ABC 4.9/ 8
NBC 4.1/ 7

----------
-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Tuesday 12/07/11
CW: +33, Fox: - 4, NBC: - 7, CBS: -15, ABC: -18
----------
-Winners:
Survivor: Philippines (CBS), The X Factor (Fox), Arrow (CW), Criminal Minds (CBS), Modern Family R (ABC), Chicago Fire (NBC)
-Losers:
Whitney (NBC), Guys With Kids (NBC), The Grammy Nominations Concert Live! – A Countdown to Music’s Biggest Night (CBS)
-----------
-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS and Fox dominated the overnights on this first Wednesday in December, but The X Factor should be enough to lead Fox to overall victory among adults 18-49. The Eye net was below average minus regularly scheduled CSI at 10 p.m.
Always-reliable Survivor: Philippines opened the night for CBS with a dominant 7.0 rating/11 share at 8 p.m., which was six percent above the year-ago telecast set in the South Pacific. She may not be the best at challenges, but Lisa Whelchel, in my humble opinion, is playing one of the most honorable games in the history of Survivor. And this wise decision to participate in Survivor should rejuvenate the former sitcom star’s career.
Next on the Eye net was veteran Criminal Minds, which won the 9 p.m. hour at a stable 7.3/12 in the overnights, followed by 10 p.m. special The Grammy Nominations Concert Live! – A Countdown to Music’s Biggest Night at a third-place 3.6/ 7. Comparably, the Grammy Nominations special was down by a hefty 53 percent from regularly scheduled CSI one week earlier (7.7/13 on Nov. 28). And retention out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of Criminal Minds (7.3/12) was only 49 percent.
Aforementioned The X Factor on Fox scored a 6.0/ 9 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m., peaking at a 6.1/10 from 8:30-9:30 p.m. Comparably, this was just three percent below the 6.2/10 on the year-ago evening.
Over at ABC, The Middle kicked-off the night with a third-place 5.5/ 9 at 8 p.m., followed by kooky The Neighbors (#3: 4.3/ 7), an encore telecast of Modern Family (#3: 5.9/ 9), sophomore Suburgatory (#3t, 4.7/ 7) and recent drama entry Nashville, which finished second at 10 p.m. with a 4.5/ 8. As a reminder, Suburgatory moves back to Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. effective on April 3, with new sitcom How to Live with Your Parents (for the Rest of Your Life), with Sarah Chalke, Elizabeth Perkins and Brad Garrett, inheriting the 9:30 p.m. time period. Family Tools, a new comedy with Leah Remini that mixes family and business, will step into the Wednesday 8:30 p.m. half-hour (in place of Suburgatory) on May 1.
Elsewhere, Chicago Fire was the standout on NBC. Without CSI in the competitive mix, the freshman Dick Wolf drama won the 10 p.m. hour with a series-high 5.2/ 9. Comparably, that built from the 9:30 p.m. portion of veteran lead-in Law & Order: SVU (#4: 4.7/ 7) by 11 percent and it built by a hefty 41 percent from its most recent overnight performance (3.7 on Nov. 21) by 41 percent.
Earlier in the evening on NBC were low-rated sitcoms Whitney (#4: 2.8/ 5), which is not an improvement from canceled Animal Practice, and Guys With Kids (#4: 2.6/ 4) from 8-9 p.m., followed by aforementioned Law & Order: SVU at a fourth-place 4.5/ 7 from 9-10 p.m.
Over at The CW, bona fide hit Arrow scored a 2.5/ 4 at 8 p.m., which was almost triple the 0.9/ 1 for an encore telecast of America’s Got Talent on the year-ago evening. Next was Supernatural at a typical 1.5/ 2 at 9 p.m., which dipped by a 40 percent from Arrow.

I hate to be that guy who points out Marc Berman's mistakes... oh, nope, I don't. America's Got Talent? Clearly he means Next Top Model. And there are only so many times he can use phrases like "bona fide hit" and "earned it's cancellation stripes".
ReplyDeleteOn the actual ratings side, glad to see Arrow is still going strong after 8 episodes. Each week I'm getting less worried about it just being beginners luck. Also good to see Supernatural is staying the same every week.
CBS without CSI is not doing good ratings on this timeslot, now we can be sure CSI Vegas will be renew for a new season !
ReplyDeleteI love Arrow but sometimes, I feel like it needs more action. The hero scenes are short and the fights are brief too. And yet, it's the highest rated show of the netlet, behind TVD obviously.
ReplyDeleteI think its their best rated 10pm show, its deffiantley safe
ReplyDeleteit is looking good for chicago fire, hopefully it translates into ratings
ReplyDeleteYeah I guess it has been a bit light on action but last nights episode seemed to have a bit more in it. Hopefully it will be leading up to something better.
ReplyDeleteVery glad to see Chicago Fire in the Winners section!
ReplyDeleteNielsen ratings are delayed according to Tvbythenumbers :(
ReplyDeleteServes CBS right for preempting CSI.
ReplyDeleteI agree that some more fight scenes would be nicer. But I keep comparing it to Smallville where fights on that show lasted all of like 5 seconds and only were dragged out if someone had kryptonite.
ReplyDeleteDarkUFO,i was just on twitter and it was released that the ratings will not be published today.Nielsen did not say why.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE seeing Chicago Fire in the Winners section!
ReplyDeleteIt's really delayed. Wonder why today?
ReplyDeleteNielsen "machine" has broken, they should go back and revise Castle's ratings, they are completely wrong :D
ReplyDeletechicago fire! yesss! suburgatory is way weaker than last year, i did not antecipate the move to hurt it this much, that's a season low righ there (given, an expectable one)
ReplyDeleteisnt it moving again?
ReplyDeleteNashville is finally steady, so I'm happy about that!
ReplyDeleteAnd yay SPN!
Not surprised the show Arrow turned into a soap opera with helena/ollie and tommy/laurel.
