  1. I actually really enjoyed this episode. It was kind of nice to meet a member of the boys' family that wasn't a kickass hunter. The whole "Men of Letters" thing was really intriguing, and it was nice to see a relative that was a bit more genteel.

Toward the end, I got so scared that Dean snapped Henry's neck. I mean, what a way to assassinate Dean's character. I know he'll go to hell and back to protect Sam, but killing his own flesh and blood to do so? I don't think he could live with being the reason his father had an unfortunate childhood. I am sad he had to die in the end, though. That's another death the boys are going to feel responsible for for a while.

And the Devil's Trap carved into the bullet thing? So cool. I always love when the boys learn new things.

This episode really just reinforced my belief that the series will end with the boys going out in a blaze of glory, saving the world one last time. They sure don't have a lot of luck when it comes to family, blood or otherwise, and I can't see them really finding a happily ever after in all the rubble, even if it meant that the two of them could grow old together. The show seems to prove time and time again that it's not their style, as much as they might want it to be.

  2. It was awesome! I didn't think I was going to like Henry's backstory, but it worked. Poor John. Poor Henry. Poor Sam and Dean.

And we got Worried!Dean and Sam's the only thing that matters to him and al;skdjflaksjdf. John feels all over the place too.

Loved all the season one flashbacks in the previously on, too. Great episode!

  4. :( Poor henry, with the line in In the beginning I was hoping he would come back...I guess John's mom just remarried.......that's so sad....this show is trying to kill us

  5. Best episode this season. This is probably going to be one of those ones I can watch again and again.

  6. At first, I was worried that this episode was going to be a let down since it was written by Adam Glass, but thankfully I was wrong. Best episode that he has written so far. Funny, emotional, it had it all, everything that I always loved about Supernatural was in this episode, and season 8 is beginning to become one of my favorite seasons. It was also great seeing the brothers on the same page and getting along. They started to talk to each other again like how they use to. And how Dean cares so much about Sam, because he's the only family he has left was heartwarming to hear him say that. I was a little bit sad during this episode, because of some events and conflicts that occur in the episode, but at the same time I felt it gave a solid explanation of why John think Henry abandoned him. The thing Abaddon was trying to retrieve from john ( I forget what it's called) is really intriguing me, I want to learn more about it, and I think it will have a large roll to play in the whole season. Overall I thought this episode was fantastic and one of my favorites this season. Things are starting to pick up! 8.7/10

  7. I thought it was embarrasing. The performances were great and Serge's direction beautiful, and I loved how they defeated Abbadon in the end.
But it was 2/3 exposition of things that weren't recognizable in the SPN universe & John's childhood was retconned against canon Carver himself wrote. The brothers' characterizations seemed cliched at times, and the speech Dean gives in the car at the end, about not being able to save John and not wanting it to happen to Sam too - made it seem like Dean forgot selling his soul for Sam and Sam jumping in the cage in Swan Song.
Glass seems to write without an awareness of what went before & did a poor job holding my interest through most of it. I'm feeling disillisioned with this season, and Carver's show-running. I was so thrilled in the first third of the season, but it's slowly getting sucked out by mediocrity. I'm clinging to hope by a fingernail.

  8. Possibly the best episode of the season, even with Dean being an absolute dick for most of the episode. Sam was actually in character, it must be because he's not being forced into a bland love story or forced tension with Dean.

Henry was great. I wish he could have lived. He completely out-shined Sam and Dean in every way. I was surprised he was so loyal to them considering the way Dean treated him.

    ReplyDelete
  9. So... Dean will do anything to save Sam including sacrifice their grandfather, but Sam won't even look for Dean when he disappears. Still not believing OOC Sam. They need to fix this and they are running out of time.

    ReplyDelete
  10. ha, I thought the same thing. Carver fix Sam.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I agree, loved the "then and now" for this episode, brings me back the good ol' days.

    ReplyDelete
  12. But he did see his father again. They lived in the same town and John and his father were known to the residents. Continuity fail on JC's part.

