Supernatural - Song-to-Scene - 3B - Poll

13 Jan 2013

Round three started with a bang. Both Renegade (85%) and Back in Black (83%) decimated their opponents. Things were a lot closer for Knockin' on Heaven's Door (56%) and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas (55%), which happened to be the two polls I had trouble choosing. I would expect today to contain 2-3 blowouts again as we wend our way to the elite 8. At least this is marginally easier than yesterday for me with the exception of the first poll. How is voting going for you?

  1. 1. Both - If it were favorite scene, it would be mowing the lawn. If it were favorite song, it would be What a Wonderful World (but not by as big a margin). Song-to-scene is harder. To be honest I cringe halfway through Wanted Dead or Alive because of the terrible singing, but then it punches me right in the heart with Dean's fearful stare after distracting Sam. Both the lyrics and the mood fit both songs-to-scene perfectly. Argh! This contest makes my head ache. I guess….Wanted Dead or Alive because in this one the song plays a more pivotal role in the scene.

    2. Rock of Ages - I love Highway to Hell as a song-to-series choice but as a song-to-scene it is weak. Basically it's another scene with the brothers on the road in the Impala, whereas Rock of Ages fits the scene well due to the editing.

    3. O Death - I didn't vote for Simple Man in the last one because I like the video montage much more than the song-to-scene. The lyrics don't fit for me so it certainly does not get my vote against the juggernaut of perfection that is O Death, which feels like it was made for the show specifically.

    4. A Well-Respected Man - Again no contest. The Gambler works as song-to-character but lacks a lot in song-to-scene. Well-Respected Man did a great job of emphasizing how alternate the reality was going to get in It's a Terrible Life. I can't think of a better song for the scene.

  2. The only hard one was the first one..totally different scenes and songs, so went with the one that hit me in the gut.. Wanted Dead or Alive

Rock of Ages, but I loved Highway to Hell, for me it is the theme for this series, but does not fit the scene as well.

    EASY ONE...O Death

This was another close one, but I went with The Gambler.

  3. I hated the first one but had to go with Wanted Dead of Alive.

I love Highway to Hell but Rock of Ages was the right one for the episode it was used for.

I believe both songs on this one were right for the episode but O Death for Death was just a little better, I guess.

I had to go with Simple Man although I liked The Gambler as well.

  4. 1. What A Wonderful World - Wanted Dead Or Alive is great too, so whichever wins I'm happy. I just think What A Wonderful World fit a bit more. Not all of the lyrics for Dead or Alive fit its scene.

    2. Rock Of Ages - please! Highway to Hell isn't as good as this for its scene imo

    3. O Death - Loved Simple Man, have it on CD, but O Death fits its scene a lot more.

    4. A Well-Respected Man - The Gambler is more of a theme song to me.

  5. I didn't find the singing that bad - maybe cause I hear worst all the time. My mom and I are car singers. lol

And the Winchesters singing in the Christmas episode was way worst.

  6. Ahhhhhh!!! Too hard. :(

  7. 1) Difficult. But I picked What a Wonderful World {sniff} one of these two must
    ....leave.

    2) Easy. I've not been a fan of the Highway to Hell song-to-scene. So picking
....Rock of Ages is easy. I still think it's on the BEST ENTRANCE EVER list.

    3) Easy. O Death

    4) I like that these two specific STSs (song-to-scenes) are up against each other. Both
....are heavy character establishing moments and both work wonderfully as STSs. But
....I had to pick A Well-Respected Man Not to difficult but I'm unhappy to see
    ....The Gambler go.

  8. Ha! I think the only reason the Silent Night rendition was worse was because they were completely on their own. At least in this scene, I can sometimes focus on the radio instead of them.

  9. I will be okay with whichever one wins the first poll too. Still sad that they can't both move on but I think both represent this contest well. Maybe I should be pulling for a tie.

  10. These were surprisingly easy for me except for the first one. I think O Death is more in the best entrance ever but Rock of Ages was really good too.

  11. 1. Wanted Dead or Alive
    2. Rock of Ages
    3. O Death
    4. A Well-Respected Man

  12. Wanted Dead or Alive.

Although the singing was nothing to write home about, it gets my preference because both brothers were involved and it was a very meaningful moment for them.
However I loved the other song to scene too.
    X
    Highway To Hell.

The road to Hell starts with a single turn of the Impala's wheels towards Stanford where Jess is going to be toasted on the ceiling so I would say that was pretty hellish.

    X
O Death. To me far more spot-on than the other one.
    X
A Well-respected Man. Great song to scene

  13. The first poll really is a dichotomy. The mood and situations are about as different as you can get. Makes a hard poll even more difficult since both are excellent songs-to-scene.

  14. I also love how they used Highway to Heaven but I agree that Rock of Ages was superior as a song-to-scene. There's too much typical driving scene in the Pilot choice for me to consider it a strong song-to-scene.

  15. hmm. You know, I've never thought of the O Death scene in that light. But you're exactly right (and yes, I did my Homer impression)....it is an awesome entrance. I've always dumped it in the category with The Gambler and Well Respected Man.
