Scene Of The Week - December 9, 2012

9 Dec 2012

As of today, I’m starting a new feature called “Scene of the Week” in which we’re trying to find most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great scenes that we’ve seen last week. I’m planning on posting it every week, with the a little help from our SpoilerTV amazing team, on Saturday or Sunday and I invite you all to join me. My picks this week are:

1.Show: FRINGE
Episode: 5.08 – The Human Kind
Date: December 7, 2012
Actors: Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson
The Scene: The last scene of the episode. Why did I choose it? Because it’s one of these amazing little scenes they have on Fringe quite often actually. The ones that bring out the emotions, show the love between characters and are perfect example of the remarkable work done by the actors. I just absolutely adore the fact that even though Peter was shutting down his feelings, he was still fighting it, in a way, that beautiful flashbacks (which are something I LOVE on every show!) about Olivia, Walter and Etta and Olivia’s speech brought him back. At least to the point where he literally cut the tech out of his head (BTW that was one powerful moment itself!). And then there’s the way his face suddenly changes (really nice job here by Joshua!) as he falls down and Olivia embraces him. And they’re back. Finally.
Quote:
“She saved my life today with the bullet she brought to us. She’s alive inside us. And there’s nothing that Windmark can do about it, because the love that we can share with her now is invulnerable to space and time, even to them. We need to hold on to our connection with Etta, feeling what we felt for her, or she dies all over again. And we cannot let her be erased.” Olivia

2.Show: ONCE UPON A TIME
Episode: 2.09 – Queen of Hearts
Date: December 2, 2012
Actors: Jennifer Morrison, Ginnifer Goodwin and Barbara Hershey
The Scene: The entire fight between Emma&Snow vs Cora&Hook was one of my favorites scenes of the episode, but it’s the part where Cora goes after Snow trying to rip her heart out and Emma saves her that amazed me. I remember watching this scene very well with million thoughts going through my head, the gasp and being absolutely terrified that one of our heroines is about to lose a heart. But Emma actually becoming THE savior was outstanding. It’s not just incredibly powerful, brilliantly acted and directed moment, but also pretty big step forward for our hero. And let’s not forget, thanks to the power of her pure magic, she and Snow finally made their way back home where we got another beautiful scenes of reunion.
Quote:
“Love is weakness” Cora
“No. Love is strength” Emma

I also asked other SpoilerTV Team member about her favorite scene this week and here’s her pick:

FROM LAURA M
Show: ONCE UPON A TIME
Episode: 2.09 – Queen of Hearts
Date: December 2, 2012
Actors: Lana Parilla (and Barbara Hershey)
The Scene: Regina left alone in Gold’s shop at the end of the episode and Cora talking about wanting to come back to her daughter after the curse is broken. As for why…
“Season 1 Regina wanted revenge, wanted to win, no matter what. Season 2 Regina starts to move on, she wants to redeem herself, she tries her best to do things right. But due to her past the rest of the characters still don't see her as the woman she's becoming, she's left behind at the end of the episode in a heartbreaking scene (Lana Parilla does a wonderful job) where Gold points out she's alone. After everything she does she's still alone. And Fairytale Land or Storybrooke Regina just wants to be loved. Which leads to an interesting cut to Cora's scene talking about coming back to be in the exact moment her daughter hits rock bottom. It will lead to an interesting fallout, and probably sad, too”
Laura M

And what’s your favorite scene of the week?

  1. I don´t know which scene was my favorite this week, but the only scene I´ll remember for years is Otto´s scene in Sons of Anarchy. That was grusome!! One of those you´ll never forget.
Can hardly call it my favorite though...... :-)

  2. If this was done last week, then many GA fans would say that the "Scene of the Week" would be when Mer tells Derek that she is pregnant.

Of the shows that I watch, I don't think that their was any scene in the episodes that was "Scene of the Week" worthy.

  3. Good scenes..
But my scene of the week goes to...
Ian Mcshane (Psycho Santa) x Jessica Lange (Sister Jude) in American Horror Story S02E08

  4. Richards despardo on Boardwalk Empire where he ends up killing almost every Rosetti-solider in sight. Jack Huston moves so great, and the scene is directed so well. Together with the ending with his part in the episode and the whole story Richard Harrow had in season 3 its above any of these, BY A LONG EFFIN MILE.

  5. I have to agree on the Fringe scene. The OUAT scenes were also very good, but the emotion the Polivia scene showed was simply amazing.

  6. I agree with Laura's submission. My scene of the week was definitely the one with Regina from OUAT. Lana Parrilla is fantastic.

  7. Top three in no particular order:

HOMELAND - Brody kills the Vice President. I thought the reveal that the VP had a pacemaker that Nazir could hack into was WAY too convenient, especially considering the entire first season was about Brody killing the guy, but the actual scene was really great. I thought Bryan Cranston should have won the Emmy, but this scene showed that Damian Lewis truly did deserve to win as well. It's always great to see Brody's evil side, and he showed it in this scene. ''You still don't get it, do you? I'm killing you.''