  13. The place the key opens will be in next week's episode. Dean and Sam make it a home base and it will
    be for quite some time

Firstly woooooow . I think i was just being kind to other episodes this season because that jhdehedhdekh that right there ! had everything , brotherly moments ,action, sad sences ,etc...LOL i was actually laughing and those who are buffy fans were probably to , it reminds me of Glory (the amazon that is) and then she wants the "key" like in Buffy awsell .She ruled as a bady i wanted her to life to be honest. Herney is actually a good actor and brought tears to my eyes interesting to find out about Johns background. I liked also how Herney thought badly of hunters but that all changed and also how he wanted to undo the past ,cause lets be honest ,who wouldn't ?.I actually got scared when they were talking about what the key does (again kindy like buffy) ,but woow that would be cool to actually happen ..I feel the final being a big one .Hope the key comes back in it again .Loved Dean being all lookingout for sammy(hello dean how i have missed you). Sam was like Sam a bit to with his speech at the end about how he gets it ,but Dean is right to ,there is alot who have died in the family :(...This is classic and i dont even like time travel HATE time travel .If the second half of the season goes like this next am game!...I am not looking forward to next weeks though looks like a filler (but then again i a was surprised by this )... This is the old SUPERNATURAL 10 out of 10

  15. I loved this ep, the boys working together, Dean's snark, Henry was an interesting character and enjoyed finding out why John was alone.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I found that Men of Letters stuff tedious and confusing. I do not look forward to a ton of expositing episodes so Carver/Glass can build this boring new universe.

  17. Guessing John's mom just re-married

  18. Yuk. I love the road and the Impala. I love the run down cottage and motels. They'll have to really work hard to win me over to anything else.

  19. The man was supposedly a mechanic...not Henry.

    ReplyDelete
  20. True, plus it wasn't as if Dean could have saved his dad. Dean was dead; his dad saved him.

  21. I loved this episode. There was nothing not to like.

it's just basically people that keep passages safe etc...

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yeah, I'll go with the remarrying theory and John considered his stepfather his dad.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Who could dislike this episode? It was so emotional and full of awesome revelations. I loved Henry. I cried when he died. It was so sad.

    ReplyDelete
  25. My first awesome of the season!! Great story!! Why hasn't Adam Glass been writing like this all along? Seriously, he needs to stick to episodes like this one and "Mommy Dearest!" I would have liked for the show to break up it's pattern of Dean spending more time with the guest star of the week and have seen Sam saved Dean, but when an episode is this good, I can overlook that much easier. I would have liked some more story connecting the episode to season four's "In the Beginning" and season five "My Bloody Valentine." The show has a much different definition of answering questions than I do. I didn't feel like this episode set the brothers on a new direction, but I don't know, maybe that will play out in later episodes.

Henry Winchester was wonderful. I loved his interactions with the brothers. The demon was smart and well done. She wasn't over the top or underwhelming. For me, she joins the rank of Alastair, Azazel, and little Lilith as well done smart completely evil demons. It was nice to have a bad guy on par with some of the best villains we have had. Crowley can be a hit and miss and Roman and the mother of all we're nearly as interesting.

I really hope they keep with the brothers getting along, because the show just breaths so much better when Sam and Dean are on the same page fighting together. It's just amazing how much the show changes and improves without the forced conflict and drama. This is how the season should have always been going. This was the first episode of the season I didn't think for one second that it was slow. By the time I looked at the clock it was 9:50pm and I wasn't ready for it to be over.

Still, I wished that the show would respect the past seasons and I think it would be helpful for all the writers to rewatch the series. But I hope they keep up with this direction. I liked the Men of Letters. I hope they manage to connect all the pieces together by the end of the season. I was hoping to get into more about Sam and why he didn't look for Dean, because Jared said in an interview that we would see "Sam's Purgatory," but now, they are saying there are no more flashbacks. So, I don't know if we'll ever get an answer as to who was standing outside Amelia's house and why Sam did things that fans are still debating about whether it was in character or not.

  26. Just cause Dean was dead at that moment doesn't mean he can feel bad about not being able to save him, like if they had go with John when he went to Meg, if this, if that. So many ''What if'', so many move, things, details that could've happen differently that maybe could've change the accident. Not saying the boys were wrong or should've left Rosie and her parents to die, but its just the boys' nature to always wanting to save everyone, especially their family. Just like Dean in In The Beginning who was trying to save his parents at the risk of them never becoming hunter

  29. The only thing missing from this season for me is the real reason Sam did not look for Dean. If that is cleared up by the end, then this will go down as at least my second favorite season and maybe even #1.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Dang, isn't that fingernail broken yet?? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Where did I mention feelings. I stated facts. Dean was dead. His dad saved him.

