUh, without spoiling anything, I can say with certainty that Felicity will learn Oliver's secret very soon. :)

ReplyDeleteNot to mention, Oliver was sleeping with her sister so that relinquishes any claim he might have had on her.
ReplyDeleteReally. That's awesome! I'll have to see if I read his episodes.

ReplyDeleteI mean, FINALLY?! :D I just love her, she's the funniest thing in Arrow :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad, I like her better than Laurel actually!!!!! She's smart, beautiful and funny :D love the chemistry between her and Oliver!!!
