POLL: Favorite Scene from Supernatural - Torn and Frayed
18 Jan 2013
Polls SupernaturalWe're starting a new feature here at SpoilerTV, asking you to pick your favorite scene from that week's episode. There will always be an other choice if you liked something different. The number of choices will differ depending on the episode and how many people give suggestions on Twitter. For instance, the inclusion of the scene where Dean talks about Mrs. Tran was suggested on Twitter. Polls should be up on Thursday or Friday night and there is no end time to vote. You can still only vote once though. Please feel free to comment about your favorite scenes below and offer feedback on this new weekly feature.
In other news, we have crowned a winner in our Best Song-to-Scene Poll. And the winner is......Renegade. It was super close with Renegade getting 136 votes to O Death's 130. Renegade won with only 51% of the vote. Personally I am glad they were close because both of them are such great songs-to-scene. Thanks to everyone who participated in that contest.

By far my favorite moment was the reveal of the angel tablet. I figured that was Naomi's reason for being around but it was great to have it canon. Best of luck to Crowley on that one. My second favorite is a tie between the brothers working together on a case and Cas telling them to stow their issues and focus on the job.
ReplyDeleteBusty Asian Beauties!
ReplyDeleteI thought the Busty Asian Beauties was hysterical, but Sam and Dean talking at the cabin, because it cleared the air opened a chance for healing.
ReplyDeleteBusty Asian Beauties. Cas watching Dean sleep.... again! Cas and Dean interrogating the guy in the hospital. The shout out to Monty Python. Garth's houseboat being named for his puppet. But really - can't believe that Busty Asian Beauties wasn't even a choice....
ReplyDeleteI just realized Mrs Tran is why Dean is visiting Busty Asian Beauties again. hee
ReplyDeleteDean and Sam talk in the cabin about Cas and Amelia
ReplyDeleteX
It's one of the few scenes where they actually have a conversation like brothers who respect each other and at least we get Sam and Dean on their own, together, without any guest stars hogging the attention and there is even a watery attempt at a smile on Sam's part, also I like Dean's line about being tired of the fighting between them, 'cos boy I share his feelings perfectly.
X
However the whole episode still remains depressing in its entirety.
Busty Asian Beauties of course!
ReplyDeleteDean and Sam talk in the cabin about Cas and Amelia - this one stood out for me, because you could just feel the change in atmosphere of the conversation, compared to almost all the previous ones they had - there was no anger, brothers were once again on the same page, respectful and mature. Another point i liked in this scene that they realized that Cas is not himself and must be manipulated in some sort of way - i would say that finally they are not being portrayed as dumb, and can come to conclusions on their own, without anybody else pointing to the problem :)
ReplyDeleteI also liked the final scene of them eating and drinking together, but the beginning of this mood was in the scene i picked. At least i felt it that way :)
best comment ever :D
ReplyDeleteCas watching Dean sleep (again!). And Dean trying to hide his porn from Cas :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite scene was the ending credits.
ReplyDeleteI was pretty glad to see them too.
ReplyDeletefabulous!
ReplyDeleteI picked Amelia seeing empty motel room, because I hope it is the last I ever see of her.. That line she used talking to Sam was so stupid..One of us will be there and we will know, neither will be there and we will know...if neither is there then how the heck would you know??? Writer did not think that one thru. lol
ReplyDeleteI would have counted everything from when Cas frees Samandriel to when he disappears with the body as one scene. The way Samandriel looks at Cas when he saves him; Cas's confusion and dismay in his scene with Naiomi; the detached, distant way he says "Thank you both, for everything you've done"; the tear of blood... I found the whole sequence very impactful and disturbing and the highlight of the episode.
ReplyDeleteMy other favourite parts were when Dean woke up to find Cas staring at him. And when Dean suggests going to happy hour with Cas (I was really hoping for a tiny scene where we got to see Cas hanging out with the Winchesters at a bar or something before everything went to hell. At least there was a suggestion of something like that, even if it didn't actually happen.)