Dean would feel guilty if it rained on a kid's birthday party so I'm not saying he shouldn't or didn't feel bad - just that it was his dad that saved him.

    ReplyDelete
  32. If the rest of the season stays as good as this episode and manages to connect the pieces together-including clearing up why Sam hates Benny and why Sam didn't look for Dean, it has a chance at being a really good season with a slow misstepped start. I'm not sure I'll ever think this season will be one of my favorites because of the forced drama between the brothers, but that doesn't mean it can't turn itself around and this is way to do it!

  33. I have to add how much I loved that the Americana theme was used for the family moments. Such a gorgeous theme.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Good episode. Very interesting. Sad Henry died. :(

Even more sad because of it the writers just ret-conned again? The "say hello to your father for me" quote that a guy in the diner said to young John when he came back from war in "In The Beginning" now doesn't make sense in less John had a step-father.

That was my only issue with it. :)

The key seems to be leading to fun things (TV Line Spoiler) so I'm looking forward to that.

    ReplyDelete
  35. It's not a ''fact'' that there was absolutely no way that Dean could've save his father if they had chosen differents path, made differents choice in the hours/days/weeks before John died. Maybe if they had decide to let Rosie and her parents die and go with John instead, maybe they would've save John. Maybe if they had done something else, change something, they could've have save him. They made a choice that save a family, but led to their father dead. If they've made another choice, there would've be no need for John to save Dean

  36. A mixed review from me. I expected to hate it based on what I had read, but it started out looking like it was going to be a good episode. Both Sam and Dean seemed in character. While Henry was a little stiff and not as memorable as I would have expected from a Winchester, he was ok.

Then it turned into Adventures in Babysitting Part II. Dean has the meatier emotional bonding role, and then Sam was much to quickly disabled and taken out of the fight, and pretty much made useless for the rest of the episode. Unlike Babysitting, Dean and his grandfather save the day rather than a 13-year-old girl (or however old she was).

A better end would have been if Henry had been left alive and could play a role from time to time. The show needs to widen Sam and Dean's universe.

I didn't have a problem with the mythology. The show needed a new twist, and this doesn't change John's past. I thought Dean was a little too defensive over John given his mixed feelings over the past few seasons, and I'm sure the John-haters out there hated this part of the episode. But I liked that for the first time in a long time, John wasn't trashed. This new knowledge might actually serve to give Sam and Dean a reason for being taken seriously in the super-powerful crowd that they run in.

  37. I LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT IT.I believe it's one of the best episodes ever and the best of the season so far.Henry was so cool.I absolutely adored him.I am so sad he died :'( That moment was heartbreaking.Haven't cried so much since Jo's death. At least he was in Sam's arms holding on to both of his grandsons' hands. The story was so interesting. And the things we learned for Sam and Dean??WOW.I also loved the 60s elements and Henry's curiosity confusion towards modernity. LOL at the line "I guess the Mayans were wrong" xD Laugh my lungs out :P And we got the long awaited talk from Dean about him loving, protecting his brother and putting HIM always first above everyone.Everything was awesome.I really hate that Henry can't be around anymore...I thought he was supposed to be recurring.

  38. I was happy to be relieved of John trashing for an episode. With this and Cas's comment on John having nice hand-writing this has been a good season for John's memory. I like it.

I'm one of the believers in what Dean said. John did the best he could (or at least what he thought was best). He was misguided and wrong, but that doesn't mean he was a horrible person.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yes, them not trashing John was a big plus for me. And that line of Dean's about John doing more good than harm really warmed me, because the last few times they gave Dean an opinion on John, they made it resentful.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think I can vote awesome for this one. I really loved what they did for John's character. Dean still had his dad's back -- angry at Henry because of how his father felt toward the man. But finding out why John's father left him was heartbreaking simply because Henry died to help save Sam. He traded his chance to be there for his son for the opportunity to help his grandsons. A very noble and very difficult choice. Now that they have this key, will they find the door it unlocks and do what Henry's old friend (who looked pretty damn good for being 127!) suggested, or will they be tempted to open that door and run the risk of someone else getting their hands on the information?

