Showtime is splitting up its two most popular series.
Dexter and Homeland, which aired back to back in fall the past two years, will separate, so the network can use them as launching pads to introduce two new dramas.
Homeland, the Emmy-winning best drama, will remain in the fall, returning for a third season in September. But Dexter, the serial-killer series starring Michael C. Hall, will air its eighth and final season this summer. It will be followed by Ray Donovan, a new drama starring Liev Schreiber as a Los Angeles "fixer" to the rich and powerful. Jon Voight and Elliott Gould also star.
Homeland's new companion is Masters of Sex, a fictionalized biography of sex researchers William Masters and Virginia Johnson, that stars Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan.

So is it definitely the final season? I haven't seen this confirmed by Showtime
ReplyDeleteWe'll probably get official confirmation during todays TCA Panel with Showtime
ReplyDeleteI hope so dragging it out another season wouldn't be good IMO.
ReplyDeleteOne positive note: Dexter will start again in less than 6 months, instead of 9 =P
ReplyDeleteWatching Dexter and Breaking Bad at the same time?!
ReplyDeleteI've never assumed they would go past 8 Seasons to be honest. I've never seen anything posted that would suggest they would go against their original plan when they said after S6 that it would get 2 more seasons only
ReplyDeleteAlthough I HATE to wait for S8 of Dexter, I'd rather wait than see the show possibly ruined by a change of air date. There is a reason shows mostly start in September or October. People go on vacation?
ReplyDeleteIf there is still hope for another season, showing S8 in summer could ruin it. The rates
(popularity, viewers) will go down, the network won't renew it.
In the past there were several good shows, that were canceled after the networks changed
the day they showed it.
Two seasons of Dexter in one year? That's just awesome. Too bad two of my favourite shows will be ending at the same time though!
ReplyDeleteso no source you have havent either given a clue that it would go past season 8?
ReplyDeleteSo it's "this" summer as opposed to 2014 summer?! -It would be nice to have it early, but I'm surprised the people at Showtime feel this was a good move, considering Dexter's ratings might have climbed because it paired with Homeland!
ReplyDeleteYep, June 2013
ReplyDeleteWell, it will be great if they bring back the show in the summer.Probably means higher ratings too.
ReplyDeleteIt won't be in the same year.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's what I meant. :p Might have phrased it a bit strangely... English is not my first language.
ReplyDeleteNo worries :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! That's fortunate! :D
ReplyDeletei am actually very good about this. dexter is still of my favorite shows and having in the summer rather than the super crowded fall is much better for me