" Dean and Sam eat on the couch while watching boxing" because that's what this show is about, two brothers trying to save the world, living in motel rooms and travelling in a '67 Impala.
ReplyDeleteIt almost was a tie between Cass telling them to stow their crap and the boys watching tv :) I have to say, when Cass shouted at them it kind of reminded me of what Bobby used to do, to shout and knock their head together hard when the boys were just being too stuborn to listen. I miss Bobby :(
ReplyDeleteI went for the cabin scene as well with Sam and Dean. But if I was to vote for the best w/out both brothers in it...I'd go with Dean saying goodbye to Benny. I think Ty's portrayal of Benny has been absolutely spectacular, so it was a tough scene to have to say goodbye to him...even though I'm sure his story isn't finished yet.
ReplyDeleteLast scene was one of the most depressing scenes in the show (kinda in a good way since the brothers solved their issues). I believe it was intended so that we can see how sad it was for the brothers to leave behind their friends. Kudos to both Jared and Jensen for creating that feeling in the episode :))
ReplyDeleteYou liked that dramatic!zoom, then? :)
ReplyDeleteWas it just me or was there no way Sam was fitting into that flannel shirt she came out of the bathroom in?
ReplyDeleteI mocked that line when I live tweeted the episode. Besides the logic gap, it was the dramatic pauses that made me eye roll.
ReplyDeleteI missed Bobby so much in that scene. I can't help but think that this whole rift would have been over months ago if Bobby had been there.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Olsson has been amazing this season. It's a shame they left it like that because when he does appear again, and like you I think he will, it's almost inevitable that it will be for the Winchesters to kill him. I really don't want that.
ReplyDeleteIf it had been Sam's shirt she would have been wearing it like a long nightgown. lol
ReplyDeleteI really like when Dean and Cas are teamed up again and investigating what happened
ReplyDeleteExactly what I was thinking during the whole fall last year :( Everytime it was getting worse I was thinking about episodes like Lucifer Rising where Bobby knocked sense into the boys in one episode or so. The boys and their blind spot for each other need so much a person who's not afraid to scream at them from time to time
ReplyDeleteWhy didn't you all include the first Dean/Cas scene where Cas comes to Dean for help, watches him in his sleep (Dean waking up and spilling his beer was hilarious!), and then later Dean accidentally shows Cas his asian porn???? That scene would have so many votes. It was hilarious! :)
ReplyDeletemostly the first 30 minutes....I loved the scenes with Cas and Dean...
ReplyDeleteYup, I agree! It was really awesome and a bit startling when they put up the sigils and talked about Cas. I was like, "This is smart, guys." You're finally being the great hunters that we know you are!
ReplyDeleteI agree. That entire scene at the end with Cas and Samandriel once he's been rescued was so powerful. It was one of the best scenes of the series, actually. Too bad here they split up that sequence into 3 options.
ReplyDeleteCastiel watching Dean sleep was my favorite scene. It was really sweet :)
ReplyDelete*snort* Indeed!
ReplyDeleteDean asking Cas if he'd like to go have a drink and a burger was also nice
ReplyDeleteIt was nice a throw back to a classic dean/cas moment. i loved it!
ReplyDelete<3333333333333333333
ReplyDeleteCas watching over Dean.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite scene was none of the ones listed above. I had four favorite scenes, actually, but not one of them are listed above. They are, in this order: #1 When Cas cured a baby girl. That was adorable. #2 When Dean and Cas are in the car and Dean tells Cas to go to a beer and bacon happy hour. #3 When Castiel and Dean are in the hospital, and Castiel checks Dean's face to see if he was being serious. And #4 the parallel scene to episode 5x03, 'Free to be you and me'. Scene where Castiel surprises Dean. :)
ReplyDeleteI also liked when Sam and Amelia were together, because you can see Sam did love her, and she was important to him, which is why I strongly disliked the ending of this episode. Because the way in which Sam and Amelia resolved their relationship was childish; they should have talked like adults, and Sam should have told her about his life situation. She probably would've understand. She deserved to at least know the truth, so she could make a decision knowing the true facts. I can't stay angry at this decision for long though, because I'm certain this is not the end of Amelia and Sam's story. As well as for Dean and Benny's story.