This episode opened a lot of new doors. Not only are there hunter (the brawn) there are also Men of the Letters (the brains). Interesting that the Winchesters should be the ones to bridge that gap. It's always been that way with the brothers, so maybe their family genetics play into it. Interesting theory.

I'm okay with the fact the Young John was told in "In the Beginning" to say hello to his old man, indicating John's father was still around. Henry is obviously not the mechanic John saw as his father at that time. We can speculate his mom remarried or something. I'm sure Carver is aware of the continuity issue so I'm going to just wait for an explanation. Henry just didn't seem like the mechanic type to me.

I'm glad to see them soften the memory of John a bit. They've been painting him pretty harshly for a while and let's face it, although he wasn't father of the year, like Dean says, he did the best he could. If his own father 'abandoned' him, it would explain his need to keep his own sons with him -- even if it would have been in their best interests to find someplace safe for them where they could grow up normal. I've always believed John did do the best he could under extraordinary circumstances. I love that he is still, after everything, Dean's hero and that Sam is finally seeing him in the light his brother saw all along. And Gpa Winchester was much more likable than Gpa Campbell. :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. this was not bad. the only time I cryed is with what dean said to henry about taking care of sam the only family he got left that was the old dean to me that was just sweet to me and the ep was good some what the hell? parts but all in all ok ep now whats up with the key there thats going to be good to find out.

    ReplyDelete
  42. It was obvious as early as as season 1 that Sam loved and respected his father. The difference between him and Dean was that Sam saw John as flawed and couldn't blindly trust that John was always right. I believe Dean's comment about John doing the best he could mirrored Sam's comment to young John in the season 5 time travel ep.

So I would say Dean has come around to Sam's way of thinking in this instance, rather than the opposite.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I can't stomach that. It totally clouds everything I have seen this season. I keep waiting for the "Real" reason and it never shows up...

    ReplyDelete
  44. Considering I tend to dislike Supernatural's time travel episode or alternate reality episodes, I enjoyed this one better than I expected to. I would definitely not classify it as Awesome, but it was good. Compared to how Season 8 (and 6 and 7 for that matter) has gone, it was one of the better episodes of the season. Offered some insight into John which was nice, but can we just get Jefferey Dean Morgan back please?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Just love how Dean said he'd do anything to save Sam. Save Sam for what. To basically live in misery with him and be unhappy hunting and watching everyone he loves die over and over. I still think Sam is just Dean's job. Dean wants to save Sam because he couldn't save John. How about saving Sam because he loves him and could not live without him, not saving him because he feels it's his duty to.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Obvious? No. I don't think Kids run away to Flagstaff because they love and respect their parents. Sam may have loved John when he was little, but the respect came around much, much later. Even Sam admitted that in the ep you mentioned. Dean saw John's flaws, he just couldn't see another choice if he wanted to keep his family together. I think we're watching two different shows. But you're entitled to see whatever you want.

    ReplyDelete
  47. One of the best episodes of the season so far, they not just make a good time travel episode, but they give a oportunity to expand even more the mitology of Supernatural. So far season 8 still great for me.

    ReplyDelete
  48. ''The brothers' characterizations seemed cliched at times, and the speech Dean gives in the car at the end, about not being able to save John and not wanting it to happen to Sam too - made it seem like Dean forgot selling his soul for Sam and Sam jumping in the cage in Swan Song.''

I think the point is that both time, Dean was able to save Sam. He brought him back by selling his soul the first time, and with Death he was able to take Sam's soul out of the Hell in S6. On the other hand, his dad is dead for good and he can't do much about it. He knows now that making deals never bring much good and he won't do one for his dad even if a demon wanted to make one. His dad is gone for good. Guessing Dean don't want to be unable to 'keep' Sam if something bad happen

    ReplyDelete
  49. My friend just talked to me about how she thinks Sam got some of his mojo from his grandpa since Ruby made the Jumbo reference that he didn't needed the feather to fly and he had it in him the whole time, and Henry did said the Men of Letters were elite (he could do some nice tricks :) )

I'll have to give thoughts about that one :) Maybe that's another part of the angel's shipping of the Winchester/Campbell. Some psychic/power in the WInchester's family maybe?

    ReplyDelete
  50. This episode is by far the best this season, but still some things that really bugs me.

