I was totally fine with Lucy Liu being cast in this, in fact I was optimistic and now I like her a lot, but Vinnie Jones?! Serriously?! Playing a "complicated" character? I don't think I've ever seen him convey a simple emotion, never mind complexity. If M. is actually Moriarty (which seems obvious but could be a red herring) I am definitely not cool with it!
Vinnie Jones is actually a good actor, he's type cast because it suits his character in real life if you followed his football career. I don't think he is playing Moriarty, it would be naive to assume this since Moriarty is a professor and an older gentleman who is nearly always in the shadows and not so rough in his appearance as M in this episode appears to be. It seems Vinnie is playing Moran, a right hand man of Moriarty-a tough guy to rough people up. Don't be so alarmed.
This is great. I love the approach to the mysterious M. Rob Doherty said they were going to show the lietenants of Moriarty first, and they would want to save Moriarty's appearance for a more hyped up episode, say a finale or sweeps episode. I'm very excited!
Good knowledge, people, I haven't been reading up on the latest spoilers/chat lately. However I stick by my assertion that he's terrible (albeit enjoyably bad in B-movies/punch-ups) and not really appropriate to play a "complicated" Holmes antagonist
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I'm really excited for this episode! Looks VERY interesting!

ReplyDeleteThe speculative consensus is that Jones is playing M's henchman, not the man himself.
ReplyDeleteThat may be the most professionalism I've seen Sherlock display on the series so far.

ReplyDeletei heard that M in the episode is only someone acting as M, probably ordered by M. so this Vinnie Jones may just be a lieutenant of the Real Moriarty/
ReplyDeleteIn the end we'll discover that -M is -W as in "Watson". Pretending since the beggining. LOL
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for this ep, looks great !