This episode was very sad! But, there were good things too. (The best were the Cas/Dean parts, because you can't deny those two are adorable together).
The author left out some major moments between Dean and Castiel. How can Dean talking to Kevin about his mom be on the list and not Castiel watching Dean sleep on the coach?? Dean opening up his laptop to busty Asian beauties and telling Cas that he "saw nothing" was also oddly excluded. I know these polls can be edited even after they are published. Can the OP add these two scenes or include them as one? :)
ReplyDeleteThe hospital scene was amazing! This poll isn't very Dean/Cas friendly. Many of their moments were excluded. :(
ReplyDeleteThis scene, when Cas increases the noise of birds chirping to wake Dean up :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite moment was when Cas was watching Dean sleep
ReplyDeleteDean and Cas in the cabin. Dean and Cas in the car. Neither of them is on the list. But they are clearly the best :)
ReplyDeleteWhere are all the Cas moments? If it were there, I'd vote for Dean hiding the porn from Cas and their "investigation" -- it was the only thing in the episode that wasn't depressing and made me want to slit my wrists. I see many people voting for Sam & Dean on the couch. While it looked like a brother moment on the surface, it was the most depressing thing in the episode, in my opinion. They looked miserable, such a stark contrast to the ending scene from "A Very Supernatural Christmas". Maybe that was the whole point? This was not the way I wanted them to "fix" things.
ReplyDeleteWell I thought one of the best was Cas popping up when Dean was sleeping, but then not waking him, because Dean looks his most at peace when he sleeps, and Cas wouldn't want to disturb that.. And also I really thought the whole scene with Cas having flashbacks to what Naomi did to him in heaven was really well acted and frightening and good, and it really makes me want to know what's going on and what Naomi is doing to all the angels and to Cas....But unfortunately we will have to wait quite a while to find out since Cas won't be back for 5 more episodes...
ReplyDeleteBiased options are biased.
ReplyDeleteDean and Cas teaming up to investigate, especially the hospital scene.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite scene was when Castiel and Dean were interviewing the hospital patient. Followed closely by the scene where Cas scared the crap out of Dean when he was watching him sleep.
ReplyDeleteCas watching Dean sleep and Dean hiding his porn, omg I laughed so hard there were tears streaming down my face. But then Samandriel was killed off and I cried tears of pain :"(
ReplyDeleteAnd when the boys find Castiel curled around Samandriel's body, looking almost protective (because he /wanted/ to save him so badly, but...) That was another punch-you-in-the-gut image
ReplyDeleteDean and Cas investigating together, they're perfect and hilarious.
ReplyDelete"That's his serious face, yes"
ReplyDeleteoh yeah, I forgot about this one. one of my favourite moments. I really liked the scene when Dean saved his brother too.
ReplyDeleteCas and Dean in their first date.... wait a minute, no, it wouldn't be the first one ;)
ReplyDeleteoh god that dramatic zoom was awful. I mean it's funny but idk man, how did it make the cut?
ReplyDeleteIt sounds strange, but I really loved the moment after Castiel had killed Samandriel. They had a quick pan where Cas was curled up against him, with both of their foreheads touching. I just thought it was a really beautiful shot, the way their bodies were arranged together, very visually striking. It stuck with me after the episode. I actually would really like to see some fanart of it, even though the subject is sad.
ReplyDeleteOh this was the best of all.
ReplyDeleteI had a bunch of favorite scenes, most of which aren't on the poll, but probably my #1 would be Dean and Cas talking to the witness. No, it wasn't one of the dramatic scenes, but it was very cute. #2 scene would probably be Cas surprising Sam on the bench. Sam's face was hilarious.
ReplyDeleteI agree. To me Sam and Dean looked so sad at the end of the episode. It was one of the saddest scenes in the whole episode. I think this was the point of the scene, too. Because they didn't choose what they wanted, instead, they let go of relationships they would have wanted to keep. It was a very sad scene indeed.