    1. Dean is way too obsess to save his brother that he sacrifice his own grandpa! I know dean just met him, but you shouldn't trade any innocent man to save your brother! not to mention that's your grandpa! And Dean is all righteous again, blaming Henry run away from his family, but can you look at the fact dean, you are the reason why he can't go back, you got him killed! Dean constently feeling righteous at things he did wrong is getting annoying.

    2. The death of Henry feel forced. I know Henry can't go back in time, his demise would be a good ending to this episode, but can they do it better planned? after all those years of hunter training, that's what dean can come up to deal with a demon? send a man who doesn't look like he had much fighting training to do the job for you? shouldn't they have better planning? to this point things that can hurt a demon includes holy water, devil's trap, ruby's knife, angel blade that cas gave them , the colt, and demon bombs. why didn't he try all of those?

    3. time travel. dean keep stopping henry from going back through time, coz it might kill him. But did dean forget he had a friend who can pull off time travel safely, and send them back in time once just to get some stupid pheonix ashes? and this friend who might be powerful enough to deal with the demon bitch?

sorry for writing so much, I just really like this henry character and hate him gone like this. if the writer wants closure on this story, they can send him to another time where he get lost or stuck, doesn't have to kill him.
p.s. anyone want to rant about the fact that secondary characters saved the day once again?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yeah, the "Sam not looking for Dean/assuming Dean was dead" still reeks and is casting a major pall over my enjoyment of this season. I have not considered a single S8 episode yet worthy of buying the DVDs. I think Carver feels he adequately explained (had Sam explain) why Sam didn't look and I grow doubtful that we'll ever get any more explanation including what Sam did in the few months before hitting Riot ("my world imploded" ... "I lost Dean and just ran" ... after memorizing that handy reverse exorcism, of course, coz I [Sam] am a geek like that) >_>

    ReplyDelete
  52. Yeah, Carver really needs to fix that. Last week we had Dean taking the blame for Sam's break up and his speech in the car to Henry about doing anything to save Sam? I know that is a little thing and in character for old Dean when faced with family but where is this maturer set of boy Carver was promising us? That and still not resolving the whole Sam not looking and not being very nice about Benny kind of tainted things for me. I now that is me focusing on the negative but it kind of tainted a good episode for me.

    ReplyDelete
  53. The men with Letters things what with the robes and rituals and using 'elite' hunters and now supposedly the boys getting a big library.

Sounds a bit like a watchers and slayer set up to me. Was Carver thinking he was going to get sued by Mr Whedon so he stuck the Yoda to the hunters Jedi comment in?

    ReplyDelete
  54. It had plot holes again the writers think Dean is the only one with emotional depth. Sam's history seems to of been wiped from memory and Dean willing to do anything for Sam was underlined mayb too much in a season they couldnt be bothered to have Sam look for Dean. If this was gambling I would say this was a loaded game but at least the trashing of John seems to of stopped .

    ReplyDelete
  55. The recap before the episode totally had me psyched the entire hour and not gonna lie, it got me a little emotional

    ReplyDelete
  56. I was fully prepared to hate this episode. The whole Campbell "exploration" was disappointing. I really liked this episode. Liked Henry. I'm sorry that it appears we won't know more about the "Men of Letters" (Unless there's info in the new Winchesters Lair) I liked the mystery solving/quest aspect to the main story. And actually kind of liked this new bit of the mythology.

I don't know if it was the choreography or the directing but that scene when the uber demon arrived kicked me right out of the episode. Sam and Dean have been doing this all their lives and they hesitate that long when a demon appears? Yeah, it might take a couple moments for them to figure out what exactly they were dealing with but it didn't stop them from reaction quickly when Henry showed up. Someone yells run and they gawk. A woman steps out of a portal and these guys, with their experience gawk? PULEEEZE

I've grown a little bored with judgemental Dean. As much as Sam and Dean both declare that they have no choice but to be hunters...something about Dean's exit line felt a little disingenuous. I like where that relationship ended up tho.

    ReplyDelete
  57. John was strong willed and trying to force Sam into a life he didn't want. I think you can respect someone and still choose not to obey their orders. I saw respect and love when John and Sam finally met up near the end of the season. As for Flagstaff, we know nothing about the circumstances other than Sam once tried to run away from home as a child.

The issue with Sam and Dean and John was always the question whether they should follow orders with questioning anything. Dean was ok with that, Sam wasn't.