THE WALKING DEAD - Michonne vs. The Governor. Watching the two new characters fight like that was horribly entertaining. The acting was great, especially when Michonne was about to kill Philip's zombie daughter. But then that fight scene with the strangling, the zombie heads lying around and the piece of glass to the eye, followed by the confrontation between Michonne and Andrea... It was just so messed up, but it was great to watch and it was such an important moment for The Governor. Now that his daughter is (truly) dead, we'll probably see him become really evil. I'm looking forward to that.

FRINGE - Peter chooses emotion over science. I agree with the OP, this scene was so good. I loved the little Peter-becomes-an-Observer arc, but this was a great conclusion to that storyline. It's the whole ''emotion is strength, not weakness'' argument so beautifully explained. The acting, the music, the writing.. just wonderful. All this time Peter couldn't cope with the loss of Etta, and when he took the Observer tech out of his head and he fell into Olivia's arms, it was so emotional. ''She's still here with us.''

  8. OUAT definitely up there. For me it was Rachel At Winter Showcase on Glee. I always knew she was good but haters colored my thinking for a while. That performance definitively confirmed she is the best for a reason. You have to believe it to be it.

  9. That OUAT scene was great. The sword fight and then that Harry Potter moment.
Also Beckett talking about why she always works the Christmas Eve shift in this week's Castle. Kind of dreading this winter hiatus thing...I'm not sure what there is to watch this next week.

  10. Haven't yet watched this week's Fringe, but I did watch American Horror Story, with Lily Rabe's delicious performance as the demon-possessed nun hanging body prostheses on the Christmas tree. Hey, it's just not Christmas without dentures and hair locks decorating the tree.

  11. Love Laura's submission, especially for pointing out the parallel with Cora's speech. I must admit that Cora's reasoning was beyond twisted and disturbing, but it outlined well how far Regina has come. In fact the apple has fallen far from the tree, and I'd like to see the other characters acknowledge Regina's growth and sacrifice.

..About fringe completely..AGREE..thats was a cliffhanger choice and the final moment of the extraction of the thing in his neck..OUCH,.OUCH.,OUCH

  13. I have 2 Homeland- Brody kills the Vice President
and Scandal- it appears Huck has shot President Fitz!
Both politically driven and will offer amazing repercutions for the characters.

  14. Agreed Scandal was first, then OUAT, then even though no one watches this show, 666 Park Ave @ the end when Gavin meet up with his daughter Sasha, we finally found out that she was really alive and helping Henry.

  15. Damn u i havent watched last weeks episode of 666 Park Ave!! lol

  16. This week not much stuck out from my TV shows, they were all excellent though. The OUAT fight scene that was mentioned sticks out, so does the reunion of the Charming family.

  17. I don't have any nominations off the top of my head for this week but I think this will be a fabulous feature. Sadly I couldn't read your Fringe nomination because I'm annoyingly behind and I don't want spoilers. :-)

  18. I agree with Fringe, but I must say that the scene where Walter patches up Peter resonated even more with me. How Peter asked for Walter's understanding, even tempts him with the prospect of highly advanced brain power, and how it's Peter's inhumanity that helps Walter find the better part of himself was so touching and extremely well acted by both John and Josh.

  19. Great scenes here! ;)
And enjoy watching Fringe! It's absolutely incredible show! And the scene with Olivia on the brink of death there, yeah, it was very emotional. And suddenly I felt the need to rewatch the series! But I should probably wait till the end... As a way to say goodbye.

  20. Awesome job Justyna! I loved Emma's and Cora scene too, it changed the rules of the game and I'm sure the show will be great when it comes back

  21. Cora's way of loving and showing it is just very twisted, and about Regina, I hope the same, I really wish the writers give the ex- (?) evil queen some happiness.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Thank you! ;)
Yeah, I can't wait to see what's gonna happen next. Would love to learn more about Emma's powers!

  23. I wasn't wild about Emma blasting Cora back just because it sets up a lot of problems based on the canon they've established for the show.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Lea Michele may not be the most loving person ever, but there is no denying she can sing.

    ReplyDelete
  25. How so? From my standpoint magic is a total black box for the show and Emma's "true love" DNA seems to be equally omnipotent. So right now they can make Emma be able to do pretty much anything--except tell when people are lying--with impunity.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm not sure about "brilliant" on the OUaT fight, but it was certainly fun TV. It was good to see the protagonists fight for themselves. Awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Because they've set up True Love as a default position where we've literally seen three romantic couples that are so True Love break curses. And several other that are called that as well.

So if True Love is the default then how can people like Cora, Rumplestiltskin and Regina, who have canonically pulled out dozens and dozens of hearts have never encountered someone who is the child of a True Love couple before? Especially since they've also introduced Aurora's mother as a victim of the sleeping curse but with the assumption that it was broken by True Love's Kiss as well. So they'll have to further retcon Aurora as someone who is NOT the product of True Love and with a different father than the one who woke her mother up.
