Another Vampire Diaries standout is headed to the potential spinoff series. Daniel Gillies is set to star opposite Joseph Morgan and Phoebe Tonkin in The Originals, which will be introduced as an upcoming episode of Vampire Diaries that will air April 25, serving as a potential backdoor pilot.

I'm sure this will make more than a few people happy.
ReplyDeleteok, this whole spin-off idea is starting to be really confusing.
ReplyDeleteIt needs Rebekah too as regular
ReplyDeleteWell... I don't know about that. (Warning: I'm about to be a major buzzkill)
ReplyDeleteI like Elijah but so far this spinoff has the good brother, the bad brother, and the curious human girl drawn to all things dark and sinister. Seems familiar, doesn't it?
Good, now take Kol with you as well, just leave Rebekah in Mystic Falls. Girl is way too hot to let go off.
ReplyDeleteStill not sure how I feel about this spin-off but adding Daniel Gillies is great =) the only Original I actually like.
ReplyDeleteSmart move.If only they didn't feel the need to introduce a human girl who knows nothing of the supernatural world.
ReplyDeleteI want Claire Holt and Nathaniel Buzolic to join the cast as well. It'll be cool to see all them interact with each other on a regular basis.
Human girl? Haley is a werewolf. That could be really interesting.
ReplyDeleteI am cynical enough to withstand your wet blanket tendencies. :) I won't disagree if they do that JM and DG will have a hard road to walk. I just don't think it likely they will so blatantly reset the series with *slightly* different characters. I think there is potential for stories more about power and control and tricky machinattions and less about keeping a silly girl alive. I am hoping that they don't fight over Haley. There hasn't been much between her and Klaus yet anyway and she seems a bit "low class" for him. The reports have always reminded me a bit more of Interview with a Vampire than TVD and as much as I appreciate something new rather than redoing something I've already both read and seen, I think it has a better chance in that vein.
ReplyDeleteI still have hope. And I'm happy about this "good" brother joining (he is so much less annoying that Stefan).
What about Rebekah and Kol??? Oh, and here's an idea: how about killing Hayley right in the Pilot? I think it would be a such a stunner! ;-)
ReplyDeleteDidn't they kill Mikael?
ReplyDeleteThe lead female role of the spinoff is a girl who attends Tulane University.
ReplyDeleteYeah, they did. I may have not read the story about the spin-off well enough haha - I just assumed it was going to be a series prequel, not a continuation. Now I feel dumb. And possibly sad. I was interested in more of their history. Though I suppose The Vampire Diaries does enough flashbacks as it is, so there's no reason The Originals wouldn't work the same way... in which case I may get my wish anyway! Mikael can come back in flashbacks.
ReplyDeleteWow, it took a stream of consciousness to figure this out, but I think I'm going to be happy either way now haha
Flashbacks always work. I mean wigs, hello! Sebastian Roche is usually awesome, so he's never a bad thing. (I did get a little tired of Klaus' daddy issues though.)
ReplyDeleteI can't argue with you there - it's like they desperately needed a way to make Klaus seem weak so they latched on to daddy and beat it to death.
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't think the spinoff will retread too much TVD material. I just couldn't help taking a dig at the TVD writers and their penchant for repetition. :)
ReplyDeleteWasn't sure about this, and I'm still not what with Julie Plec helming this, but now I'll at least check it out for Daniel Gilles/Elijah!
ReplyDeleteLOL. Well, I fell for it!
ReplyDeletei agree, she should not be at the helm of the show, she is way too biased in what she does
ReplyDeletei think a spin-off could be bad for the TVD ratings .. there sure are a people who watch TVD because of the Originals and I'm afraid if they do a spin-off some of this people would only watch the spin-off and not TVD
ReplyDeleteDefinitely agree with you about Claire and Nathaniel on the show as well.
ReplyDeletemte
ReplyDeleteThe lead female is Phoebe Tonkin as Hayley.
ReplyDeletethe originals are the most interesting on TVD to me, I hope when they have their own show it doesn't become boring... like with endless love triangles...
ReplyDeleteShe's a series regular. Nowhere has it said anything about her as the female lead. That will, in all likelihood go to the yet to be cast Camille:
ReplyDelete" a Tulane psychology student who will take an interest in Klaus because she's intrigued by the darker aspects of the French Quarter. Yes, Camille will be human; but, no, she will not be aware of the supernatural aspects surrounding our favorite Original Hybrid.
She will simply be drawn to Klaus because she's anxious to know: What makes an individual evil."
I wonder what Phoebe Tonkin's role will be. Should she continue playing 'Hayley', the only role I can think of is her playing an hybrid serving as Klaus right hand woman. I don't think there's a demand for her as a werewolf. My own personal theory is that they'll find the cure and Elena will be human once again (so Klaus can make hybrids again).
ReplyDeleteI just saw this on Twitter and I am jumping up and down happy! I was worried Saving Hope would keep him too tied up, but THIS is Fan-tastic!!!
ReplyDeleteMore Elijah on the screen, I´m happy :)
ReplyDeleteSounds good, I guess, though I'm not as huge a fan of Elijah as everyone else. The person I'm hoping to see head that way is Sebastian Roche. I absolutely loved him as Mikael, and think he's great in general, so I'd love to see more of him in this new venture.
ReplyDeleteexcellent move. they need rebekah as well though, she is by far my favorite original
ReplyDeletegood for Daniel Gillies but how does that work with Saving Hope season 2?
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to this spin-off sooo much!! Perhaps CW finally found the series which will have success (probably) airing after TVD :-) Hayley, Klaus, now Elijah... i think that's great casting.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to go with the story. In some ways. Kind of like how they talk about things happening off screen but don't show it. This is more showing what we wouldn't usually see. I think.