  58. I'm gonna give it a great, even though this eppy was delayed and cut into pieces in the Maryland/DC/Baltimore area. First it didn't come on until 11 PM est because of a basketball game. Then midway through the eppy, they came back from commercial and showed the same 15 min of show that had just been on BEFORE the commercial. Then after that deja vu, another commercial and then the show came back to show the last 5 min of Sam and Dean at Henry's grave. So whatever happened between the time that demon chick eyeballed goth girl at the comic store and the end tag....no idea. A complete mess by the Baltimore area CW airing of SPN. I'll just have to catch the whole thing when it pops up on the CW network.

What I saw was great though. Just wish I would have stayed up until midnight for a totally messed up viewing in this area. Hopefully the issues in the MD area doesn't affect much of the ratings for this ep.

  59. A solid episode for me...........it was so good for Sam to know about this aspect of the family tree. After all Sam was to be a man of letters (college-braininess) now we know where he gets that.Dean is tough like the Campbell s and Sam is wise like the Winchesters. They both cross over many times but we now we know the reason why...Henry was GREAT............I could see Sam in his eyes. Sam was very excited and totally present in this episode. I love how he tried to smooth things over for Henry with Dean. An excellent episode and so reminiscent of old episodes. I loved the opening scenes of "Then". Seeing the young Winchesters and dad was thrilling for me. I was just sooo happy watching this show tonight. Dean and Sam were tight and brotherly there was no angst! I feel they have finally moved forward..thank goodness. For me it makes so much sense that these boys have always been so special. I mean they have been through soooo much why them??? Now we know it is their Legacy. Both sides of the family were fighting evil. One side with brains the other with brawn! Together we come up with Dean and Sam the best of both! I love this show.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Sam and Dean are essentially the perfect breed of both which was probably one of the reasons Mary and John were brought togther in the first place, to have children that had the combined legacy.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Sam said the same thing in season 5 btw

  62. If the season ends without a good reason Sam is like he is, then the season will be a bust for me, but in the mean time I am taking each ep and have enjoyed most of them a lot.

  64. I am more like Sam in I want to know WHY, why do you want me to do this, Dean always just said "yes sir". I felt for Sam in those eps.

    ReplyDelete
  65. OK yeah, JDM back would be awesome, which BTW is what I gave this ep.

    I totally agree!

I wasn't expecting to see Protector!Big!Brother!Dean in this episode and OMG, how I love him for that! ♥

  67. I agree with you about the Dean part. His attitude was the only thing that bugged me in this episode.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Agree which is a real shame as I enjoyed most of this and the last episode then they stick a little thing from Dean that implies that Sam is being back to being the anointed one who has to be protected at all costs instead of him being a 30 year old capable of his own decisions and it takes the shine off things. It doesn't help that they don't seem to be giving Sam the screen time to explain or reciprocate or even correct peoples opinions on the attitude that he has been showing as has he even said sorry about hurting Dean's feelings with him not looking?

  69. i just finished watching this episode and I really enjoyed it.

I didn't think I would, but I have to say the forty minutes passed in a flash.

There were plot-holes and the usual things that are now unfortunately intrinsic to the show, but I gave it awesome just for the pleasure of seeing an episode that reminded me of how SPN used to be; without brother contrived hating, slapstick comedy or guest stars taking up most of the screen time!

The only thing that realy bugged me was Dean going to call Garth for help. He is not Bobby and never will be!

Another tiny thing is Dean's voice. It feels too forced to my ears now, it makes him sound less intelligent and I don't want him to give that impression for Dean is clever!

I wish he would tone it down a bit and talk more normally.

I don't understand however after all the crappy briother-hating episodes the writers have forced-fed us up until now, why they would give us a more brotherly one.

Is everything that has gone before, ie,"Benny is a better brother than you' and 'Samelia' all been for nothing?

I would love to cancel those episodes from the season, cos honestly when the brothers are good with each other, everything is just so much better. :)

  70. Supernatural, meet Minority Report. (Bit of a stretch)

    That was pretty darned awesome.

Why did Abadon (Sp?) walk around looking like she was waiting for her nails to dry?

Love the history of Lucifer creating Archdemons.

