The Following scored a 3.3 demo in the top 25 markets.

  1. If its anything like that when we get the fast nationsla for all markets later than thats pretty ok, I belive Alcatraz premiered with a 3.3 last season? Alcatraz tanked pretty quickly but that doesnt mean the same will happen to The Following, I guess it will depend on how well the pilot was recieved and how the coming episodes unfold. I've heard good things so far.

  2. given its lead in, its competetion and the nature of the show itself I think its pretty reasonable. It will likely only have to average around the mid 2's to be renewed given the state of FOX's season so far.

  3. @disqus_0mFluLK8Pm:disqus Fox's average Demo for scripted shows this year is around 1.9, so this will be extremely pleasing to the FOX execs. The key will be the next 2 episodes ratings and how much it drops by

  4. Ahh nice!
I guessed 2.7 - 2.9, but noted I wouldn't be surprised if it was over 3 for the pilot.

It will be interesting to see how it does next week. I think the darkness of the series will be a polarizing factor, some will not watch it again and some (hopefully the majority) will be tuning in week to week....

  5. Alcatraz had so many issues...
I felt Alcatraz was doomed from the start dispute enjoying the pilot a fair amount. It was one of those poorly done shows I could enjoy even with all of its flaws....

I think The Following pilot was a much higher quality episode and will hold more steady, but how much more I'm not sure.... I hope.

  6. Maybe if Fox did not have such an awful rep of axing shows to quickly, viewers would take a chance and watch. I am always leery about starting one of their shows.

  7. I watched but I don't think I'll continue I liked Alcatraz more than this and it tanked. I really like Kevin bacon but the last 15 minutes of the show turned me off completely..

  8. What a scary beginning! This is far worst than anything. Serial killers are scary because they are so random but joining them together in a cult. Wow you have no idea who to trust!

  9. I thought it would be higher

  10. My guess is that these are the fast ratings too. Fox has been pushing the DVR use very heavily for this show (due to the violent nature of the show they want to give people a chance to watch it when kids aren't up or people can watch it away it from other people uncomfortable with the violence/gore).

So I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a bump in a day or two and Fox seems more willing than normal to embrace DVR numbers with this particular show. Because of that and the fact that almost everywhere online seems to indicate that the Pilot was received well by audiences and people will be turning back in next week (have to wait and see though to see if that's true though) if the nationals are anything like this, I would think Fox must consider this at LEAST a moderate success if not more.

Personally though this is kind of what I predicted ratings wise. Yes the stuff on cable (i.e. Dexter, The Walking Dead, etc) is or can be much worse when it comes to gore or violence, but this is network television. And you could argue that CSI, Criminal Minds, etc are just as bad, but they typically only have one or two scenes a weeks where they only show the crime scene usually or cut away before you see the crime happen. Also this is in the thriller/horror genre (which I love, but isn't for everyone). Really Fox is breaking into some new territory and testing the limits of what's been done.