ReplyDeleteThey did a great job. I felt very melancholy at the end of the episode. They're worried about Cas and now they've cut off two people they care about because they feel like Amelia and Benny won't fit into their lives. I hope that the next time Sam tries to be with someone (hopefully Amelia; I do like her, but I would probably also like someone else), that he's willing to actually tell her the truth about himself and give her a chance.
ReplyDeleteI liked when Dean Sam and Castiel were working together. But I HATED when Samandriel died. I hope Castiel returns soon. Anyone knows something about it?
ReplyDeleteYeah, it reminds me their interaction on season five. They have chemistry.
ReplyDeleteSadly we don't. I don't know how I will handle it... 6 episodes in a row without him... I don't like that.
ReplyDeleteOther: Dean and Cas visit burn victim in the hospital. The whole scene was just comedic gold.
ReplyDeleteAre you serious? Again?? But why they keep writing Castiel off the show?? This is getting ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteYes, they shoud have included at least a couple of their scenes! :/
ReplyDeleteI tend to think it's unfair. For Cas, for Misha, for the plot and for us
ReplyDelete"It's a metaphor." "That is his serious face."
ReplyDeleteAlso Cas watching Dean sleep, haha.
Best scene was Cas waking Dean up with birdsong.
ReplyDeleteI agree with all of this. The poll should have at least listed the baby curing scene.
ReplyDeleteIt was weird, because the scene where Dean and Sam were sneaking around destroying the sigils was so well done and suspenseful (in my opinion), and then out of nowhere there was this cheesy zoom
ReplyDeleteWho cares?
ReplyDeleteI voted 'other' for the scene of Cas watching Dean sleep. Biased much? There were no positive Dean/Cas scenes on your list.
ReplyDeleteI liked all the Dean/Cas investigating scenes and the one with Kevin Tran where Dean looks so proud that Cas can get them the demon bomb ingredients.
ReplyDeleteBiased commenter is biased.
ReplyDeleteI had to go with other, because for me the best scenes were Dean and Cas at the hospital, Cas waking Dean up by increasing the volume of the sounds outside, Dean basically asking Cas on a date and Cas being oblivious. I was good to see Dean being himself again and seeing Dean and Cas together makes my heart sing...
ReplyDeleteAs this poll has none, I second all the Dean and Cas scenes. All of them. The car, the hospital, the cabin. Also Cas healing a baby, it was really sweet.
ReplyDeleteJudging by the comments, I'd say quite a few posters care
ReplyDeleteYup, I have a few favourite scenes with Cas from that ep. None of them is on that list.
ReplyDeleteGosh, all this time and I did not know I was asking a friend on a date when I say let's get a burger.
ReplyDeleteYou know... when you post a poll like this one, about the best scene of an episode, you should open your mind enough to include every important aspect of it. Taking into account Dean and Cas have scenes together half the episode and none of them is listed here, yeah, the poll is biased. It's ok, it's just the poster's business, but I'm in my right to express how much I don't like it.
ReplyDeleteAny time Dean and Castiel were together.
ReplyDeleteAll my favorite scenes are between Dean and Cas and they're not in the poll, so I voted in Dean and Cas visiting Kevin on Garth's houseboat, because of Dean's proud face when Cas tells Kevin he will get what they need. I have to wonder about the lack of Dean/Cas scenes in the poll, since the episode was full of them and, considering the comments, they're the favourites of a lot of people.
ReplyDeleteCas watching Dean sleep! And their whole investigation together (including Dean asking Cas out for a burger :D)
ReplyDeleteSome fans need to start accepting that Castiel and Cas and Dean's relationship are two of the most popular things about supernatural in the fandom (just look at the comments)
ReplyDeleteDEAL WITH IT
My favourite moments were pretty much ALL the Dean and Cas moments. They were great together, with their easy chemistry, in the hospital and in the impala scoping out Crowley's lair. Not to mention Cas watching Dean sleep. If it weren't for those moments I doubt I would have liked the episode as much.