And the idea of carving a Devil's Trap in the bullet? Beautiful.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Yes.The devil's trap in the bullet was a touch of art. :)

    ReplyDelete
  72. Now this is what I'm talking about! I'm glad they didn't mess with the mythology too much, they just added a few things here and there. I've missed episodes like this. A devil's trap in a bullet! Genius!

Also, I would like to remind the 7 rabid destiel shippers that voted for "awful", that Dead did have an angel feather in the trunk of the Impala.

  73. This is honestly one of the best Supernatural episodes in years, certainly makes it to my Top 5 list. :) The last time I was this excited about a Supernatural episode was ep 4x01 when Cas and the angel mythology were introduced.

I loved the new Men of Letters mythology and I wish we could have found out more about them (and I'll be very disappointed if they leave it at that). Henry was a cutie and they really shouldn't have disposed of him so quickly.

It just made no sense that Dean made no attempt to ask for help or at least come up with a better plan. I mean, seriously, he couldn't have tried to summon Cas?!? He couldn't have asked Garth to send a hunter for backup so Henry could make it out alive?? He just let the guy die like a lamb to the slaughter? Henry obviously could have taught Sam and Dean a lot, he was worth a greater effort. Not to mention the whole "Your priority is your family" speech was too tired and hypocritical, Dean should tone down the drama queen act.

  74. Even if the angel feather shouldn't have actually been a tangible object and definitely not white.

  75. Did anybody notice that when Henry "appeared" it was with the same posture as the Leviathans??

    ReplyDelete
  76. Now they can recruit Oliver Queen with a quiver full of arrows with Devil's Traps on all of them.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Makes me wonder what the series would be like if the writing was consistent on this level and not looking like a seismograph.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I re-watched that episode. He used the term "old man" which can be used for father, husband and has several non-familial applications. It's a problem you run into when writers aren't around for the entire run or know the story that well.

You've got a good ear to catch something like that. That was awesome on your part.

Maybe given the era the phrase has a wider meaning. Here and now, my friend who is in a motorcycle club refers to his wife as "old lady" and she "old man"!

I also wonder if writers don't toss some things like this out there to see the fan reaction and grab some ideas while they're reading.

Anyway, that was impressive. Very impressive. Would hate to play Supernatural Jeopardy against you! :)

And the step-father makes more sense like you said. Unless John's birth father "disappeared".

    ReplyDelete
  79. Thought for a split second that Henry was a Leviathan with the pose he was in after coming through the wormhole.

Given the era I think old man covers a wider range of people. Maybe Mary got married in Vegas and caught Cupid with his diapers down?

Wonder what a god-ordered annulment would look like?

Abadon reminded me of the funny walking alien in Mars Attacks. Might just be the new meds.

There was so much good in this one I'm going to have to watch it several times.

Just kind of disappointed another Winchester bites the dust. Maybe Crowley has a half-brother stashed somewhere working for the dark side. Or maybe he's had Adam all this time, priming him for revenge.

Actually, it always makes me remember "Terminator", lol.

  81. Beh. Dean's a pretty goods shot with a crossbow too. The arrows would be a good idea :)
I think we only saw him use it once. Be nice to see it again.

  82. What I want to know is since when does a bullet, especially one fired from right under the chin, not exit through the top of the skull? Wouldn't it have worked better from farther away? Or is it a .22? Maybe if they reduced the amount of gunpowder? I am just used to entrance and exit wounds for bullets if they are fired close up.

    ReplyDelete
  83. my question is, why did the bullet stop in the brain? The gun was presse dup under her chin, the only thing that'd have stopped it is a little bone, and.. that's not likely to happen from so close? Should have blown the top of her skull off. That said, I did very much like the idea of a bullet creating a devil's trap, and of that beech rotting forever.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Probably just a small caliber gun. Or maybe it worked like a stamp and stamped the Devil's Trap on the last bony surface it encountered.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Ha! Those are some amazing meds, dude. :) I actually thought the same thing about Abadon and Mars Attacks. Glad it wasn't just me.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I love the family episodes where we find out more about the Winchesters side of the family. I think we have had enough of the Campbells (no offense to Mary). Poor John and Henry is right. But, at least the boys know more about John and how his father loved him, even though he left him so early in life. He was a good man after all. Those flashbacks at the beginning got me rather emotional, too. How the boys have grown up over 8 years! I loved every minute of it and thought it was another awesome episode! Next week should be great, too!
