WELCOME TO OUR FINAL FRINGE FRIDAY EVENT

LIBERTY
Well, this is it folks. Tonight is our last gathering as a fanbase with a new episode to watch...
It's all over tonight. Take this time to realize what we've been given as fans over the last 5 seasons...

There have been many questions asked and answered, but it looks as though everything that has led up to tonight's two hour finale was but a setup... Let's see if we can witness the story of the Fringe Division end with the carefully crafted and beguiling artistry that has defined it over the past 5 years.

I'll be the first to say that everything they tried in this show was practically made to either confound or antagonize fans of these brilliant characters -- everything from completely leaving them out of the spot light for entire half-seasons, to creating alternate realities, and even reseting time so that none of our experiences with these characters seemingly ever took place... but underneath it all, the myriad of realities still kept a hold over every single thing that has ever and will ever happen... A supermassive inter-weaving of time and space laden with so many moments both monumental and isolated in scope, it's simply bewildering that we were able to see it unwind over the course of an episode of television each week.

We've been through some trying times in the narrative of Fringe, including currently in the wake of multiple incredible shows of self-sacrifice for the prolonging of hope in spite of so much fear and destruction... What will we see happen in the end? We all know it will take at least 1 more act of sacrifice--namely by Walter Bishop himself--to end this nightmare that the world of 2036 finds itself in... I've a feeling his actions will reverberate even further than any previous act he's ever committed, in this universe or beyond.

THE ENEMY OF FATE

In Fringe there are only endless impossibilities. Fate has no role in dictating the actions of humanity. We are not victims of our actions, but the ones acting, and ultimately we are responsible for our actions. You must do what you can to achieve what you will, and you must pursue your cause with passion and sound judgment, because you'll not get a chance to reset time to try everything over again.

Today's the special day where Fringe officially airs it's 99th and 100th episodes. Like most things Fringe-related, it is a clean episode count, ending probably 60 episodes past what most people thought would ever air in the first place. Fringe states not only in its narrative, but also in its very existence that the nature of things can always be defied. Fringe fought the nielsen ratings system for 4-5 years and still managed to end on its own terms with dwindling ratings.

I could probably rant on about every little thing that I love about this show, from its embracing of a Post-9/11 United States, to its inclusion in the Abrams over-arching saga (loving tie-ins with each of his projects reaching all the way back to Alias), but I'm going to have to cut off here, for fear of going on too long.

The stars really "aligned" for this show to have so much going for it that it overwhelmed and took down what was put against it... In true Abrams form, it defied television tropes and did what it wanted to, as long as it held true to the ultimate goal: which was to tell an unbelievable story rooted in the depiction of incredible characters often placed in situations both heartwarming and tragic... backed by a full house of producers, writers, musicians, and actors all indelible in their respective places.

Today's Topic: There is no topic... Comment on whatever you like...the floor is yours Fringe fanatics.

As for me, this will likely be the very last Fringe Friday article I'll get to write. I hope that I was able to help add to your collective Fringe Fridays over the last year or so, because it was a fantastic opportunity for me to expose myself to others' opinions and theories that were always equally well-though-out and entertaining... You're probably the most charming and well-balanced fanbase that I've ever been a part of, and it's been great "serving" with you all through all the twists and turns.

Wilson, Signing off...

  1. It's been fun, guys! Let's hope they do the show justice in the end!
I had more planned for this post, but it didn't pan out and I have to work today, so I'll not be able to sit here and edit my little project anymore. Oh well. :(

  8. Great post Wilson.

The finale is turning out pretty emotional for me. I wasn't expecting that. I was really excited for the ending of Lost and Smallville but I don't think I got teary eyed for it.

So, my favorite thing about Fringe is its focus on family.
Polivia is great and I love Astrid and the science. But it really is the Walter and Peter scenes (any Bishop family scenes really) that make me come back every week. I´ll be missing all of them on my tv.

And I can't wait to find out what happens!!!

  9. So many great things to say about the show, but one of the nicest things was being able to share our
thoughts with each other, whether it be a theory, an emotional response, Wilson's awesome song collection and Fringe Friday questions and musings,,and Mutsy's art work, are all things that made the show additionally special to me!