ReplyDeleteI think Sam wants to protect her though. We've seen how much Jessica's death changed him :(
ReplyDeleteExactly. He's making it all about him and not giving her a chance. Makes me sad.
ReplyDeleteOkay, honestly? I kinda agree with you, but I think that even though the episode had a pretty good plotline going, it was badly written. There could have done so much better. I am really not fond of Klein's writing, and I think that someone more experienced should have written the episode. Overall it wa pretty interesting ep to watch, but not good enough for a post-hiatus comeback, no, not at all.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately it's well known that the author of the article dislikes dean & cas together, and I am not talking romantically. It's pretty obvious at this point. Just forget about it, overall this site it's a pretty nice place to read articles and discuss your favorite TV shows.
ReplyDeleteyeah that was pretty disgusting how they turned that joke into Dean having an asian fetish
ReplyDeletethere's no logic gap,the implication is that with 'one of us there' she (as the speaker) will be there, 'neither one of us will be there' = she won't be there
ReplyDeletethat makes less sense than the original, "she won't be there" means that Sam would not be there either??
ReplyDeleteI would really enjoy watching Amelia fighting the supernatural too. It would be lovely, sweet and terribly badass of her part.
ReplyDeleteThat is one of the few, Sam and Castiel scenes "Ever" without Dean. Notice it was only a few seconds long... Except for the soul-less Sam scene where Sam threatens Castiel, there are very few scenes with those two alone together actually communicating. I was all excited when I heard they would have a scene together in Hunter Heroici, but Castiel and Sam don't say anything at all to each other that whole time.
ReplyDeleteI read some where that putting Misha and Jared together in the same scene was VERY time consuming as they kept each other laughing..have ofter wondered if that is why we don't see them together more.
ReplyDeleteI know what she was trying to say, but why not just we will meet here at 7:30 if you want this to continue. Short and sweet. lol
ReplyDeleteIt's only illogical if you choose to interpret the line literally. But since the line is in fact, portrayed as being a part of someone's spoken dialogue, it is therefore meant to imitate natural speech; it is not subject to the same rules of understanding that we would use for the written word. Quite often in direct speech (i.e. Someone talking) words are missed out, direct meanings are left unsaid and certain gaps in logic are left up to the viewer/listener to interpret.
ReplyDeleteHaving been a human being forced to interact in certain social situations, you know all this. So while your interpretation of Amelia’s statement makes sense to you, it doesn’t quite click for me. I believe your issue is when she said that both of them not turning up would mean that they both ‘knew?’ I can understand the confusion. But in the situation that Amelia puts forth it doesn’t matter if either one or both of them turns up or not at all. If Sam doesn’t turn up then he can rest easy knowing that the following is true: either (a) Amelia will turn up and seeing that he’s not there will reach the conclusion that he doesn’t want the relationship to continue or (b) Amelia won’t turn up but can rest easy in the knowledge that if Sam turns up he will read her lack of presence as a ‘no’ and if he hasn’t turned up...well then, he will thinking the exact same thing as her. In the case that neither of them turn up, they will never know whether there was a chance for them to be together. But they don’t have to be aware of the truth in order to know that their absence signals a clear ‘no.’ They’re already realised that it just takes one of them to be absent for the deal to fall through. They’ll know that ‘they’ said no and be forever left unsure of what the other person decided. But Amelia’s idea leaves clear the fact that if the relationship is to continue then they BOTH need to turn up.
I apologise for my lack of proper grammar. I am unsure if I’ve worded things in quite the
right way to get the idea across. But Amelia’s idea made logical sense to me, even if people didn’t decide to work through the gaps in logic themselves. And quite frankly, that’s just what the sentence is intended to do. I don’t think the writers like to spell things out.
Of course, I could be wrong. I may have misinterpreted what you said. It seems communication through the internet can be just as faulty as the spoken word, notably because we don’t have professional editors to run things by.
