-Ratings Breakdown:
It was an easy overnight Wednesday victory for Fox care of two-hours of American Idol, which averaged a 10.3 rating/16 share from 8-10 p.m. (peaking in the 8:30 p.m. half hour, with a 10.7/17). Comparably, however, this was 17 percent below the one-hour edition one year earlier (12.4/19 from 8-9 p.m. on 1/25/12). Regardless, there will be no shortage of sparks flying between new judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj, which makes the current season a better option creatively than the bland Jennifer Lopez/Steven Tyler era. Consider this former viewer back!

Over at CBS, a repeat of Criminal Minds in place of regularly scheduled Survivor (which returns with a two-hour edition on February 13) opened with a third-place 4.3/ 7 in the overnights at 8 p.m. Next was the regularly scheduled edition of underrated Criminal Minds (#2: 8.0/12), followed by the forensics crime solver that keeps on ticking, CSI, at a dominant 7.4/13 at 10 p.m.

Modern Family on ABC was the standout, of course, with a 7.9/12 in the overnights at 9 p.m. (#2, tied with Criminal Minds on CBS). Comparably, that built from lead-in The Neighbors (#3, 4.3/ 7 at 8:30 p.m.) by 84 percent. But lead-out Suburgatory, like any sitcom airing out of Modern Family, dropped by a hefty 43 percent with a third-place 4.5/ 7 at 9:30 p.m. That led into critically acclaimed drama Nashville at a second-place 4.2/ 7 at 10 p.m.

Earlier in the evening on ABC was always reliable The Middle at a solid second-place 6.0/10 at 8 p.m.

Elsewhere, NBC was in all repeats with its combination of sophomore Whitney (#5: 2.2/ 4), which should not have been granted a second season, recent entry Guys With Kids (#5: 1.8/ 3), veteran Law & Order: SVU (#4: 2.1/ 3) and freshman Chicago Fire (#3: 2.1/ 3), which should have no troubled snagging a second season renewal given the compatibility out of SVU. As for Guys With Kids, the chance of continuing past this spring is slim.

On The CW, bona feed keeper Arrow doubled the overnight performance of year-ago occupant One Tree Hill, with a fourth-place 2.4/ 4 in the overnights at 8 p.m. And Arrow, no doubt, is clearly resonating among The CW’s target audience. While lead-out Supernatural (#5: 1.4/ 4 at 9 p.m.) remains on the year to year plus side (when it aired in the Friday 9 p.m. hour), retention of only 58 percent out of Arrow means The CW could be putting this time period to better use.

LOL, Marc is his old self again. Can't say I missed it, though.

I'm sad that Supernatural slipped. It was a pretty good episode, IMO.

  2. I dont know Mr Berman 8 season old SPN getting a 0.9 compared to freshman Arrow's 1.1 last week doesnt really support your case for putting the time slot to better use.
Besides I'm not sure one should listen to what an American Idol fans says.
That being said I recon SPN will be down this week.

  3. We were beginning to worry!!!Supernatural is doing great you immature idiot.Chances are it's going to reach ten seasons so suck it up.

  4. Why don't you direct your comments to Marc on his site? He won't see them here?

  5. I think Elena is just venting lol. I did go on his site earlier though, I was mobile but from what I could tell nobody comments on any of his articles. Either nobody wants too, or they do and he deletes them all.

  6. I will gladly do it!!Don't think that wasting my words for him will change anything though.I just write here so people can see that he mostly wants to attant SPN. Sorry if my comment was a bit inappropriate for here. But he clearly hates this show for no specific reason!!

  7. Ha that's ok Elena. I was just making sure you realized that he probably would not see you comment :)

  8. Not bad for an 8 season show.

  9. I actually found his comment on it to be more positive than anything he's said about it before (Although he's probably just holding back to avoid the hate).
I don't think the bit about it being put to better use was really a jab at Supernatural. As much as I love the combo of Arrow and Supernatural, from the networks point of view that's definitely going to be prime real estate for a new series (most likely Amazon if they end up going ahead with it).
You're definitely right though, he has a totally unreasonable grudge against Supernatural.

  10. we dont the demo ratings yet, could be ok

  11. he does get 100's of comments on the forum posts though, not siding with him, just saying :)

  12. actually steady from last week

  13. ah fair enough, I have not seen them.

  14. Surprised he lists Nashville as Modest, I would agree it's ratings were more on the 'loser' side than Suburgatorys as well. Neighbors is also more deserving of a 'loser' title too...

  15. It's a shame the idiot hasn't paid attention to how Pedowitz looks at ratings. He knows the Nielsen box doesn't do much for Supernatural. The fans stream it, watch on the CW, DVR it, and borrow it from friends, so he knows there's a much higher rating than is seen this way. If you are going to judge ratings of shows, look at how they are normally viewed. He seriously needs to learn his job better.

  16. Demos came out Supernatural is fine Arrow 1.1, Supernatural .9 still good. Berman's initial numbers got over written as well Arrow now has 3.13 total Supernatural 2.10 which came out to 70% retention. Berman's quest to be first makes him fairly inaccurate. Add in his prejudices on certain shows and his comments become really stupid.

  17. Berman has always had a hard on for retention of total viewers. He ignores the fact that advertisers pay for certain demographics. He also just wants certain shows to be canceled. Strange and biased reporter, but he gets his numbers out first, so he gets readers. Sadly, his numbers are often disproved when the later numbers come out. He's the ultimate case of "the early bird gets the worm", but he doesn't get the correct one.

  18. In women 18-34, The CW's target demo, both Supermatural and Arrow did 0.8. The same of Carrie and Hart of Dixie and a little more than 90210 and Emily Owens (both 0.7).
Don't shoot the messenger, I'm just reporting!

  19. I figure he has the article and someone must be reading/supporting it. I don't find his comments that far off. Course that might change if he ever slams something I love. :)

  20. "-Losers: Suburgatory (ABC)" Good God, if Suburgatory is a looser with 6,3m viewers / 2.3A18-49, what is Nashville with 5,5m viewers / 1.8A18-19 ? "Modest" ? Marc, you can't be serious. Even with a lead-in like Modern Family, that's good (knowing that all the others lead-out Modern Family ever had failed, Suburgatory is doing okay).

  21. Arrow is getting more and more viewers every week! Can see this lasting a few seasons.
Criminal Minds good ratings as usual.

  22. Yep, we posted all those in the table lol Not sure why they needed repeating :)

And it was. Even the total viewers were a bit (little, little bit) up from the previous episode. :D

I know he only gets the overnights, but it was down from the last week, so I was worried. I'm glad that the ratings were ok. :)