I hope that when it's said and done at 10:00PM tonight, that we can look back and have Deja Vu moments all over again. Here's to passing the tulip onward! See you in another Life, Fringies <3

  11. It was a nice send off, Wilson! - I agree that in this case, we see how fate and it's endless cycles, roads, ect might be able to lead to somewhere good, especially because the characters hopefully choose to be responsible for their past actions. I think that it is true that sometimes we can be our worst enemies of fate, because we far to often take for granted what we do already have and don't think about what we might be taking away...It's really been a nice experience and I hope in the future there will another show you write a bit about! (and of course I'm going to shamelessly wish it to be a Abrams show). But thank you for taking the time to write these lovely pieces each week and bringing us Fringe lovers together!

  21. Thank you for a lovely last message. As it gets closer to the last episodes, I'm really dreading it now. I'm going to be a blubbering mess in a few hours! I hate that it's the end - I don't know what I'll do next Friday. I'm so glad I discovered Fringe - slightly ironically I watched my first episode on a flight home from holiday - it was the season 2 opener and the minute Olivia was thrown through the car I was hooked! It's been a brilliant 5 seasons and I'll miss this show. Thanks to Fringe community - it's been fun and nail-biting at the same time! Happy Fringe Friday everyone!!

  24. I wish you all the best Fringies. I have had a very hard life full of bad things happening in it. Even though I kept giving the best of me to everybody in my life , things kept happening. I could have taken the wrong way and become evil and sour and make other new people in my life pay for the things that these other people did to me, but I decided to be better than that and not do it. However, I would hold on to missing these bad people, what they represented in my life, etc. In my loneliness, when I was completely lost , when I would cry every day remembering all these bad things, I happened to run into a show that changed my life. I started watching LOST around season 4, and the journey that doing so brought me into was soul healing. Even toughi I am a person that believes in God , I cannot say I consider myself a christian , catholic, etc. I believe there is Good and Evil , but I do not think people are born with a tendency to either. I believe that most of the things that happen in our lives and in the lifes of the ones that surround us derive from decisions we , or others, make. The final season of LOST, especially the final episode , helped me learn something that I quite never understood is really important in life - To Let Go of People and Things. Learning this gave me a new chance to enjoy my life, because I learned to appreciate new things, I started giving new people in my life a brand new chance to let me know who they were and how benefitial they could be in my life, without having all the baggage from prior relationships. This let me embrace happiness once again.

I like Fringe a lot, but not like many of you guys do. I am not saying that you should let go off Fringe. Not at all. What I am trying to say is that I hope you can learn as much as you can from this journey on which this show has brought you over the years. Knowing the style of the people that work with JJ Abrahams I am pretty confident that they will deliver a mind blowing finale from which all of us can learn a lot and maybe help us in our lives. I am pretty sure that some people will say this is just a TV show , but after lurking in this site for several years and reading your comments and seeing how invested you are in this show I know that , in addition to what has happened in this five years, whatever happens tonight may certainly change some of your lives.

Cry your eyes out , be receptive, learn and say good bye to your beloved characters, but do not be sad. Embrace the ending of this journey and try to keep the good things this show has taught you with you.

People say that I am good person , even though they know lots of bad things have happened in my life. I dont know if I am or not. This conversation often leads into another conversation about religion. When they ask me what my religion is something happens. I do not recall every details I give them but my monologue ends up with "and then Vincent comes and lays next to him, Jack looks up to the sky and sees the plane leaving and then closes his eye. Black screen. LOST" with a happiness tear drop coming out of my eye.

  25. There was so much more i wanted to say tonight, but it seems running out of propane put a damper on it, freezing all day waiting for a delivery, and not getting good results from my doctor last night.I least there is tomorrow and later on.

  33. I am going to miss Fringe so much! But I'm not worried about the series finale, like I often do. I really have a lot of faith in creators. After everything we've been through these 5 years, I'm sure THE FINALE is going to be AWESOME!
Once a Fringie, always a FRINGIE!
